Logic pro 8 missing files

Hey all,
Seems like a lot of knowledge floating around these forums.  How grateful I am to have access to such a great community!  I have a quick question:
I just migrated from a macbook pro to an iMac.  When setting up, using my external drive, my iMac attempted to migrate (hopefully I'm not using that term incorrectly) all my old apps over - including Logic 8.  Problem is, some stuff is missing.  So far, the only thing I've noticed (it's only been about a week, I haven't been using the program extensively) is that some instruments etc cannot be located.  To try and solve this, I dragged and dropped all the jam packs I have from the external drive onto my hard disk, and even put them in Logic's folder.  However, the program is still unable to locate these instruments, and even when the external drive is on, it doesn't load the instrument - it just indicates that the instrument is somewhere on the external drive.
I figured tomorrow I would just drag drop logic (my iMac has hardly much else on it) to the recycle bin and reinstall from scratch.  However, I'm not sure if this is necessary.  If I put the disks in, will it make duplicates (thereby wasting storage space) or would it selectively install whatever isn't already found on my iMac?  I've seen an extensive list of files I would need to delete, and can do this (provided they all made it onto my iMac.
I was just wondering what would be the, obviously, quickest way to remedy these missing files.  I'm still really inexperienced, as this is only my second mac computer, and the first one I've tried to bring old files/programs on to from my old computer.
Thanks for any suggestions!

Since you have the Logic Pro DVD's, I would just reinstall it on your iMac.However, if you want to see if there is another option that would work with Logic Pro, you might post your question in the Logic Pro dicussion here.

They do. It's called Time Machine.
You need to reinstall all of your Apps. That should replace all of the support files you nuked.

  • Logic Pro missing audio files and instrument patches

    Good morning
Last week I downloaded  Logic Pro version  9.1.8 from the App store.
I have downloaded all the additional copntent listed
I am running a brand new IMAC with OSX10.8.2
The instrument choices and patches show up.....
However  many of the audio files and instrument patches are missing.
Prerecorded songs can be loaded but...
When I open a logic song (recorded on my prior IMAC) and recorded within Logic Audio 9.0.0, I get consistent messages such as
    EXS24 Instrument "Classical piano.exs"  Audio file "BDorfer f O d#.aif not found.
This happens with most most of the patches.
    Many thanks for your help

The only things missing from the App Store version compared to the Boxed set are the loops and samples that came as part of Soundtrack Pro and those are no longer available..
However, the sample you mentioned is actually part of the GarageBand Library.... Did you install GB too?
If you did so... then... three things..
    First, try using FindAnyFile
    http://apps.tempel.org/FindAnyFile/
(Download the version on that webpage and not the App Store version)
..and do a search for BDorfer.. (Just that and nothing else) and see if it finds your missing file.
If it doesn't find it.., install GB and try again... (You may need to rebuild Spotlight afterwards as described below)
If it does find it then..
Two.. rebuild GB's Loop index as this fixes all kinds of weird things in Logic... (and yes, i know its loops not samples but it's worth trying based on past experience fixing these kinds of issues)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2443?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
    and... if that doesn't work..
    Three... Have you reindexed Spotlight?
    http://osxdaily.com/2012/01/17/rebuild-spotlight-index/
Logic uses Spotlight to find everything it needs.. so that is worth a try too if everything else fails..

  • Logic Pro missing a portion of additional content

Logic pro X says it has installed all additional contents in the download additional content window , but they are not all showing up in the library and when I load an older project (created on my old mac) there will be missing contents. I have recently switched from a 2013 macbook air to a 2014 macbook pro but I can't understand why it's indicating certain packs (e.g Jam packs - symphony orchestra, world music, voices) are installed but they are not in the library. God knows what else is missing in there too Can anyone help?

Did you manually check you have downloaded All the additional content?
By manual I mean.. Did you click on all the disclosure triangles instead of clicking on the button in the bottom left corner?
The Legacy content requires you to manually select it all...... for download.
Also, if you did do that.. Did you reindex your loops?

  • Colleague can't open my Logic Pro 8 files

    Hello out there
I hope you will understand my english.
I got a huge problem - I'm a musician, recording selfwritten songs at home and taking them on an external hard drive to the studio, where a producer does the last changes to it.
I'm working with Logic Pro 8, this colleague also.
Suddenly he can't open my Logic files anymore - But before that it worked for a whole year without ever having a problem!
We both didn't change anything on our system (Mac OS X 10.4.11, Power Mac G5, both of us), also no changes on Logic 8... So why the **** can't he open my files anymore?
I bought a new external hard drive but that wasn't the problem.
It's a pain! We can't go on working on my songs like that.
    Please help me!
    Thank you very much,
    Yasodhara

3rd party plugins like VSTs which he hasn't?! yes.
i will try that simple project thing. in a few days I go again to the studio and will see.
yes, the projects that he cannot open are running without any problems on my own mac. just not on his.
i included all assets (I think that means for example effects, EQs,... and stuff? not sure about that word. the dictionary doesn't make the meaning clear), not just the audio files without any modifying.
we already tried that open logic first thing and then opening the file with the "Open..." button. still freezes afterwards.
how to set the audio drivers off? maybe he knows but I don't. sorry
thank you both so much for your response.

