Logic Pro 7 v. New Cubase 4

Okay, I know this is an Apple forum so there might be a certain degree of bias... but which music production software is better, Logic Pro 7 or the newly-released Cubase 4 from Steinberg? Please backup with a lot of good reasons... Logic Pro 7 is $100 more expensive, academic price, so I want to choose wisely.

I agree with a lot of what's going on here. And I'll just tell you guys my little story.
I started out doing a lot of recording for my band, and that was almost exclusively incoming, converted audio. I discovered Samplitude/Sequoia which so insanely good at pure audio it's hard to believe it's not more popular. That is until you realize that very little these days is pure audio, and those who are into pure audio know and use it, but the rest of us have to look elsewhere. (I can't speak for versions 8 and 9 of SAM, I only used up to version 7.)
But as I discovered actual production, and what I could do with my keyboards I started using Logic more and more. And I love it. I think, as has been mentioned, it's audio side is actually pretty weak and it can't do some things very well.
That being said there was enough that it could do very very well that made me pick it as my app of choice. And I was using LAP 5.5.1 on the PC for about 5 years before I finally upgraded to a Mac with LP 7.
Logic is fantastic for composition and production, but more importantly I like how it works, how it feels and when you get Logic, you get a plethora of other very useful tools with it. I've used it for audio recording as well, it requires a little outside the box thinking, and I look forward to what the future brings. But for now, it happily suits my needs.

  • How to transfer logic pro to a new computer

I have Logic Pro installed on 2 MBP's. I want to move one copy to a different MBP. How do i transfer Logic and it's license over to my new computer?
    Thanks!

Just reinstall=ing Logic never seems to do much and is considered basically a waste of time in almost every case...
So.. while the following is a PITA.. it's the most reliable method to get everything up and running on a new Mac....
    1) Reformat the System drive and install OS X using the Recovery partition...
Restart Mac (and when the gray screen appears), hold down the Command (⌘) and R keys.
Note: Dont simply reinstall OS X... Use the menu option to get to the Disk Utility... and reformat System Drive...Then install OS X..
    2) Install Logic Pro 9 Update only.... It will ask for both your LP8 and then LP9 serials so enter them...
    3) Update LP9 to 9.1.8 using this link...
    Logic Pro 9.1.8
    4) Test LP9 to ensure its all working
    5) Install the latest Audio/Midi drivers if needed..
    6) Test LP9 again....
    7) Install Kontakt (latest version) or Komplete if that's what you have... and update via NI's Service Center
    8) Test LP9 and Kontakt...
    9) Now install anything else you use...
    (10) Manually copy across all personal data, projects/photos/docs etc.. from old Mac via external HD or Thumb drive...
    Dont use Migration..........

What do you mean, "How"? Just like the first time you used them. Exactly like the first time you used them.
Maybe you meant to say "Am I allowed to use them a second time?" Yes, you are.

  • I have logic pro before  made new window instration i lost it

i have logic pro before i made new window instaration i lost it .....what could i do to get it

If you bought Logic Pro from the App Store then simply go to the Mac App Store app... making sure you are signed into the store using the same Apple ID you used to purchase Logic Pro.. and you will find it under the Purchase tab.. ready to download and install again... using the button to the far right of it's entry there.
If you installed Logic Pro from the DVD boxed set, you must reinstall from the DVDs again.

  • Migrating Logic Pro to a New Mac

Hi all - I have an older iMac with Logic Studio Pro on it and all backed up to Time Machine. Today I got a MacBook Pro and the first thing I did was restore the Time Machine backup to it. Everything worked fine - well, almost. I am missing some ESX24 Sampler Instrument files. Not all, only some. The tracks launch but then tell me that particular audio files can't be found. On the first track I opened, one guitar track and one drum track were missing files and won't play.
I have my original Logic Pro studio DVD set - I bought it as an upgrade to Logic Express.
Any tips on how to replace or complete this transfer?
    Thanks in advance

Did you purchase your download from Adobe directly?  If so then the following steps will allow you to locate your software:
Go to the Adobe Store for your country and sign in with your Adobe ID and password.
Click My Orders and then My Order History.
Locate the order number, and click the Download link in the Downloads column.
Start the download by doing one of the following:
Click Download and follow the onscreen instructions.
Click Akamai Download Manager and follow the onscreen instructions.
Click Alternate Download Method, and then click the .7z and .exe files (Windows) or the .dmg file (Mac OS) to download the software to your computer.
The reason you are experiencing this error is because you need to install the software and not copy it from one computer to another.

