Logic Express Manual Help File?

Exploring Logic E is almost worthless. Why doesn't the search function work with Logic E Manual Help?

I just got off the phone with AplCare. This problem was fixed using the disk utility and "repair permissions" function. For future reference, it was suggested that I should perform this process on a regular basis ("every week or so"). As a PC guy transitioning this was new to me. I think I have my help file functioning properly now.

  • LOGIC EXPRESS 9 HELP!

what features does logic express 9 have for vocal editing like reverb delay?

    Hi,
This is the kind of broad question which would be best researched by googling.
I just did a Google search for "logic express 9 vocal editing":
I quickly found this link to the 195 page Logic Express 9 Effects PDF file.( It was the 6th entry on Google's list.):
    http://documentation.apple.com/en/logicexpress/effects/Logic%20Express%209%20Eff ects%20(en).pdf
You can download that file and search it for the word "vocal". I tried it and got 51 matches.
Additionally, a Google search has the potential to find many other useful resources for more nuanced information including related youtube videos, recommendations, evaluation, tips, etc.
When you do a Google search, it automatically looks at related information in all of the Logic Apple Support Communities, such as this one, along with anything else it can find.
    I hope this helps,
    John

  • Adobe Photoshop Express Organizer - help file?

I've recently started using the online Adobe Photoshop Express Organizer, but I can't seem to find a help file to assist in using it. I think I've figured most of it out, but I don't know what the difference is between "Album" and "Group Album." Has anyone seen a complete help file for Adobe Photoshop Express Organizer which might explain this, plus other questions I may have in the future??
    Thanks!
    Jeff

Photoshop Express has its own forum, which is here:

and you may get more help with this question if you post there. Good luck!

  • Logic Express- Need Help

I've just started to use "Logic Express" after upgrading from Life's "Garageband" and I've been working on this new track, So my question is, how do I use the velocity tool and does it make a difference to the quality of my mix, I'm trying to get the instrument sounds to blend in better is there a advance way to measure it's instruments parameter any advise would be helpful, Thanks.

Velocity in MIDI editing is used for adjusting expression. Yes, it makes a difference, because most often it affects the volume of the instrument. Sometimes velocity is also used to change filter behaviours. So yeah, the higher the velocity, the higher the volume and the more radical the change in filters with parameters linked to velocity value.
To use velocity tool is very simple. After selecting it, the pointer changes to the arrow with a 'v' symbol on its right side. You can select note events and then click-hold on them: move mouse up/down to change the velocity value.
When the value is changed like that with several note events selected, values are changed in the similar way (each note's initial velocity is changed by certain points). However, when you hold Shift+Option while doing that, velocity for all selected notes will be adjusted to the same value.

  • Drums on Logic Express 8 Help needed

    Hi there,
I recently brought an imac, purely for my girfriend who writes and records her own music. We have Logic Express 8, and my partner loves it compared to cubase on her old pc! I myself play the drums, and would love to record drums onto this program. I have a real 13 piece kit, with mesh heads fitted to keep the noise down. Recording via a mic is not an option due to noise etc. Is there a way of triggering my drums to get a sound in Logic? I apologise if this sounds crazy, but I am a bit behind on the times! Any help on whether this is possible and what I will need is greatly appreciated!
    Many thanks,
    Keith.

Their are multiple ways to record drums:
    * firstly, acoustic drums could only be micd, if you are looking to record with what you have, im afraid that's your only option
*secondly, you could always use a sampler and trigger your drum samples with a midi keyboard, but i hate this method personally
*thirdly, you could invest in a program such as EZ-Drummer, which has some very nice drum loops all organized by tempo...all you do is simply drag the loop into the arrange window, and if you'd like, you could open the piano roll and manipulate that loop
*and the fourth (and in my opinion the best) method, is to sell those acoustic drums, and buy yourself an electronic drum kit...you can quantize your notes, you could load any sound sample you want on those pads to get a very diverse range of recordings...and best of all, no microphones! also, volume isn't a problem, if you want to play at 2 in the morning without waking the neighbors, then just through on some headphones and jam away
im not sure if you wanted to know any of that cause i may of misinterpreted your question, but i tried.

