Logic Express - Logic Pro

Hi guys. I purchased my MacBook Pro + Logic Express around 2 years ago. I heard a rumour recently that because i bought Logic Express i can now upgrade to Logic Pro for free via the App Store. Is this true? or am i being really gullible/hopeful?

Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You can't upgrade to Logic Pro for free. If you open the App Store and try to download Logic Pro, you will see that it will charge you the cost of the application. Also, note that the license of applications bought in a DVD can't be transferred to the Mac App Store without purchasing them

  • Logic express and pro 7 to logic studio 9 upgrade question

I have logic express 7, logic studio 7, and just upgraded to logicstudio 9, but my serial number is not recognized. All my copies should be registered with apple already, so how should i best remedy this?

Hi again and thanks for the reply.
I tried to follow your instructions but isn't working still. I think I did something wrong. Here is what I did:
    1. Went to Midi Setup, double clicked on IAC driver and then checked the "device is online" box. It says its on Bus 1.
2a. In pro tools, went to peripherals, at the synchronization tab I left MTC reader port: ANY and put MTC Generator Port: IAC Driver, Bus 1
2b. Then went to the Machine Control tab, enabled MIDI Machine Control and set it to IAC Driver, Bus 1.
3a. In Logic Express I went to preferences>Midi>Sync and selected listen to MMC Input and took Midi Clock off. I see where it says MTC but there isn't a place to make it the slave.
I know I'm not doing this right because I hit play on Pro Tools and Logic Express just laughs at me
Can you help me through this. I'm a novice with Macs and Syncing.
    Thanks again friend.

  • Logic Express to Pro Tools for mixdown

    Hi!
Really sorry if this topic has been covered before, but all I can find on the various Logic boards I know of are ways of doing this in Logic Pro that aren't available in Express.
My band recorded an EP in Logic Express, which was great, but the engineer we'd like to use to mix it is Pro Tools-only. I know Pro Tools can load up AIF files, but the problem I have is that each track has different start and end points. If I gave him the individual tracks as is, we'd be spending all day synching them up.
I've thought of two ways I can prepare the files for him. Please let me know if they're ********.
    1) Setting the fader at unity (0) and bouncing each track individually to a 24 bit WAV or AIF file while the rest are muted.
    2) Manually cutting and pasting "fake" beginnings and endings of audio information to each track, then using the Glue tool to create a new, merged track. This way, I figure, each track should be in perfect synch with the rest.
    Any help appreciated. Thanks! Rufe.

    Hi,
    half ok,
bounce one by one to a folder (mute the other tracks) from the start to the finish, PCM 24 bit (44.1 if you going to make cd's), WAV, SDII or AIFF,
that way, all files start and finish in the same spot, Inside Protools you cut the silence parts and don't forget to place a dither plug-in in the master-fader.
    Regards,
    Jorge

  • Difference between Logic Express and Pro? ro

Is the actual logic part the exact same? Is it that with the Pro you get all the extras? (soundtrack pro, qmaster, logic node, compressor, main stage, wave burner, jam packs). Is that what makes it the "pro" version? Or does the actual Logic app offer more abilities? If so, I can't seem to see much a difference. thanks

The app itself is indeed the same, but the included content and plug-ins are different.

  • Logic Express VS Pro

What is the difference between Express & Pro?

Thnak you for $300 it might be worth it.. There are things in PTLE's plug in that I like. So I might do the final editing on PT. I have Audio Technica Condensor that needs Phantom.. I guess the PB's input does not give you that 48V. I still will end up using MBox for Phantom and it may defeat getting Logic and recording.
I am hearing that PT is really not good for Midi stuff. Can you tell me an example where Logic might be better for Midi editing.
I had experience where I had keyboard player record a piano track on MBox via Midi (M-Audio Uno) and she struggled with keeping in time due to latency. The notes didn't react immediatey. I took the track hone and it was lagging. I ended up quantasizing. When she heard that she said it lost all her feel. I was using Sample Tank's Piano Sample.
Will Logic be better in this case.?

  • Logic Express or Pro Tools

I am currently considering purchasing Pro Tools with and MAudio firewire interface. I am intrigued by the ads for Logic because they promote "edit your music to Quicktime Movies". That appeals to me because I do alot of slideshows. I am mainly just a video hobbyist/ex musician. I would like to get some stuff recorded for fun and maybe get my kids into playing music as well. Can anyone tell me what they really enjoy about Logic that you think I should know. I have a G4 power book that I seems to keep up nicely with everything I run on it.

