Logic Pro 9.1.5 and Lion 10.7.2

I have Logic Pro 9.1.5 and recently updated to Lion 10.7.2 (have done clean install, not upgrade from SnowLeo)
Mostly everything is working smooth, but when I'm trying to Zoom (vertical or horizontal) or just moving around the project with
scrollbars in logic - while the playback is stopped or running - it is producing high CPU overspikes... Even on my 8-core machine.
The configuration is the same as it was in Snow Leopard, all the audio settings and etc..
Anyone also expecting such video or performance issues?
my setup:
Mac Pro, early 2008, 12 Gb RAM, ATI Radeon HD 3870 mac edition, firewire MOTU Traveler audio interface, Logic Studio 9.1.5.

I was joking... sorry for my english
anyway: I'm running a top of the line Imac, Mac Os 10.7.1 (that came preinstalled) and Logic 9.15. a full Apple rig... It's not unrealistic to expect a normal performance. IMO it's a little sub-par.
Regarding Logic, the last thing I want is they make things "simpler"... It ussually means less options. If I'd want a simpler interface and less options I'd go with protools in a breeze as it's the de facto standard and it's a lot simpler.  If somebody wants even simpler things Garage Band is the way to go...not Logic.  Why people don't ask for a more complex GB instead of a simpler Logic?. The program has TONS of places to improve: PDC is a mess, there are LOTS of bugs, and I can think not less than 20 real improvements. None of them makes things simpler. IMHO it has to be professional, not "simpler". Playing piano is very simple, but it takes time and effort to master it.  I don't agree with this childist society thinking that everything has to be so simple that any ignorant can drive it. This is a professional tool for professionals, or it should be.
That said, I also like the new features in Lion. Problem is: I use my machine for work not for some eye candy. If that were the case I'd buy an Ipad.

Same here, I have Logic Studio 8 and wouldn't mind staying with that version, except that the installer won't run on my new Macbook Pro as PowerPC apps are no longer supported. That's the message I get in any case.
I use to run Logic on a 2006 Macbook Pro.
I guess that makes me a very unhappy Apple user! I've been using Logic from the Emagic days, bought every upgrade only to see Apple kill what used to be one of the best Pro Audio application. Imagine if they had done the same to Photoshop, there would be a lot of unhappy designers out there
Paying the full price for years to slowly see your daily app go down in price & efficiency until it's given away at $199 for semi pro users. Well, at least ProTools is stil alive & kicking so I guess that's the way forward now.
This is coming from someone that never ever used a Windows machine to make music! Life is good still!

    HI. ...
Anyone know of any issues with using Logic Pro music software with Mountain lion OS..
I have heard rumours in the past is that all sorted now?

At least Logic Pro 9 and Logic Pro X work correctly in Mountain Lion. Furthermore, Logic Pro X requires the latest OS X Mountain Lion version

  • Does Logic Pro 9 work with Mountain Lion?

    Hey!
    I was wondering...
My computer has Snow Leopard installed and i would really like to get Mountain Lion. BUT there is a problem... I don't know if Logic Pro 9 will with Mountain Lion. Can anybody help me with it? And also does Logic Pro 8 and the microsoft pack (word, powerpoint, excel etc. 2011) work too? Please help me if you know it
    THANK YOU
    Cheers

Since I'm not in the middle of anything critical and have multiple backups, I decided to take the plunge and upgrade. I've only been running for an hour or so, but here's where I am:
2008 MacPro, 8x2.8Ghz, 16Gb RAM. SSL MADI PCIe card for I/O. Logic 9.1.7
Tested with a couple of recent, decent size projects (40+ tracks, VIs and plugins). Not seeing any perormance differences.
    Working:
    - Euphonix MC Mix
    - UAD2 Duo
    - Spectrasonics Omnisphere
    - NI Komplete 8
    - Waves 9
    - Soundtoys 4
    - Wallander Instruments
    - EW Play
    - Melodyne
    NOT Working:
    - Access Virus TI. Plugin opens but cannot connect to Virus. I am running the latest stable v4 release - I will try installing the v5 public Beta and report back. This is a deal breaker so if I cannot get it working I will roll back to Lion
    - SSL Duende Native. Authorization is failing. Possibly a CodeMeter issue or just authorizations lost during upgrade - will look at this next.
Make sure you are running the latest iLok driver - there was one released a few days ago.
    More as it develops.

