Logic pro 9 additional content won't install and iMac 27" late 2012 won't start in Safe Mode

Hi,
I have bought Logic Pro 9 and have encountered problems installing the Additional Content pack. I am using late 2012 iMac 27" (with fusion 3TB drive) and OS X Mavericks (10.9.1).
For some reason the Additional Content pack does not install when downloaded from Logic Pro menu and it does not install either when using the .dmg file. I noticed that many users are facing the same problem, but they have resolved the issue installing the Additional Content in Safe Mode. However, my iMac does not boot in Safe Mode (other users are encountering this annoying problem and it remains unresolved by Apple, see https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5485131?start=0&tstart=0).
This is extremely frustating, because I am using my iMac for my work and therefore it is impossible to backup my data reinstall the OS X. Additionally, I am using the computer for my music projects and I am completely stuck, because I cannot use insrument patches that I need.
Does anyone have solution for this?

Install on my Core2Duo 17" MacBook Pro went flawlessly, but install on my 8 Core Mac Pro suffered this problem.  Many thanks for the solution Don, it worked for me ;-)
I am trying hard to supress an ironic chuckle though, reading other posts in this thread .... suggesting that people should call Apple Tech Support and expressing incredulity that people weren't doing this as their first option.
Well I can say say that after several calls to Apple Tech Support, amounting to several hours on the phone, and well over an hour on the phone with them today, I was informed that this problem is a known bug, and that Apple are working on a solution.  They couldn't tell me what the bug is, what machines are affected, or what else might trigger it, or when a bug release might be due.
Their troubleshooting steps basically involved various reboots, repairing disc permissions, reseting the user home directory via terminal, booting up in recovery mode (but not safe mode as per this solution) trashing various preferences files, and, as a final step, uninstalling and reinstalling from scratch.
Only when all that failed was I told that there is a known bug that Apple are working on.
I came here to see what the community was saying, as the Tech Support guy did say there was likely to be some info on the forums.  Lo and behold, a solution is posted and it works.
Why are Apple's Tech Support (in the UK at least) not aware of this?
Oh well, at least I'm up and running on my Mac Pro now.
Thanks again Don,
Cheers,
Nigel

  • Error while installing Logic Pro Additional Content HELP!!!!!!!!

Hello, I've recently purchased Logic Pro 9.1.8 from the Appstore on my new MacBook Pro (Mid 2012).
The App installed fine and so did the 2 GB obligatory download on the first launch. But then I downloaded the Logic Pro and Mainstage additional content (4.6
Gb) and then when it started installing, the install window in Logic simply disappeared, I thought it had finished installing, so I checked the Additional content
download menu and it was still unchecked (and without the "Installed" sign on the right). Having copied the package on my external hard drive for backup, I
recopied it on my mac and tried to install, but the installer then displayed the following message: An error occurred while extracting files from the package.
The Log file also included: "The file couldn’t be opened because it isn’t in the correct format."
There isn't an Apple Store in my country.
I'm running on Lion 10.7.5, with 420Gb of free space, please HELP!!!!!!!!

Solved this by downloading the file again.

  • Swapping RAM between Mac Mini and iMac (both Late 2012)

    Mac Mini = 1600Mhz DDR3 RAM, 8GB (2 x 4GB)
    iMac = 1333Mhz DDR3 RAM, 16GB (2 x 8GB)
Any reason why I can't swap the two around? I essentially need more RAM in the Mini and less in the iMac. The thing that concerns me is that when I go to "About This Mac > Memory," the Mac Mini states "Your Mac contains 2 memory slots, each of which accepts a 1600Mhz DDR3 memory module." If I toss some 1333Mhz in there...
Would swapping them cause any adverse affects besides a slower speed (whatever that actually does from a user standpoint)?

A gain of 8GB for $125 kind of *****. However, your point has been well taken. As it happens, I did upgrade the RAM in the iMac prior and apparently missed the Mhz rating. Interestingly, the number I gave you for the 1333Mhz came from within the system profiler on the iMac and states "Your Mac contains 4 memory slots, each of which accepts a 1333Mhz DDR3 memory module." I figured that it would show me what it is designed to use here since the actual RAM is listed in the over tab. Apparently this reflects what is installed and not what the system was designed for. I cross checked what you said and of course, you're correct in that both Macs run the same RAM...which now means I get to decrease my iMac RAM and still spend too much money on an 8GB increase.

  • App Store Logic Pro downloads content, then crashes

It's done this three times in a row
After downloading from the app store, I Launch logic pro, then:
    -Content downloads
    -Shows "Installing basic Content..."
    -Progress dialog box closes
    - Logic dissapears, apparently having crashed
    - Relaunch Logic
    - repeat
i've restarted the computer once. Just tried repairing permissions to see if that helps.
any help appreciated. thanks in advance.

I'm seeing this happen too.  I've tried 3 times "unsuccessfully".

  • MacBook pro will not boot. I get the gray screen, an apple icon and spinning wheel. Tried to start in safe mode but get the same screen. The only thing different was that I loaded the zedge sync app yesterday. Now getting this problem.