I use a Presonus Firepod which does me very well. If the Firepod is out of budget, have a look at the Firebox. I have just finished doing a quite high profile job on a MOTU 828mk2, which I would strongly advise, but which is also nealy 600 quid. The great thing about Forepods is that they have 8 XLR/phone inputs on them. Edirol get great reviews. I know that the FA 66 is a great soundcard, and I know many who will swear by it. They are great value for money, and I reckon sound really like they should cost much more.
David's time sig thing is very important and thank you David for adding it, otherwise, although you get good sync with your frames, you have very little idea which second you're in hehe. If you want other things like 29.97 drops and non-drops, well, all I can say is good luck, and I cannot think of a work-around. Good luck! Best, Fred

  • Request LINK of Logic Express vs Pro PDF, etc

Can somone point me to somewhere that shows the differences?
    Thanks

Broadcast Wave ist not the .wav you know from the
Windows world. Broadcast Wave is newer and is based
on .wav. Normal .wav should work fine, if not you can
    convert it to AIFF.
Well what then is the difference? I have broadcast wav as an option (Windows) with Cubase SX....but then I use 32 float, 96K, have a 192K convertors (which I know lite version doesn't support) and dither down anyway.
I guess I am asking, it Logic Lite good enough for album creation?
    thanks!

  • Final Cut Studio 2 Apple Loops, Jam Packs and Logic express 8 installation?

    Hi(Bonjour)!
I've currently use Final Cut Studio 2 +Soundtrack Pro 2.0.2+ application with all included Apple Loops.
I own several Jam Pack Apple Loops packages (with a less than impressive integration with Garage Band for older one).
I purchased Logic Express 8 pro today.
Is there more Apple Loops files included with Logic express 8 than with Soundtrack Pro 2?
What is the best way to install Logic express 8 Apple Loops to avoid duplicate loops files?
    Thank You.
    Michel Boissonneault

Well, the installation was very simple, no duplicate files and tight integration of GarageBand loops and JamPacks.

  • Can't open any files in Logic Express 8

    Hi out there,
I just installed Logic Exp. 8 out of the box. Runs nice as far as i can tell, but has a major bug with me: It won't open any projects or other files.
If i click the Projects in the Finder, they will open just fine. But I can't open them in Logic.
Import of Files into a project works fine.
Ideas anyone? Update anyone (wink, wink to apple)?
    Cheers,
    Fox

You may be having the same problem I observed, and I think it may be a bug.
After upgrading to Logic Express 8, when I save projects they appear as a folder rather than a file in the finder, with the .logic suffix. Previous versions saved projects as a .iso file. On another machine I upgraded Logic Pro to Logic Studio 8, and here projects are saved as a .logic file. My guess is the .logic file created is supposed to be a file for both Logic Pro and Express, with package contents under OS X ... but for some reason this is appearing as a folder when created by Logic Express, with the package contents visible ... so you can't double click on anything to open them.
Has anyone else seen this? is there a workaround or is this a bug?
In the meantime, note that you can launch the Logic Express .logic 'folders' by dragging the and dropping the entire .logic folder onto the Logic Express icon in the dock.

  • Can I use logic express with my Macbook

I just got a macbook and i was wondering if I can use Logic express or pro on it??

    yes!
it of coourse depends what you want to do with it - but yes!
by all acounts logic express and pro will run very well on the new macbooks.
I'm using pro on my old powerbook - just about manage to use it live and it's slow but useable to get ideas down onto and am using an intel imac as my main studio computer with logic pro 7.2.3 - it's essentially the same as a macbook except it doesn't have integrated graphics and it has a faster hard disk which does make a difference. Apart from that i'm sure your new macbook would toast my powerbook in terms of performance.
Be sure to get the intel version of logic (7.2 and above) as an older "ppc" version may run but is not supported and would probably run very slowly.
    Enjoy!

  • Logic Express Vs. The motherload!

I wish there was a comparison forum for logic express vs. pro, but since there isn't I choose one randomly and am asking what logic pro has that logic express doesn't...? (besides a price range that is 700 bucks higher)

  • Logic Express 7.1.1 + Edirol FA-66 = Latency?