  • Logic Pro slow after SSD and mountain lion update.

1 week ago i was mixing a project of 90 tracks, and every run really well, no "system overloads" at all.
Sometimes the 320gb 5400rpm HDD give away a message that it was running a little slow and had a hard time dealing with all the 90 tracks, but it still work'd well.
3 days ago i installed a new samsung 830 256GB SSD and updated from lion to mountain lion and wow!
Everything is really fast, except logic pro.
Im now running a project with only 35 audio tracks with EQ,compressor and 2 busses with reverb.
It should work fine, SSD with 2,3 dualcore i5 cpu and 8gb ram but no, i am only able to play a quarter of a secound before i get the anoying "system overload" message....
Does somebody know what could be wrong? Mixing is my job soo this is a real problem for me.
    Thanks!

Are you getting sudden motion sensor related stops? It may be best to tern your SMS off, as there is no need for SMS in a drive with no moving parts.
They would look like the error here

if there is no mention of the SMS I wouldn't bother although, no harm would be done if you did anyway.

  • I'm struggling to install Logic Pro 9 upgrade on Mountain Lion

Way back we bought one of the last pre-Intel G5 in order to do music processing. We also bought Logic Studio v6 or 7. Then we upgraded to Logic Studio 8 and later decided to use a macbook pro instead of the G5. So far so good. We then upgraded to Logic Pro 9 and can run this on Lion on the Macbook Pro.
My partner is now working away and takes his Macbook with him, so we want to set-up Logic 9 on my macbook pro which is running Mountain Lion 10.8.4. Once this is done we will take it off his machine, so not pirating in any way.
I have managed (at great length) to install Logic Studio 8 on my machine using Pacifist, and I can open it and create projects etc... I now want to install Logic Pro 9 on this machine but I get a message saying that a qualifying copy of Logic or MainStage was not found on the disk. To complicate matters, we can't find either the logic pro 9 disk or an image copy, so I downloaded from the following link:
    http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2972851/logic-downloads-fixed.html
which I found in this thread:  https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4948612
I have already spent many many hours fiddling with this, does anyone know how I can get around this problem?

Im using LPX and have found it to work well.... and no less stable than LP9 in terms of general stability. There are some bugs but given we are still in the early stages of development, that is not surprising and is no different to how it was with LP8 and 9 in their early days. I should add I haven't come across any "showstopper" bugs that affect my own personalo workflow and method of using Logic... just a few niggles and minor annoyances... that for the most part can be worked around if they haven't already been fixed in the 3 updates that have come out since initial release.
I have had no real issues with importing LP9 projects into LPX other than of course, the lack of 32bit Plugin support in LPX which means LP9 projects that contain 32bit plugins.. will not fully import into LPX. The midi/audio data imports ok.. the 32bit plugins will be missing however... if you don't have equivilant 64bit versions installed. For me, this issue has been very minimal simply because almsot all the plugins i use, have already been updated to 64bit versions over the last few years.
There has also been an issue with certain parameters in the track/region Inspector after import into LPX, containing weird values.. I have only had this issue once out of maybe 40+ LP9 Projects and in this one case i simply reset the values and all was well. Other users have reported different levels of how often this occurs.
Note: Once a project has been opened and then resaved in LPX the LPX version cannot be opened in LP9 as project compatibility is only backwards and not forwards.
If you cannot find your disk and serial..(which you will also need)  Contact Apple as they may be able to provide you with replacements disks if they have any left. Bear in mind if, as it appears, your LP9 is an upgrade from LP8 you will also need your previous LP8 serial as well as your upgrade LP9 serial to properly install Logic on a new Mac. Once installed you can and in fact must... then update LP9 to 9.1.8 via software updates in LIon or Mountain LIon... for Logic to under those OS versions.

