Logic pro 8 loops in garageband 3

I cannot get most of the loops shown in garageband 3 to play. These are new loops since I installed Logic pro 8. The loops are not greyed out but they will not play. Also since installing Logic pro, I no longer have a jazz kit in Garageband. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.
Thanks,
Glenn Parsons

  • Logic Pro loops disappear when I re-index?

I'm trying to delete some of the loops in logic to save some space on my SSD as I know I will never touch some of then.
However I located them in finder and moved them to the trash, but when I try and re-index my loops library, I enter my password and the Logic Index goes blank, as if to say their are no loops, until I restart Logic Pro 9 then they all re-appear (Inclkuding the ones I have deleted using finder)
Why can I not re-index my loops without losing them all?

    Hi iamtherealmungo,
I'm not sure if you have tried these specific steps but here is an article with instructions on rebuilding the index that I thought might be helpful:

  • Logic Pro 9 and GarageBand '11 won't recognize MIDI controllers

    Hi there,
I have two MIDI controllers that are not getting picked up by Logic or Garage Band and I'm unable to figure out why. I'm running Mac OS 10.9.4 (Mavericks) on a Mac Mini with a 250 GB SSD and 4 GB of RAM.
Setup 1 is a simple Acorn Masterkey 49 USB controller whose manufacturer claims needs no drivers, although it doesn't show up in my Audio/MIDI setup pane at all, no matter how many times I restart the computer and/or the controller in any combination. I can't use it with Logic or with Garage Band.
Setup 2 is a Digi002 Rack connected to the Mac Mini by Firewire and connected to an old-school Korg M1 as a MIDI controller. I can launch and hear the tracks I've made in the past with Logic, but now that Korg M1 is invisible even though the Core Audio Manager says my Digi002 Rack is connected and running. This setup has really never been able to speak with Garage Band, although I have been able to connect it successfully in the past.
I'm a newbie to this and don't know how to get under the hood to fine-tune MIDI set-ups within Logic or GarageBand. Is there something funky going on between Logic 9 and Mavericks, however? I'm beginning to wonder if that's the issue.
    With thanks,
    Dustin.

    Hi Dustin,
Nice to see someone pose a complete question with all the details...
First thing to do would be to delete Logic's preferences and the control surface preferences. Although I don't think it's going to help. I'll post the method at the end of this post.
One of the problem with older MIDI devices is that Apple changed something in their MIDI spec and some older MIDI devices either don't work (not recognized) or if they are recognized don't work reliably. Another problem, depending on ho old your Mac Mini is, the newer machines have USB 3.0 ports and that poses another hurdle.
Here's two things to try for the Acorn.
Turn the computer off, unplug the Acorn's USB cable. Restart the MacMini and let it settle for a couple of minutes, open Audio-MIDI Setup... plug the Acorn in, see if there's and life.
Try a powered USB 2.0 USB Hub, a hub that has it's own power supply. If you don't have one maybe you can borrow one as it's only a -possible- solution.
The Problem with the M! and Digi002 may be related. Are you using the very latest drivers available for the 002? Again, this may be a MIDI compatibility problem, although I thought this was USB only, I suspect it's more of a Digi002 driver issue with Mavericks than anything else.
MIDI Out on the M1 to MIDI IN on the 002
Delete the Logic 9 preferences file and control surfaces file.
In the Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder from the menu.
Type ~/Library/Preferences in the "Go to the folder" field.
    Press the Go button.
Remove the  com.apple.logic.pro.plist file from the Preferences folder. Note that if you have programmed any custom key commands, this will reset them to the defaults. You may wish to export your custom key command as a preset before performing this step. See the Logic Pro User Manual for details on how to do this.
If you are having trouble with a control surface in Logic Pro. then delete the com.apple.logic.pro.cs file from the preferences folder.
Be sure to include the Tilde~ in the path name above, be sure and delete both files.

  • Some applications (Logic Pro, Skype, Garageband etc) are closing 'unexpectedly' immediately after opening!

