Logic froze..... recover?

I have logic 8 and was in the middle of something when upon loading up a plugin (play), a white box appeared instead of the plugin window. Shortly thereafter, the the cursor became the beach ball and it has been that way for the last 5 minutes or so.
Is there anything I can do? It if crashes and closes itself, it will save a copy as "(project name)crashed" or something like that, but logic isnt responding. Yes, I know, save more often and such, but I didnt. Is there anything I can do?

(I would edit if I could find an edit button in this new layout)
I'm going to go ahead and assume it's because of the size of my template. Play for OSX still doesnt have 64 bit support (thanks EWQL). Anything I can do about this? Not that it would matter, since I'm running logic 8 and dont plan on paying money for an upgrade until I see what Logic 10 is all about.

  • Logical Standby recover with RMAN

    Hi All,
I have a test environment with Primary DB Server, Physical Standby and Logical Standby.
The Logical Standby DB (cur_log_stdb) is backed up every evening by RMAN and I have a question:
If I recover my Logical Standby DB from backup and switch replication to new Logical Standby DB (new_log_stdb) it will work or not?
    My steps e.g.:
    1. Make a new server for my new_log_stdb and repair structure of catalogs;
    2. Repair listener.ora and tnsnames.ora files from cur_log_stdb to new_log_stdb;
    3. Restore DB with RMAN from backup to new_log_stdb;
    4. On cur_log_stdb execute "alter database stop logical standby apply";
    5. Change a DNS name from cur_log_stdb to new_log_stdb;
    6. On new_log_stdb execute "alter database start logical standby apply immediate";
I'm not sure that archivelogs will apply to the new_log_stdb for period since rman backup was created.
But if this plan won't work how can I restore Logical Standby DB from RMAN backup and resume replication from Primary?
    Configuration:
    Oracle Linux 6.4
    Oracle Database 11.2.0.3
Primary and Physical with Data Guard

    Hello;
The only way to know for sure is to test it. You are asking somebody you don't know to confirm a recovery test for you. You have to perform the test yourself to be certain.
If your plan does not work you can always rebuild the Standby.
    Best Regards

  • Logical Standby working issues Oracle 9i, Windows

    Hi,
Set up Oracle 9i Logical Standby on Windows. (instructions as per Oracle Documentation)
Did not have any issues setting up.
While setting up the Logical Standby, Recovered the Primary Database until Oct 10/09 8:16 pm
Registered the archive log in the logical standby generated hence and the FAL took care of copying/registering the rest of the archivelogs.
Created and inserted some records in Primary database and could see them in Standby.
    So far so good.
On Oct11 data was entered into Primary database. Archivelogs were shipped to Standby, I could see them registered in DBA_LOGSTDBY_LOG.
The APPLIED_SCN,NEWEST_SCN were in sync as per DBA_LOGSTDBY_PROGRESS.
Today, we had some issues with data and when we queried the user tables: (no skip settings)
Couldn't see any data in standby past the recovery...
No errors reported in DBA_LOGSTDBY_EVENTS. No errors in Alert log also.
    What could be happening?
    Thanks,
    Madhuri

    I figured it out...
Today, we had some issues with data and when we queried the user tables: (no skip settings)
Couldn't see any data in standby past the recovery...I was using two tables as random spot check and both did not get updated. So, I was under the impression SQL APPLY did not do anything.
But, it did apply the redo on the rest of the tables.
These 2 tables in question were skipped because both of them had Function Based indexes.
They are very huge individual tables .
So, exporting them from Primary database and Importing them into Standby Database. Skipping DML in DataGuard.
    That solved the problem.

  • Keep getting message pop up "Error reading/writing file  "com.apple.logic.pro.cs": Logical end-of-file reached during read operation," and "The Preferences are not loaded completely. Save them to "com.apple.logic.pro.cs" anyway?" Using Logic pro 8. ???