  • Logic Pro 9.1.8 + Mountain Lion 10.8.2 - Frequently crashes when using plug-ins

I'm really hoping someone can help. I suspect this problem is new since I can't find a definitive answer.
When using the third party plug-in Superior Drummer 2, Logic Pro 9.1.8 frequently crashes giving problem report 'Logic Pro quit unexpectedly while using the Superior Drummer plug-in' followed by details.
This also happens when using Arturia Analog Laboratory. Similar problems have been reported by others using third party plug-ins.
Some have suggested removing the folder /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/ProKit.framework and then installing ProKit Update 7. I've tried this without success. Once removed, attempting to install it only launches the alert 'a newer version of this software is already installed', which it patently isn't. Removing it also prevents Logic Pro from launching and requires the reinstallation of Mountain Lion.
Others say it's a problem with Mountain Lion and even Lion. Apparently, the above fix works with Snow Leopard but unfortunately, since I downloaded Snow Leopard from the app store, I can't revert back because it's no longer available.
I don't know whether the problem is with the plug-ins, Logic Pro, or the operating system but I do know that this is not uncommon. I haven't yet found anything to implicate the plug-ins. All have been updated to their latest versions. I can not verify whether the plug-ins worked in previous incarnations, with a previous operating system or Logic Pro since I've only ever used them with Mountain Lion on a MacBook Pro Retina 2.7 GHz Intel Core i7, 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3.
The current cacophony of forum discussion is roughly sounding out Mountain Lion as being the issue.
I'm in the dark here! HELP!!!

The issue, according to other AAL users, is Arturia's drivers I am afraid to say.. The v1.5.2 ones work for some people but not others and they are waiting on a further update from Arturia to fix the issue. It isn't something that reinstalling ML or the Prokit for that matter..  fixes... unless you have some other issue with other plugins and software?

  • Logic Pro X - The "Force Apple Lion 10.7 support" question - your opinion

    Hi.
Now, that Apple has released Logic Pro X, we Pros have to learn that the minimum system requirement is set to OS X 10.8.4. In my book this is an asolute no go, with no reason other to impose Apples App-store power onto users to buy new hardware. So the questions for me are:
    1. Why is the minimum requirement not 10.7 ? There are a lot of MacPros and other out there capable of only 10.7, yet still capable machines for production (remember, Final Cut Pro X runs fine on the first gen MacPros…)
    2. I do not swallow it that the arguemnt might be that feature xyz didn't work out in 10.7. Let's make it clear, Logic Pro X should have been Logic 9 really, but Apple did not do their homework. Just like Avid released Protools 11, which should have been Protools 9 already. At least, Protools 11 runs fine on first Gen MacPros with 10.7.
    3. I believe - yet can't proove - that the installer just looks for the installed system. Yet the core code might run just fine. Why is there no Trial download as with FCPX ?
What is your opinion ? Is it worth the effort to generate pressure to reduce minimum system requirement to 10.7 ?
    PS.: Stay calm and relaxed
    Regards

I'm on an original Mac Pro with an HD 5770 and 12 GB of RAM, and 4 x 1TB drives running FCPX with zero problems.
    I also own a MacBook Pro i7 running 10.8.4
After using Logic since the eMagic days I will now have to investigate shifting to another DAW simply in order to be able to run the same software on my tower (studio machine) and laptop (live recording). There's thankfully no great rush as Logic 9 is no less capable today than it was yesterday, but I think today is a very sad day even so.
    Things I believe:
Apple could, had they chosen, have released a Lion compatable version of Logic Pro X. If they can do it for FCPX, they can do it for Logic Pro X
Apple could, had they chosen, have released a version of Mountain Lion compatible with EFI 32 based Mac Pro's - if hackers can do it then of course Apple could. Had they bothered to do this, then right now they'd have something to really boast about.
Apple have an ethical and environmental obligation to do what they can to support older machines, so long as doing so does not cripple current machines or future development. Doing so might take a bit of ingenuity and maybe even some style and panache. I thought that was what Apple was about - and I think it used to be, but clearly things have changed.
People are running Mountain Lion on machines like mine. Unsupported of course. But its still possible.
That Apple chose not to do these things shows quite clearly what they think of their professional customers - and by professional I do not mean "rich" - I mean people for whom a computer is a creative tool which needs to be stable, reliable and capable - and just work when you switch it on and get ready for a productive day.
I have to wonder how many other professional musicians (who let's face it really don't NEED screamingly fast machines - not compared to the video world anyways) are going to be feeling equally sad and let down over the next few days as word of this spreads.
    Just some thoughts

  • Can't open Logic Pro after having installed Mountain Lion

After having installed Mountain Lion I can't find Logic Pro (the latest version) back in my programs. I do still find all of my sessions. Trying to open a session a "Basic Content Download" starts. Just before the end of the download the computer asks for my password. After I've typed it and pressed enter the download stops.
This means I can't open any of my sessions.
    What should I do?
    Thanks for any advice.

