Logic Pro 9 & Motu 828 interface problem ?

Hi all. I am running Logic Pro 9 on my iMac with a Motu 828 mk2 audio interface connected by firewire. It used to work fine with logic but strangely i now have a problem.
It works fine with iTunes music and listening to sounds/mp3s etc from my desktop but as soon as i boot up logic pro and try to work on a project the only sound output i get is very high pitched noises and large gaps between these noises. It wont play any sounds at all through pro even samples via the browser.
Can anyone help or explain what maybe wrong? i havent a clue whats happened!
Thanks in advance for any help
Paul

Paul, sounds like the MOTU needs a reset.
- Unplug the firewire
- press the button "setup", turn full
- right until "factory default"
- push select
- confirm with "value"
- Power Off the Interface
- Power On The Interface
- Reboot The Mac - Let it settle
- Plug the Firewire Back In
Did you do an OS upgrade with the MOTU plugged In, any time you do an OS upgrade, even if it's just an incremental one (10.8.3 to 10.8.4) unplug the MOTU, some garbage is usually sent out the firewire port during an OS upgrade.

  • Logic Pro 9 - MOTU MK II inputs not available in channel strip

I usually use a MOTU 24 i/o as my main Logic Pro 9.1.5  audio interface. I'm trying to use a MOTU MK II and it is connected via firewire. It shows up fine in the Logic > Audio > core audio driver preference and is checked on. However the MKII in/outs are not available on Logic's channel strip inputs and outputs. Logic still shows the 24 i/o's even though the 24 i/o is not selected in audio preferences and is not even turned on.
I've reinstalled the latest MOTU drivers, trashed Logic's preferences and restarted my MacPro but it is still the same. Only the 24 i/o available in the channel strip input and output.
Is there a second audio i/o setting that I'm missing?
My Mic is registering OK in the MKII so I know it is getting a signal.
    Thanks,
    Richard

For some reason Logic is listing the 24 i/o inputs.
I've renamed the 828 Mk2 1 & 2  inputs to Vox 1 and Vox 2.  The MK2 has 8 analog inputs plus two mic/line inputs for a total of ten audio inputs, not 14 as listed in the channel strip input drop down.
Audio registers in and out of the Mk2 but does not register in Logic's channel strip input. I just switched back to the 24 i/o to test and audio registers fine in Logic's channel strip input with the 24 i/o. Just not with the MK2 selected as the audio source.
I'm curious if anyone else has had this problem or if I'm missing an audio input setting somewhere.
    Thanks,
    Richard

  • Simultaneous multi track recording in Logic Pro7 using MOTU 828 mk2

I would like to use the eight separate audio inputs on my MOTU 828 and connect them directly in line to eight channel strips/tracks in Logic Pro 7 v 7.2.1.  (presumably through the firewire interface).  I can't find any documentation in either the Logic or MOTU manuals to tell me how to do it.  I'm sure someone out there knows - please tell me!

this happens to me from time to time. I have level and sound on the track, I hit record and nothing gets recorded. I have discovered this happen when I have another track selected other than the track I am recording on. This may be a bug in 7.1.1. Make sure you have the track you are recording to, highlighted (selected).

  • Please help! Logic Pro 9 & Motu 8 pre

I recently upgraded some of my home studio gear, and in that just added a second MOTU 8pre.
    Here's my roadblock...
I'd like to run both MOTU 8pres so that I can record 16 tracks simultaneously.
Using the built in CueMix Console I can monitor all 16 tracks.
(I'm using 1st Motu as my main interface with optical outs from the 2nd Motu into the optical inputs of the 1st Motu.)
But once I try to monitor or record channels 9-16 through Logic Pro 9 (even garage band) I get no signal whatsoever.
Maybe I'm missing something, or haven't turned something on. I've checked preferences, etc. with no luck.
Please help! Is what I'm trying to do even compatible between Logic 9 and the MOTU 8 pres??
    Thanks in advance,
    Lucas

Lucas, it may not make any difference in this situation but the standard setup for digital devices is to have a single lightpipe/ADAT cable from the digital output of the second MOTU into the Digital in of your 1st, (main) MOTU. The 2nd MOTU will be the digital clock master with the 1st MOTU slaving to the digital clock of the 2nd unit.
That is.. unless you're using a third party digital clock driving both units.
p.s. Trust me on the single lightpipe cable.

  • Logic Pro X External Instrument Recording Problem

    Hi,
I am currently trying to record an external instument in logic pro x but coming across serious latency issues. I am just trying to figure out if the problems lies with my audio interface or the Daw?
I am currently using the Bass station 2 as my external instrument and the Scarlett 2i2 as my interface. My audio set up is below, can you point me in the direction as to where i might be going wrong?

    Thanks for the reply.
Yes trying to record the Audio from my Bass station 2 in to my scarlett 2i2. Currently using Yosemite 10.10.1.
I have tried rebooting and reducing the buffer to 128 but still having the same problem. Ive also tried drawing notes manually in to the piano roll but its still out of sequence and quantize only seems to make it worse when played back.
Recording straight in to an audio track seems to work fine but recording in to an external instrument channel doesn't.
I have to a screen shot of the piano roll so you can get an idea how much its out of sequence, its difficult to explain.

