Logic is messing up imported audio

In Logic 8, when I try to import an audio (aif) file exported from Ableton Live, Logic slows down the audio file significantly. It also lowers its pitch.
The track from Ableton Live was at 160bpm, and even when I set Logic's project tempo to 160bpm, the audio file plays back at less than half that tempo. I feel like I'm overlooking something really obvious, but I'm having trouble finding the solution anywhere. How do I import the audio file without Logic messing things up?
Also, Quicktime or any other music player plays the exported audio back fine, at the proper pitch and tempo. It seems like the problem is only with Logic.

I think Jim is on the right track--sounds like sample-rate mismatch. Try setting Logic to automatically convert the rate. Or, of course, set your Logic project to the same rate as Live.
Does this work?

  • The audio file is not recognized by Logic. Can't import audio files?

    Hi,
The audio files are on my desktop. Logic 9.1.1 will not recognize them and gives me this message when I try to drag and drop OR Import Audio File OR use Audio Bin.
As far as I know, I am using wave files (extension .wav). So what could be the problem. Here's a picture of how the files look on my desktop.
The regular silver and blue iTunes icons look like this when I Get Info:
The black iTunes icons look like this when I Get Info:
Importantly, the black iTunes (only 2 out of the 18 audio files) are the ones that actually import. Does it have something to do with the fact that it shows under "More Info > Audio Channels 1" vs. the silver and blue iTunes .wav files (which do NOT have this)?
Furthermore, here is the process I used to get the audio files in the first place. On my PC, I exported audio files from my Ableton Live project onto a thumbdrive. I copied the audio files from my thumbdrive to my Mac. Maybe this had something to do with it.
Also, as you can see, under Sharing and Permissions > there is only "read and write" for all names, so it's not a permissions thing.
    Thanks.

    Thanks for your reply.
+Can you play them as Preview (select in Finder, hit spacebar)?+ No. The black iTunes icons play with no sound and the silver and blue iTunes icons do not even come up in Preview at all.
+Will iTunes play them?+ Only the black iTunes files (2 out of the 18). When I click on a silver and blue icon'd file, it will not even open in iTunes.
why on the desktop? it was just a temporary thing. I was not able to pull them into my Audio Bin. I tried what you suggested. I put the files in the Audio Files folder of my project. When I go to open them from within Logic by Import Audio File, they are visible but greyed out. I don't use the desktop except for testing stuff like you do.
+How was the thumb drive formatted? FAT32 or other DOS-format, or Mac OS Extended (HFS)?
+the extension is not where apps look to recognize an audio file format, it is the header data. Some audio programs can read RAW audio files, but more about that after your reply to this one.+ It is formatted MS-DOS (FAT 32).
(*I wrote all this stuff above while I was working and waiting for the PC to write to my thumbdrive again*******finally I got everything to show up.
I loaded the files again from the thumbdrive. This time they were all in the black iTunes format, and I put them directly in the Audio Files folder like you suggested. After some doing everything works fine. Weird.
    Thanks!

  • Importing audio tracks issue (Logic Pro 8.0.2 - Snow Leopard 10.6.0)

This is a strange one that i've only just noticed since installing Snow Leopard:
In Logic when looking for audio tracks via the media browser, I select a file and drag and drop it into a project. The file plays back in the project as expected, but...
A copy of the file is then placed in the location where i've just dragged the file from???
    For example:
I navigate to a track within an album in my iTunes folder (stored on an external drive) and drag the track into an open Logic project. Once imported there is a duplicate of the imported file placed within the album folder. I'm pretty sure this wasn't the behaviour before upgrading.
There are a few weird things happening with this:
If I import a .mp3 file, a .aif file is placed within the album.
If I import a .m4a file, a .ovw file is placed within the album.
Sometimes it shows the copy of the track in the browser and sometimes it doesn't. If I navigate to the album location in finder there is a copy of the file located within the album folder.
    Anyone else experiencing this?
    Bryan

Cheers Bee Bee, school boy error on my behalf!
I was chopping up a few tracks to put on the mrs phone as ringtones and hadn't actually saved the session which would explain why a copy would have been put in the original location seen as there was nowhere else for it to go.

  • Logic cant import audio!

    Hi,
I'm using logic 7.2.1 & I just installed it on a MacBook pro. Now, I'm unable to Import any audio files... no apple loops... nothing! When i navigate to my firewire drive (where my audio is) all of my audio files are not "highlighted" therefore they cant be choosen!... Does anyone know whats up with this?
    Thanks, Cuz

    Hi
I was reading a book called, "LOGIC PRO 7 power!" by Orren Merton, and on page 221 a section called "Adding files to the arrange window". It says: "By choosing "File >Import" you can import audio or midi files into logic." As it turns out, this works for MIDI files or "other" song files (garage band & others)...NOT audio. That would be done by choosing "Audio >Import Audio file..."! So was I missled by Orrens' book?
    Thanks, Cuz

  • Logic 8 Bugs/Crashing when importing audio

    Hi,
Been running Logic 8 for a few months - some good things but lots of niggly bugs which we're trying to iron out.
We're getting a problem with Logic crashing everytime we import an audio file - however when Logic reloads the file is in the project and plays fine. Anyone come across something similar?
Also, for some reason audio files are playing randomly in a Logic sequence - for example the backing vocals will play at the start of the track even though they are not placed anywhere near there.
Hoping someone can help, we've installed the latest updates and everything - currently running a HD 192 TDM system on 10.4.11.
    Thanks
    Jack

I have had similar bugs like this even on 7. I think it might be a DAE/Logic issue that has been carried into the next generation. Just the wrong playback of an audio file in respect of the arrangement placement is new. I am having it too when i am in cycle mode. Only randomly though.