  • Playback Stops Itself In Logic Express 9 - Help!

Hi, I've never used these forums before, so I'm sorry for anything I do wrong!
I have the latest version of Logic Express 9 on A 2.53Ghz, 8GB macbook pro, and have been working on a MIDI and audio project, which was playing all the way through, and working fine until just now. It stops playing, and will not start playing at any point after bar 77.4 - i have no idea why it's doing this - please explain how to fix this or what's up!
    Cheers!

Do you have the end marker set to 77.4 accidentally?

  • Having trouble with toontracks superior drummer 2.0 in Logic express. Help!

    Hello,
I'm using logic express and dragging sample grooves from Toontrack's Superior drummer 2.0 Metal Foundry (Death and thrash Library) into a instrument track and the playback is choppy. I receive the message "Error while trying to synchronize Audio and Midi. Sample rate 43029 recognized. Check conflict between Logic Express and external device"
Could you please explain what this means and how to overcome it?
    Thank you!

  • $5 Starbucks card to first successful answer: how to import midi timecode into Logic Express 9 from Roland VS-880 or Ensoniq ASR-10

I will literally mail a $5 Starbucks card or gift $5 via paypal to the first person whose response gets me success.  Then after all responses are provided and I'm successful with my issue, I'll also raffle off $5 to one of ALL respondents by random pick.
    Problem/question:
I can't figure out how to import midi timecode data from either an Ensoniq ASR-10 or Roland VS-880 Vxpanded into Logic Express 9, so I can then use Logic Express 9 as the master.  No manuals seem to explain that; I just can't find it.
    Background/basics:
    1.  My ultimate goal will be to move all midi data from the Ensoniq ASR-10 floppies and all digital audio files from the VS-880 into Logic Express 9.  Once the midi timing is imported into a Logic Express 9 file, I'll import the data from the Ensoniq & Roland via steps 2a & 2b below.
1a.  Ten years ago I somehow (am in the process of re-learning what I did 10 years ago) imported the midi timing into the Roland VS-880 Vxpanded from the ASR-10, and then used the VS-880 as the Master to control the ASR-10.   So my current status is that I use the Roland VS-880 as the master, and the Ensoniq ASR-10 as the slave.
    2.  FYI for anyone who might be in the same boat, wanting to transfer stuff from an Ensoniq ASR-10 and Roland VS-880 to the computer:
2a.  I will import all midi sequence data from my ASR-10 floppy disks via a utility purchased here, which will all a PC to read Ensoniq-formatted disks, and then just hopefully cut/paste midi files into Logic Express 9 (FYI only):  www.chickensys.com
2b.  Then will import all the individual WAV files from my Roland VS-880 to Logic Express 9 using a method learned here (FYI only): http://www.vsplanet.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=985974&PHP SESSID=b1d2f57be4a1d37d49787400213b22df
2c.  I'll then combine them all into Logic Express 9.
So - how the heck do I capture/import the midi timecode into Logic from either the roland or ensoniq using midi?
I'm don't think that cutting/pasting the midi data into a Logic Express 9 sequence file (step 2a above) will do that, because there are all kinds of tempo & time signature changes in the midi files unfortunately.
    THANK YOU and Merry Christmas!!
    Andy

OK doesn't look possible.  Closing discussion.

  • Open Logic Express 7.2 songs in Pro 8.2..?

I have just upgraded and thought that this would be possible, but the Express Projects are greyed out in the Import menu.
    Anyone else tried this..?

I occasionally have an issue importing Logic Express 7.2 files into LP8.02, though usually they import just fine. I think it has something to do with Logic Express's bundled instruments as they throw up occasional errors when importing.
I've never had it greyed out though, so can't help there, other than suggesting removing the prefrence files

  • Is Logic Express worth it???

