Logic express 8, question for caramby from newbie

dear caramby,
it seems to me that you're the champ who holds the keys to logic heaven. i'm new in these forums and i'm also starting out with logic as my daw for making music. i'm a songwriter and would be happy if i get to start working on my projects soon. i have trouble with my audio inputs meaning, i get a very very low signal for when i plug in my guitar and mic to my m audio usb fast track guitar/mic audio interface (the old one) connected to logic. i tried going to applications>utilities>audio midi settings and my settings are right.
is the problem with my audio interface or logic? wait, i'll list down my gear so as to give you an idea what my system looks like:
Macbook Pro (2 weeks old) snow leopard OS
alto m3 speakers
korsun stereo inte
m audio fast track guitar/mic recording interface
i'm sorry i had to make sure i made myself clear. just so i would know exactly how to troubleshoot my concerns. i have no problem recording software instruments and midi keyboard is working. my problem is the very very low levels of guitar and mic input in logic 8. can you kindly help me please? i barely know tech terms so kindly be patient with me. thank you so much

i fooled around with the track automation. is this the right way to do it? or will i experience problems when i begin to mix later on?

  • Interview Questions for MTO from SD point of view

    Dear SAP Experts,
I would like to know in detail the Interview Questions for MTO from SD point of view.
    Thanks
    Bhushan

    Hi,
Since MTO is more a conceptually driven scenario first you need to understand what exactly happens in a business.
    1) Be clear on the strategy groups.
    2) Be clear on the cost center assignments since sales order is cost object in case of MTO
    3) So you need FI interface idea to execute MTO process.
    4) Understand how the SD is informed after the production is completed for an MTO order.
    5) Understand the movement types involved, since sometimes it may be required that this special stock may be needed to sent to unrestricted or perhaps assign it to some other sales order.
    6) Know clearly about requirement type since thats the key which identifies an MTO order.
Make sure you als read the library. Hope it helps.

  • Logic Express 7 (Purchased for PowerPC) compatibility on Intel

I used to have a PowerBook G4 and I had Logic Express 7 for it but, now that I'm on a MacBook I wanted to know if my PowerPC version of Logic is able to work on the intel.

Yes it will work - but there may be issues on intels with versions below Logic 7.2 - you can do a search for them on this forum. If your version is less than 7.2 the upgrade can be difficult to get hold of as apple seem to have discontinued it. There is a user on this forum who has very kindly offered to mail people the upgrade - again do a search on this forum.
-Hopefully your version IS 7.2 - in which case you should have no problems.

  • Is Logic express pro enough for me?

    Guys
I would just like to know if getting Express will deny me of the professional world? Will I miss out on essential things (only for the mean time), until I get Pro in about a years time, is it that express (unpro)?
I just haven't got the money for pro in the meantime but will upgrade in time to come.
What are the major differences that would effect professionalism?

Depends on how "Pro" you think you need to be, but I'd say VERY PROBABLY YES.
The power available to you under Express is very, very considerable. Sure, there are things that Pro has that Express users might want to have, but I've always been a believer in the creative power of limitations. Jam & Lewis became hot producers -- arguably -- BECAUSE they had to come up with creative ways around the limitations of their instruments.
My recommendation -- and I can't speak as a gazillion-selling artist here -- is to spend a year or two with Express. Learn it. Live it. Work the heck out of it. When you've exhausted its capabilities and you can't work around its limitations any more, THEN it'll be time for a well-deserved upgrade.
Major differences: check out the comparison chart on the Apple website. For my purposes, I miss out on some of the more esoteric editing stuff, and I would absolutely LOVE to be able to create 'on-the-fly' clusters of my Macs, offloading virtual instruments and effects to other machines. Some of the virtual instruments are missing, too -- but that gets us back to the issue of creative sweat and adapting to circumstances.
I don't want to flog a dead issue here, but consider that my Logic Express, running on an aging eMac, coupled with a few hundred dollars' worth of outboard hardware, gives me a studio with more capabilities (in some respects) than the afore-mentioned Jam & Lewis. Or Todd Rundren. Or -- heaven forbid -- George Martin. Or W. Carlos. Or... you get the idea.
Just my semi-philosophical perspective. Your mileage may vary.
    Cheers,
    Michael

  • Logic Express Beginner begging for help

I recently made the step up into the Mac world and love everything about my new mac book pro except I am struggling with Logic Express. I have used Adobe Audition for many years and know it inside and out however...I cant even figure out to record my voice with a microphone.
I work in radio and only need the program to record my voice and to edit interviews (mp3 or wav files) for use on the radio. I tried hooking up my mobile pre usb pre amp up and downloaded drivers but couldn't get it to record. I can record using the built in my mic but the quality is insufficient for the airwaves.
I know this must be something very simple but I am struggling , thank you so much in advance for any help you can give.