Macbook pro will not boot. I get the gray screen, an apple icon and spinning wheel. I tried to start in safe mode, but get this same screen. The only thing different is that I added the zedge update app to do a sync for adding ringtones to my apple cell phone. How can I get a good boot. I am fairly new to apple computer.

Reset PRAM: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4405 and then try a normal boot.
Run the Startup Manager to select Startup disk:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1310
If those did not work your disk may be sick or dying.  The top priority at this point is to make a backup copy of your data.
Check the health of the disk.  Boot in Recovery Mode (Boot, Command-R).  Run Disk Utility.  Click on the upper left disk icon.  Does the S.M.A.R.T. status say “Verified”?  If not the disk/SSD is unhealthy and needs to be replaced.  Even if it does not show “Verified” you can still attempt a backup.
Click on the icon indented below, usually called “Macintosh HD” and Verify Disk.  If it finishes with a green “OK” message then all is well with the disk.  If it shows errors in red then you have found a problem to address once the system is backed up.  Do not attempt software repairs until you have secured the data.
If the disk will not show up at all in Disk Utility as your ran the tests above then it may be dead or it may have a bad internal SATA cable.  A trip to an Apple store for confirmation would be in order.
If you have an external disk drive you can use as a backup drive then do so.  If not Google “Hitachi USB 3.0 external hard drive 1TB” to purchase one or go to a brick-and-mortar store (including an Apple store) to pickup one.  Any 1 TB external drive will do.
Assuming it is still breathing you can try to recover the data without booting from the sick disk.
Reformat the external disk.  (This will erase all data on the external disk.)
Boot in Recovery Mode.  Start Disk Utility.  Plug in the new disk.  Select it’s disk Icon (the second one down, left justified). Select the Partition tab.
    Partition Layout > Single Partition
Name: Emergency Recovery 1 (or whatever name you wish to use)
    Format: Mac OS Extended (journaled)
    Options… > GUID Partition Table > OK
    Apply
    Select the Restore tab.
Drag the old system volume (Macintosh HD) to Source.
Drag the new disk volume (Emergency Recovery 1) to Destination.
    Click on Restore.
It may take a long time for the backup.
If that will not complete post back for other emergency data recovery methods, including those from a brody.
If the backup succeeds, use the First Aid tab in Disk Utility to select the old volume (Macintosh HD) and Repair Disk.  If it does not finish with a green OK message try to repair it once or twice more.  If it repairs with a green OK message, will it boot normally?  If not, boot from the Recovery Partition and reinstall OS X.
If it is still not healthy, post back for further instructions.

  • Do I need to download the additional content of Logic Pro X every time I install it on each of my computers?

Do I need to download the additional content of Logic Pro X every time I install it on each of my computers?

A poster in the following thread gives a direct download link to the installer package:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/22495063#22495063
...if that works and Logic Pro X recognises that it's been installed at startup, then clearly you can just download it the one time and manually install it on each computer. Unfortunately the App Store doesn't appear to provide a way to export and subsequently authorise installation archives for downloaded applications, though, so you'll still have to download the 600-odd-MB core of Logic via the App Store on each machine.

  • I installed Lion OS X and Logic Pro won't run. I downloaded the 9.1.5 update: "An Eligible Logic Pro Version Was Not Found in the Applications Folder.  This Update require Logic Pro Version 9.0 or higher".  I have Logic Pro Version 9.1.1 installed.

I installed Lion OS X and Logic Pro won't run. I downloaded the 9.1.5 update: "An Eligible Logic Pro Version Was Not Found in the Applications Folder.  This Update require Logic Pro Version 9.0 or higher".  I have Logic Pro Version 9.1.1 installed.
I even pulled the dmg file into the Logic Studio folder in my applications directory and it still does not recognize it.  What do I do now?

    Niel:  Thanks.
For others benefit, here is what happened.
I had installed Logic Studio 9.1 some time ago.......not knowing what all the programs were nor what they did, I created a "Logic Studio" subfolder in my applications folder and put all Logic Studio programs into it so I'd know where they were and could review each at my leisure over time.
My assumption now is that when the updater looks for the Logic Pro program, it looks only in the applications folder.  It seems lame that it would not also look in the subfolders of the applications folder, but that apparently IS the way it works.  Because my Logic Pro program was located in the "Logic Studio" subfolder, the updater just didn't see it..hence the error message I received when I tried to update.
Solution:  I moved all the Logic Studio programs out of the subfolder and now they reside in the applications folder. Ran the 9.1.5 updater and it worked like a charm.

  • Logic Pro X can't be installed on "Macintosh HD" because Mac OS X version 10.8.4 or later is required.

    Hello,
I want to buy logic pro x and i recieve this message: Logic Pro X can’t be installed on “Macintosh HD” because Mac OS X version 10.8.4 or later is required. what i need to do? thanks!!