I am building a quality (humble) recording studio off of an iMac G5; I will be using the M-Audio FireWire 1814 as my audio interface and Pro Tools M-Powered as my main recording application; however, I have learned that there can be some advantages to having more than 1 audio/midi sequencer on a machine.
I am about to order the iMac G5 and my question is:
-- is it worth it to pay the extra $200-300 to have logic express installed when I will be using ProTools?
-- are Logic Express's MIDI capabilities strong enough to use over Pro Tools?
-- what are the main differences between logic express and logic pro (other than $700, or should I wait to invest in that also)?
-- in practice, when would Logic Express be helpful when working with ProTools?
I am new to recording with a MAC; Logic Express seems like it could be helpful, but I'm just worried that I'd be spending $300 on something I'd already have with ProTools.
    Thank you,
    ~Nicholas

    Hi Nicholas,
The general consensus is that logic is far easier to use than PT when you have any decent amount of midi to deal with.
If you are going to use plenty of virtual instruments, then I think it will be worthwhile for you to have logic.
As for the pro version, you get a whole bunch of virtual instruments bundled with it, plus the ability to use more than 12 inputs, and a bunch of extra editing options and plugins etc. etc.
If you goto www.apple.com/logicexpress you should find a link to a comparison list between express and pro.
Having said all that, PT is a great programme (even though i prefer logic) and you may find that the best course of action is to get used to working with what you have before lashing out on more software.
    Cheers

  • Sample Rate Problems going from Garage Band to Logic Express

I've downloaded the Trial Version of Logic Express. When it launched it changes the i/o sample Rate that is required by Garage Band (I'm using a digi002 i/o). The result is that garage band plays back at a fraction of it normal rate (sounds like crap).
It wasn't a problem until the trial ran out on Logic Express. I could change the sample rate back inside Logic. Hummm ... what to do? I don't see any place to change the rate in the garage band preferences or in the core audio interface. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    G4 1.25 dual, mirror Mac OS X (10.4.6)
    G4 1.25 dual, mirror Mac OS X (10.3.9)
    G4 1.25 dual, mirror   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I've never had any such problem with Logic Express. GB files just load up, and work fine. Did you change anything in Logic Express? There are setting for that there, but even songs I open after I changed LE to 24 bit, work fine.
Wait, are you saying LE is changing the sample rate, and then it stays that way when you open GB? Hmmm, What do you have LE set for? I think mine is set at 24/96, but I'd have to look to be sure. But I am not using the same interface as you are. It might be something you just have to live with. Have you tried posting this in the LE7 forum? Maybe one the gurus there knows what you can do.
Oh, and I am using GB 2, not GB 1, but I am not sure that is relevant.

  • Please help with Logic Express 7 and using DFH plugin!

Hey guys, I'm really in a tight spot here as I have no idea how to get my setup working properly. I recently bought an entirely new Imac, Logic Express 7, and a drum plugin called Drumkit From **** Superior (VSTi I believe is the type of plugin they call it). It is supposed to be compatable but I see no way to get it to show up as a plugin. I tried some other programs and it shows up as a plugin and I'm able to get into the interface, but I can't in LE7.
It is supposed to be compatable as a "rewire" plugin or something like that, but I'm not too sure how to approach that differently, both manuals are very vague.
    Basically, I'm wondering:
    1. How would I go about getting Drumkit From **** Superior to show up as a "plugin" (and what it would be under) if I have to use it a "rewire"?
    2. If I could get it running as a plugin, how would I go about programming a drum part using that "drumkit" in Logic Express?
Thanks, any help is greatly appreciated.
    -Daniel

It's a tough one man, I'm actually wanting to go for EZdrummer which I think comes under the same umbrealla as DFH, the patch will come to let you upgrade to intel hopefully by September so hold onto that plug in as I think it'll be worth it in the long run. In the mean time do you have any other options to make beats?
I use Reason 3.0, I sequence my beats using Reason Drum Kits 2.0 and export them as WAV or AIFF files into Logic, do you have anything similar that you can do? write you beats else where and import into Logic?