Since updating to Mountain Lion OS (January 6th 2013) a few of my applications such as Logic Pro, Skype and Garageband are appearing with "this application has quit unexpectedly" as soon as I open them. Everything is up to date and it's becoming very frustrating as I have no idea what I can possible do to get past this! Please help me!!

Fixed, but I'm not exactly sure why.
I ended up re-installing OS 10.6.4 from the system disks, upgraded to 10.6.5 using the combo updater, re-installed the MOTU MIDI and the Ensemble updater, and ran the Logic 9.1.3 updater as well.
Everything started up, and it looks like all of my preferences were preserved.

  • Os X Mountain Lion and Logic Pro, Garageband Audio Recording Driver Update

HI just purchased the os x mountain lion upgrade....and ever since my recording software like logic pro and even garageband audion recording is given me a problem .....ive been getting loud static noise during audio recording.....is there an update that will fix these issues...need to know

  • Logic Pro, Apple Loops, and Restoring from Time Machine

I recently had to restore my Mac from a Time Machine backup, and like most things touched by Apple, the restoration worked flawlessly for all my stuff, with a few exceptions. Some 3rd party apps I use had problems with file permissions but most of it was quickly sorted out in under half an hour.
However, Logic Pro refuses to see the Apple Loops I have installed on my system. My Loops are stored in two folders at the following locations:
    /Library/Audio/Apple Loops/Apple/Apple Loops for Soundtrack/
    /Library/Audio/Apple Loops/Apple/Apple Loops for Soundtrack Pro/
GarageBand has no problem seeing these, but Logic Pro can't find them, and won't let me show it where they are. The Apple Loop Utility found them alright, although I did have to show it where the files were kept. Any idea what's wrong?

You may need to rebuild the loops index.
Open up Logic and display the Loops Browser
Open up FInder and locate the folder containing the loops as you describe
Drag the loops folders onto the Loops Browser
That will rebuild the index and all should be well.

  • Is GarageBand iOS 2.0.1 compatible with Logic Pro 9.1.8?

I run Logic Pro 9.1.8 on a Mac Pro 1,1 (Snow Leopard 10.6.8) and GarageBand 2.0.1/ iOS (7) on the iPad2. The songs are built on the iPad, then opened in Logic on the Mac. This worked like a charm until recently when the iPad was updated w/ the new GB. Used to just click on the ".band" file, exported from the iPad to the Mac via iTunes, and it would open in Logic (the only audio software on the Mac), but now it asks me to save the file instead of opening it. Then when trying to open the newly saved GB version in Logic you either get a blank arrange screen or Logic crashes and says it needs to be updated.
9.1.8 the latest version of Logic Pro 9, so is it asking me to get Logic 10? If so, it would seem that I need a new Mac as mine is 32-bit and Logic 10 is 64-bit.
Does Apple keep the GB and LP versions concurrent? Meaning that the current GarageBand is compatible w/ the current Logic Pro? The least expensive solution might be to go back to the 8 track GB for iOS, but how can I do that? I do not have that purchase on my app store account any more as it was purchased from a different account that I no longer have access to.
I don't ever remember having to first save the file in LP9 and then check a bunch of boxes in the Advanced section when saving it, but this does work to open the old files (8 track version of GB iOS) . So, I tried again w/ the new GB files (16 track version of GB) and Logic crashed again and said the file was "created on a different version of Logic" please update Logic. With no more updates for Logic Pro 9, it wants LP 10? Which I can't do bc of the specs of my computer.
Your thoughts and ideas are welcomed and appreciated. Thank you.