Logic froze while I was working on something so I forced quit.  Now every time I open LOGIC a message pops up that says:
    "Error reading/writing file
    “com.apple.logic.pro.cs”:
Logical end-of-file reached during read operation."
The only button option is cancel so I press it and another message appears that says:
"The Preferences are not loaded completely.
Do not save them, as you would overwrite the Preferences file with incomplete data."
Then when i close logic a box appears saying:
"The Preferences are not loaded completely.
    Save them to "com.apple.logic.pro.cs" anyway?"
There are 3 button options to press; ok, cancel or dont save.
I press "don’t save" cuz I don't want to ruin anything.
I found a discussion located here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/9564253#9564253 that says if I delete the file "com.apple.logic.pro.cs" it will resolve the problem.  If I do this will I loose or mess anything up at all, automation, saved channel strips customizations, saved effects, synth, or ultrabeat customizations etc? Or especially will I loose any work I've done?  I have hundreds pieces of music files I've created.  I'm scared to mess anything up with all the hours and months of work I've done.  Is there anyway to fix this without loosing anything?  I'm using Logic Pro 8.
    Thank you

You can safely delete this file - its the preference file for control surface settings - you haven't said whether you're actually using a control surface or not, if so, you will have to set it up again. A new file will be created when you fire Logic up again, but of course it will contain default settings. If you have a complicated control surface setup, remember to keep a backup copy somewhere in case any future problems arise.
Other than that, you really have nothing to be scared about - hopefully your problem is as simple as that and there isn't an underlying problem (a corrupt hard drive, for example). You seem concerned about losing work, so I guess you want to think about backing that up on a regular basis too. If you're saving your projects to your system drive, do get an external one for this. And also check that you have plent of free space on your system drive - you need to keep about a quarter or third of it free for your OS and programs to run properly (some temporarily stored files can be quite large).

  • Firewire bus stopped working

    Hello
This afternoon my iMac G5 firewire stopped working. I was using seven firewire drives and one firewire audio interface a MOTU 896. I have used this config for about three months with no problems. I was in Reason and then I booted Logic pro (also used IAC rewire between the two programs before) that's when the fun started. Logic froze on mid-boot. Then reason locked up as well. At that point on reboot my iMac no longer saw any of my firewire devices.
System Profiler shows nothing on the Firewire bus.

    This appeared in MacFixIt yesterday:
    +MacInTouch Reader+
+I have a three-year-old iMac G5 that had a problem since I bought it that I've only just got to the bottom of - its fans would start up (loudly) about thirty seconds after I shut it down. Nearly every time. I think I disabled it from going to sleep pretty soon after I got it, but I vaguely remember it not recovering from sleep and the fans coming on randomly. Eventually I also developed a power supply problem where the Mac wouldn't start up first time, and when it did start up would then switch itself off with no warning (replacing the power supply did fix that problem, at least).+
+Anyway, to cut a long story short, the problem with the Mac crashing (effectively) on shut down followed by the weird, random fan-coming-on thing, was only solved when I replaced my USB (D-Link) modem with one that uses Ethernet instead (a Netgear DG834).+
+I just want to spread the word. It drove me insane for three years and now I'm finally happy. I know my particular, specific problem was weird and maybe quite rare, but if you're using a USB modem with your iMac, maybe borrow something different from a friend for a while and see if it helps.+
The firewire problem may be due to faulty RAM, try running Rember and see if that finds any problems.

  • Don't use Time Machine!

Here's my tale of woe. I have an iomega 500GB drive that I designated as my Time Machine drive. Everything went fine during installation.
    Then:
    1. Everything slowed down to a minor crawl at first, but a major crawl later
    2. Programs began to launch with too many bounces.
    3. My curser turned into the spinning ball of the undead but only when I put it on my desktop
    4. At this point I was able to launch any program, except finder to see my files (nothing trivial). And as long as I kept my cursor within the parameters of the file interface, I was able to reach the top menu and force quit the program I was working with, because half of the time - the program itself would freeze up. Relaunching Finder did nothing.
    5. Then everything froze up, unable to launch any thing, spinning ball everywhere and I was *not even able to turn off my machine!* I had to press the button on the front of my G5 to shut down!
    6. I backed up and wiped my hard drive, reinstalled everything, except that I said no to the question of using my outboard drive for Time Machine.
Since then, I keep Time Machine turned off, and everything seems to be running fine, a bit slow in some areas. but that's to be expected on .0 of new software. So I put the source of blame at the feet of Time Machine, because it screws with the base of Apples GUI... Finder.

