Logic preferences not accesable/changeable anymore

I need help with Logic Studio, I guess it was after a software update that I downloaded and installed, Logic didn't work as it used to. I cant access the preferences or settings through the buttons in the main window anymore, only through the menu, and if I do, I cant make any changes, the buttons just don't react. I also cant load instruments into a track, only loops or premade instruments in the media menu. I tried installing everything again, also did the update, but nothing worked.
I have no idea to do any software updates I did recently, nor if that is the reason.
Can somebody help me? I am working daily with it and it is really starting to annoy me...

Close Logic, delete the file... it's the Control Surface bundle/preferences.
It should rebuild.
Odd you would corrupt that, do you have plenty of room on your system drive?
Also odd the other symptoms you're having, not sure those can all be attributed to a corrupted CS file. You may want to install the updates again.

- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.

Captivate 4 shortens timeline - elements are not displayed right anymore

I already searched the forum but couldn’t find an answer. Maybe someone of you can help me.
I have a weird problem with the timeline – in short: it changes.
I have some slides, based on imported Power Point slides. Within captivate I add some Audio (TTS), let appear images & textboxes simultaneously, add buttons etc.
Sometimes I extend the slide duration (for example when slide transition is set to automatically).
And now the problem that occurs: Captivate shortens the timeline – exactly to the length where the audio ends. Doing this causes that elements which are placed at the end of the slide are also shortened and not displayed right anymore.
This is shown in the following screenshot. On the left side of the cursor you can see an image element that normally should fade in directly after the audio ends and should stay for 4 seconds.
I couldn’t figure out when this happens. This means that I have to check every slide again to make sure that all elements are displayed right. Locking elements or the slide itself doesn't help.
Does anybody know why this happens and how to avoid this? I am using Captivate 4 and publish as an .exe or an .swf

If you click Edit > Preferences > Global > Defaults do you have the option Calculate caption timing enabled?
If so, that's likely your issue. Clear the option and your timing should stay put when you make edits.

Logic will not open with out external soundcard after Mavericks upgrade

Hi
Recently upgraded my Mac to Mavericks and my Logic 9.1.8 (32 Bit) worked fine. I have a Digidesign 002 rack which I was using as an external soundcard. These all worked fine until I updated my Digi drivers. Now Logic will not open unless the Digi is connected, Logic has also been updated but still no joy. Logic freezes when opening on 'checking midi drivers...'
Is there a preference I need to change or do I have to remain connected to my Digi forever?! lol

Logic will not open. Getting stuck at DAE stage of opening application.

I just bought Logic Pro and I installed it, making few preference settings during the initial installation. I've updated to 7.1.1 but Logic still quits "unexpectedly" when I try to open it. My TDM hardware initializes, and then...nothing. Any Ideas?

Something to check out....
Be sure that you do not also have CoreAudio active in Logic. You may have an issue with the native Logic engine using the Digi CoreAudio driver, while the DAE engine trys to take control of the same hardware.
Start Logic like without DAE as the previous post suggested, and see if you have the CoreAudio driver active in the Logic preferences. If it is, deactivate it, or atleast change it to something besides the Digi hardware.
Ideally you should have no more than 2 audio engines active in Logic at one time. CoreAudio + DAE, or DAE + DTDM, but not really all 3.
Also, be sure that your version of Pro Tools software is compatible with your hardware, installed, up to date for it's version and working properly. Before Logic will ever work under DAE, Pro Tools must be setup and working correctly.
Your post also states that you are on 10.4.4, which is not tested or supported by Digidesign. Compatibility is up to OSX version 10.4.3.

Need help understanding Specific Logic preferences

I'm currently optimizing my system for my next project, and decided to dive into the manual and read up on Logic's song setttings/preferences, however there were a few I did not understand. Can someone explain the following Logic preferences and what they effect/do? (I have included the associated Logic manual pages, hoping they will make sense to you, as they didnt to me
Living Groove connection: pg. 641 No clue what this does
Smooth Cycle Algorithm: pg 641 Do not understand
Plugin Delay compensation: pg 644. Do I need this if I am not using a DSP card, but am using the "external" and "I/O" plugins?
Sample Accurate automation: pg 644 How important is this? How much "overall system performance" is effected with this enabled? When not enabled, what is the default unit? A frame? QF? Tick?
Audio preferences-Drivers-Process buffer Range: pg 380 Dont understand the testing process. What should I expect to change between the different settings?
Audio preferences-Sample editor-"Global Undo File path" or "Store undo files in song folder." Which to use an why?
Video-Video to Song: pg 653 Is this some sort of timing compensation? Why would this be used in place of Video offset within the session itself?

