Logic preferences

Everything in my studio is working great,
But I can't seem to find my logic preferences anywhere. ?
I saw in another thread that people were saying to go to users/library/preferences and look for a com.apple.plist file and there is no such file on my computer?
I'd like to know where this is located in case I may need to dump the preferences one day when logos starts acting funny lol,
Thank you all ,
Derek

This should help.

  • Need help understanding Specific Logic preferences

Hello everyone. I'm currently optimizing my system for my next project, and decided to dive into the manual and read up on Logic's song setttings/preferences, however there were a few I did not understand. Can someone explain the following Logic preferences and what they effect/do? (I have included the associated Logic manual pages, hoping they will make sense to you, as they didnt to me
Living Groove connection: pg. 641 No clue what this does
Smooth Cycle Algorithm: pg 641 Do not understand
Plugin Delay compensation: pg 644. Do I need this if I am not using a DSP card, but am using the "external" and "I/O" plugins?
Sample Accurate automation: pg 644 How important is this? How much "overall system performance" is effected with this enabled? When not enabled, what is the default unit? A frame? QF? Tick?
Audio preferences-Drivers-Process buffer Range: pg 380 Dont understand the testing process. What should I expect to change between the different settings?
Audio preferences-Sample editor-"Global Undo File path" or "Store undo files in song folder." Which to use an why?
Video-Video to Song: pg 653 Is this some sort of timing compensation? Why would this be used in place of Video offset within the session itself?
Thanks in advance for any reply!

Living Groove connection - If you create a groove using a region, but then you change notes' positions/velocity in the template region, any quantizing you do based on that groove will change as well. don't know if it works reliably now. Last time I tried it many years ago it was flaky.
Smooth Cycle Algorithm: Tries to optimize the way cycling works to smooth transitions between end point and start point to eliminate glitching and/or stuttering in the time.
Plugin Delay compensation: Mostly for use with 3rd party DSP cards. I don't think it has any effect on external and I/O plugs. Could be wrong about that.
Sample Accurate automation: Performance hit depends on your CPU. Not sure what the non-sample accurate default is. Probably means that the resolution is the same as that of Midi data.
Audio preferences-Drivers-Process buffer Range. You have to test by trial-and-error. Use the smallest setting which doesn't make your computer convulse whent you work it hard. Changing this setting can alter the slew rate and latency of some kind of automation and thus change the way your mixes sound if you have a lot of rapid automation moves, so try not to mess with it once you find a good setting.
"Global Undo File path" or "Store undo files in song folder." Use the latter, particularly if you use project folders and have any intentions of transporting your work or need to keep access to your undo history. Putting undo data in project folder means it gets saved with your song.
Video-Video to Song: Is how you adjust the startpoint of the movie relative to the startpoint of the Song in Logic. Your downbeat may not correspond exactly to how the video was cut. This is how you compensate for that.
External Video to Song is an aditional adjustment to conpensate for latency caused by playing QT movies via a DV bridge device on FW.

  • Logic preference are not loading completely so my audio has stopped workin

when i boot up logic it says "Error reading /writing file "com.apple.logic.pro.cs" logical end of file reached during read operation."
So my logic is totally dead no audio or instruments work - how do i sort this out???

Try moving the file to your desktop and restarting Logic.
    It's in
    ~/Library/Preferences/Logic/

  • Logic preferences not accesable/changeable anymore

I need help with Logic Studio, I guess it was after a software update that I downloaded and installed, Logic didn't work as it used to. I cant access the preferences or settings through the buttons in the main window anymore, only through the menu, and if I do, I cant make any changes, the buttons just don't react. I also cant load instruments into a track, only loops or premade instruments in the media menu. I tried installing everything again, also did the update, but nothing worked.
I have no idea to do any software updates I did recently, nor if that is the reason.
Can somebody help me? I am working daily with it and it is really starting to annoy me...

Close Logic, delete the file... it's the Control Surface bundle/preferences.
    It should rebuild.
Odd you would corrupt that, do you have plenty of room on your system drive?
Also odd the other symptoms you're having, not sure those can all be attributed to a corrupted CS file. You may want to install the updates again.

  • Logic Preferences Advice for Imac

Hi, I just upgraded from a 2009 Mac Mini to a new Imac & have installed Logic Studio.
I was hoping on this upgrade of computer for a much smoother and faster work flow.
There are a few problems on first look with latency, you know hitting the keyboard and the notes playing 2seconds later.
Im praying this isnt anything to do with this Imac not being strong enough??
So Im looking for some guidance on how I should set all my preferences in Logic. Im sure I need to make some changes
in there as most people would.  But Im not too well informed on what I should be selecting.
In a nutshell, can anyone guide me on like a basic set up in preferences to make this Imac work at its best.
Here are the specs of the Imac if needed:
Processor  2.5 GHz Intel Core i5
    Memory  4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics  AMD Radeon HD 6750M 512 MB
    Hard Drive 500GB
    Thanks

You need something like this: http://store.apple.com/us/product/M8639G/A
Might depend on the age of your iMac - don't know if the miniVGA connector
    changed over its lifetime.

