Logic Express 9 and moving factory content...?

Hello everyone, I know this has probably been asked before but I can't seem to find any posts on it.
Is it possible to move the sample audio files installed with Logic Express 9 to an external hard drive? I'm basically running out of space on my main drive, quickly. I can't locate the files anywhere on the hard drive and I'm going bonkers trying to find them. I thought you could move them onto another drive and then re-index them inside Logic.
Any response is greatly appreciated,
-Jason

Basically, they are in the Garageband loop folder - that's the tricky thing about them
Go to *(system HD)/Library/Audio/Apple Loops/Apple/Apple Loops for GarageBand*
that's where these little nuisances are.
Make a backup (time machine) in case something doesn't work out as it should, then:
Move them to an external HD, then re-index the loop browser to clear it of the missing loops,
grab the folder where they are on the external HD and drag&drop it onto the Loop browser in Logic to re-index them. Done. If you are missing loops afterwards, you didn't drag&drop all of them onto the loop browser. Check twice.

Does toggling CC off & back on bring it back?
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.

Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.

How do i sort this out!? It is very frustrating as the main reason i have bought  a mac is to use logic! Any help would be great as i am a complete novice when it comes to Macs!

You're probably on OS X Lion?
I had the same problem as you. I used Software Update to update Logic Express to the latest version, and then it ran without any problems.

  • Please help with Logic Express 7 and using DFH plugin!

Hey guys, I'm really in a tight spot here as I have no idea how to get my setup working properly. I recently bought an entirely new Imac, Logic Express 7, and a drum plugin called Drumkit From **** Superior (VSTi I believe is the type of plugin they call it). It is supposed to be compatable but I see no way to get it to show up as a plugin. I tried some other programs and it shows up as a plugin and I'm able to get into the interface, but I can't in LE7.
It is supposed to be compatable as a "rewire" plugin or something like that, but I'm not too sure how to approach that differently, both manuals are very vague.
    Basically, I'm wondering:
    1. How would I go about getting Drumkit From **** Superior to show up as a "plugin" (and what it would be under) if I have to use it a "rewire"?
    2. If I could get it running as a plugin, how would I go about programming a drum part using that "drumkit" in Logic Express?
Thanks, any help is greatly appreciated.
    -Daniel

It's a tough one man, I'm actually wanting to go for EZdrummer which I think comes under the same umbrealla as DFH, the patch will come to let you upgrade to intel hopefully by September so hold onto that plug in as I think it'll be worth it in the long run. In the mean time do you have any other options to make beats?
I use Reason 3.0, I sequence my beats using Reason Drum Kits 2.0 and export them as WAV or AIFF files into Logic, do you have anything similar that you can do? write you beats else where and import into Logic?

  • How to work with Logic Express 8 and Garageband 11 v.6.0.4?

I just installed Logic Express 8 and I don't know what it's done to my existing Garageband files - they seem to have been overwritten into Logic folders. I don't seem to be able to open them in either program. I'm sure there are answers buried in the files here, but I'd appreciate a quick How To, please! Can't work.

You need more to be sure the Digidesign core audio drivers are installed for your MBox, which are separate from the firmware upgrade.
A standalone installer for the OS X (10.4) drivers can be found at:
    http://www.digidesign.com/index.cfm?langid=100&navid=54&itemid=24268
While I'm glad to hear you're using Logic, your iMac should have no problem running ProTools LE. The current version, 7.3, has universal binary support for the new intel Macs .... dependign on the version you have, though, you may need to pay a small amount to upgrade to 7.3 The updaters for 7.3 also include the core audio driver package I mentioned above, and the ProTools LE 7.3 updaters can be found at:

  • No Logic Express 6 and earlier forum?

There is a Logic Express 7 forum:
    http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=772
however, I can't find a forum for Logic Express 6 and earlier on the board. Could one be added for those who still use an older version please?

    Hi, romad -
Besides, using that logic, a majority of the boards would have to be removed, such as Mac OS 9 (10.3?) and earlier, G3 and earlier Mac hardware, etc. since Apple no longer supports them.
But Apple does support them. Apple maintains not only the availability of downloads and KBase articles applicable to those products, but also the discussions forums for them. All those provide support for the items.
I think what you mean is that Apple no longer develops those products, which is true - but that is not the same as not supporting them.
In the case of Logic, Apple provides support for those products released since Apple acquired Logic, but not for those products released before Apple acquired it.