    Hi,
I'd start with opening a Finder window, and go to Applications > Utilities > Audio/Midi Configuration. If you open this program, you can set your default audio inputs and outputs, and set the input level, for example. If your interface doesn't show up here, you can be pretty sure that Logic won't see it, either.
Then go to Logic, and look in Preferences > Audio >Devices. You should choose your USB preamp as your Device. As you can see, you can only choose 1 device here. BUT, in the Audio/Midi Configuration utility, you can "build" a virtual device consisting of more than one device (see the Audio menu of the utility). Just in case you'd like to use more than 1 interface in the future...
Anyway, check page 99 of Help > Logic Express 8 User Manual.
    Kind regards,
    Jaap

  • Airport Question for a Mac Newbie

I just got a Macbook Pro and I also bought the Airport Extreme. When I click on the Airport Icon I can see about 15 or so different networks at any given time. I have a 2 part question. First how do I know which network/router is mine? How can I rename the network that is listed? I am very new to Mac's and wireless networking. I just want to make sure that I have protected my network properly. I set up a password for WAP is that all I need to do? One last thing, is there anyway I can make sure that I am protected properly? Thanks Much!!!
    MacBook Pro 2GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

A question eh? My counting must be off I see at least 4 question marks...
You know which router is yours because you set it up and named it. If you still can't figure it out you should pick a better name. When you click on your network and type in your password you should be able to connect.
To rename a network you will need to connect to it and run the AirPort Admin Utility which is location in the "Utilities" folder in your "Applications" folder.
If by WAP you mean WPA then you are off to a great start. When you picked the password I hope you didn't make it too easy to guess. Try putting numbers, letters and symbols in it and you should make it at least 16 charaters long to be sure that you are safe (I use 24 characters).
I would suggest looking at this tutorial from Apple - it might help answer some questions and should give you a better understanding:

  • PDA question for OS X newbie

I will be starting medical school this summer. As such my school requires ownership of a PDA. One of the required specifications is that it run on Windows Mobile 5.0. Will this be compatible with the new MacBook/MacBook Pro that I will be purchasing soon? Any ideas on making the two work together would be helpful. Thank you in advance for your suggestions.
P.S. On a related note, what are people's favorite PDA/PocketPC running Windows Mobile 5.0?
MacBook Pro (hopefully soon)   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   Currently using an old G3 iMac

Thanks for your help. I also saw PocketMac. Looks quite similar to The Missing Sync. In the FAQ for PocketMac, they mention issues in compatibility with Intel Core Duo macs. Can't find the same info (one way or the other) on Markspace.com. Any insight? Has anybody had any experience with either of these two pieces of software (I will not be booting Windows on my new Mac - the OS is the whole reason to get a Mac)?

  • Sountrack or Logic/Logic Express for Voice Over work?

    Hello,
I am wondering which software is best for voice over work? Sountrack or Logic/Logic Express?
Any input would be great. I would add the standard effects/filters to certain voice overs and add sound effects and music.
I have a midi/guitar and garage band is enough for me. I would not want to use Garageband as my software of choice for voice over work. I want markers and other more advanced tools?
    Thanks,
    Erik

    Hi Erik,
I haven't used Logic or Logic Express, but I recently switched from Pro Tools to Soundtrack Pro 2. (I'm an independent producer/host for 2 weekly shows on Connecticut Public Radio.)
All I can say is this-- Soundtrack Pro has shaved hours off my Pro Tools workflow, is much more intuitive, and is (obviously) Mac-friendly, so I've been singing its praises ever since I made the switch.
In fact, I think Apple should be marketing it directly to radio stations!
    Hope this helps,

  • Plug-Ins for Logic Express 9

Does anyone know of any sites where one can download plug-ins for Logic Express 9 (either for free or for purchase)? Also, I know that one can use sound fonts (.au) with GarageBand --do these also work in Logic Express 9 and, if so, do they need to be reinstalled for Logic or do both programs read the same source files?
    Thank you!