You're possibly being a little melodramatic in warning everyone off TM because you have had an issue. There are plenty of people who do not have issues, and those who have different issues.
Can you confirm that TM is actively using your drive when things grind to a halt? You haven't specifically mentioned drive access in your assessment of the issues. If not, then how can you be sure it is TM causing problems? Have you tried something as simple as turning TM off and seeing if it fixes things? A rebuild is an extreme step to take for a feature you can turn off!
Can you afford to turn it back on to test and shed some light on it for others who may have similar issues?
First, allow me to state that TM (over time) caused a complete and total lock up of my machine, so bad that I had to hold the button in to power it down at the end of the ordeal. This is not melodrama. It is a warning. If you're not having trouble, then good on you. Most importantly, this is my experience. If you want to open a thread saying "I Love TM", feel free to do so.
Now, due to TM's clockwork facility in backing up on the hour, testing the programs and Finder while TM was accessing the HD was really quite simple. This is what I did when it was getting bad: When ever a scheduled back up was about to happen, I would open Logic 8 (and other programs) - 5-10 minutes before hand and start recording (or other things - see below). At the appointed time, according to my clock, Logic froze dead in the water and displayed the spinning ball of joy. I tried this with the latest and greatest edition of Itunes - same results. With opening humongous 600dpi pictures from Adobe Bridge CS3 - same results I picked these three to show the least (Itunse) taxing to the most taxing on my machine (Logic and CS3 Bridge). All of this testing was done before, during and after the "backup". In the meantime (when I could) I saw the Activity Monitor spiking red like I've never seen it before.
And yes, I turned it on and off to see if it made a difference?! I believe that I mentioned wiping my dive only after all other avenues have been explored. I don't like to spend a day re-installing all of the software I own unless it's absolutely necessary.
And no, I'm sorry I can't turn it back on to help other people out. I'm sorry for that, really I am, But this is a semi-production machine (for my small studio), and I really can't afford to be a test monkey for Apple. When they fix TM in 5.1, I will turn it on and rejoice in it's greatness. In the meantime I will continue to back up the old fashioned way.

  • Messages not being processed

    Hi,
I experience an issue with 10g soa, about not having processed some messages sent to receive activities of my process.
I have my process deployed, I can initiate the instance of the process, I can move the flow of the process by calling some receive activities, but sometimes it seems it stucks on one of these receives. It happens randomly on various processes on various receive activities, like one day one receive operation doesn't proceed at all, and on another day it is another receive operation, and that is without any change to the process and redeployment.
I can see the message has been received by server, because I can query it from DLV_MESSAGE table from BPEL data source, and i see its STATE = 0, which is unprocessed. I am also sure that message has valid content and the correlation bits on the message are also correct, really there is no reason why such message should not be processed, it always worked until the moment it decides not to for unknown reason.
    My question:
    1. What causes messages to be not processed?
    2. What are known options to deal with this situation?
Currently I am in a condition where I can spot unprocessed messages, which is fine, so I am aware of the problem, but I am not able to deal with the problem. Even if I tried to submit the message via BPEL Console, it was not processed either.
    Thank you for any suggestions

Some blog information to support this case
    http://soacrux.blogspot.com/2010/08/automatic-recovery-program-for-pending.html
    Content repaste:
Automatic recovery program for pending BPEL call back messages
BPEL engine maintains all async call back messages into database table called dlv_message. You can see such all messages in BPEL console call-back manual recovery area. The query being used by bpel console is joined on dlv_message and work_item tables. This query simply picks up all call back messages which are undelivered and have not been modified with in certain threshold time.
Call-back messages are processed in following steps
BPEL engine assigns the call-back message to delivery service
Delivery service saves the message into dlv_message table with state 'UNDELIVERED-0'
Delivery service schedules a dispatcher thread to process message asynchronously
Dispatcher thread enqueues message into JMS queue
Message is picked up by MDB
MDB delivers the message to actual BPEL process waiting for call-back and changes state to 'HANDLED=2'
So given above steps, there is always possibility that message is available in dlv_message table but MDB is failed in delivering it to BPEL process which keeps message always in state= 0.
Following program can be tailored to suite one's own requirements to recover from such state-0 messages.
Note:- This program contains logic to recover from invocation and call-back messages. Please comment out appropriately.