    Hi Lee,
Thank you. That is a great work around! Yes, where is 1.x that I paid for? Exactly! That would have helped immensely.
I tried to get Garageband iOS 1.x, but could not. Contacted Apple and they said I could book a service call w/ their technical department for about $30USD! For a $5 app that I already paid for?! Are they serious?! I don't even think (even after the $30) they could have done anything. I know, it was just a poor customer service rep and they are just following protocol. I even thought of trading my iPad to someone who hadn't updated their iOS. Then I should have seen the old GB (compatible w/ the old iOS 1.x) in the app store.
    My work around:
    - Bought a used 2008 64-bit Mac Pro tower on eBay ($700USD w/ shipping).
    - Installed Mavericks and GB (free)
    - Paid for Logic X ($200)
My 2007 Mac Pro is for sale on eBay! I won't get all of the $ back, but will get some.
Imported my first GB iOS 2.0.1 into Logic X - it wouldn't open! Yet another download was needed for compatibility. So, I just opened the iOS song in GB on the Mac Tower w/ Mavericks. Saved the file in GB then opened it in Logic X. I did download the 1 billion gigs for compatibility for LPX, but have yet to try it. So long as GB does the job, it only takes a few extra secs.
I now have access to LPX Session drummer, which is pretty cool. Sometimes your original beats can work better for the song, but session drummer can help w/ fills, mixing and "real drummer" feel sometimes. Now I combine my ideas w/ theirs. One can even take the orig iPad created drum track and use it as a loop along w/ Session Drummer (which can be a bit more of a live drummer feel).
I too write on the iPad when on the road then dump to the Mac Pro Tower when I get home. I had tried a MIDI device to dump the data from the iPad to the Mac. Didn't work. Spent hours researching which software to use for MIDI. Time is $ so I shelled out the dough. They got me! Sort of I didn't buy a new Mac. I'm selling a whole bunch of old studio gear, that I don't use anyway, to make up the difference in cost.
Thanks for your input. This is my 2 cents. I could write a book about this experience!

  • Can I open Remix Tools 2 in Logic Pro's Loop Browser?

I have no problem opening up GarageBand's Jam Pack Remix Tools 2, but can only figure it out through "Import Audio File" and it's in the form of one extremely long list of files.
Is there anyway to open up this Remix Tools 2 in the same fashion of opening up "Jam Pack Management" that came with Logic Pro when I bought it? That looks a lot more organized and I'd rather click on "beats" or "bass" versus scrolling down the listen of Remix Tools 2 in alphabetical order trying to find each "beat" or "bass" contained in every file.
I'd like to open this up Remix Tools 2 through "Audio" -> "Loop Browser" but don't understand the means to get it there or if it is possible even. Any help would be grateful.

Wait, so how do I delete this thread? My question was answered in a previous thread (although from when I read it I didn't understand what it meant at the time).

  • Logic Pro X Crashes when installing loops

    OS X 10.10.1, Logic Pro X 10.0.7

I downloaded it via the App Store and on First run, Logic Pro X downloads some loops like Garageband, but Logic Pro X crashes before the installation is complete

  • Can't load Logic Pro X loops.

I can't get my Logic loops to appear in FCP X 10.1.1
I have repeatedly opened Logic Pro X and FCP X and also trashed the preferences to no avail.
Dragging the "Logic" folder to the FCP X music browser does no good as not even a + sign will appear.
I'm desperate as I have a vital deadline in 5 minutes!

OK I've got a result but it's left my Music and Sound browser looking very untidy.
I couldn't get Logic to load itself and eventually had to drag my Apple Loops folder into the top part of the window (which I had forgotten existed as it was hidden) where it is now residing as a Folder, which can be deleted if I wish.
Unfortunately there are a number of items listed such as Garageband and Logic etc. which are not folders but are empty and I cannot delete these.
Is there any way of deleting items that are not actually Folders?

  • HT200280 Logic Pro X loop cannot played any loops. How do I fix this?

    Hey guys,
I have a really frustrating problem regarding my loops database. Initially, I was attempting to create an alias for my loops and move the files to an external hard drive in order save some space on my hard drive, and did so through using "Terminal" to create the link. I've since moved the loops back to their original location, but my loops in the loops browser are greyed out and they will only reappear if I plug the external drive back in. So let me run down my troubleshooting process...
I've reindexed the loops in Logic but the LoopsDatabaseV08.db file populates in the external drive
I've tried to drag the loops directly to Logic, but I guess this method only works with older LogicI've also tried this same method in GarageBand, but no luck
I've attempted to uninstall/remove everything related to Logic, and reintstall the program. Again, no luck
I feel the issue may be linked to what I messed around in "Terminal," if I'm correct could someone help with the code to correct this. Or if anyone has any other suggestions, all are welcome.
    Thanks