  • Logic Express 8 and OSX 10.6.5 Problems...

    Hi,
I just did a fresh install of all of my software on my iMac.
Previously had it running 10.6.4 and everything an fine.
Now that I've reinstalled and upgraded to 10.6.5 Logic Express won't work.
Anyone else having this problem? Am I just ging to have to upgrade to 9?
I don't really want to as I mainly use Pro Tools and just use logic for drum machines and synths...
    Anyway! Any help is appreciated!

I'm running 10.6.5 and LE 8 and it works for me. Of course I have a new imac that came installed with 10.6.5 and I installed LE on it. Maybe you can re-install LE. But hopefully there is another solution. I too don't really want to upgrade to LE 9 if I don't have to.

  • Logic express 9 and ionix u82s

    Hi there,
I have bought a mac book pro and now my ionix u82s is not longer seen by Logic express 9. I have downloaded both the drivers for Yosemite but nothing, I can't do my music.
    Somebody can help?

    Hi
Which version of Logic 9 are you using? For Garageband 6 compatibility I believe that you need Logic 9.1.3 (??) or higher.

  • Logic Express 9 and and  Boss RC-30 looping pedal--incompatible?

I recently purchased both Logic Express and a Roland Boss guitar looping pedal, hoping to use Logic Express to create/edit loops for the pedal. But when I tryto import them to the pedal (via USB), I get an error message of "unplayable file". The manual for the looping pedal states that the wav files must be in the format wav, 16-bit linear, stereo, with a sampling frequency of 44.1 kHz. I am able to match all of those in the "Bounce" export dialog, except I don't see an option for linear--only "interleaved" or "split". And I'm not sure how to tell if I'm exporting a mono or a stereo track, but I think that since my signal goes on both sides of the line in the arranger window, that it is stereo. Has anyone been able to get this to work? I'm thinking the issue is that I need a linear rather than an interleaved file.

Have been really busy, but finally tried your suggestion. Logic Express seems to be able to export WAV files only as interleaved or split into two tracks. My Roland/Boss looping pedal says "unreadable file" for both flavors. After much experimenting, I did finally find something that will work. I have to first export my file as a 16 bit (interleaved) stereo WAV file from Logic Express. Then I have to open the file in Audacity, and re-export it as what Audacity calls a 16 bit Microsoft WAV file. Then my pedal reads the file just fine. I'm disappointed that Logic Express won't export a file that is readable by the pedal, but at least I found a work-around.

  • Logic Express 8 and my new Focusrite Saffire PRO 24 audio interface

I recently purchased a new Firewire audio interface, the Saffire PRO 24 from Focusrite, and I'm having some trouble getting it to play nicely with Logic Express 8. Anyone else having difficulty with this?
There are a number of problems including: 1) I can't seem to use any sample rate besides 44.1 kHz. When I start-up Logic Express, the Saffire instantly reverts to 44.1kHz, no matter what the previous setting was. 2) Focusrite's control panel, "Mix Control," has buffer settings for recording/playback but so does LE 8; which one has priority over the other? 3) *My BIGGEST problem* is that, when recording, the Saffire seems to show a very different input level than LE 8 does, and this makes it very difficult to know how to set the gain to prevent clipping.
More details: I'm using the latest version of Focusrite's Mix Control software (2.2). There are no additional software updates for Logic Express 8. My Apple firewire driver is current. I'm using a brand new Firewire cable, 6-pin to 9-pin since my Macbook Pro has a 9-pin FW800 port.
I like this piece of hardware, and I know Focusrite makes some great equipment. Please let me know if I'm overlooking something here! Cheers.

