  • Logic Pro 8 loads up blank...

Hello, I've encountered a problem with Logic Pro 8 loading up blank when attempting to open a session. All of the recorded material is still there and plays but I can't see anything other than the tool bar up top (inspector, Settings, etc). Everything else is wiped out with the beige color. I'm relieved to know that all my audio is safe and secure but with no way to edit, record, and otherwise resume my production, I'm somewhat troubled.
Although this may be irrelevant information, I'm using a Focusrite Saffire Pro 40 via my MacBook Pro running Logic 8 and running my sessions off a OWC Neptune 160GB Ext HD via firewire400>Saffire>MacBook. I've tried troubleshooting extensively including: Closing project and reopening, Restarting Logic, restarting my computer and hardware, checking my Saffire MixControl, checking AMS, among other things. Any session I try to open right now comes up blank as I mentioned. Which leads me to believe that there is a graphic display issue. Perhaps an essential Logic file got deleted/corrupt that is necessary for proper load up and display?
I was just working in these sessions last night without a problem. Saved everything, closed project, quit Logic, quit Saffire MixControl, ejected my HD from Finder, shut down hardware. I don't understand why I'm all of a sudden having this problem. Thank you for your time and help!

if someone were to want to do a reinstall of Logic 8, would they be able to find equivalent Logic 8 files on their system?
According to this Apple tech note, yes.
Although things changed with 10.6. So it's not a L8 vs L9 thing. It's a 10.5 vs 10.6 thing. The OP has 10.5, so he would find those files.
My feeling is that it's not an across-the-board problem where any song he works on will become corrupted; it might have to do with something specific to those projects which become corrupted
Right, I understand this is possible, but he said (if I understand him correctly) that the problem happens even with a new project where all he did was "recorded some material, drew in some automation, then closed the session." I'm surprised that a project is getting corrupted so easily. I haven't seen L8 or L9 corrupt a project so easily, but maybe you have. Then again, maybe he'll tell us about something peculiar he did to that new project which will explain the ostensible corruption.

  • Logic Pro 9 visual glitches with Mavericks update

    Hi Guys,
I updated to Mavericks on the day of it's release. I'm running Logic Pro (9.1.6) and everytime I hit play I now get these black blocks that follow my playhead. amongst other smaller visual glitches like midi notes appearing in the arrange window rather than the piano roll... I'm not totally convinced this is anything to do with Logic Pro 9's compatibility with Mavericks however the problems only started since the installation.
    Any ideas?

I'm rnning Logic 8.0.2 and i am also  having this issue. also my Mbox 2 Mini is not working (i know it's not the best interface anyway, but  still.

i accidently downloaded something that made my webcam flash on spuradically even once i deleted it. when i restarted my computer it got stuck at the white loading screen with the grey apple and wont go past there..what is wrong? will applecare cover this?  my computer also slowed down drastically before it stopped working..thanks! HELP PLEASE!