  • ILUIEngineLibCarbon URLAccessLib "could not be found. Please install...

    Hi,
I'm new to this forum, but I need some quick emergency help please. I haven't made any recent changes to my Mac or Logic. Last time I worked on
    anything, all was problem-free.
Tried to open a song this morning and Logic froze while trying to open
up--got the stupid spinning ball. So I forced quit, repaired permissions,

got the message (during the point where it said "scanning audio units"):

If you are using a legally owned copy of Logic all the numbers for support are printed into the manual.
    cheers

  • M-Audio and iMac problems

I am having problems using the M-Audio Firewire 410 and my iMac.
    1. Whenever the computer is in sleep mode the M-Audio seems to be causing a "kernal panic" which causes OSX to quit unexpectedly . This morning, after I had tturned it on and off, iTunes, Mail and Logic froze while opening and could not be made to force quit. Each time I restarted, it happened. Finally, before I restarted it again, I unplugged the firewire cable and everything was OK.
    2. When I haven't used it for a few hours the sound is very distorted and sounds like it is coming out of a metal pipe. I have to restart to fix it.
    3. I constantly have to reset the control panel of the M-Audio because the sound disappears. Sometimes the reset doesn't work and it freezes the control panel. Force quit is unable to make it quit and I end up having to turn it off at the back and then turning it on again.
Has anybody else had these problems?
I have emailed M-Audio but they haven't replied after a week.

I'm using an M-Audio MobilePre USB interface and also have sleep issues. This only seems to affect me when using Logic though. I'll explain further.....
On clean boot everything works fine. If I put the computer to sleep for an hour or so, when I wake the machine, everything seems ok. iTunes, Quicktime, System Sounds (including the "Chirp" when hitting the volume control keys) all works normally. The problem is when I close Logic before sleep then launch upon wake. Once I launch Logic, I get no sound from whichever project is loaded into Logic. In addition, if I hit either of the volume keys, no "chirp". No system sounds at all. iTunes will sometimes render the audio through the speakers, however, the volume controls (both on keyboard and in System Prefs) have no effect on iTunes' output level. If I go into the Sounds System Pref and switch to the internal speakers, everything is fine except Logic, which still outputs no sound. The only way to remedy the situation is to reboot the computer. If I have the foresight to leave Logic running when I sleep the computer, so far the problem hasn't happened. Unfortunately, this isn't always possible.
I wish I'd read this forum before grabbing the M-Audio box. I may still be able to return it though. What's a good suggestion for at least a 2 in/out USB interface (roughly the same cost as the MobilePre USB)? Price is a major concern, unfortunately. Also, MIDI I/O would be helpful as well. I have an M-Audio 1x1 USB MIDI interface, but it'd be nice to have MIDI in the main I/O and open up a USB port.
BTW - I only have one Firewire400 port which is being used by my external drive, which holds all of my project files. I realize I can daisy chain FW devices, but would rather not put my I/O on the same bandwidth as my HDD. At some point I will be getting a FW800 drive, but it'll be a while.......

  • Logic Pro Froze in the middle of saving a project.

Logic Pro Froze in the middle of saving a project. It stayed that way for 30 minutes. When I forced quit, it did not save the project, and my last save was an hour previous (including project backup files). Is there a way to recover what I did, or has that hour of work been lost?

Accept it and forget, it is lost for ever.
But.........your new ideas will surpass anything you did before!, I'm sure!
    Have a nice day!

  • Data Recover From Formatted Drive? What is the best program to use to get back Logic Projects and any other file type?

I was in the process of reorganising my hard drives so I could RAID them however I managed to corrupt one drive and had to format it which meant I lost all my Logic Files and some other files. I managed to save a lot of files (mainly video files) before I had to format the drive but I need a Data Recovery service that will not alter anything on the hard drive and will put all the formatted files (regardless of the type) back for me so I can get the rest of the ones I need.
    Thanks in advance.