If you used the Mountain Lion installer it will have "migrated" your iWork software to the new system.
Unfortunately that doesn't always work properly. I had to reinstall mine from the original DVD.
If you can't find your DVD then you will have to purchase the iWork software individually from the Mac Store.
Just make sure to completely uninstall your existing iWork from your System first:

  • HT1338 Im thinking of getting Logic Pro X but will Mountain Lion work ?

    Hi There,
    How's it going?
Will Mountain Lion Work on my MacBookPro 15"  Nov. 2006 ya 7 years old now. works great but lacking the power of a new Mac.
    Im running 10.7.5 now Lion
The Processor is a 2.33 GHZ
and I have 2 GB of Memory
    750 GB WD Hard Drive
    Intel Core 2 Duo
    so thats 64 bit ...right?
    Thanks Apple fans.
    Bryski

Your MacBook is 64-bit, but it's not compatible with OS X Mountain Lion which requires a Mid/Late 2007 or newer MacBook Pro. See > http://www.apple.com/osx/specs
Logic Pro X needs OS X 10.8.4 or newer, so you can't install Logic Pro X in your MacBook. You can find all the requirements for Logic Pro in this website > https://www.apple.com/logic-pro/specs/

  • When will we get a logic pro update for os x lion?

I want to use the new mac os but I also need to use Logic Pro. I wish that apple would update all of it's programs before releasing a new os. It seems
to me that the job is rteleased as an incomplete version.
When will we see a logic update for os x lion?

First the Logic team has to do a few more upgrades of Garageband for the iPhone, version 1.0 was just released, after they do that and then upgrade Garageband for the iPad and work on the Audio section of FCPX.. then Logic might see an update.
    Yes, I'm being facetious.

  • Conflict between Logic pro 7.2.2 and DIGI002 using a macbook pro

    Hi.
I'm running Logic pro 7.2.2 on a macbook Pro using a DIGI002 rack as audio interface. I experience an extremely bad performance from my computer and keep getting these warnings: "conflict between Logic Pro and external device (digi002)" and the application runs VERY slow! I have updated all drivers but that hasn't helped! I practically can't use Logic at all, as it complaints when hardly running any tracks in a session. Has anybody experinced or heard of it before? It has really started to get on my nerves!!!!

    Hi,
I am running Logic Pro with a Digi002 Rack.My driver versions are:
    Digi Core Audio manager 7.1.1cs1
ProTools LE v7.1.1cs1 also the first Intel compatible version of ProToolsLE.
    Logic Pro 7.2.2
All of this works, and I even use the Digi002 also to playback audio from iTunes,iMovieHD,iDVD,and Quicktime Pro,without any problems at all.
Are you able to run ProToolsLE well,or is it exhibiting the same problems?
Are you using the internal drive as a record drive,or do you have an external firewire drive for audio? This is important.I would recommend NEVER using the internal drive for recording audio,it can make the drive unusable after a while.
It would be good to know if you do have the latest drivers for the Digi002,and are able to run iTunes etc... If that is the case then going and removing all of Logic Pro preference files, and re-selecting the Digi002 interface as the audio hardware might do the trick. Also, check Audio Midi setup and make sure it sees the Digi002 correctly.
Lastly, and this suggestion no one seems to give...is simply this:check ALL your firewire cables, and if they look even a little frayed, replace them. Also, please put the Digi002 in the following order,if you are daisy chaining multiple firewire devices:
    MacBook Pro
    \Digi002 Rack
    \\firewire hard drive(s)
\\\any external DVD/CDburners,ESPECIALLY if the manufacturer recommends this position for heir device.
\\\\any other external devices(cameras, printers, whatever)and have them OFF when running Logic or ProTools.
I hope some of this helps,
    Cheers,
    Nick

im running logic pro 7.2.3 with mac os 10.4.8 on a g5 2.0 dual core (non-intel ppc) 5gigs of ram. I would like to upgrade both logic and the mac to the latest versions but i am concerned about performance etc. anybody using same specs and successfully upgraded. thank you in advance.

You'll be able to run Logic 9.02 and OS 10.5.8. Beyond that we are both out of the upgrade path until we get intel macs. It runs pretty well for me. More stable than 8.02, but less stable than 7.2.3. Save often. Time Machine is great though.... no more manual backups. The new features in 9.02 are worth it .
