Logic Pro 9 is going to give me an aneurism...

So here's my situation, I've chosen to record my bands 2nd full length album myself to cut production costs and also to learn the process so we can be as self-sufficient as possible. I've been experiencing the following issue from DAY ONE using Logic Pro 9, v 9.1.8 32bit:
I only have 3 tracks to my project so far and am continually getting this error:
Logic Pro:
System Overload.
The audio engine was not able to process all required data in time. (-10011)
My system specs are:

I'm probably overlooking something but from what I can tell, what I have meets Logic Pro 9's reccommended system requirements, not just the minimum... Any help is GREATLY appreciated!!!

I will also add a couple of quick observations..
The Fujitsu HD you have in your MBP.. is a very slow and poor performing Hard Drive in terms of Audio use...
The Yamaha Audiogram3 USB is a pretty poor performing interface mainly because of its USB Audio 1.1 implementation..... It may be cheap.. but many people have reported it really isn't up to the job when used with Pro Software. in combination of being used with low powered Macs... such as your MBP (given it's specs.. just 2 cores, only 4GB of RAM,  etc...)
Sorry, I know thats not what you wanted to hear.. and those two factors alone may be causing the poor performance you are seeing...
However, there are many other factors that could be impacting performance and those you might be able to tweak and work around as per the earlier support article I gave you a link to...

  • Can't create a new project in Logic pro . Goes straight to a midi file. Do I shut something down before trying to create a new project

Can't create a new project in Logic pro . Goes straight to a midi file. Do I shut something down before trying to create a new project?

When you open Logic, close the project that its automatically brought up (see CCT's answer above, which explains how you can change that behaviour, if you like - I usually want to listen to the last thing I was doing, but its your choice - and then File>New.
So, yeah, you do have to close the currently loaded project first.

  • How long is Logic Pro 7 going to be usable?

Anybody have any idea when Logic 7 will be phased out?
I ask because I love 7 and hate loathe despise Logic Pro 8. (don't want to get into a pointless dicussion about this - I know what I know and you can't change my mind)
I want to use 7 for the forseeable future but I saw somewhere that it was going to be unusable in Snow Leopard.... is that true? Anyone in the know?
    I'm seriously concerned about this.

I use the latest and greatest Mac-OS on my Mac-Book --as well as 10.4.7 running Logic7 on the same machine.
One can have more than one OS on a Mac. they can partition drives or use an external to boot from various OS's. Common practice. In fact, I plan on adding Windows to my Mac soon so I can install AVID video editing software.
Point is, the ability of using "outdated" software and using the newest stuff on the same machine is an easily realized reality.
Eventually I suppose my Mac-book hardware won't be able to run some future version of the Mac-OS, but that's a few years off. Or, as in the case of my Mac-book, it won't be able to run old version of an OS. Who knows?
That's part of the computer bizness. Still, with a little flexibility one can get a lot of years and milage out of their set-up. Not sure I agree with the "forced" to upgrade scenario. For instance, my old band's first album was deliberately recorded in an all analog studio on 16 track tape and it was the sweetest mix we've ever had. (and expensive) So, age of the gear and using the latest and greatest ain't always priority one when it comes to sound work. Depends on what ya want.
Maybe the OP will still be so enamored with Logic7 that he'll always use it. If it works for him, why not? I know I plan on sticking with it for awhile.
I've also learned to stay behind the curve by a year or so in order to avoid compatibility issues.

  • Firewire video and Logic Pro 64bit

Does anyone know if and when firewire support on 64bit will be available? I just read it needs to be implemented in Quicktime 64 bit. When will that be? Quite a pity my firewire convertor is no longer available in Logic. Switching to 32 bit is not an option; I need the gigs of RAM.
    thanks A

Just wanted to bump this thread up. Well is 2011 now, so we are still waiting for a solution for firewire video on 64 bit logic! C'mon Apple- we're waiting waiting waiting....
Apple, you are crippling the power users here - there is a (small) core community of folks buying your ultra high-hardware (for me a 5K 12core MPro) and using your pro apps, like Logic Pro. Until you give us this firewire solution we can't work with picture on external video monitors and take advantage of the extended memory addressing we need so desperately. One without the other is senseless, esp. when quicktime is such a CORE component of the operating system. PLEASE give us a 64 bit quicktime--- PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE - we promise we'll keep buying iphones, ipads, etc. too.
It seems so crazy we've bought a 64 bit computer, a 64 bit operating system, and a 64 bit App., yet an essential core system component of high end audio visual computing work is still not yet supported. Shame on you- the ball has been officially dropped here. I think I'll email Steve Jobs and see if I get a response... ya never know.