Shut down your Mac... Unplug any external midi  keyboards and/or controllers...  and then restart your Mac
Now test with Logic Pro and a new project and see if this behavior continues.. If not you know what the cause is... and you will need to check the settings for your external devices..
You may need to delete Logic's CS prefs and re-add your external devices once more if you cannot solve the issue with your midi devices on the devices themselves...
    Quit Logic Pro
In the Finder, choose Go to Folder from the Go menu.
Type ~/Library/Preferences in the "Go to the folder" field.
    Press the Go button.
Remove the com.apple.logic.pro.cs file from the preferences folder.
    Restart the computer.
Note: If you cannot find this file you did not follow the steps exactly as described!
Failing that, power down (not just put to sleep) any iOS devices you have and test with a new project in LPX again. If that resolves the issue then you have/had one or more midi/controller/remote apps running in the background of your iOS device.. Make sure you quit the apps, not just close them when you are finished using them....

  • Can I use my old Garageband Jam Packs with Logic Pro X?

I'm in the process of moving all of my Logic X Library content to an external hard drive and it occurred to me that I still have 4 GarageBand Jam Packs that I might be able to use in Logic X. Does anyone know if there is any real difference in the loop content of the Jam Packs and the loops that are on Logic X ? Has anyone tried this and made any kind of comparison? Just wondering. Thanks.

When you download all the additional content from within Logic Pro X.. any jam packs you are missing are then installed during that process... but if you already have them all installed the LPX additional content installer will find them and set them up for use in LPX.
The content of the Jam packs are identical....

  • Wha?? Garageband '08 projects won't open in Logic Pro 7.2.3!!!

I'm upset. I like starting recording projects using Garageband and then opening them up in Logic for more power after the rough arrangements are done. Just upgraded to iLife 08 and recorded a new tune using Garageband 08 and when I try to open the song in Logic is says: "Sorry - can't load this song because it is created by a newer Logic Pro version - Please update Logic Pro!"
Anyone aware of this? Any updates I'm not seeing?
    Help...

GB 08 uses a .caf (?) for audio files/loops and not what has been used previously.
So maybe we are waiting for Logic 08 to be able to use this audio format.
Apparently the .caf file is something from soundtrack pro and it is a wrapper for all types of audio files.
Just going off the top of my head abut what I have read, so this may be slightly off target but I think that is the gist of it.
    Hope ths helps

  • PROBLEMS WITH LOOPS ON LOGIC PRO 9- PLEASE HELP

I'm messing around the loop Browser. Actually I am getting quite good at it. Even starting doing my personal loops... but there's something in the organization that I don't understand.
I need to make my personal folders with my loops AND I need to get rid of some redundant loops OR change some names but the system won't let me do that.
It just let me put my new loops. They would show up as a bulk in "my Loops" and that's it:
    1) Redundant loops don't appear anyway. (except in the browser) and I looked on
    Library/Audio/Apple Loops
    Library/Application Support/Logic/Apple Loops
    Library/Application Support/GarageBand/Apple Loops
    Users/"You"/Library/Audio/Apple Loops
    Users/"You"/Library/Application Support/Logic/Apple Loops
    Users/"You"/Library/Application Support/GarageBand/Apple Loops
    2) I organized my loops with dedicated folders but they wouldn't show up in the browser... And I did re-index the Lybrary...
    3) Same when I try changing names...
Anyone could help me with this matter? should I may be reinstall Logic again? My current computer was installed from a backup after the other one was stolen... just saying
    Thanks in advance
    Fran

Are you using Logic Pro 9.1.8 which is the only version of LP9  that is fully compatible with Mavericks?
Also, did you let LP9 rescan the plugins.. If you are not sure... open the Audio Units Manager found under preferences in LP9's menu bar...and see if any of your missing plugins are listed there..
If not, quit LP9, delete the AudioUnit cache and launch LP9 again so it does a full rescan...

(This is for LP8 but it works the same in LP9)