    What about folders and such?
No. FS doesn't reconstruct folders. However, Data Rescue does, depending on how you use it. About the only thing in Data Rescue a Quick Scan ever seems to show you are files that are already live.
So that leaves you with a Deep Scan, or a Deleted Files scan. The first pass of a Deep Scan will attempt to retrieve folders and files, along with their original names. The second pass only looks for file patterns. Like recognizing a Photoshop .psd file. It will recover it, but give it a nonsense name. A Deleted Files scan only results in nonsense names of recognized file types; no folders.
What were you using File Salvage on? A hard drive?
Yes, though you can use it on a flash drive, or any other mounted drive.
At the moment it is estimating 289 hours remaining on a 1TB drive. Can it not go faster?
No, both of the software mentioned are slower than molasses in January. When you delete anything in Windows, its file table entry simply tagged as deleted. So to unerase them, the tag is removed. That's why it works to quickly and easily (assuming you haven't already overwritten the data to be recovered).
In OS X though, the whole idea of the underlying UNIX structure is all about security. It's not supposed to be easy to retrieve deleted items. When you delete items, their file table entries are erased. So the only way to find deleted items is to scour the entire drive for BOF (Beginning Of File) markers that don't have a matching starting block to anything that is in the file table.
Another question, half the drive was empty. Will it fly over that empty space or will it sieve through it incase there was some files stored on it?
If you use the Expert mode is FS, you can choose to do that:

  • Recovering Logic Studio Serial After Reformat?

I just reformatted my macbook pro.  I did a clean wipe of the hard drive.  I went to reinstall logic studio and realized that I have lost the installing your software booklet that contains the serial number.  I have all the discs and other documentation, but not the one that I need.  I don't remember if I registered the software when I first installed it, but I have a feeling that I didn't.  I have looked at the information about getting a new serial number from apple (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1861), but I don't have the proof of purchase anymore either.  It seems like I might be out of luck.  Is there anyway to use some kind of software to recover the serial from before I reformatted the computer?  I know that you can see the serial in logic when you open it so maybe there is some way to recover the file that contains the serial?  I just reformatted yesterday and haven't installed much on the computer yet.  Any solutions that don't require expensive programs would be preferred because I don't have the money to spend on that right now (or on a new copy of logic if I can't recover the serial )

No, you can only recover it from a backup. Copy the file /Library/Application Support/ProApps/ProAppsSystemID back on the computer. This will only work, if the computer is the same. You can't use it to transfer a license to a new computer.

  • Logical goes down for some reason and it can't be recovered.(data guard)

This is not an issue, just wanted to know how this can be done.
Logical goes down and it can't be recovered. How can one recreate the logical standby?
Is this a fresh restore of primary? what are the steps to follow?
    Thanks in advance.

For Physical standby, since it's block to block identical with primary. You could use backup of primary to recover physical standby. There's usually no need to backup physical standby.
For logical standby, since you could have other schema hosted on it in addition to the one that protected by data guard. It's good idea to have separate backup from primary.
Otherwise, rebuild from primary is always an option.

I have seen the usual hit on this which is to create the Redo Dictionary on the Primary using
    execute dbms_logstdby.build;
which I did but the alter database command still keeps hanging on my Standby
    Any ideas,
    thanks
    Jim

    Hello;
Does your Standby alert log have any lines like this:
    RECOVER TO LOGICAL ...
If yes look for the message ( after this )
    Starting datafile conversion
and post any errors or warnings you have.
    Best Regards

  • SE3511 - recovering logical volumes

    Hi ,
I have a SE3511 array with one controller array and a JBOD both are fully populated with 400GB disks. There is one each logical drives(RAID5) configured on both controller array and JBOD. Each logical drives were divided into two logical volumes of equal size. SO I had 4 logical volumes total. After doing a physical move of the array to different location, I had some problems witht the array. When I checked the configuration, i could see all the logical volumes are disappeared, but still the logical drives are there. Unfortunately I didn't take a configuration backp of the styorage. But I know the size of the logical volumes.
Can any body help how to recover the lost logical volumes or create the logical volumes without losing data.
    Thanks
    Babu

    Found the following:-
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14239/manage_ls.htm#sthref1308
Oracle® Data Guard Concepts and Administration
    10g Release 2 (10.2)
    Part Number B14239-04
    Managing A Logical Standby Database -- 9.5.4
Indicates that the Logical Standby can recover through an OPEN RESETLOGS if its running in flashback database mode.
Not sure what the impact of this is on non-guarded components - could be that if it flashes the logical back too that it loses all the non-guarded components