Living Groove connection - If you create a groove using a region, but then you change notes' positions/velocity in the template region, any quantizing you do based on that groove will change as well. don't know if it works reliably now. Last time I tried it many years ago it was flaky.
Smooth Cycle Algorithm: Tries to optimize the way cycling works to smooth transitions between end point and start point to eliminate glitching and/or stuttering in the time.
Plugin Delay compensation: Mostly for use with 3rd party DSP cards. I don't think it has any effect on external and I/O plugs. Could be wrong about that.
Sample Accurate automation: Performance hit depends on your CPU. Not sure what the non-sample accurate default is. Probably means that the resolution is the same as that of Midi data.
Audio preferences-Drivers-Process buffer Range. You have to test by trial-and-error. Use the smallest setting which doesn't make your computer convulse whent you work it hard. Changing this setting can alter the slew rate and latency of some kind of automation and thus change the way your mixes sound if you have a lot of rapid automation moves, so try not to mess with it once you find a good setting.
"Global Undo File path" or "Store undo files in song folder." Use the latter, particularly if you use project folders and have any intentions of transporting your work or need to keep access to your undo history. Putting undo data in project folder means it gets saved with your song.
Video-Video to Song: Is how you adjust the startpoint of the movie relative to the startpoint of the Song in Logic. Your downbeat may not correspond exactly to how the video was cut. This is how you compensate for that.
External Video to Song is an aditional adjustment to conpensate for latency caused by playing QT movies via a DV bridge device on FW.

I'm having the same issue with a file called IMG_2353.MOV that was imported into iPhoto from my iPhone and also have to manually select the items to import (so the rogue file doesn't error everything out). I've tried using Image Capture to locate/delete the file directly from my iPhone, but even though I can SEE it in Image Capture, I can't delete it or anything. This is VERY frustrating! My friend/Apple guru's only suggestion was to backup my phone then restore it through iTunes. Risky but should do the trick. I'm too scared to try, though!

You may be mixing up two entirely different Adobe products.
1. Adobe Flash Player. Needed to view web pages designed with Flash. Not needed to view PDF files. Not available for Android (not just Sony).
2. Adobe Reader. Reads PDF files. However, the Android can also read most PDF files without needing Adobe Reader.

I can NOT take the continual freeze ups of my entire browser even worse when updating a page let alone just opening email. I closed the browser and have had to use even just microsoft or Google since this Firefox has gotten so horrible...
I clear my history and my cache so many times a day I can not keep track anymore and that is insane to have to do it as many times as I am even worse that it does not help in the least!

First, that cannot be an iBook G4 as that machine cannot run Snow Leopard let alone Mountain Lion. To run Snow Leopard it has to be an Intel processor, not a G4. What does it show as the Model Identifier in About This Mac, More Info, System Report, Hardware, Model Identifier?
Second, if you have erased the hard drive there should not be remnants of any prior content. Even though Disk Warrior is saying nothing is wrong with the hard drive, it sounds as though there are problems. You may want to consider simply replacing the hard drive so there are no questions about faults. A good source is OWC, http://www.macsales.com where they also have on-line videos showing how to do the replacement.
Third, you could also try again to restart using the Snow Leopard DVD/CD and use Disk Utility on that install disk to erase again, and do it a couple times, then try to install. If it continues to refuse, then it sounds as though there is a fault with the hard drive.

from the information you provided i can't tell if it is a hardware problem or a software problem. I do have an idea though, try to press your home button and lock button at the same time.

If you purchased it on your ipad, then you would have to transfer it to your computer. File>Devices>Transfer Purchases.
You can then listen to it on your computer.

Backlight does not turn on anymore Satellite M70-147

The backlight of my M-series M70-147 does not turn on anymore.
I first noticed this when awakening the laptop from standby or hibernation mode.
At first I thought the screen was not working anymore, but when I looked closely I could still make out the icons on the desktop vaguely. So at first I rebooted the laptop and then most of the times the backlight would turn on and stay on.
But now it does not do that anymore, not even when I close the screen (to force standby mode) and then open it again, the backlight won't turn on.
I also looked at other forums and topics what the cause might be, a broken backlight or a faulty power inverter.
So can anybody with the symptons described tell me what the cause might be?
I'm pretty sure nothing is wrong with the graphics card because when I hooked on my laptop to my dads LCD monitor it just displayed the desktop of my laptop on the LCD monitor. Also the first time I did this after pressing Fn-F5 a few times the screen of my laptop would come on some times. But now it does not do that anymore.
So can anybody with the symptons described tell me what the cause might be?

For me it looks like a faulty FL inverter.
The FL inverter is a small part behind the display frame and it controls the backlight.
Usually the external display should work properly because the FL inverter affects the internal display only...
However, the issue can be solved only by replacement of this part.
I recommend contacting the Toshiba ASP in your country to get this part replaced