  • Logic Pro missing EXS24 sounds after migration

I just got a new iMac and migrated Logic from my old Mac.  But a LOT of the sounds I use from the EXS24 plugin are missing!
Does anybody know how I can get them back?  I already tried to reinstall Logic, but the sounds are still missing.
It's weird because some of the sounds are still there, while others are missing.
My luck, most of the ones I use are the ones missing.
I don't know if other plugins are also missing stuff, so far they all seem to be EXS24 sounds.
    Thanks,
    Dan,

Using MA is never a good idea with Logic as many people find themselves having the same issue.
It is always better to install Logic from scratch on a new Mac.... alongh with any 3rd party plugins and libraries and then copy over your projects etc manually...
But.. having said that, did you also download all the additional content from the Logic Pro menu bar option?
    Logic Pro/Download Addional Content
That might help... but not always...
You may also need to try and rebuild your Spotlight indexes too.. but again, that doesn't always fix things...

  • Logic Pro 8 File locations

I had Logic Pro 8 a while ago, along with the jam pack dvds. I can't find the DVDs anymore, but have an old hard drive that is seemingly unbootable which still has the files on it. Does anyone know if there is any way I can copy all the files over to the fresh hard drive and get it to work?

I'd try a program called Data Rescue and try to pull the files off the bad drive. Its by Prosoft and worked for me in a similar situation.

  • Logic Pro Corrupt Files?   Begging for Help!

    Hello all,
I am having a real problem here. Every new file I create in logic pro eventually turns corrupt, including the backup projects automatically generated in the project folder. When I go to open the project file I've been working on, a prompt pops up either saying that the file is unreadable, damaged, unrecognized or even sometimes it says my audio files are in an unreadable 8 bit format () So it seems to be corrupting the audio files as well... Some serious problem is going on. I am running all latest versions of all my software and hardware. Leopard 10.5.5, Logic 8.02 and my MOTU Interface has the latest firmware.
I have tried dumping my preferences in the library, and I even did a full reinstall of Logic, and the problem continues. Is it a hardrive issue? I have verified and repaired disk permissions several times with no problems. I tried to call phone support and was surprised to be treated indifferently and would not be helped unless I consented to an expensive user agreement. I thought my $3,000 computer and $500 software purchase would be adequate enough. I guess not.
Sorry for the rant, this has been most troubling seeing as I have lost a project due to this crazy glitch. So I turn to you, online community! Am I alone is this problem? From online investigation it seems no one has had much of a problem with this. Does anyone have advice for me? Anything will be GREATLY appreciated!!!!!!
BTW, DP projects and Garageband projects seem unaffected, which makes me wonder if it's a Logic Pro issue after all. Oh and I'm running the same Logic Pro software on an older Powerbook G4 w/ Tiger and everything runs fine.

Yes these corrupt files work ok on G4 unless the audio has already been corrupted by my macbook pro
*I will definitely try out all of your suggestions* and see where it leads me. I'm glad other people are experiencing this problem. Well, not glad, but you know what I mean... Just thought I was going crazy.
Elith- does your exported audio come back as garbled audio sometimes? Mine either make a TERRIBLE hiss, garbled, or are not readable at all. Really sad stuff....
Are you connected to the internet via wireless or ethernet cable?
If so disable and see if it makes a difference.

  • Where has my top menu bar 'Logic pro x, file, edit, track, etc' gone?

Yes, a noob question but your assistance would be appreciated as I am trying to rewire Reason through Logic.
The top menu bar was there, but now it is not.
    Where is it hidden please?

In the screenshot you provided Logic Pro X is running in Full Screen Mode not Windowed mode
When looking at the main Logic Pro X screen... If you move your mouse pointer to the very top of the screen the menu bar should drop down and appear
    If it does not then...
To put Logic Pro X into Windowed mode when looking at Logic Pro X press  Control + Command + F together....
Now you should see the Logic Pro X  menu bar at the top of the screen
It will look something like this...

