Logic is now confused

After updating to 10.5.3 from 10.4.11 . Logic is running badly.
I can work on a song for 20 mins until the spl disappears and the cursor looks strange and no longer navigates the program . Logic was also crashing when trying to open preferences. or sometimes just an empty preference box opens. I have tried trashing prefs and keeping key commands but to no avail.
In the matrix editor when clicking on a note the little yellow "move region events " box has returned which I haven't seen for a few logic versions ( this is getting weird) . So if anyone can offer some advice about fixing this I would appreciate it.

Grane is correct.
" my usual computer folk who told me that it was either the logic-board (£400-ish) or the mother-board (£800-ish,"
Those shouldn't be your regular guys. They are either completely incompetent or massive rip off artists!
Don't go back there.
"mother-board = logic-board"
That is correct. Mother board is a PC term. I've had PC techs correct me when I called a mother board a logic board.
Have you tried disconnecting the battery?
First try an SMC reset:
Reset SMC
http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295
Then you'd try an SMC reset by unplugging the battery. The bottom will have to come off to do that. (Check iFixIt if you're unsure.) Unplug the battery and charger hold the power button down for 1 minute. Wait for 5 minutes. Replug everything and try a start up.
No joy? Try the same procedure but don't reconnect the battery.
No joy? Take it to the Apple store or use a known good battery (They'd have one. )

  • MMD - replaced logic board & now have led flashing 5 times

    I have a mmd model M878 LLA and replaced a logic board KD237 045 VNFAA , 630t3744/630-4267 with a KD244 024 NNNVA, 630t3744/630=4372.
Original symptoms were 4 beeps and 4 flashes then a high speed fan, so I replaced the logic board - Now I get only 5 flashes on the power button and a high speed fan.
What do I do next? Do I go ahead and order a replacement processor? Do I want to put more money into this machine or just part it out?

  • My iMac got a new logic board, now my HP printer doesn't work

I have had my Intel iMac 24" using OS 10.7.5 in the shop a lot lately. One of the things they replaced was the logic board. Now my iMac seems to be working great, but my HP printer stopped working. It's and older printer, Officejet All-in-One. I tried removing the driver and software to reinstall but it says the disc will not work because the iMac is no longer a PowerPC. That's how old the printer is. Is this a techology thing, is the printer just to old, or is there something I can do to fix this. Should it at least recognize that a printer is connected. The printer is not recognized at all, that is, it says no printer is connected and even when I try to add a new printer, it does not show up in the list. So there is no way of trying to add it back, to the iMac, there is no printer connected as far as it's concerned.

  • Unplugged battery from logic board now it won't recognise there's a battery plugged in

So over the last week I've been having issues with my power cable, often it wouldn't work, sometimes it would but it wouldn't hold for long. After a week or so it started flashing green but sort of more dull green. No orange. After some extensive research I found a temporary fix was to unplug the battery from the board plug it back in and voila. Supposedly. So when that didn't work, and after spotting the tiny teeth marks right beneath the MagSafe bit from a very naughty kitten, I bit the bullet and paid the £60 (expensive when you're a jobless student, hey, times are tough) for a replacement charger, and the new cable worked a charm. BUT, now my MacBook says it's got no battery available and I'm thinking maybe I've been a bit of an idiot unplugging it. I'm on an early 2011 MBP running a version of snow leopard. I've done all the smc resets etc and the stuff for kernals? (I'm not mac proficient yet) and now I'm thinking maybe I need a new battery but I can't afford one or the diagnostic + replacement charges at the Genius Bar. So I pose this dilemma to you, the community, in the hopes that someone can help me. I can provide any extra info necessary so don't hesitate to ask. Many thanks for responses.
A confused, lost and terrified man.

Try the SMC again.  Make certain that you use the correct instructions.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964
If no success, make an appointment at an Apple store genius bar.  The diagnosis will be FREE.  Any repairs will not be free but you will know exactly what you are dealing with.
Since you MBP does not even recognize the battery suggests that there is a connection break.  I'm wondering if damage was done when you disconnected and then reconnected the battery (to the battery connection).
    Ciao.

  • Got new logic board, now  software is making me go through authorization?

i just got a new logic board installed on my 2007 MacBook Pro. now any time i open any of my software it makes me go through the authorization process (asking for serial #) - its as though with the new logic board the software actually thinks that its been installed on a whole different computer. just wondering if this is normal or if there is any way to get around it. I do audio production on my mac so I have literally hundreds of different plugins installed many of which have complex product authorization schemes. Thanks in advance for the help.