I can't speak on the FOCUSRITE but I hope you will get what I'm saying in general about the recording process.
With Audio Interfaces (I have a fast track pro)the head phone jack will give you a clear indication for what the real sound is like coming through it unit. I try to keep the level low on the unit to prevent clipping by adjusting the volume on the Fast Track (FOCUSRITE). I have blinking LED's and it shows red when clipping... just like your unit (a little different, though). If you keep the level as high as you can without going to far to cause a red line, you'll be good in the recording process. From there you will adjust the volume once into LOGIC from either volume per track or via eq, compressors and such.
    I hope this helps.

  • Logic Express 7 and Multiple Delta 44 cards...

I have a G4 450 running Tiger and I have 3 Delta 44 audio cards/breakout boxes installed in the machine. I can't get Logic Express to recoginze all three cards. In fact, it only allows me to record 2 channels of 1 breakout box. However the delta driver software recognizes the cards and all of the channels. Has anyone tried this or has anyone been able to get a similar configuration to work?
I was able to get the three delta 44's to work on a PC running Sonar 3.0 Producer but heard that Macs make better recording machines. Also the PC is now non-functioning.
I have already tried to update the driver software for the delta cards and OS update.
    Mac G4   Mac OS X (10.4.2)

    Hi,
I've told you before, in coreaudio!
see the Device Aggregation (easy as create a new folder)
    it explains in detail: http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/coreaudio/
I'm on Panther not on Tiger couldn't expand much than I did.
    "Device Aggregation
Mac OS X Tiger now allows you to use multiple audio devices together to increase the number of input and output channels. You can combine devices of like sampling rate together, whether via FireWire, PCI or built-in, into a single aggregated device. Set up is easy via Audio MIDI Setup and your new “virtual” device will automatically show up in all applications on the system."
    Best regards,

  • Difference Between Logic Express 8 and Pro 8

I was close to purchasing Logic Express after finding out the store ran out of Logic Pro. I held off Express because i wasn't sure if i would get "some" of the same features. Im mostly looking for the feature that Pro has, where the audio "time stretches" itself according to tempo. I know earlier versions of Express couldn't do that. I didn't know if Express editing was the same as Pro. I like the fact that in Pro you can just grab and cut audio instead of double clicking the audio and editing it in a separate window (WEAK)!!!

  • Logic Express 8 and Logic Studio Comparison chart

Does anyone know if Apple have released a comparison chart for Logic pro 8 and express 8? I know the main differences but I would like to see them on a chart.
    Any ideas?

    *Ur Query*
The Compression you are inquiring about is an app called Compressor which used to be bundled with DVD Pro. This app which is now happily nesting within the Logic Studio app is used to compress your audio files via using different codex from Quicktime. In so doing it makes your audio & Visuals ready for a large selection of pro delivery formats I.e for the web and for DVD etc.
    *Apples direction*
What Apple in its infinite wisdom did with Logic studio, was to look at it current Pro App Audio visual suite, FinalCut Pro, Soundtrack Pro, DVD Pro & Logic and started to stream line them. So everything pertaining to Audio in these other apps was transferred over to the Logic app which makes sense if you look at the bigger picture. This left Final Cut Pro and DvD Pro which have been brought together under the guise of FinalCut Studio here everything is housed pertaining to the Visual side of things.
    Summery
So what you now have is a greatly slim-lined Pro App product line. The future is to have these as a clear brand which will provide the professional Multimedia business with a one stop solution to their audio visual needs.

  • Logic express 7 and reason

I know this topic has been discussed before, but my computer knowledge is poor so I have no clue what you guys are talking about. Maybe in baby steps, can you guys help me to figure out how to send my audio files made by logic express 7 to someone else (who lives far away) that uses Reason so he can add some of his stuff to my song? I really want to collab with him, but I have no clue how to send the music file or if Reason will accept the file. Thanks for help.

For you the step is easy. Just send him a .mp3 file (or better yet, an uncompressed .aiff) of your stuff. The person that receives your file will be the one who has to take on the task of using Reason with an audio editor like Logic or Pro-tools or Cubase (via the Propellerhead's Rewire software) so he can play along with your file.
Or, conversely, he can load in your file to one of Reason's sample player modules. I've never done that because it's an arcane process, but it's possible from what I've been told. Anybody else deal with this?
Personally, I use Logic through Rewire and used Reason as an "instrument," but I've done it with Pro-tools as well.