  • Logic Preferences File

Does anyone know how to Import Key Commands. I'm using Logic 7 and i've browsed to find my backup com.apple.logic.pro.plist but the browser window doesn't recognise the file and so cannot open it. Any tips?

go to User-Library Preferences then scroll down to the Logic folder then once inside click on the Logic file com.apple.logic.pro and import your settings

  • Possible Corruption in Logic Preferences?

    Hey guys
This is my first question on this forum. There may be more to come. I've been reading through these pages for the last couple weeks and have found it extremely helpful. Great work to all the contributors.
The problem I have encountered with Logic is happening with both new and old sessions. When I import Wav or AIFF into logic (dragging and dropping from Finder into the Arrange window). I can only hear play back on every other audio track. In other words track one and three have sound but track two and four don't. And on down the line there is sound only on every other audio track.
I use a customized autoload. When I created a new song by holding option and selecting File/New. I received playback on all tracks.
So I could always rebuild autoload and start over. But I have quiet a few projects that are currently unfinished...Any suggestions on how I can rescue them?
I use Logic 7.2 on a new Mac Pro Quad
Thanks again for running a great forum.

    Mac Pro

    Hi James,
By your description, it sounds like Universal Track Mode has been disabled.
Go to Audio Hardware and Drivers (under the main Audio menu), and make sure UTM is checked.
    See if that's it...

  • Logic crashed, key commands no longer work as well as certain windows/preferences/tools no longer exist, help!

While trying to record a guitar track direct through from a POD HD Pro (which I've done numerous times), Logic suddenly crashed. The screen went dark and my Macbook Pro rebooted. Once I opened Logic Pro X again, it looks like a more primitive and basic version of Logic. I no longer have the capability to open a separate mix/midi/score/etc window. When I select midi tracks they do not show up in the piano roll as to be able to edit. I've also lost all key command functions (i used just default Logic key commands). Is there any way to restore Logic Pro X or do I need to reinstall it? Thanks!

Sounds like Logic's prefs got deleted or corrupted so...
First, do this (Note you will lose any custom key commands you may have created ...)
Quit Logic pro X and then....
    Delete the user preferences
You can resolve many issues by restoring Logic Pro X back to its original settings. This will not impact your media files. To reset your Logic Pro X user preference settings to their original state, do the following:
In the Finder, choose Go to Folder from the Go menu.
Type ~/Library/Preferences in the "Go to the folder" field.
    Press the Go button.
Remove the com.apple.logic10.plist file from the Preferences folder. Note that if you have programmed any custom key commands, this will reset them to the defaults. You may wish to export your custom key command as a preset before performing this step. See the Logic Pro X User Manual for details on how to do this. If you are having trouble with a control surface in Logic Pro X, then you may also wish to delete the com.apple.logic.pro.cs file from the preferences folder.
If you have upgraded from an earlier version of Logic Pro, you should also remove ~/Library/Preferences/Logic/com.apple.logic.pro.
    Restart the computer.
Now after restarting Logic... go to Logic Preferences/Advanced and turn on all the advanced features...
Set other preferences back to how you like them (Not forgetting selecting your Audio device)
Things should be then back to normal again...

  • Logic crashes when I try to access Preferences

Logic Express 8 freezes up and crashes when I click on Preferences or Settings. I have tried reinstalling Logic, deleting Logic preferences in the Application Support folder, removing all of my third party audio unit plugins, and removing my rewire folder from Propellerheads Application Support folder. None of these methods that I found in other discussions have solved my problem. I'm not sure if this has to do with an incompatibility issue with Leopard or if I may have deleted or modified an important file that Logic relies on. I also tried reinstalling Pro Application support but it would not let me. Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I have yet to be able to use this program.
    Some specs:
1.33 GHz Powerbook G4, 1.35 GB DDR SDRAM
    Mac OS X 'Leopard' (10.5.1)
    M-Audio Firewire Solo
The crash report sent to Apple begins like this:
    Process: Logic Express [363]

    Thread 0 Crashed:
    0 com.apple.AppKit 0x914dac6c -[NSView _convertRectToSuperview:] + 24

don't know the answer i'm afraid, but may be something to do with memory...
The SIGSEGV exception relates to an application attempting to access memory that it is not allowed to access, or, say attempts to write to a read-only location. what other programs have you got running ? Have you got any 3rd party plug ins running ?
Might be worth looking in activity monitor to see exactly what's running and then re create the error and see if this gives any more info. Also check usr/library/logs and there should be a logic crash log which may give more detail
    Found something similar here
    http://forums.macosxhints.com/archive/index.php/t-29827.html
and the guy ended up reinstaling the os to fix it i'm afraid

  • Which Logic Express Preference File to delete?

