Logic Pro 7. What's the best 800 firewire External H/Drive?
Irie Everyone,
I'm using Logic Pro 7. What's the best 800 firewire External H/Drive to use?
Thanks
Jalion
I am not sure, but I can warn you not to buy the Rosewill enclosure with the Oxford 922 Chip...
http://www.rosewill.com/product/product.aspx?productId=81
That is what I have with a Seagate 160GB, 8MB Cache, 7200RPM, Ultra-IDE hard drive. It's fast, but it has A.D.D. It will fall asleep, even after playing with the hard drive sleep times... Also, it has a slow response time in Logic... I click record, and it takes 3-5 seconds for it to start recording. I get the spinning beach ball of death for that 3-5 seconds... shrugs
My friend bought this drive...
http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/firewire/1394/USB/EliteAL/400+USB2/
And it works perfectly on my computer. No crappy A.D.D... Hope that helps.

*Note a few of my best friends have A.D.D. and I hope no one takes offense to that reference... it just seemed VERY fitting in my situation.

What is the best pre-installed external hard drive for my macbook pro?
I need advise on what kind of pre-enstalled external hard drive which supports both usb and firewire to get for my new macbook pro? I would like to stay in the $100. range but am willing to go higher .

Pre-installed with what?
Your best bet is to always format a new hard drive, so there are no surprises.
If you buy an external HD specifying ready for Mac ( or some such) it will cost you more for nothing. -
I have Logic Pro 8.0.2 and would like to upgrade. I'm running OS Lion on a 2010 MacB Pro. What is the best option? Logic Pro 9 App or Logic Studio? Can't find upgrade price. Or should I just stay with Logic 8?
Same here, I have Logic Studio 8 and wouldn't mind staying with that version, except that the installer won't run on my new Macbook Pro as PowerPC apps are no longer supported. That's the message I get in any case.
I use to run Logic on a 2006 Macbook Pro.
I guess that makes me a very unhappy Apple user! I've been using Logic from the Emagic days, bought every upgrade only to see Apple kill what used to be one of the best Pro Audio application. Imagine if they had done the same to Photoshop, there would be a lot of unhappy designers out there
Paying the full price for years to slowly see your daily app go down in price & efficiency until it's given away at $199 for semi pro users. Well, at least ProTools is stil alive & kicking so I guess that's the way forward now.

Just Purchased a MacBook Pro. What it the best Adobe product to get to be able to view PDFs?
Yes, Mountain Lion has a convoluted method to do a "Save as", but try this. Open the applicable PDF, from the "File" menu select "Duplicate". This will create a copy of the PDF file and highlight the name at the top of the page. Here you can type in a new name, and a gain from the "File" menu select "Move To" or "Save" to save the resultant, newly named PDF.

I have a Macbook Pro and would like to do a complete reformat. I installed Moutain Lion when it came out and do not wish to pay again since I've already paid. I have OS 10.6.4 discs with me which didnt come with my MB but with my previous one. What is the best way to go about it? I have bootcamp and wish to get rid of it (one of the many reasons of wanting to reformat)
ThanksYou can use the Boot Camp Assistant to remove the Bootcamp Partition - best way to do it.
If you use the Recovery Disk Assistant to create a recovery usb thumbdrive you can boot to that and repartition the MacHd and reinstall the OS directly.
When you purchase the OS you are free to reinstall without repurchasing as long as yo have access tot he Apple Id you used to make the purchase

Kappy's Personal Suggestions for OS X Maintenance
For disk repairs use Disk Utility. For situations DU cannot handle the best third-party utilities are: Disk Warrior; DW only fixes problems with the disk directory, but most disk problems are caused by directory corruption; Disk Warrior 4.x is now Intel Mac compatible. Drive Genius provides additional tools not found in Disk Warrior. Versions 1.5.1 and later are Intel Mac compatible. An outstanding source of information is OS X Maintenance - MacAttorney.
OS X performs certain maintenance functions that are scheduled to occur on a daily, weekly, or monthly period. The maintenance scripts run in the early AM only if the computer is turned on 24/7 (no sleep.)
If you are using a pre-Leopard version of OS X, then an excellent solution is to download and install a shareware utility such as Macaroni, JAW PseudoAnacron, or Anacron that will automate the maintenance activity regardless of whether the computer is turned off or asleep. Dependence upon third-party utilities to run the periodic maintenance scripts was significantly reduced since Tiger. (These utilities have limited or no functionality with Snow Leopard, Lion, or Mountain Lion and should not be installed.)
OS X automatically defragments files less than 20 MBs in size, so unless you have a disk full of very large files there's little need for defragmenting the hard drive. As for virus protection there are few if any such animals affecting OS X. You can protect the computer easily using the freeware Open Source virus protection software ClamXAV. Personally I would avoid most commercial anti-virus software because of their potential for causing problems. For more about malware see Macintosh Virus Guide.
I would also recommend downloading a utility such as TinkerTool System, OnyX 2.4.3, or Cocktail 5.1.1 that you can use for periodic maintenance such as removing old log files and archives, clearing caches, etc.
For emergency repairs install the freeware utility Applejack. If you cannot start up in OS X, you may be able to start in single-user mode from which you can run Applejack to do a whole set of repair and maintenance routines from the command line. Note that AppleJack 1.5 is required for Leopard. AppleJack 1.6 is compatible with Snow Leopard. (There is no confirmation that this version also works with Lion or later.)
When you install any new system software or updates be sure to repair the hard drive and permissions beforehand. I also recommend booting into safe mode before doing system software updates.
Get an external Firewire drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
1. Carbon Copy Cloner.
2. Data Backup
3. Deja Vu
4. SuperDuper!
5. SyncTwoFolders
6. Synk Pro
7. Synk Standard
8. Tri-Backup

