Logic mastering in 5.1

Does logic (7.1) have any plug ins that are useful for mastering in 5.1? and if not are there any that are available from other companies? Does the Waves 360 bundle work on logic? as I'm sure its only for TDM on Pro tools?
any help is much appreciated!

Nope,
you have to fo for Logic Pro mate!

  • How to mix reason through logic, then stereo back to reason mastering?

Is it possible to mix a track from reason through logics mixer (yes I know how to do this ok) but then send the master from logic back to reason so that I can master it in reasons mastering kit - I really prefer their mastering setup for some types of music the sound is just what I want (not for others) especially dance - but I can't find a way to do this? Do I have to print the logic mix into a sample and load it into a new reasons project? I'd rather hear the mix with mastering applied as well if possible.

Yeah i feel you, the sound is very characteristic and well-suited for electronic productions, I agree. Although technically, it doesn't compare to what you can achieve with Waves or even standard Logic mastering plugins, the sound can be very nice.
At the same time, Reason wouldn't be Reason anymore if it had audio input support That's what Logic is for

  • Confused with Logic level meter

Hi guys, could anyone help me with some piece of advice?I have a problem with track levels, my mixes are usually quiet, but my aim is to get them to the yet fatiguing but still standard very loud level. Also when mixing I can hear that the arrangement is groovy and punchy, but when I get it through Ozone or Logic mastering plug-ins it turns into a komplete mess without any definition, the waveform of the track is brushed heavily . One person said to get a loud nice master I need to watch the Logic Output fader meter for headroom about 6 or 3 dbs before zero and RMS about -9 db, the thing is I'm konfused now with the Level meter as RMS showing displays red klips , but the signal is actually lower, and I can see it, for ex. when klipping the signal is about - 15 dbs RMS, could anyone explain me the real way to get loud tracks, and what approximate settings should I stick to, as it starts getting on my nerves already cause I start to think I just can't do music..

First, try to separate the concepts of mixing and mastering. They're two entirely different processes. I'd suggest you first concentrated on getting your mix 'right' for you, and don't worry about the relative loudness until you've completed this first mixing stage. I wrote a brief blog post about this here which might help a little.
In general terms, you don't need to worry about occasional high levels on your individual tracks - only on mix bus on your stereo output, where a good peak level might be around -8 dbFS. That's the only place where you can't 'go into the red.'
Once you have your mix as good as you can get it, *regardless of volume,* then open that bounced file in a new Logic session. That's where you can experiment with Ozone, Adaptive Limiter, Multiband compression and other tools you can try.
You might want to do some further reading about mastering. Here are a few articles/forums which may help get you going:

  • Copying Presets and Dual Screens

    Hi there,
I am running a small home studio and have just hooked up another monitor to my imac.
First question, how do I put the mixer in a separate window on the second screen. I want it so I can have the arrange page on the main screen and then the mixer on the other as they're the main ones I use.
Secondly, I am recording a 6 track EP for my band, I have set up all the tracks ready for the first song but when I come to mix and master them at the end how can I apply all the same EQ settings, effects, levels and such to every song if they are seperate logic files?
I look forward to your responses, thank you

    Hi
Start here. Go ahead and mix then bounce your songs (to 24 bit aif). Load a Logic Mastering Template. Drag your tracks in serially (in a row) or parallel (side by side, after setting up enough tracks - 6 in your case).
I often do the parallel method so I can quickly mute/unmute for fast comparisons of overall level and energy.
Bounce to 16 bit with dithering to burn disks with the files. (I use Bias Peak for assembling the disk image.)
There are many ways to skin this cat. Many.
Can't help you with dual monitors.
    Cheers

  • Sound Mixer : how to mix Sounds ??

    Hi,
Currently I'm working on a project in which i have to mix two sounds which are playing at same time in my custom flash player, I have to record them and at the end have to save that file as a new sound (.mp3) file.
If anyone have any idea about that, Please share with me.

  • What The Deal With This Issue!