In my user/library/preferences there are 2 instances of logic preferences.
One resides in the u/l/p folder, and the other lives in its own Logic folder within the u/l/p folder.
Which one contains useful info like keyboard shortcuts, and which contains info about Logics internal workings?
If Logic were to start acting strangely, which preferences should I trash?
    Cheers
    A

The file in preferences (com.apple.logic.pro or express.plist) contains all the resources/library/loops/instrument etc. locations. You can read this file in a text editor.
The file in ~/Library/preferences/Logic (com.apple.logic.pro or express) is the one containing your key commands. You can move this out of its folder, to your desktop for example, and rebuild your preferences. From this file, you can import your key commands.
You could trash both of them, but you'll lose all your settings. In extreme cases of corruption, this might be a good idea, but if you have an extensive KC setup, you probably want to try importing them into a newly created prefs file within the Logic folder, by using the import command in key commands window (which I assume is also available in Express).

  • Logic crashes when loading preferences

    hi!
can anyone please help? for some reason logic has started crashing when loading the preferences. i noticed for some reason it was playing through the built in audio rather than my motu interface, so i tried loading the preferences to change it and it just crashes every time. this has happened since i reinstalled logic studio 8, because it was giving me an error message on startup that caused it to crash. the error message i was getting was saying i have the wrong pro applications support installed (of which i could not alter or upgrade for some reason). so i went for a reinstall.. and now this other problem. any help would be greatly appreciated!
    i am running logic studio 8.0.2 on a powermac dual 2ghz G5
with 3gb ram and osx 10.5.3

Don't wipe your hard disk! (yet)
It's probably that your preferences have become corrupted. Go to User/Library/Preferences and trash your Logic preferences (com.apple.logic.pro.cs & com.apple.logic.pro.plist).
Reopen Logic and see what happens. The only problem is that you will lose all your keyboard commands etc., but they're a lot easier to recreate than reinstalling and authorising everything onto your hard drive.
Also, make a copy of your preferences once you've set everything up so that if you need to trash your preferences again sometime in the future, you can just replace them with the copies you've made.
I guess if none of this works then you may need reinstall Logic and, at worst everything else.

  • Which files - such as preferences - need to be backed up for Logic 7.2.1?

I'm trying to create Retrospect scripts to backup the important files of Logic that might need to be replaced if something goes wrong - such as the preferences.
Anyone have a list of these files and their locations?

    Backed up for 7.2.1?
7.2.1 installer installs only Logic and the node. If you want to back up your prefs, do so. I trash them after updates.
    From the man:
Saving of Song Settings and Preferences
The Song Settings are stored with the song file. If you want to start Logic with certain
settings, simply make the desired settings in your Autoload song or a Template.
The Preferences are saved whenever you quit Logic. There are several Preference files,
which are stored separately in the $/User/Library/Preferences folder. Logic preference
    files all begin with “com.apple.Logic”.

  • Can not see wave form in arrange window  logic 9 Please help

I have been using Logic for 3 months now...mostly just importing old wave files from past protools sessions.  Everything was working fine until I created a new session to record audio.  I record the audio at a nice level...I hit playback...I can hear it fine but I can't see the wave forms.  I can see it in the sample editor.  I've searched around and found the same problem in the past on some forums......they say to trash preferences...  I went to my mac drive...library...preferences  and nothing  I have no files labeled  com.apple.logic.pro  now I'm lost....the funny thing is... when I zoom in horizontal ...the wave form shows but it makes the track way too large.  Any help would be great.  Thanks

    In Logic:  Preferences/Audio
What is the "Recording Delay" parameter set to?
It should be zero, default is zero. If it's set to a positive or negative Logic will often not show the wavforms. If that's it, it's one of the long standing bugs in Logic.

  • The core audio for Logic 8 has stopped working.

I was successfully running Logic 8, Protools LE and Cubase on a MacPro with Leopard (10.5.5) and a MOTU traveler interface. I loaded on the Ignition Pack bundled with Protools LE (Mbox mini), including Melodyne/Reason/Live 6. This then stopped me opening any of my programs, Logic, Protools, Cubase and Garageband.
I have surfed several forums and found that Melodyne has caused the same problem for others. Following advice given on these forums I have...
    - Deinstalled all new programmes, including all links, files, rewire stuff
    - I have trashed Logic preferences
    - I have completely reinstalled Logic
    - I have updated the latest MOTU drivers and Apple software updates
I can open Logic using Ctrl and selecting 'no' to core audio, but when I change the core audio, either to MOTU or built-in, and enable Logic freezes and I have to force quit. I have read other threads with people having the same problem, but after following all the advice the problem is still there. Help!
Just for info: I cannot not open Cubase, Protools or Garageband, but there is no problem with standalone Kontakt 2, Itunes, Soundtrack Pro, Waveburner or Mainstage, using the MOTU.
Thanks in advance for any help and advice.

Sounds like a problem with an incompatible version of either Melodyne or Rewire.
Rewire is used to connect application. Ex. Reason can run rewired into Logic, the audio output of Reason will appear as a separate audio channel in Logic.
Two choices... see if your version of Rewire can be upgraded to the latest version. (don't know if that's even compatible)
Remove Rewire from your system, move the rewire plugin out of it's folder, to the desktop. (run a search)
The other plugin that might be giving you problems is Melodyne, move the plugin to the desktop. Again, run a search to find this stuff.