    I
got your message about making sure to use the machine specific disk that came with my machine. Unfortunately, Apple no longer sells Tiger replacement disks. I've got a couple of bids out on ebay, and will update when I have news to add to this post.
Thank you for your help, Frank!
To be clear you called the 800 number and explained what the situation was, old machine and lost the original DVD's?
Just checking because if you just called and tried to buy the DVD's they might tell you they no longer sell them but you aren't really trying to buy them your trying to replace the ones that are missing.
Ebay may work but there is a certain specificity to the DVD's required which, even if they seem right, might not work.
Good luck either way. If you get a chance when you get the DVD's I'd be interested in hearing how it all works out.

  • What is going on ?!?!? I can't start logic pro in 64-bit mode

I have been struggling with this issue for a while now, but I haven't made any progress. I am unable to start Logic Pro 9 in 64-bit mode. And when I say that, I mean that if I select the Logic Pro app in Finder, and say "Get Info," there is no "Start in 32-bit mode" option like all of the tutorials say to do. It used to show up, and I was able to start in 64-bit mode just fine, but suddenly, the option is not there, and the app is starting in 32-bit mode.
My Mac/OSX have been running so well, that I'm not too knowledgeable about where to even start looking for a solution. I am very comfortable with the Terminal, etc, so I can follow directions well, but I don't know where this problem stems from.
The machine is running in 64-bit mode, ie, if I do uname -a, it does return that the system is running in 64-bit mode. Logic runs just fine outside of not starting in 64-bit mode, but I want/need to be taking advantage of all of the RAM I spent so much money on.
I'm not sure what info would be needed, but here goes:
    Mac Pro 3,1 (early 2008), 8-core 2.8Ghz.
    10GB RAM
    4 SATA HDDs
NVidia Geforce 8800 GT 512MB RAM
OS X Mavericks with all current updates
Logic Pro 9.1.x, again,  with all updates available.
    Steinberg UR22 audio interface (USB)
Also, I'm not sure if it matters, but I also have Windows 7 installed through Bootcamp, and it is running fine, and recognizes 32-bit/64-bit apps just fine.
I hope that's enough for someone to be able to tell me where to start looking. I really don't get it. This was happening when I first installed Mavericks. I ended up doing a fresh install from USB stick, and everything was going fine. I don't think that an update has changed things, as the last time I opened Logic, it did open in 64-bit mode. Suddenly though, that option is unavailable.
Is there a plist entry I can edit that will force it into 64-bit mode?
What part of the OS is in charge of this type of thing?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Could be corrupted preferences.
In the Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder from the menu.
Type ~/Library/Preferences in the "Go to the folder" field.
    Press the Go button.
Remove the  com.apple.logic.pro.plist  file from the Preferences folder. Note that if you have programmed any custom key commands, this will reset them to the defaults. You may wish to export your custom key command as a preset before performing this step. See the Logic Pro User Manual for details on how to do this. If you are having trouble with a control surface in Logic Pro.
Be sure and use the ~ character in the path name.

  • Does anyone know if apple's one-to-one program would be a good way to learn how to use logic pro or am I better off going to school to learn audio engineering or something?

Of course going to school would be a good option, but I want to know if one-to-one is also a good way to learn how to use logic pro. Has anyone been through the one-to-one program for logic pro and can say that they learned how to use logic pro well because of it?

For sure, one to one training, if given by a tutor who is capable, will hand you the means to build up self-confidence  and will therefore let you operate the hard/software in an intelligent manner, instead of going for the trial and error method which has its pro's and con's too. Once you've passed this beginners phase you will make your own decisions intelligently and then you will also start to get experience and learn even from your mistakes. Something like that in theory and the rest is up to you!
    Have a nice day

As a hobbyist dual core Macbook Pro 13-1nch will do fine.
For professional work, you are better off with Macbook Pro 15-inch quad core i7..
iWeb is no more available from Apple. You may  have to check Amzon for it.