What is the best application to use NTFS drive
Kindly What is the best free application to use NTFS drive
NTFS-3G. It is made by the Tuxera people, but not supported much. I found it slow and clunky at times. The price for Tuxera was well worth it.
However, if you can format as exFAT, that is much simpler to provide r/w access on both Mac and Windows.
exFAT can handle very large files. -

Can't download some of the additional contents from the loops in Logic Pro x, whenever I download additional contents it takes it's time to download but then when I quit Logic and start it again, the loops still can't be selected, they aren't getting downloaded, what's the solution ?
Just click loops , on the top of the panel click loops, and select "reindex all loops".

MacBook Pro Battery - what is the best way?
I have tried researching this before i ask, but i am not fully sure, so i am here asking
I recently bought a MacBook Pro. I use it as my desktop (plugged to external monitor), so it is the computer i use all day long. Since I was a PC user before, i am used to disconnecting the power when the battery is full. Now i am not sure this is the best way for the MAC.
Since I cannot take the battery out in this laptop, is it okay to plug it on and off as the battery is either charged or needs charging? I read in a few a places that you can keep it plugged most of the time and that means that the computer will be using the power and not the battery power, is this okay to do, and is it accurate?
Any advice would be appreciatedModern batteries do not have to be removed nor does the charger need to be disconnected once the battery is fully charged. It's perfectly fine to use the computer with the AC adaptor whenever you are able to operate near an AC outlet. Then operate on battery power when AC power is not available.

What is the best practice for External Repairing
Hi Experts,
When i go through the thread search I found there are so many way to repair a equipment exteranlly. But could we please tell me which is the best one(subcontracting/through refurbishment order).
AR
Edited by: Amit Rana on Mar 17, 2010 5:46 PMI have a question recently that sounds something like yours. Did some research and here is what i gathers.
You have to look at what is need. Do you want to monitor the status and location of the faulty equipment out of your company? If all you need is to track the repair cost, you can do it directly from the original maintenance order. just create a PR, convert to PO. Receive the service and its done. This is pretty simple process to begin with.
If you want to monitor the equipment out of your company then you can do it the refurbishment (subcontracting) way. In this method, you treat the refurbishment work like a subcontracting job where you buy the repair service while providing the faulty equipment as material. If you are doing this, there are some pre-req:
1. ideally your material should have split valuation to reflect the different valuation at different condition.
2. Your material is serialized.
3. i am no MM expert but if your material need to be marked as sub-con material (if there is any MM expert here, pls help to explain this).
4. you use a normal work order and not a refurbishment order.
The process would be:
1. Create a normal work order with external activity (of type PM02). PR will be created.
2. Create PO from the PR.
3. GI the faulty part to the vendor against the PO.
4. GR the refurbished part.
5. Close the order (the usual TECO, settlement + Biz close).
With this subcontracting method, you can monitor the faulty eq. status via the subcon monitor (Tcode ADSUBCON).
The reason why you don't use a refurbishment order is with a refurbishment order, you GI the faulty parts to the refurbishment order. You can't monitor the status via ADSUBCON.
There are also a simpler way to go around this. You can use a refurbishment order. Fellow forumer Pete suggest that we can update user status of the equipment master. Pick up an un-use field to enter the vendor who is repairing.
Hope this helps. -
What is the best way to clone a drive that is corrupted?
I have an external hard drive that crashed during a power outage and got it mounted again with the help of diskwarrior, but I can't seem to drag files off of it to back them up. Is there a way to make an exact backup on a new drive so that I can remove the original from it's casing and attempt to put it into a new enclosure without the issue getting worse?
As Shootist007 says, if it's so corrupted that you can't copy anything from it, it's unlikely that you'll be able to use some other utility to do the job. Especially if repairing it with DiskWarrior didn't do the job.
Ultimately, you need to keep backups of all your files, including those on an external hard drive. Any files you don't have multiple redundant copies of, all on different media, are files you will lose eventually.
If some of the files on that drive are irreplaceable, you could try recovery software. See Recovering deleted files. If that doesn't work, your only option would be an expensive data recovery service, which still can't guarantee anything. -

You may need the "gopro" agent if you've a "GoPro" camera, and you may need the "sierrawireless" and "novatelwireless" if you use a Sierra Wireless device of some sort and if you actually need the novatel drivers, but I think that you can safely get rid of the Seagate drivers (unless you need them for some sort of NAS???) and the other stuff.
Give a call back and tell us what you actually have and actually need. Most of it just looks like junk!

My dumb question. I have been synching iphone and ipad to imac. I want to start syncing those devices to my mac book as I use that primarily and the imac seldom. I do use Time machine and have backups but was concerned I might create a problem for myself if I didn't check the right box somewhere. I imagine there is a simple simple way to do this ?
You have 90 days of free AppleCare on all new Macs, and if you purchased AppleCare (STRONGLY RECOMMENDED) you also have 3 years of telelphone support. I'd recommend calling AppleCare to to support your MBP.