+*its as though with the new logic board the software actually thinks that its been installed on a whole different computer*+
That's exactly what's happening. Most modern authorization/activation routines look at the hardware giving specific values to various components. When something like the logic board is replaced, the application pretty much sees that as a different machine.
I believe Apple does have the ability to set the serial number in a new logic board... although it has to be done by Apple. This alone may not bypass the need to reactive some of your applications. It depends on the specific activation scheme the application is using. You're probably best off just re-activating your applications. I've never had problems getting software re-activated when dealing with the software vendors due to this situation. Fortunately, OS X itself doesn't require activation. As something of a techy... I've replaced motherboards on desktop systems regularly and even Microsoft has never given me a problem with reactivating Windows.
It might be a pain... but hopefully you'll just have to go through it once.

  • Mac game loaded with logic express, now its asking me for license key

My macbook came loaded with logic express 3 years ago, been working completely fine. Until today, where upon opening it asks me for the registration key which, if I don't, will not allow me to use the program. I don't have a registration key because I didn't purchase the software separately, and why it is asking for it now (after 3 years of usage) is beyond me.
    Thoughts?

You should have the key with your documentation & install disk. However, if you haven't got it with your MB, call apple support. They are the only ones who can help you.

  • I replaced the logic board- now nothing...

This is really a continuation of this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2542941&tstart=0
It is now the end of September and I have been unable to use my Power Mac since early August/Late July.
to recap: I replaced my logic board, but then the machine wouldn't turn on. The power button wouldn't stay illuminated and the screen remained blank but I could hear the whirring of fans and maybe drives.
I brought the tower to the Genius bar where they opened it up and promptly told me my CPU was fried.
Fortunately it was still under warrantee And OWC said send it on back and we'll see what we can do.
Turns out the Newer Technologies 2.0 ghz CPU has been discontinued. The folks at OWC were trying to find out if they could get it rebuilt or just what they could offer me to honor the warrntee on a dicontinued item.
So we agreed to a dual 1.6 CPU that I received in the mail Tuesday and installed last night.
Unfortunately the same thing happened. I hear it try to start but there's no chime and the on/off button only remains illuminated as long as I hold it in.
Could it be a bad logic board?
because the CPU is an aftermarket product, it comes with firmware to be installed. When I replaced the logic board, did it maybe not recognize the CPU? (I'm grabbing at straws here.)
I will probably bring it in to the Genius bar again and have them look at it, but I just thought I would try here first in case anyone might recognize the symptoms.
    thanks.

the heatsink came out first, and then the card with the processor.
The processor chip and card are one assembly called a daughter card.
I just don't know how to go about re-installing it. Is there a temporary fix short of solder?
    It's not solder.
The OEM CPU and heat sink have thermal tape that is hard to break when cold.
When hot, the heat sink is easily removed.
Simply reinstall the CPU daughter card, put a bit of thermal compound on the old tape, and fasten the heat sink.
This will work well enough to run the firmware patch.
For more thorough instruction, I wrote it up here:

I couldn't locate a voltmeter that would work at this level.
Any electronics store will have a volt ohm meter; Radioshack, Fry's, etc.
    They are inexpensive.

  • How to? - Logic can now import multichannel interleaved audio files and convert them to individual mono files

This was listed as a new feature in the 10.1 Logic Pro X update but how do you do it? I don't see it in any documentation.

  • Recorded MPEG-2.  Now confused/need help importing DV or MPEG-4?  Help!

HI there from Buffalo NY and a year-old mac user
I'm using ... a JVC Hard disk camcorder (GZ-MG20U) which records in MPEG-2 format. iMovie HD 5.0.2 won't accept these files when I try to import, so I'm using the software that came with the camera (Capty MPEG Edit EX for Everio 1.3.0) to import. Capty allows me to create files in the following formats: MPEG System Stream, MPEG Elementary Stream, DV Stream and Quicktime stream. It further divides Quicktime into MPEG-4, 3G or Quicktime Movie.
I figured I should import in DV because I can use that with iMovie (and then eventually with iDVD, which, reading these boards I've learned will simply turn my files back to MPEG-2s). Unfortunately, the files are way too large for my computer... I had about 20 gigs free when I started, and now, maybe 90 minutes into importing, I'm down to 1/2 a gig.
My goal is essentially just putting home videos on the DVD. Of course, I'm looking for quality to be brilliant, but realize I'll have to make sacrifices...
    I guess my question(s) is/are:
Is it my best option to import these files as MPEG-4's, edit them in iMovie, output to iDVD and so on...? How will my picture quality be? I guess I'm asking because I don't really understand where all of the conversions are happening, and I'm wondering if my final DVD will be a poorer quality picture that when I still have the footage on my hard disk camcorder and hook it up to my TV's A/V jacks and watch it that way.
    Thoughts?
    CHRIS