To piggy back on previous posts, I would definitely pursue Native Instruments. While some may of the plug-ins may seem a bit on the pricey side, you will certainly get your money's worth. If you're looking for strong lead and bass sounds, I would encourage you to check out Massiv - it's my go-to plug-in of choice. I believe there is even a limited demo to try if you want to play around before purchasing.
    Hope this helps.

  • Can I purchase a Logic express 9 for PC?

Can anyone tell me if I can purchase Logic Express 9 software for PC's please? Thanks

Logic Express is a Mac only app. There may be a similar app for PCs, but it will have a different name.

  • When I open logic express 8 with eyetv open but not active and i close logic express 8 and make eyetv active it won't show closed captioning even though closed captioning is turned on

when I open logic express 8 with eyetv open but not active and i close logic express 8 and make eyetv active eyetv won't show closed captioning even though closed captioning is turned on.  When I totally close eyetv and reopen eyetv and open a live tv window the closed captioning comes back.  I never noticed this with os leopard, Just after i installed os snow leopard.  All software is up to date only I think, thanks to apple they droped support for logic express.  Thanks for any suggestions.

Does toggling CC off & back on bring it back?
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.

  • Logic Express 9 won't work with Lion

I just bought a new Macbook Pro! I love it. I used Migration Assistant to move things from my last mac onto the new one. A part of that move was Logic Express 9. Eveything else from the move works fine--GarageBand files and all. But Logic will not open. It keeps saying that the program is not compatiable with this version of OS X. I removed Logic from my computer and reinstalled it from the original DVD. Said the same thing. I've been reading a lot about this issue on various communities and talked with Apple support. They said I needed to upgrade Logic from 9.0.0. Well, fine. I download the 145 MB upgrade twice and it says that the upgrade cannot be installed--that it might have been corroded during download. Says that both times.
I am lost--I need this program to work. I produce music for myself and others. I can't do without it. I don't fuss with things on my Mac. I have never moved or renamed any files. Everything is where it was when it was installed.
I am lost and don't know what to do...

    I appreciate the response!
I was reading some more and kept having the same problem. I ended up re-installing it a third time, then downloading the update, and finally got it working.
Something just was weird with this.
    But got it going!
    Thanks!

  • Sync microKorg with Logic Express 9

I'm trying to sync the arpeggiator of my microKorg XL with Logic Express 9, using Logic as the master. I seem to have almost done it, in that tempo changes in Logic change the microKorg's tempo. However, I can only hear the microKorg whilst I'm either recording or playing back - I can't hear it if I press a few keys.
I think the problem lies in that I have "Local off" set in accordance with the microKorg manual. The manual says I should also "turn on echo back" on the computer - but I don't know how to do this in Logic Express.
    Grateful for advice.

When you set "Local Off" in any synth with MIDI capability, it disconnects synth's keyboard from its sound engine. Switch it back ON to be able to play sounds again using microKorg's keyboard. There is no point to disable the keyboard in your case anyways. Unless of course, you want to avoid midi-loop (but that's only when you have both MIDI IN and MIDI OUT wired to Logic).

  • LOGIC EXPRESS 9 HELP!

what features does logic express 9 have for vocal editing like reverb delay?

    Hi,
This is the kind of broad question which would be best researched by googling.
I just did a Google search for "logic express 9 vocal editing":
I quickly found this link to the 195 page Logic Express 9 Effects PDF file.( It was the 6th entry on Google's list.):
    http://documentation.apple.com/en/logicexpress/effects/Logic%20Express%209%20Eff ects%20(en).pdf
You can download that file and search it for the word "vocal". I tried it and got 51 matches.
Additionally, a Google search has the potential to find many other useful resources for more nuanced information including related youtube videos, recommendations, evaluation, tips, etc.
When you do a Google search, it automatically looks at related information in all of the Logic Apple Support Communities, such as this one, along with anything else it can find.
    I hope this helps,
    John