  • Logic Express Beginner begging for help

I recently made the step up into the Mac world and love everything about my new mac book pro except I am struggling with Logic Express. I have used Adobe Audition for many years and know it inside and out however...I cant even figure out to record my voice with a microphone.
I work in radio and only need the program to record my voice and to edit interviews (mp3 or wav files) for use on the radio. I tried hooking up my mobile pre usb pre amp up and downloaded drivers but couldn't get it to record. I can record using the built in my mic but the quality is insufficient for the airwaves.
I know this must be something very simple but I am struggling , thank you so much in advance for any help you can give.
    Brian Douglas
    Q102 Cincinnati

    Hi,
I'd start with opening a Finder window, and go to Applications > Utilities > Audio/Midi Configuration. If you open this program, you can set your default audio inputs and outputs, and set the input level, for example. If your interface doesn't show up here, you can be pretty sure that Logic won't see it, either.
Then go to Logic, and look in Preferences > Audio >Devices. You should choose your USB preamp as your Device. As you can see, you can only choose 1 device here. BUT, in the Audio/Midi Configuration utility, you can "build" a virtual device consisting of more than one device (see the Audio menu of the utility). Just in case you'd like to use more than 1 interface in the future...
Anyway, check page 99 of Help > Logic Express 8 User Manual.
    Kind regards,
    Jaap

  • Logic Express 7 crashes before files finish loading + crash report?!!

    Hi I'm a newbie!
And I'm going crazy here. Hope someone can help me. Was trying to get into a studio to work on this track in 2 days time.
I'm running LE7(vers 7.1.1) and started a song that had about 3 Garriton Personal Orchestra(GPO) sounds alongside some EXS sounds. It started crashing quite a bit. Screen was freezing, crashed when I tried to play the song etc.
Now when I try to load the song, Logic starts loading the EXS files then pauses at one particular file(PS-11 wav). It continues to successfully load the GPO files, leaving just the last PS-11 wav to be found but then a notice appears saying 'sample not found' and the whole thing shuts down leaving just the desktop on the screen, even if LE7 was running prior to that. It opens other songs as normal.
I've checked - Library/Application Support/Logic/Sampler Instruments the exs folder IS in there
I checked - Library/Application Support/Logic/EXS Factory Samples and the wav file (and all other PS-11 wavs) were not in there. So I found them and put them back(was that correct thing to do?).
I rebooted .... and still same problem. I've been looking on the forum for others clues but to no joy.
All this stuff does facinate me but I desperately need to get on with the track.
Would this crash report help to clarify? Somebody. Please... Help!

    Hi Rob
I've had exactly the same problem as you. Since installing the ProKit 5.1 update Logic Pro 7 just crashes on attempting to start the application.
Now I know we all should upgrade to Logic Pro 9 but some of us just dont have the cash. This wasnt even mentioned on the Apple site at all, no warnings, no mention that it only works with Logic 8 & 9.
I'm really annoyed and angry now since I've lost 2 days of work thanks to this. And it feels like Apple is operating like Microsoft in the way they want to bleed money out of everyone. A simple warning to users of Logic 7 would have been nice.
So to conclude, Rob - I really feel for you. I know your pain. And trust me, I'm not going to take it lying down. A warning should have been issued. I expected this type of issue from the migration from OS9 to OSX years ago but not from OSX to another OSX!

  • Transfer Digital Performer files into Logic Express?

I have some old recordings that are on a ADAT tape. A friend of mine said he could transfer them to Digital Performer. Does Logic open DP files?
    Paul

Unfortunately, as was pointed out, Logic Express does not open Digital Performer files.
Not does it import OMF files, nor Broadcast Wave files, which means you can't export time-stamped waves from DP and import into LE. If you know someone with Logic Pro, it DOES support Broadcast Wave. This could be one work around.
    Otherwise, you'll have two options.
    1) Import the ADAT recordings directly into LE using an interface that supports ADAT In (MOTU 828mkII comes to mind). This will only work if you can re-assign the inputs of the interface to be the first 8, since LE only "sees" the first 12. This is one of the major limitations of LE, and why it's not really suited for "pro" work.
    2) Import into DP, and then bounce the tracks in DP as separate WAVE of AIFF files, then import them directly into LE in the Audio Window. As long as each file starts (and ends, preferably) at the same time (i.e. as set in the DP bounce), you should have no problem aligning the tracks in LE7.
Number 2 is probably the best solution. Just remember that each of the WAVE files created in DP should begin at the same time (i.e. 0 0 0 0). This will GREATLY simplify the import into LE and make aligning the tracks a painless procedure. You can edit later in LE.
    Hope this helps.