  • Final cut pro missing files

Hi. I'm new to this. I recently 'killed' my reconditioned mac and was lucky that the hard drive still had my final cut pro project intact.
I bought a brand new OS X and was advised to use a 'caddy' to plug the old hard drive into the new computer. I thought I had transferred all the files from the FCP project, but clearly it hadn't transferred everything. I am quite afraid I'll lose everything or hurt the original project but I desperately want to be independant of the hard drive and just use my new computer. How do I make sure all the relevant files are on my lap top?
Thanks in advance for any advice. (Its my first go at FCP and I am not very computer literate!

You need Final Cut Projects, Final Cut Events, and if applicable, Final Cut Camera Archives.  If you are using these only on your internal system drive, they should go in your Movies folder.  But it is strongly advisable to put them on an external Firewire 800 drive instead.  If you go with the external route, then the above mentioned folders should go at the root (top) level of your external drive as opposed to in the Movies folder.  The system will run faster and your videos will render quicker.  Plus you will typically have a lot more free space to work with on an external drive than on the smaller ones that usually come with the systems.  With the render files that FCP X produces you are defintely going to need the extra space. Then you should simply make a backup of the external from time to time with yet another external.  This will take away most of your worries   Best wishes.

  • Why are my logic pro audio files saving in my iTunes folder in the finder?

When i go to the finder, in my itunes section all my logic audio files appear and i have hundreds. im not quite sure whether this is normal or not? any explantions on how i can sort the files out and avoid them being saved in that folder in the future?

You could look in File > Project Settings > Recording and there's a button labelled 'Set..' for you to make sure that any of your Logic project files are stored in the right folder - the usual sequence of events is that Logic asks you to define a recording path as soon as you arm your first audio track and a project folder is actually created for you, so.....
I haven't thought enough about how iTunes works (I use it sometimes, that's all) but a playlist or some kind of other category might have a folder containing links (aliases) to the original files ?

  • Damaged Logic Pro 8 file

after a crash and recovery of my drive I have a logic file that won't open. It says damaged or not a logic file. It is a logic file with icon and suffix .logic, but it won't open. Is there any hope????
    FC

I know it's a logic file because with the recovery software it's all in the same folders as before and has the same name as the file I need. It just won't open in anything. it was saved the day before the crash and other logic files will work that were saved, but I need this one. The recovery software used was data rescue II on full recovery. Apple disc utility and disc warrior 4 were run on it first but with no luck. Any chance of me ever getting it back? If I could just get it to open even if it won't play, I could at least get all my parameter settings and could rebuild the mix I want. Thanks,
    Fred

  • Sending Logic Pro 8  files between multi computers same big studio? Please?

I honestly don't know what topic to put this under. We have 3 to 5 computers and will be sharing files for sessions. Other than emailing the files what other options do I have? The files are being uploaded to an internet server at the end when its "done".. (in short) someone bounces, someone signs off or changes a file then its uploaded. Those three tasks will or could be different Mac's. Any input would help. I have never needed to network between Macs before. I pictured it VIA ethernet VIA a hub. I am clueless sadly... the size of the files are small but staying organized is the priority. So if there were a way to drag and drop to a common place that would most likely be ideal...
    my email is [email protected]

    Thank you
Sorry for being in the wrong forum i'm sure. I don't even know what this falls under. I just know what the 1st in the chain is Logic Pro

I don't know if I understand you question correctly but this what to do to connect Macs provided they are on a network.
Simply check the address of the Mac you want to connect to by clicking Preferences then Network check the IP Address. Then go to your main computer in Finder click on GO then click on Connect to server type afp://(The IP Address) and click connect, then you have a choice of Hard drive to pick up.
You now have access to all files in that drive.

  • Logic pro audio file not found

Logic cant find instruments that I've used in projects. I reinstalled and it still doesnt work right. What should I do?

Hmm. Looks like the image didn't load. Try this.

  • Logic Pro X - Only drum machines do not respond on MIDI controller

98% of the time, when I load a drum machine, only a few of the keys on my MIDI controller will respond with sounds. If I switch to any other instrument patch, all keys work perfectly, but when I switch back, it's still spotty. I've disconnected and reconnected, restarted Logic, restarted the computer, and opened new sessions. Anyone have any advice?

Ahh.. ok, it was hard to tell from your original post.
When loaded are you seeing any notifications that samples are missing?
Could possibly by Logic/controller related. (Is this Logic-X?)
    Try deleting Logic's preferences:
In the Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder from the menu.
Type ~/Library/Preferences in the "Go to the folder" field.
    Press the Go button.
Remove the  com.apple.logic10.plist  file from the Preferences folder. Note that if you have programmed any custom key commands, this will reset them to the defaults. You may wish to export your custom key command as a preset before performing this step. See the Logic Pro User Manual for details on how to do this.
If you are having trouble with a control surface in Logic Pro.
then delete the com.apple.logic.pro.cs file from the preferences folder.
be sure to delete both files.