Ive recorded in Protools and currently using Logic 8 and my results are the same. My mixes are pretty good. But my issue is, my final song file is pretty small according to level meters.
I have friends using fruity loops and nuendo and their mixes are sup par at best but their final file is way greater than mine when comparing them meter wise. A few of my friends bounce straight out of their DAW with no further processing and the song is way greater than mine as far as volume.
Ive even tried to use some of Logics mastering features but cant seem to achieve greater volume. Its like my final mix is being smothered or something. In the bounce dialog box, normalize is unchecked! This has been the same for me when using Protools and now Logic.
A few of my friends dont have clue when it comes to mixing and others just do a quick bounce down with NO MIXING for demo purposes but yet when they bounce the song down, the song file is nice and up to zero when mine sounds better but flirting around -7dbs. I dont get this!

mine sounds better but flirting around -7dbs
    That's the point.......
Two friend of mine produce dance music and remixes and they usually mix and master at -12dB (with Duende and TC Electronic hardware...).
I've used Nuendo and Cubase too but I dislike their sound.
I think that the pushing part must be reserved to the mastering step so I'd be not so worry about the -7dB.
    Just my 2 cents.
    cheers

  • LP8 Vs Live 6

Okay it's good to have the 2, okay we can rewire, do you/we/i really want to rewire, who out there re-wires??, maybe (yeah surely) not clear on where and when to use it for advantages, (i.e-rewiring)
I bought Live 6 recently having had LogicExpress7,
    now i/we can afford LP8 + Live 6 = same price as LP7, so that's heartning,
but can someone out there clerly define for me/us what LP8 can do that Live 6 can't and visa versa ?
So far i'm finding Live 6 can be excitingly more flexible than logic and although i was composing everything with logic, Live 6 seems to be more quicker for initialising my idea , one final question, is Live 6 good for post production like logic, mastering (depends the plugins i guess too )
so in brief , i think I answered my own question, get the 2 !!!
thanks in advance from countryboy in the stixx of france

    Got his from createdigitalmusic.com
sort of answers my enigmas . . .
"The sincerest form of flattery: I’ve heard claims that Logic 8 is inspired by Ableton Live, but I don’t see that. Live’s interface is very different aesthetically and functionally, and its centerpiece is the clip and the many things you can do with them. There’s nothing in Logic quite like the non-linear, clip-based Session view and its on-the-fly arrangement, and that makes sense: Live isn’t the right tool for everything, and Logic fits in as a different piece of the puzzle."
    get the 2

  • Basic Mastering in Logic 9 - Need Help!

I am brand new to Logic Pro (and DAW's in general - no other pro audio background). I have completed a musical recording, mixed it to my satisfaction, but I want to master it to get it to sound more loud and full. I have searched the web for help in how to do this, and while I have found some information, I'm a little stuck in terms of how to bounce my tracks into a single (or double) track that can then be mastered and tweaked. I want to convert my song into a format such as is seen in this YouTube video so that I can apply these mastering strategies: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ch9n0uD8gg
Can someone point me to a step by steb resource? I'm stuck, thanks!

  • Mastering templates logic 9 how to use, how to do mastering

I somehow got my Logic Pro 9 in a state where there were inserts in masters channel slider and you could try preset masterings. I cannot find that now. I found templates to start with e.g. stereo mastering but have no idea how i get my arrangement there. Or should I have started with this template and do all the stuff with those two channels "waiting" to be used and if, how?

You don't typically master an arrangement - you master the final stereo mix of your song. Mix your song and then bounce it down to a stereo WAV first, then import that into the stereo mastering template.
(Note that standard practice is to never master a song that you recorded and/or mixed yourself, especially if it is destined for release to the general public).

  • Mastering plug-in or upgrade to Logic Studio?

I'm currently trying out the oZone demo & like several of it's features-although some things about it are quirky. I'm wondering if I should spring for it-or something similar-or upgrade to full blown Logic. Anyone have experience with oZone or any other mastering software? Any idea how this compares to the expanded features in Logic Studio?
I should mention, I especially like the way inserting the plug on the master bus "beefs up" the entire mix-the full spectrum seem more intelligible (if that term applies to instrumental music).
    Thanks in advance.
    -d

I currently just made the decision and got ozone versus Studio pro.
I'll let you know but preliminary signs work in Ozone's favor.
The presets may be a little heavy handed, but tweaking them is easy and my first client was very happy that he didn't have to spend big $$$ on real mastering on a demo album.
The app runs without a glich when used on a two track mix, with my somewhat underpowered setup.
P.S. Sweetwater is offering a very substantial discounted academic edition for holders of a student or teacher ID for $125.