  • What would I gain by going to Logic Pro or Logic Express.

I am a current power user of Garage Band (funny huh?) and I have figured out ways around a lot of things. Most my material are samples with vocals. I am doing dance music and want to step up. But will I really be gaining anything. I do not use midi. I just want the ability to timestrech vocals to fit beats and that sort of thing. Should I go to logic express or jump right into logic pro?
What can pro do that express cannot?
    thanks, technoreid

You can find a brief feature comparison on Logic Express' page. This will give you an overview of what Express can and cannot do. If all you are doing is time stretching audio to fit already made beats, then Express may be what you need. You can do some beat composing with Express, but you won't have plug-ins such as Ultrabeat. If you can get by with the EXS-P and perhaps the Remix Tools Jam Pack, you can come up with some pretty good stuff in Express.
And like Stash put it: if you need more, you can always upgrade.

  • Logic Pro 8 gives me an error every time I shut it down

Every time I shut down Logic Pro 8 I get an error message that says something like "Logic Pro crashed...". It DIDN'T crash, I shut it down. Is there something I should be doing BEFORE I shut it down? I do the normal stuff, like save things & then just "Quit Logic". It doesn't appear to be causing a problem, I don't want to start causing problems though.
Thanks for any help I can get.

Thank you for this. I did it, however I still have the same problem. Thanks though.
After I started this thread I realized I could have done a much better job with the title & explanation, but I couldn't modify it. The REAL error message is:
    "Logic Pro quit unexpectedly..."
Even though I purposely "Quit" the app. I've tried to "Quit" & chose "Save / Don't Save" before closing LP. I've tried just chosing "Quit". I've even just clicked the "X" to close it & chosing "Quit" from the Launch Pad.
I did a bunch of searching on this site to see if anyone found a solution & all I found was bad new. It seems that MANY people have this problem with LP8 & 9 in Leopard, Snow Leopard, some in Lion & in House Cat (couldn't resist that one, sorry...)
I guess it's something I have to live with. I ran this (albiet slower) on my PPC G4 running Tiger for many years & it ran flawlessly. I'm guessing it has something to do with the CPU.
Thank you again for giving this a shot.

  • Conflict between Logic pro 7.2.2 and DIGI002 using a macbook pro

    Hi.
I'm running Logic pro 7.2.2 on a macbook Pro using a DIGI002 rack as audio interface. I experience an extremely bad performance from my computer and keep getting these warnings: "conflict between Logic Pro and external device (digi002)" and the application runs VERY slow! I have updated all drivers but that hasn't helped! I practically can't use Logic at all, as it complaints when hardly running any tracks in a session. Has anybody experinced or heard of it before? It has really started to get on my nerves!!!!

    Hi,
I am running Logic Pro with a Digi002 Rack.My driver versions are:
    Digi Core Audio manager 7.1.1cs1
ProTools LE v7.1.1cs1 also the first Intel compatible version of ProToolsLE.
    Logic Pro 7.2.2
All of this works, and I even use the Digi002 also to playback audio from iTunes,iMovieHD,iDVD,and Quicktime Pro,without any problems at all.
Are you able to run ProToolsLE well,or is it exhibiting the same problems?
Are you using the internal drive as a record drive,or do you have an external firewire drive for audio? This is important.I would recommend NEVER using the internal drive for recording audio,it can make the drive unusable after a while.
It would be good to know if you do have the latest drivers for the Digi002,and are able to run iTunes etc... If that is the case then going and removing all of Logic Pro preference files, and re-selecting the Digi002 interface as the audio hardware might do the trick. Also, check Audio Midi setup and make sure it sees the Digi002 correctly.
Lastly, and this suggestion no one seems to give...is simply this:check ALL your firewire cables, and if they look even a little frayed, replace them. Also, please put the Digi002 in the following order,if you are daisy chaining multiple firewire devices:
    MacBook Pro
    \Digi002 Rack
    \\firewire hard drive(s)
\\\any external DVD/CDburners,ESPECIALLY if the manufacturer recommends this position for heir device.
\\\\any other external devices(cameras, printers, whatever)and have them OFF when running Logic or ProTools.
I hope some of this helps,
    Cheers,
    Nick
