Logic Express 8.02 Instruments Won't Recall.

I've tried saving the individual patches on the instrument tracks in the ES2 and EX24 and even saved the channel strip as performance, disabled and midi program changes. Still every time I open up the projects, the sounds are defaulting to a different sound.
These projects are set up for playing live and I only have one audio track that I've been using as a referrence, no midi tracks have been recorded.

Wow, Clive!  Just . . . wow.
I feel your pain.  It is amazing how LE 8 can work but a version of LE 9 won't.  At any rate, if LE 9.1.7 is supposed to work you can download the update here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1015
Hopefully this will get you up & running.
(For a number of reasons I do not plan on upgrading to Mountain Lion.  I'm running OSX 10.7.x and I think that's as far as I'm going.  I really don't like the direction Apple are taking by making their OS more like their IOS used in their mobile devices.)

  • Logic Express 9.1.5 won't boot

I just bought a refurbished 27" iMag 3.4ghs i7 from Apple and picked up Logic Express. I installed it and then did the update for 9.1.5. It opened fine. I played around a bit and closed it. I opened it again and it worked. Closed it, came back a bit later and now it won't open. It gets hung up while booting at "checking midi drivers". I go to "force quit" and it is not responding. I have to force it to quit. Nothing changed after it booted up the first couple times.
The only thing I can think of is I installed a core audio driver for a digi 002 but that was done the before it booted up a couple times.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

  • Logic Express no MIDI instrument output

I use Express with an M-Audio Fast Track Ultra. Always had no problems, but now when I load a software instrument, I get MIDI input trigger messages but no monitoring output. In other words, if I record then playback, I hear what i recorded, but I cannot hear it as I play it. How can I restore the monitoring volume to my Express software instruments?

I had the same problem. I'm not in front of my studio computer right now, so I'm not sure if this is correct, but you need to hold down or right click your mouse over the icon in the track name window and select the instrument and channel that you want to play thru. Typing in the channel and changing the port in the channel strip is not enough. At least, I think that's what I had to do. Also, make sure you're set-up correctly in the Environment.
    Good luck.

  • Logic Express 7 - EXS24 Instrument Editor

Just bought LE7. Can't find the EXS24 instrument editor (which is in LE6). Any ideas please? thanks.

    hi. thanks for the tip.
another problem: I've tried playing an EXS instrument I've created in LE6 in a song in LE7 and although I hear the instrument in the record mode, I can't hear it in the playback mode. there's a signal in the arrange window next to the audio instrument but no signal in the volume area in the mixer. this isn't happening with pre-existing EXS instruments.
    any idea please?
oops. solved this. just needed to switch out of logic 7 and re-boot. doh!

  • How to do multi-instrument with EXS instrument in Logic Express

    Hello Logic Express Users,
I wonder if someone can help me. I can set up multi-instruments with Battery 2, and Kontakt 2, but I am battling to set up a multi-instrument when I am using the EXS with Logic Express. How do I assign the outputs to different outputs so that I can hear different instruments through different aux channels.
Or is it only possible with the EXS editor that comes with Logic Pro? Because if it is then it is weird why they make the EXS with Logic express a multi-instrument.
Thanks in advance for any help.

If you want to save an instrument patch together with plugins and so on, you should save it as a channel strip.
Use the channel strip menu at the top of the channel object. There is a defined directory for user channel strips, but you can create folders within it and organise your channel strip settings as you like.
These settings will show up in the channel strip menu, and the media browser too.

  • Channel  strip inserts Logic Express 7.2.3

When I click on the inserts of an Audio Inst track channel strip I may choose Instruments from Logic Express, GarageBand, and Jam Packs 2,3 and 4. When I try this on an Audio Track the insert offers only the Logic Express and GarageBand Instruments but no Jam Packs. After reading ALL the pdf manuals and the M Sitter book, and spending 3 hours every day the last 6 months reading this forum I still don't know the current corrrect file paths for the garageBand and Logic Express 7.2.3 or the Jam Packs 2,3 and4. At the local Apple Store I was shown a version of Logic Express which had ALL these Jam Packs in BOTH types of Audio/Audio Inst tracks.
Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   M-Audio 49e USBMIDI Controller

Jam Packs contains loops and instruments, not channel strips. To view your loops go to Audio>Loop Browser. Then you will be able to view all of you JamPacks loops. Also, JamPacks contains new software instruments. To use the software instruments that come with jampacks, go to a software instrument track, then use the EXSP4 sample player as the I/O for the track. Navigate down to GarageBand and the instruments from jampacks should be there. It's not something that really stands out. It's just that it increases the number of instruments by a lot. And with the loops, you can sort out just the jampacks loops to see what it offers.

  • Open Logic Express 7.2 songs in Pro 8.2..?

I have just upgraded and thought that this would be possible, but the Express Projects are greyed out in the Import menu.
    Anyone else tried this..?