  • HT200280 Logic Pro X loop cannot played any loops. How do I fix this?

    Hey guys,
I have a really frustrating problem regarding my loops database. Initially, I was attempting to create an alias for my loops and move the files to an external hard drive in order save some space on my hard drive, and did so through using "Terminal" to create the link. I've since moved the loops back to their original location, but my loops in the loops browser are greyed out and they will only reappear if I plug the external drive back in. So let me run down my troubleshooting process...
I've reindexed the loops in Logic but the LoopsDatabaseV08.db file populates in the external drive
I've tried to drag the loops directly to Logic, but I guess this method only works with older LogicI've also tried this same method in GarageBand, but no luck
I've attempted to uninstall/remove everything related to Logic, and reintstall the program. Again, no luck
I feel the issue may be linked to what I messed around in "Terminal," if I'm correct could someone help with the code to correct this. Or if anyone has any other suggestions, all are welcome.
    Thanks

Shut down your Mac... Unplug any external midi  keyboards and/or controllers...  and then restart your Mac
Now test with Logic Pro and a new project and see if this behavior continues.. If not you know what the cause is... and you will need to check the settings for your external devices..
You may need to delete Logic's CS prefs and re-add your external devices once more if you cannot solve the issue with your midi devices on the devices themselves...
    Quit Logic Pro
In the Finder, choose Go to Folder from the Go menu.
Type ~/Library/Preferences in the "Go to the folder" field.
    Press the Go button.
Remove the com.apple.logic.pro.cs file from the preferences folder.
    Restart the computer.
Note: If you cannot find this file you did not follow the steps exactly as described!
Failing that, power down (not just put to sleep) any iOS devices you have and test with a new project in LPX again. If that resolves the issue then you have/had one or more midi/controller/remote apps running in the background of your iOS device.. Make sure you quit the apps, not just close them when you are finished using them....

  • Logic Pro X's "Drummer" is not recognizing my TD-6 cymbal on G2.

My TD-6 drumset, which works fine on all other Logic drumsets including Legacy, Garageband and even 3rd party EZ Drummer, does NOT work properly on Logic Pro X's new "Drummer" sounds on the "Left Cymbal" only.  Meaning the kits works fine on all other cymbals and pads.  Just the left cymbal does not work.
The "Sound" on the "Drummer" cymbal is:  C#2 and the pad plays G2 and a 2nd trigger of C#2 if hit hard or to the top.  Drummer, has only 1 sound...C#2.
Has anyone else had this issue with the new drummer sounds?  If so, other then changing the Roland TD-6 selection of location...how can I fix this?
This also means that the songs that I have recorded in Garageband, using the TD-6 and the MIDI code its produced, when moved to LOGIC, are all going to play G2, meaning NO sound or cymbal hit.  So all songs will be incorrect drum wise.  I would have to change each song separately. Moving the note of G2 to C#2 on the MIDI menu.
Why are the new sounds structured different MIDI wise then all other library sounds (including 3rd party), Logic Legacy and all garageband libraries?

  • Evolution MK449C Mod Wheel problem with Logic Pro/VSL Performance Tool

I'm using the latest version of Logic Pro on a new Intel Mac Pro. My controller keyboard is the Evolution MK449C, connected via a USB cable.
When using a Logic Audio Instrument assigned to the ESX Sampler Plug-in (running various samples, mostly from the Vienna Symphonic Library,) Logic's Transport Window doesn't register any modulation information generated from my keyboard.
As the VSL Performance Tool relies heavily on the Mod Wheel info to effect the sounds, I'm at a bit of a loss to spot the solution. When I assign a different conroller to the Mod Wheel, i.e. volume, pan, pitch bend, etc., I can see the info in the Transport Window with no problem, so I know the wheel itself is working okay.
Has either Logic or the ESX got some kind of controller filter, - maybe I've accidently turned something on that cuts out any incoming modulation. Can anyone help?
    Thanks
Mac Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

It's good to know someone else is having a similar problem (if one can call that good!)
I've been poking around and I've also noticed this: If I create a cello part in Garageband, articulation works everytime I open it. If I take that Garageband song and open it in Logic, articulation still works everytime I open it. The Logic file in this instance is saved as a "Logic Song." I don't know how to tell, but I'm assuming the Logic song is drawing it's sound files from the Garageband song (I don't know how to check that).
However, if I save the newly created Logic song as a project - with all sound files being copied to folders within a master project folder - articulation does not work when I reopen the file.
    Strange. And frustrating.