    Hi Cjbee,
    welcome to this board...
iMovie is a video edit app meant to work with firewire connected miniDV camcorders
so, you miss the convenience of "plug'n work" with you camera (iM imports directly from tape, hte fw protocol allows remote control of any camera, etc)
    b) any mpeg is a playback-only format; it looks pretty well in ... ehm, playback, but the edit options are very, very basic (tech bubble: you can just edit from/to next G.O.P. … tech speak off) AND is not supported by iM... => needs conversion => loss of pic quality
that's no lack of your Mac, but mpegs don't store every frame of a video (30 frames per second), so, a computer has to "estimate" content… so, me personally don't understand the "idea" of any dvd-corder.....?
iM's native format is dv; avoid lossy inbetween steps, if your software allows direct conversion, choose that; iM has an import command or you drag'n drop the large .dv files into iM's window/timeline/clip pane.
you DON'T safe disk space by using other formats! in case you go mpeg2=>mp4 (which is smaller), you a) loose quality b) iM will convert it anyhow (and needs additional temp disk space for conversion too…)
    next hurdle to go:
your Mac needs at last 15 - 20 GB FREE disk space for doing videoDVDs...//iDVD will start to behave odd with not enough space for lots of temp files..../any app will freeze your Mac, if you go under some free disk space...
    summary:
    * don't buy/use dvd corders
    * mpegs needs conversion into dv
    * dv and dvd creation needs LOTS of disk space
    * buy an ext., firewire connected harddisk for storage any large folders/files (iTunes, iPhoto, iMovie), format it correctly before usage.......

  • Data Modeler Logical Data Type confusion!

    I don't get it.
When defining a logical model, I want to assign data types to the attributes in my model.
I understand a logical datatype like money, and that a logical datatype might be implemented differently in different databases. The concept makes perfect sense to me.
I pick a datatype from the Logical Types.
It ignores the logical datatype that I picked and puts in another datatype instead. I'm guessing that it's a physical mapping. I would understand the logical-to-relational mapper doing that , but I don't understand it happening at this point in the model life cycle.
Let's say I pick Money. It puts Double into the logical datatype, not money.
If I pick Date or DateTime, it puts Date into the logical datatype, so what is the point of giving me two types to pick from?
    Seems kind of wonky.

    David,
We will publish soon a document on how the data types work.
If you go to tools, Types administration you will see that a logical type is mapped to a native type and a native type is mapped to a logical type.
The logical type MONEY is mapped to DOUBLE for Oracle.
Types and domain files can be customised.
One could argue that the logical name MONEY should show up and not the native name. Showing the native name has the benifit that you see what the logical type is mapped to. Both approaches could have their supporters, no?
    Kind regards,
    René De Vleeschauwer

or is it still full of bugs etc. i put it on my machine a few months ago but had to revert back to snow lepoard because there were too many issues. are they sorted yet?

    Bluebeard
I have an iMac (mid 2011 with Intel chip) with Lion OS X 10.7.2 and just bought Logic Studio about 3 weeks ago (the box version, not app) and have had no problems with it as of yet.  I'm still making my way through the Explore book and have not yet downloaded 9.1.6 b/c I'm waiting to see if whatever little problems people have been talking about on this list are resolved, or if it's just a quirk with their system before I upload it.

  • New Logic Board - now audio problem?

    Hi,
My macbook went in for repair the other day, they said it had a faulty logicboard so have inserted a new one. Now my sound seems to be very tinny and not very loud. This is a computer-wide thing so it's the same with itunes, on the net etc.
Is there anything I can do to try and get the audio back to normal or should I get in touch with the guys that repaired it again?

Yeah that's what I thought. I'll get back in touch with them at the start of next week. At least the machine is staying on now!