I occasionally have an issue importing Logic Express 7.2 files into LP8.02, though usually they import just fine. I think it has something to do with Logic Express's bundled instruments as they throw up occasional errors when importing.
I've never had it greyed out though, so can't help there, other than suggesting removing the prefrence files

  • When I open logic express 8 with eyetv open but not active and i close logic express 8 and make eyetv active it won't show closed captioning even though closed captioning is turned on

when I open logic express 8 with eyetv open but not active and i close logic express 8 and make eyetv active eyetv won't show closed captioning even though closed captioning is turned on.  When I totally close eyetv and reopen eyetv and open a live tv window the closed captioning comes back.  I never noticed this with os leopard, Just after i installed os snow leopard.  All software is up to date only I think, thanks to apple they droped support for logic express.  Thanks for any suggestions.

Does toggling CC off & back on bring it back?
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.

  • Logic Express 8 won't load saxophones

For the first time ever, I'm getting the dreaded error: "Logical end-of-file reached during read operation. Result code = -39". This error occurs whenever I (a) load a Logic project that has a software instrument track in it that is assigned to either the Tenor Sax.exs or Alto Sax.exs instruments OR (b) create a new software instrument track and then load either of those same saxophone sounds. The same saxophone instruments work fine when I play them in GarageBand, however. I've tried reinstalling Logic Express. I've also tried using known-good exs instruments from another computer. To no avail. What else can I try?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
checked in the Logic Pro forum - maybe you should turn off time machine while running logic.
Another solution: If you can identify the exact file causing the problem, maybe deleting and reinstalling it from the Garageband or Logic Install Disk can cure the thing.
    The samples are in library/application support/garageband/Instrument Library/Sampler/Sampler Files/Tenor Sax.
The EXS file is found in Sampler/Sampler Instrument.
Also, repair permissions. May not have to do anything with this but is always wise to do.

  • Export instrument track from logic express 9

Hi everyone, I would purchase logic express 9 but I need to know if is possible to export the midi(not sounds) of an instrument track...and make the upload of these midi on pro tools for example...because with garage band I can't export the midi!!!

yes you can export a MIDI region to a MIDI File in Logic.

  • How can I add new software instruments to Logic Express?

I just got Logic Express 8 and was disappointed to see that there were not as many instruments available as I thought there were. Is there a way I can add additional software instruments to my library without having to spend 300 more dollars to get Logic Studio?

    Hi,
the cheapest way would be to buy a specific sample library from a music store and import them into the EXS24 Sampler. There are also some free downloadable ones, but i think they are not very satifactory.
Maybe a Jam Pack would help, also. Don't have one myself, so this is a shot in the dark.
However, i would encourage you to think about logic pro. You don't only get the sound library, but some very useful tools and plugins that Express doesn't contain. If i had the money, i would instantly go for it.

  • Unable to play External Midi Instruments in Logic Express

    Hi,
I have a Yamaha Keyboard which is connected to my Mac via a usb midi cable (Edirol). I have installed the driver for the midi cable and have set it up properly in the "Audio Midi Setup".
However when I am using Logic Express, I just do not know where I can select the midi cable(Edirol) for my Midi In / Out put and as such, I am unable to play any sounds from my keyboard in Logic Express.
Is someone can advise me on this, would be most grateful.
    Thanks in advance and cheers.

    Hi
Thanks so much for your reply. I have done so for the setup, however when I am in Logic Express I am still unable to play sounds from my keyboard. The mac seems to be using sounds from the computer instead and I do not know where in Logic Express can i go to set it such that my keyboard sounds are used in stead, as i wish to assign channels to my various midi instruments so that they play the right sound from my keyboard.
    Please help!! Thanks

  • Logic Express 8 won't open

Just bought a new copy of Logic Express 8. Have installed twice, but the app will not open. Crashes after only a couple of seconds of the bouncing icon.
I tried firing up my Yamaha GO46 interface, thinking maybe it wanted to see an input. Got all my audio/MIDI configured, ready to go. Nothing helped.
I have Cubase LE installed and it runs fine. I wanted to improve my DAW, but an app that won't open is no improvement.

Any ideas what the deal is?

It sounds like an issue with the core audio.
When you start logic, hold down the ctrl button and choose no when the option to load the core audio appears. Logic should open.
You need to configure the audio settings in the audio/midi setup utility found in the application\utility folder.
By default, I think the input is set to the inbuilt microphone - you need to change it to your audio hardware which you use (make sure it's connected and turned on). You also need to make sure your audio hardware is turned on and connected to your computer before you open logic in future.
    Hope it helps.

  • Can I use Mainstage software instruments in Logic Express 9?

I would like to add more software (MIDI) instruments to Logic Express 9. I understand Mainstage comes with what used to be called Jam Packs. Can I use those Mainstage software instruments in Logic Express 9? If not, where do i find additional software instruments?

    All JamPacks: yes, no problem.
Actual instruments, effects, like Space Designer: no, they are part of the application code (MainStage or Logic Pro)

  • Use exterior vst instruments in Logic Express 9

From my former PC I installed Cubase Essential5 onto my new iMac and I purchased Logic Express 9 as well. I am trying to find out wether I can use the HALionOne and Synth Prologue vst instruments in Logic Express and how I go about it. I did install a demo version of Musiclab's Realguitar and after checking the Audio Units Manager, installment I was able to open this under Exterior instruments. Does anybody have suggestions?
    evert

    Hi
Logic only supports Audio Unit plugins, not VST (or any other type). Install the correct type and you should be good to go.