  • Import audio from movie problem

Every time I import audio from a movie in Logic X, there is a glitch at the beginning of the audio. I just switched from 9 and never had this problem before. Anyone else experiencing this? I think it's a bug that needs to be fixed.

Its quite possible this problem is being caused by one of several audio file related issues in the current OS X 10.9.2  that apparently are fixed in 10.9.3
You can find out for yourself by installing the Public beta seed of 10.9.3 found here....

  • Logic can't handle long (audio)filenames!!

Importing audio file with long filename makes logic to rename it in shorter form. (for example 1234567879123456789.wav becomes something like 123456789#ABC.wav) I don't like that but I can live with it.
The problem is that when you make a copy of a project including these shortened files and try to open it, logic can't find those files, even if they are in projects audio folder. It tries to search the files with original long names instead of the shortened ones. Then you have to manually locate the missing files one by one...
This bug makes me crazy, since I have lots of fx-libraries with long filenames, and I need those daily.
I think logic 7 didn't have this problem. Has anyone else found this annoying?

The lack of support for long filenames at this point is lame and really inexcusable.
I just ran into this yesterday with import/export key commands. It let me export with a long filename, but then when I went to import, it wouldn't let me. Thankfully, I was able to figure out that it needed a shorter name - without any kind of error message or other hint I could have been stuck.
Why won't apple fix this, is it really that hard to get right??

  • Importing audio from FCP

Is there a way to import audio projects from FCP into logic keeping the automation that the video editor has made?
Is there a file format other than OMF that contains the automation. and can FCP export it and can logic read it?
Is there a 3rd party application that can convert?
Or do I have to go back to the bad old days of Pro Tools (or worse, Soundtrack "pro")? PT LE is limited for soundtrack production, isn't it?
Is there anyone doing serious audio post production on logic, and if so, how are the projects imported?

The problem with exporting to AIFF, is that you can't crossfade between your cuts, or normalize regions. Your just stuck with the FCP raw mix. This is OK if your cut is relatively simple and you've already crossfaded and blah, but if you've got all kinds of dynamics going on, and different types of recording, you're definitely going to want more control over the export.
The problem with OMF, is that it doesn't translate well into LP. This seems to be a regular thing coming up on threads, apparently it works better with other audio editors but not LP. I've found that despite specifying handles on my export, non appear thus making crossfading impossible, you just get the same glitches your trying to eliminate.
HOWEVER the great thing is that apple invented their own format XML, an apple interchangeable file format. If you import this to LP, you get REGIONS like in FCP that reference the original files on your HD, which means you can now CROSS FADE, and NORMALIZE.
That makes me happy. I like it.

  • Importing Audio Files From CD

    New to Logic Express 9
I tried this for the first time last night and had some trouble. A bass track imported...looked like a bass instrument but sounded like an overhead drum mic??? I just clicked "Import Audio Files" and went directly to the CD. These were wav files so I'm thinking it is a coversion issues. Checked the file with Itunes and it's definitely a bass track. What's the best way to accomplish this import?
    Thanks

It's becoming obvious that the program has become corrupted in some way. I have a session that I closed in good shape only to find the next time I opened it that all the sends were activated and even after turning all the sends off I'm still getting bleed from two or three tracks in a single track.
In this current session I tried muting the problem bass track and dragging it again from the audio bin into another track. This time it's got sax on it although visually the wav looks the same as the original bass track.
I guess I'll have to call Apple Care...jeeze!

  • Externally imported audio - synchronisation in FCE HD

Greetings all.  I have two G4 Powerbooks with FCE HD 3.0.  I record videos on a mini-DV camera and audio externally in Logic (musical performances) and import the audio from Logic and want to sync it up with the waveform from the camera audio.  Because making Quicktime Movies for utube is a long process I like to set one machine at this while continuing to work on the other.  However while on my main machine there is no noticeable synchronisation issue, on the second machine longer takes eg a couple of minutes start to be problematically out of sync by the end.
I normally record in Logic at 44.1 KHz and assuming this to be to do with FCE wanting a sample rate of 48K I just bounced down a couple of samples at 48 and tried those but playing back in the timeline at least there is still the sync problem, so I suppose it will still be there when I make the .mov file.
So is there something about the settings on the second machine that are different and are causing this problem please?  I have of course looked and not found anything that seems to apply.  How should I have things set so that I can get proper synchronisation?
    Many thanks
    Stephen

Ah thanks, hadn't looked in the Sequence.  There it says Aud Rate 48, Aud Format 32-bit floating point.  The camera's audio is 48K and 16 bit, the imported audio, with which it does not sync after a while, is now also 48 and 16.  The camera audio data rate is given as 6.9MB/sec and the imported as 187.5K/sec.  The camera's audio, for removal of doubt, is perfectly in sync with the video.
I looked in a FCE project made on the other Powerbook, with some long takes, and the settings are all the same except that the imported audio is still at 44K.
I might add that the convenience of using this other PB is not simply a time saving issue, its an old one I feel comfortable taking places and working on things when I'm away, whereas the main PB is plugged into all sorts of things and I'd rather keep it here.  Not least, that's why its still working perfectly 7 years later...