I'll start this off immediately stating that I understand that I've probably got something configured wrong. I bought this Edirol FA-66 after finding a latency issue between LE7 and my Digidesign Mbox 1. I didn't expect it with the firewire interface.
When I set it all up and record enable tracks 1 & 2, there's a huge echo. So, I switch the monitoring knob all the way over to "MONIT" and it disappears. I understand that I'm monitoring the signal from my mixer.
When I finish the first two tracks, I record enable tracks 3 & 4 and mute those tracks, turning the monitoring knob to the middle, so I'm getting a mix of the signal from the computer and my mixer. When I hit record, the drum machine seems to play ahead of the previous recording. The computer is controlling the drum machine, so I know it's on time...
If you can help, I'd be grateful. I'm clueless as to what's going-on.
Here's what I'm dealing with... please tell me if you see anything wrong. I've been combing this forum for a couple of days and nothing seems to work:
    01) Powerbook G4 867 MHz w/ 640 MB RAM
    02) OSX 10.4.6
    03) Logic Express 7.1.1
    04) Edirol FA-66
    05) EZQuest 120 GB harddrive, 2nd in the chain with the FA-66
    06) I've ensured that:
    - A) The switch on the interface is 44.1 kHz
    - B) The System Preferences > Sound section has the Edirol FA-66 as the IN and OUT.
    - C) The Audio MIDI Set-up audio section recognizes the Edirol FA-66 as the IN and OUT with 44.1 kHZ as the sampling rate.
    - D) The Audio > Sample Rate menu item in LE7 is at 44.1 kHz
    07) The LE7 Preferences > Audio > General > Plug-In delay compensation option is switched to OFF.
    08) The Preferences > Audio > Drivers > I/O Buffer Size option is set to 256 -and- switching to 128 makes little difference in the latency issue -and- going lower than that causes pops in the recording.
    09) Software Monitoring is checked.
    10) The Preferences > Audio > Drivers > Recording Delay fader is right in the middle at "0".

Thanks for the response. Can someone explain CoreAudio to me? I feel like an idiot, but I'm assuming it's what I can tweak in the Systems Preferences > Sound window. Is it an actual application?
If you could confirm the following, I'll give your suggestion a shot and let you know how it worked:
    1) Delete preference files related to Logic and CoreAudio:
I didn't see anything in there that specifically looked like "coreaudio" in there, so this is what I'm thinking to delete:
In harddrive > Library > Preferences folder:
    - com.apple.audio.DeviceSettings.plist
    - com.apple.RegLogicExpress.plist
    - com.apple.soundpref.plist
In harddrive > Users > username > Library > Preferences folder:
    - com.apple.audio.AudioMIDISetup.plist
    - com.apple.logic.express.plist
    - com.digidesign.CoreAudioManager.plist (Mbox is gone!)
    - DigiSetup.OSX
    - Logic > com.apple.logic.express
    - Logic > com.apple.logic.express.cs
    2) Run OnyX:
I've never used this before. I downloaded OnyX 1.6.9... I'm assuming you're directing me to "Execute" in the Maintenance section. It's defaulted to Verify and Repair Permissions in OSX, but that's about it. Should I optimize the system? Reset anything in that section?
    - Also, wondering if OnyX is somehow superior to the Disk Utility that comes with the system?
    3) Reset Open Firmware:
    I found the following -
    http://www.hmug.org/Tips/ResetOF.html
    - Should I bother rebuilding the desktop database (Command + Option keys during startup) or zapping the PRAM (Command + Option + P + R keys during startup) first, or just go ahead and follow the instructions on that page.
Hey, thanks again for all the help. I've been able to figure-out how to fix most any problem I've experienced through these forums.

  • Help! Logic Express 8 does not work on my Mac Pro with OS 10.5.1

Hello, I hope somebody around here is able to help me.
I have got a new Mac Pro with one Quad core processor since yesterday and it works fine except for Logic Express 8 (version 8.0.1). Whenever I start Logic the program crashes as soon as "Core Audio initialisieren" is shown in the display. I have tried to reinstall the program, deleted it completely and installed it again. It is always the same.
Has anyone else experienced this problem? What can I do about it? I am a musician and I really need Logic Express to run.

Confused. 10.6 is DVD based. Only Lion and above are downloads.
And best install is not to upgrade. Do a clean install  - on another drive.
Corrupt partition tables or bad sectors or no room to adjust the partitions or the directory is corrupt.
ERASE the drive if Repair Disk didn't work.

My iMac came with Logic Express 8 Pre installed. How do I get it to work on my Mac Book Pro

Along with your OS and applications installation DVDs, you should have gotten an LE8 installation DVD along with its manual and serial numbers when you bought your iMac.
Your license allows you to install LE8 on two computers as long as they are your computers, you are the sole user, and you do not run Logic on both simultaneously. So dig out your installation DVD, install it on your MacBook Pro and enter your serial number and you will be good to go.