Take each of these steps that you haven't already tried. Stop when the problem is resolved.
    Step 1
The first step in dealing with a boot failure is to secure your data. If you want to preserve the contents of the startup drive, and you don't already have at least one current backup, you must try to back up now, before you do anything else. It may or may not be possible. If you don't care about the data that has changed since your last backup, you can skip this step.
There are several ways to back up a Mac that is unable to boot. You need an external hard drive to hold the backup data.
         a. Boot into the Recovery partition, or from a local Time Machine backup volume (option key at startup.) When the OS X Utilities screen appears, launch Disk Utility and follow the instructions in this support article, under “Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility.”
    b. If you have access to a working Mac, and both it and the non-working Mac have FireWire or Thunderbolt ports, boot the non-working Mac in target disk mode. Use the working Mac to copy the data to another drive. This technique won't work with USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth.
    c. If the internal drive of the non-working Mac is user-replaceable, remove it and mount it in an external enclosure or drive dock. Use another Mac to copy the data.
    Step 2
Press and hold the power button until the power shuts off. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed to boot, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Use a different keyboard and/or mouse, if those devices are wired. If you can boot now, one of the devices you disconnected, or a combination of them, is causing the problem. Finding out which one is a process of elimination.
If you've booted from an external storage device, make sure that your internal boot volume is selected in the Startup Disk pane of System Preferences.
    Step 3
Boot in safe mode. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Post for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
When you boot in safe mode, it's normal to see a dark gray progress bar on a light gray background. If the progress bar gets stuck for more than a few minutes, or if the system shuts down automatically while the progress bar is displayed, your boot volume is corrupt and the drive is probably malfunctioning. In that case, go to Step 5.
If you can boot and log in now, empty the Trash, and then open the Finder Info window on your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) Check that you have at least 9 GB of available space, as shown in the window. If you don't, copy as many files as necessary to another volume (not another folder on the same volume) and delete the originals. Deletion isn't complete until you empty the Trash again. Do this until the available space is more than 9 GB. Then reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.)
If the boot process hangs again, the problem is likely caused by a third-party system modification that you installed. Post for further instructions.
    Step 4
Sometimes a boot failure can be resolved by resetting the NVRAM.
    Step 5
Launch Disk Utility in Recovery mode (see Step 1.) Select your startup volume, then run Repair Disk. If any problems are found, repeat until clear. If Disk Utility reports that the volume can't be repaired, the drive has malfunctioned and should be replaced. You might choose to tolerate one such malfunction in the life of the drive. In that case, erase the volume and restore from a backup. If the same thing ever happens again, replace the drive immediately.
This is one of the rare situations in which you should also run Repair Permissions, ignoring the false warnings it may produce. Look for the line "Permissions repair complete" at the end of the output. Then reboot as usual.
    Step 6
Reinstall the OS. If your Mac was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade.
    Step 7
Repeat Step 6, but this time erase the boot volume in Disk Utility before installing. The system should automatically reboot into the Setup Assistant. Follow the prompts to transfer your data from a Time Machine or other backup.
    Step 8
This step applies only to older Macs (not current models) that have a logic-board ("PRAM") battery. Both desktop and portable Macs used to have such a battery. The logic-board battery is separate from the main battery of a portable. A dead logic-board battery can cause a gray screen at boot. Typically the boot failure will be preceded by loss of the startup disk and system clock settings. See the user manual for replacement instructions. You may have to take the machine to a service provider to have the battery replaced.
    Step 9
If you get this far, you're probably dealing with a hardware fault. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested. If you can't get to an Apple Store, go to another authorized service provider.

  • I have a macbook pro 15" Retina Display with 2.6 ghz and 8gb of ram yet when i try to download a HD movie from itunes it says my computer doesn't support HD?

i have a macbook pro 15" retina Display with 2.6 ghz and 8gb of ram when i try to download an HD movie from itunes it says my computer doesn't support HD? i went to the support on the apple website and looked at the specs that a computer has to meet in order to play HD movies and mine is well above them. Why can't i play the movies?

That would at least partially explain it.
These MacBook Pros drew more power than the power brick could readily supply, and so would only run at top speed when the power brick was supplemented by the battery.
Though the applicable tech note has been removed, it stated:
"If the battery is removed from a MacBook or MacBook Pro, the computer will automatically reduce the processor speed. This prevents the computer from shutting down if it demands more power than the A/C adapter alone can provide."

I own Logic Pro 7( I used to have a PowerPC  and need to upgrade to Logic Pro 9 (new Intel chip, system 10.8) .  Do I need to buy a whole new set or do I upgrade for less cost?

The cost of the Full Logic Pro 9 from the App Store is less than the cost of the discontinued Boxed Upgrade set for Logic Studio (if you could find one) ... so you might as well purchase the full Logic Pro 9 from the App store and be done.

  • Volume levels in logic pro X keep jumping up to +5.2 and  +5.0 by itself?

Volume levels in logic pro X keep jumping up to  5.2 and  5.0 by itself. There are no plugins nor automation activated on tracks? how can i stop the track levels from jumping?
What do i do to avoid this?

I and the same problem and neither of these fixes solved it. Defintely not a controller problem as guessed.
The problem was solved by going to the step editor - similar to automation - but more hidden, and also taking place in the track at a point that I had trimmed out that heppened before the beginning of the composition.
I solved the problem by going into the step editor of the track and deleting the bar in the volume track that kept setting it, and not showing up as an automation curve.
I found this problem infuriating ,I really hope this solution helps.

I changed my wireless broadband to a landline-base DSL wifi and it works like a charm. Sun was the culprit even you fiddle with its router and disable firewall, it won't work.
try changing yours too and let me know how it goes.

Reinstall OS X, either from disc or a recovery partition. You don't mention which version of OS X you're running so I don't know which it will be.

  • My MacBook Pro didn't come with a recovery CD and recovery HD will not show up

My MacBook Pro didn't come with a recovery CD and recovery HD will not show up

if you're running Snow Leopard - there there will be no recovery partition - only Lion and Mountain Lion has that.
did you buy your Macbook used?
you can call Apple to order the original install DVD for your Macbook or you can order Snow Leopard for $20.