  • Imported Audio Not Sample Rate Converted?

I received some audio files for a project that were accidentally sent at 48k instead of the 44.1 I need.
Isn't Logic supposed to automatically do the sample rate conversion if you have the little settings box ticked for "convert sample rates for imported audio"?
I can't get it to work. I use the audio bin "add audio files", and import the 48k files. They get imported, but remain at 48k, unchanged, after import.
Is this another bug or is there some part of the process I'm missing?

  • Skipping imported Audio when Camcorder is LP/12 Bit - HELP!!

    Hi all,
I have searched this forum high and low and I have seen people alluding to the problem of skipping audio when importing from a camcorder which is on LP (i.e. 12 bit) mode.
Has anyone got a solution for this? I have several hours worth of material I need to import - are we seriously suggesting that one cannot doing this with IMovie if the camcorder which is in LP mode??? Surely this can't be right!
When I select 'filter audio' the imported audio skips (i.e. small parts of missing audio) and when I deselect this option the gaps are replaced with a high pitch beeping.
    Thanks for any help!
    Richard

    Hi Richard:
    Welcome to discussions!
Sorry to say it is truth-you really do need to use 16-bit audio.
iMovie: Use 16-bit audio for best results
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61636
One workaround is to record it back to another camera and set it for 16-bit.
The most logical way is to use iMovie to save the audio as a separate file and then use iTunes to convert it to 16-bit/48KHz.

  • Logic X FCPX XML import

Has anyone had any luck using the new Logic X's (10.0.1) Final Cut Pro XML? I'm using FCPX 10.0.9.
I expected volume/pan automation data (and hopefully roles) to be transferred during the import, they're not. And Logic X makes a new track for every single clip.
Has anybody gotten this feature to work as advertised?

I dont use FCP7, infact i dont know to use.
Is there a way to drang all the audio tracks exported from logic which i have imported to my event in FCPX, (can i drag all of the tracks to the timeline as a connected clip  - all tracks below each other).. ?????
If i select all the audio tracks in the event and hit Q, only the first track is connected , the rest of the tracks are appended to the first track. I want all of them below each other. Is this possible to have all the tracks as connected clips at once ??
Coz I have 60 audio tracks and i really dont want to drag each of them to the time line.
    Thank you.

  • Import Audio Channels from another Song? How to??

    Hello,
I recorded a couple of songs with a real drumset. I mixed the first song and created a lot of channel->bus->aux->bus routing for the drumset with compressors, eqs, space designers etc. So all my drums running thru the busses, fx, etc, to one final bus. I used 12 audio tracks, 11 busses and 5 auxes to do that. The drumsound is quite nice, and because we recorded all songs with the same drumset and miking, I want to have that routing in all the other songs (arranges) too, where we have already recorded all the different guitars and stuff.
    Here is my problem:
How to copy that set of audio-tracks, busses and auxes to the other songs???
Saving all channels as channel strips and reload them in the other songs is a lot of work, because it doesent remember the levels and pannings, and in most of the other songs I have not all the needed auxes and busses in the audio-environment. sometimes, they are already used by other instruments (guitars, etc...)
I tried to simply copy and paste the desired channels (audio objects) but than they have not the right plugins and settings: they keep their "old" settings from that song I want to copy the drums-channels into.
I tried to delete all these objects before (Audio Track 12 to 24, busses 1 to 8 and 17 to 19, auxes 1 to 5) in the destination-song, but they still have the "old" settings after beeing copied.
    Logic manual: Aha! Import environment!!
I copied all the desired drums-channels to a new layer, saved that song.
Opened the destination song, options->import environment->layer...
Uups: Still the wrong settings: I dont want DeEssers on my toms!!!
I tried to import environment->merge, but then i got really big chaos. Lots of useless channels, still the wrong settings...
    I clicked undo:
Uuuuups!!! All my channels are gone, the whole arrangement is set to "No Output" objects... :-((
Tried again with import envirmonment->update: less chaos, but still the wrong settings. DeEssers on Toms. Grrrr!
About two hours passed now without success just to do that simple thing: How can i copy my audio-channels to the other songs???
    any help is greatly appreciated!
    thanx!

Thanx to the northpole for reply!
I think the folders only contains audio/midi regions but no information about the assigned environment objects like busses, auxes, etc...
I dont want to copy the audio regions, just the mixer setup with the specific channels and busses.
    regards!