  • Can Logic Pro 9 Be re-used?

I got logic pro in sept. 2011 and I haven't really used it...Can I resell it?

If you originally purchased Logic Pro 9 from the App Store, then according to the App Store Agreement/License you can install it on any number of Computers you own (or have exclusive use of) simply by going to the App Store application, select the Purchased tab and download/install Logic Pro from there.
Note: You must sign into the App store using the original Apple ID account information that you used to purchase Logic Pro 9 in the first place... to be able to redownload Logic Pro on your new computer for free.
If you originally purchased Logic Pro as part of a physical Boxed set (Logic Studio for example ) then your license agreement allows you to install Logic on two different computers (One Desktop and One Laptop) but you may only run Logic Pro on one computer at any one time. You will also need your original Serial numbers for the original version of Logic Pro you bought plus any upgrade serial numbers (say for the Boxed upgrade set from Logic 8 to Logic 9) in order to install Logic Pro on a new computer.
Note: You will not be able to download the full version of Logic Pro 9 from the App store if you originally bought the Boxed set version.. If you try to do so you will have to pay for Logic Pro again in order to suceed. However...Once you have installed Logic Pro 9 from the DVDs you can then use the App Store/Update feature to update Logic Pro 9 to the latest version for free as normal..

  • MB vs MBPRO ? and MB with logic pro

    hey
just wondering if there are any major differences between mb and mb pro other than the obvious (screen size etc ) also someone on a forum said they cant use theirs with final cut pro. i need to be able to use logic pro on my new mb. i do find it hard to believe apple would not let logic pro run. anyway.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    thanks

I had my drive done on my MBP. I bought it off a reputable etailer, zipzoomfly (http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=101520) and took it to a authorized mac service center (microcenter) and they did the install for $50. I did the reinstall of OS X. I eBayed my old drive and got $90 for it, so all in all I saved $50 over buying it directly from apple.
In your case however, there's no option from apple so this is the only route. Also the MacBook seems to make it fairly easy to replace the drive versus the need to totally take apart the macbook pro. So you could do it yourself since it seems as easy as removing the battery and a couple of screws.
If you're wondering why I chose the drive I did it's because that seems to be the drive apple uses when people purchase the 100GB 7200 RPM upgrade, so I wanted it to be as compatiable as possible.

  • Problems w/ Logic Pro 8 plugins GUI

    hello all,
I am setting up a small pre-production studio at home....I have installed Logic Pro 8 and all of the updates on my Mac Mini 2.0GHz proscessor w/ 2Gb of RAM. Logic Pro 8 is working just fine. I haven't yet installed any third party plug-ins at all. But the GUI to ALL of the plugins that come standard with Logic Pro 8 does not appear. The plugins is recognized and i can playback sound and eveything, but the GUI to "all" of the plug-ins will not display.....I have tried removing the preferences and I checked to make sure that my displays meet the required settings for Logic.....Can someone please help me with this? Has anyone had this problem? I would really appreciate some feedback asap.....
system: mac mini (os x 10.5.3)
software: logic pro 8 w/ current updates

Yes, everybody who tries to run Logic Pro 8 on Mavericks. It does not work!
Either do not use Mavericks, or upgrade Logic Pro to a newer version - I think everything after 9.1.5 seems to work. Logic Pro X - of course - also works on Mavericks.

  • Can Logic Pro 9 play a printed MIDI 'turn'?

I find it har to describe a turn. In the Part Box, under the first square collection of items, it's the first one on the upper left, there are two in that row which appear to be the same but I have yet to find an explanation in the Manual. Anyone familiar with turns?