Given you apparently are looking for a different answer to the completely obvious one....
    You can;
    1) Undress.. stand on one leg, wear a very silly hat... whistle "Dixie" and pray to the Gods of Apple that they will somehow magically install LPX for you...
    2) Spend your days in the studio wondering what "Mac OS X version 10.8.4 or later is required" actually means... and make up a song in your head baed on the resulting thoughts... Of course, you won't be able to actually record it but maybe thats not such a bad thing for the rest of the world..
    3) You could run out to the nearest Apple Store.. spend a small fortune on a new Mac that has "Mac OS X version 10.8.4 or later" already installed and use that to install LPX on.. even though your current Mac may be perfectly capable of running LPX.. if only you actually followed the advice given by Blueberry... and did what the error meassage you orginally received, told you to do...
    4) You could simply give up on music entirely.... and spend the rsst of your life.. meditating quietly in a corner.... waiting on the world to do everything for you....
    Seriously though...............
There comes a point when it's really hard to take such a question seriously when the answer is there, right in front of you...plain as day...
    A) Upgrade your OS X version and then install LPX
    or...
    B) Do not upgrade your OS X version and do not install LPX.. Do not pass Go.. Do not collect/spend $200......
    Pretty simple really!

  • Is there a version of Logic Pro X that can be installed on a Mac Book Pro with OS X Version 10.7.5 ?

Is there a version of Logic Pro X that can be installed on a Mac Book Pro with OS X Version 10.7.5 ?

No.. Logic Pro X requires 10.8.4 or later....
To Purchase and install Mountain Lion these days.. you must buy a download content code from Apple directly... It is no longer available directly via the Mac App Store as an item you can select and buy...
If you are in the US then this link will help you...

  • Logic's 'Additional Content' to external hard drive?

'Additional Content' to external hard drive, is it possible? Will I have an option somewhere to put all the samples and presets somewhere other than my internal drive?

I got it working with symbolic link.
It's very easy and this is how I did it:
    1. Download this for free:
    https://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/10433/symboliclinker
    2. Copy original 'Logic' Folder located in /Volumes/"DRIVE NAME"/Application Support/ on the desired external drive and location. This is the location where all your additional content is beeing installed to.
    3. You can delete the original folder or rename it and use it as a backup.
    4. Use the symbolic link tool to create a symbolic link from the 'Logic' file which has been copied to your external drive.
Place the link (which looks like an alias) to its previous destination (/Volumes/Macintosh HD/Application Support/) and rename it to 'Logic'.
    5. After this you will be able to download additional content.
    6. Be aware if you want to download 30 GB of content and your SSD has just 20GB free space, it will show you the same error message because it stores the download file still on your SSD until installation is done. The solution for this is to download everything part by part.
Maybe there is a simpler solution. This was very quick and easy for me. Logic 9 and 10 both work still.
    Hope this helps.

  • Why isn't Logic Pro X content available on flash drive?

Why isn't Logic Pro X content available on flash drive?
    Running Logic Pro version 10.1.1
Imac 3.1 GHz Intel Core 7
    16 GB RAM
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 1024 MB
    Software  OS X 10.9.5

If you ask nicely at an Apple Store... and take your Mac with you.... they will download and install LPX for you..... along with all it's content...
As for why they don't offer it on a flash drive?
    Who knows.....
It's Apple.... Its the App Store system... Its all about the Apple ID.. it's where things are leading, away from the physical to the non physical medium... and so on..They do things their way.. whether we like it or not... and if you don't like it?
Then choose a different DAW (or move to a different OS via bootcamp) ..  It's no skin off their nose... so to speak... but it will cost you more...(in most cases a lot more)  for a boxed / non downloadable edition.. For example... Cubase 8 = $550... Live 9 Suite (Boxed) = $800....   Motu DP = $500.. Bitwig = $300... and so on...
$199 for LPX..and all its content...  It's a steal, box or no box...
My only issue is.. it would be good to be able to easily download and store a copy of everything myself.. without having to resort to somewhat tricky methods to do so.. so I could easily install everything on a non internet connected Mac...

Logic Pro 9 (the DVD version) can be installed on a notebook and a desktop (2). The Mac App Store products can be installed on all Macs that you own. If you need a volume license (e.g. for a school) you should contact Apple.

Java JDK 7 u17 won't install and Eclipse won't run past boot logo. Eclipse Classic used to work fine for awhile. Paul Adare is correct in saying that you cannot "upgrade" from 32-bit to 64-bit. You can, however, backup your files and reload them onto your PC.
Given that you are able to boot Windows 7 after the failure to install Windows 10 Technical Preview, it is apparent that you are not formatting the drive during your clean installation. There are a number of potential issues an existing configuration can
cause, such as preventing Windows Setup from registering boot files, modifying partitions, or moving an existing installation and data to the windows.old folder. I would recommend removing the partitions from your drive (note: this will erase any data remaining
on the hard disk) during installation to ensure that Windows Setup has a fresh hard drive to install to. If you continue to experience errors, two other factors to take into consideration are:
Does your system use a storage controller that requires loading a driver during Windows Setup?
Is the hardware malfunctioning? Do the hard disk and memory pass testing software like Windows Memory Diagnostic or chkdsk?