Very many thanks Niel. My problem solved in less than five minutes. I've never had to use that command before. I found the folder and copied it - but I'm still no clearer as to where it was!
    Thanks again

  • Fully understand the mastering tools in logic ANY DVD'S

Hi there, i am always trying to learn more about logic pro. Does anyone know of any great dvd's made regarding using all of the mastering tools in logic?
I do understand them in some way but would like to learn more towards an advanced level. Any info such as links, videos would be helpfull towards my seeking
hope u guys can help, thanks a million.

hi, just don't let your master bus overload.
everthing else, these days, is fair game.
you can probably let you master bus overload, on
second thought, based on the "hit" records currently
    prevailing.
    I agree.
Just distort the crap out of your peaks, you'll be right up there with the big boys.
Take the Limiting plugin of your choice, and set the threshold to -50dB,and then the release to 5mS. That is a sure-fire way to get it heard on the Radio. If the meters aren't completely going nuts, you are not applying enough limiting.

  • Default mastering file Logic Pro 9

I have Logic Pro 9 and Logic X installed.  Most of my current work is done on Logic 9 as I am still learning X. I set up a default mastering file so that when I master a song, I start the default file and drag the PCM version of the file into the mastering file. All the inserts I need are pre-configured, ie; multimeter, EQ, multipressor etc. Every once in a while when I want to master a song, I click on the default mastering file I created, and it launches Logic X. Is there any way to prevent this from happening. Once this happens, I have to delete the mastering file I created and re-create it using Logic Pro 9. Logic X will always start as the default unless I do this. Anyone have similar problem and work around?

Wouldn't you agree however, that using a template.. rather than a project,  is a much simplier and more beneficial  route for the future, to take for such things?
It might be, but the OP seems to like to simply double click on the Mastering Project file. Equally simple, especially if it is locked, to prevent accidental overwriting.
2x click the file, (Logic opens, if it isn't already), File Save As, start work
Each to their own I guess

  • How can I reset Logic Pro 9 in my iMac 'cos i eraser some presets effects in  mastering list? I need to use again.

How can I reset Logic Pro 9 in my iMac 'cos i eraser some presets effects in  mastering list? I need to use again.

You can't, I think. But you can open an old project where it was used, or if you know somebody else with logic, you can ask a copy of the presets and then manually drop them where they belong. What is missing exactly and how did you erase the presets?
    Have a nice day!

  • Calling all Logic environment masters can U help?

Hi are there any Logic environment masters out there if so I pose this to you I am using an E90ES Yamaha synth as my mother keys and I want to make it play a split layer meaning bass in the lower part of the keyboard and piano on the upper part. I then assign a midi channel to each split Zone. No problem there as far as the E90ES is concerned.
When I select 2 midi trks in Logic and go to record it uses the selected channel and records the whole thing as apposed to 2 separate recordings one the bass an the other the piano. I didn't want to have to mess with the environment in order to achieve this I thought it was a quick straight from the arrange page.
Can you help me please on this thanx ahead of time

    Hi Teebow,
You need to set up a simple pair of transformers, in your audio Layer.
One transformer will feed MIDI channel 1, and one, MIDI channel 2, in your arrange page, for recording.
First, create a simple Environment Object, and call it whatever you like (key splitter is good). This is so you can send one midi stream ot both Transformers.
Cable this to the following two Transformers:
The first Transformer will FILTER all notes BELOW your set parameter, ie whatever note you decide. This is the TOP of the keyboard split. Hook this up to your first Audio Instrument channel. this would be the melody instrument.
The second transformer will FILTER all notes ABOVE your set parameter, ie whatever note you decide. this is the BOTTOM of the keyboard split.Hook this up to your second Audio Instrument channel. This would be the Bass instrument.
In the Arrange Page, create your two instruments, and then select the TRANSFORMERS as the Instruments to be active. In other words, you'll see in the Arrange page "Transformer #1, Transformer #2" instead of the actual instruments. This is so you can record through them, and then the VIs just playback the correct notes.
    Cheers
