Logic Overloading when other Apps in use?

I finally got Logic & Leopard to talk after my first attempt months ago failed. What I'm finding is that if I'm listening to a mix (with Logic hidden so I don't "see" what I'm listening to) and, say, bring up Mail or Safari, Logic suddenly stops with the CA Overload error. I've seen there are a million threads with overload issues but what could be causing Logic to hate the other programs and seize up?
Also when I was loading my Apple Loops back in (post Leopard install) I got an unexpectedly quit message - which was a first!
My Buffer is set to 1024MB (for mixing) and 256MB for recording.

Maybe just running other software while Logic is playing back. Logic does not hate anyone. It is software code.

To rule out the app itself, try downloading another free radio app (CBC Canada, iFreeRadio, for example) and see if they behave the same way.
Background radio streaming should work fine - one of the types of apps that can truly run in background.

IOS worse performance when other apps in background OS

I have seen this asked before. I notice my application is not quite as smooth when other apps are alive in the background of iOS.
I am guessing it's simply running low on ram and there is nothing i can do about it? I am rendering in GPU
if i close some or all, it runs fine.

I think the problem is this: when doing parallel DML, Oracle uses direct path reads to read the data. To make sure the data being read is consistent though it needs to checkpoint blocks it is going to read. CR enqueue seems to be used to synchronize CKPT with PX slaves reading the data. It's going like this: PX slave requests CKPT to checkpoint a range of blocks it's about to read (and possibly enqueues on CR in order to be able to do so,) CKPT in turn orders DBWR to write all dirty blocks in the requested range, waits for this write to complete and signals PX slave that the blocks are consistent and can be read. Repeat as necessary. Now, with really large buffer cache and good portion of it dirty due to recent DML on source tables, busy CPUs and relatively slow writes this checkpointing might build up into a major performance inhibitor when these recently touched tables are being read in direct path mode: you have 8 cores and 8 parallel slaves, so CKPT, DBWR and pretty much all other background processes are competing with them for CPU time and I/O bandwidth (they all have the same priority, so your PX slaves can easily evict CKPT or DBWR from CPU only to immediately go back to sleep on an enqueue held by a process it just preempted.)
Things to try here:
1. do a checkpoint before running the insert and see if this makes any difference;
2. lower the degree of parallelism to 5-6;
3. If you have more than one DBWR configured - configure db_writer_processes back to 1.

Garageband is not picking sound from builtin mic (rMBP). I recorded some tracks, now it is not working. All other apps can use the mic. Monitoring is switched ON at GB, it picks sound only some other app, eg. Skype, is used to access the mic.

All other apps can use the mic. Dictation, Skype etc. can use the mic!

I have foud the solution - rather stupid. The system setting for audio input was at 70%, increasing it to 100% solves the problem!

No, it´s not a Lion issue, it is a issue with ical. Google has stopped the hability to erase appointments from ical in order to correct a bug. Meanwhile I´m looking for alternatives to bypass this with another software. Do you have any idea?

Music stops when launching apps

Brand new iPod Touch 64GB iOS 4.1. When playing music and then launching an application (most of the time, Google mobile app), the music shuts off. Doesn't happen every time.

If you are playing music using the native iPod app then it will continue to play when other app is used. However, I do not know if the other app also play music what would happen. If your music is coming from an app like Pandora it will stop when another app is used. This is because the presently multitasking is limited to a few Ipod) native apps. The Nov 2010 iOS 4.2 update will add multitasking for third-part apps like Pandora.

Will other apps (like Skype) be able to use the effects?

iChat and Photobooth use these funny effects. Are they somehow made with CoreAnimation, so that other apps can use the same effects?

It's done using Quartz Composer so if the apps were written to include these effects then it should work perfectly fine. But it would, of course, only work on mac.

Had to erase and re-install. No longer can find Garageband and other apps. Where can I re-doanload these?

I have had this mac for years. It's one of the very first Macbook Pro models with Intel processor.
It originally came with OS X, and I have the install disk here. I upgraded to Snow Leopard when it came out.
Recently my disk failed and I had to Erase it and do a complete re-install. I assumed Garageband, and iMovie and a few other apps I used semi-regularly would be in the Optional Installs. I started from scratch, installed OS X and then installed Snow Leopard on top of it, installing the "Optional Installs" each time.
No copy of Garageband and these other useful apps appeared.
I can not download Garageband from the Apple site because each time I do it claims I need to have Garageband already installed. But since my complete reinstall did not install those, I'm stuck without these apps I once had.
How can I get these re-installed properly like they once were?
I just want my Macbook Pro back to where it was earlier this week before the disk failed.

Cannot connect to Itunes, status bar goes about half way and stops. I have tried all the fixes other people have used, no joy. Running Vista with the most recent Itunes installed. Disabled fire wall and anti virus software. Once again, I have tried it all

Itunes won't connect, status bar goes about half way and stops, then times out. I have tried all fixes posted, you name it, I have done it. Running Vista and current version of Itunes. Can connect to Internet with any other app. Using Firefox, their latest version if that matters.
I have seen this is an on going problem throughout the Itunes community. All I can say is 'Bad Form Apple, Bad form.'

One more odd thing. The itunes diagnostics believes my windows firewall is on which is it not (believe me I've checked/double checked etc) AND believes itunes is not enable in windows firewall which it is, if ever I turned WF on. How can itunes get this wrong? I mean, if itunes believes its being blocked, maybe that's why I'm being blocked...has anyone heard of this?

I had the same issue. I just went to the Apple Store today to talk to someone about it. They had me delete the account and then add it back in. It's been working fine ever since!

I am getting a 'MIDI timeout' error message when I open garageband. I am not using any other apps so why is this happening. Restarting does not solve the issue.

Loudness of music varying by itself when using iPod in iPad with other app

The loudness of music started varying up and down itself when listening to music using iPod and using other app simultaneously in iPad. Does anyone have got the same problem? Is it a hardware or software problem? How to fix it? Many many thanks

I agree, this is a huge let down. I didn't realize I was uploading low quality photos and people commented that my quality has gone down... so much for using this as a business expense for photography. I know people argue (just upload it from your pc) Well, this is a "retina display" High res, yadda yadda... so why isn't the app thats designed specifically for it?
Anyways, seems like an easy fix...

Because that would mean that I would have to delete my apps after everytime I just them from that bar and that would be very annoying and just stupid. Since you have already isolated it down to your home network, if following Steve's instructions do not fix your issue, contact your Internet Service Provider or Router Manufacturer and make sure your network is set up according to this information: iOS and OS X: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points

I got the same problem. The percentage of getting this problem is around 10% of all my dial/receive calls.
The problem usually appears when I receive calls. The phone app will freeze, and I cannot dial or receive calls even I closed the phone app, however, most other apps work properly.
Once this problem happens, I will not be able to turn off the phone by holding sleep button, the only way I can get rid of it is holding sleep and home button at the same time to reset the iphone.