  • MacBook, Logic Pro 8 & MOTU 828mkII (FW400):  int or ext 7200rpm drive?

    Hi,
I think I'm finally ready to solidify my setup.
    My question is:
Since the MacBook only has one FW400 jack, is it better to run and Logic's Content on an internal 2.5 7200 drive OR on the external firewire drive, which is daisychained through the MOTU 828mkII. Also, since the internal is 7200, would it be a good idea to record to it also?
The reason that I'm asking this is because I'm scared about latency between the ext drive and the interface.
Does anyone have a similar setup or knowledge on this type of situation? I'm wondering is updating my internal drive to a seagate 7200 160GB will be worth it.
    Thanks in Adavance. Geoff

You're absolutely right. I have the same Saffire Pro and the same problems on all my Intel Macs.
Daisy chaining worked flawless on my older Powerbooks with the Same interface. Even copying a stupid file from a hard-drive while playing a stupid MP3 would let the Saffire go ape ;-(
I tried opening a support ticket but Focusrite said it was a normal issue because of the contention on the Firewire bus. I guess they apply double standards when it comes to Intel Macs, since there were no problems on PowerPC macs. There's something different about the Firewire chip on the Intel Macs, that's for sure.
I bought a RME Fireface 400 and this interface does not have the same problems.
See this article if you want to know more about Firewire audio chips:

  • Logic 8 third part plugin interface problem

got problem with the third part plugins interface, installing for example Lexicon native bundle, when running logic 8 and clicking on insert plugin white square appears. I didn't made any update of Logic since last year because when i did it once, Logic started to freez and crush constantly, so i re installed from new. I heard if the logic running fine don't do any updates. Most of the plugins runs ok, but some appearing as a white square, any ideas?

I've had this sort of thing when running plugs in a VST wrapper (are you using AU?) .... but if you've just spent £1000.00 equivalent on the native bundle - get in touch with Lexicon - they're sure to want to help customers like you

  • Does Apple have any plans on making an Iphone app to control Logic Pro like Motu has done for Digital performer? They make it for free which is a HUGE plus!

i was wondering if Apple has any intentions on making an Iphone/Ipad app to remotely control Logic like Motu has for Digital performer. Motu has it available for free which is a huge plus but Id be willing to pay for one if Apple came out with one of its own.Im a little mift as to why it hasnt been done, Im sure they are capable of it.

I've been using Touch.OSC, from Hexler. It is not created by Apple but works like a charm on Logic. I've been using the app for over a year both on my iPad and my iPhone. Check the app on Hexler @ http://hexler.net/software/touchosc. Another app (which I still haven't tried) is lpTouch. You can get more info at http://www.delora.com/delora_products/lptouch/lptouch.html. Both are sold at App Store for $ 4.99. Yeah, it would be cool if Apple included its own iPad/iPhone app to control LogicPro on a future update... but for the stick price of the apps I've mentioned you might have a good 'bang for the buck".

  • Logic Pro 7.2.3 - Pitch problem when opening audio from GarageBand 2.0.2.

Hi, I'm opening up a GarageBand file into Logic 7.2.3. All the synths open perfectly. However, the audio is pitched down as if it was recorded at a different resolution. I run Logic and GB in 44.1k, so I'm stumped. From the arrange window, if I double-click on the file and check it in the audio window that pops up, it plays back at the correct pitch. Any ideas what's going on?
    Thanks!
    Armen

I figured it out but thought I'd post the answer here in case others were having the same issue. I noticed to the upper left-hand corner of the arrange window that "Follow Tempo" box was checked. I unchecked it and the pitch is now correct.
The file default on my system opens up with the box checked .

  • Logic Pro 8 crashing w/ aggregate device

When using an aggregate device in Logic Pro 8 (MOTU 828 mkII (primary) and Presonus FirePod), sometimes there is no audio output. I have to go into Audio Midi Setup, change the clock from 44.1kHz to 48kHz, then change it back to 44.1kHz for the audio output to work. Much of the time, when I do this, it crashes. The screen goes dark with a dialog box saying I have to restart the computer by holding down the power button. Other times, it works okay.
In contrast, if I change the audio device in Logic Pro to just the MOTU 828 (rather than the aggregate device), the audio works fine. But when I change it back to the aggregate device, no sound is output until I do the steps in the above paragraph.
Anybody else having this problem??? Any ideas are appreciated! Driving me nuts...

You may want to go into Audio-MIDI Setup and delete and then recreate your Aggregate Device. I did this and was able to use my Aggregate Device with LogicPro 8. My Aggregate Device was comprised of Built-In and SoundFlower (16 ch) which is, of course, different from yours, but it may be worth a try.

  • How can i use adat inputs thru my motu 828 in logic pro7

    hey guys,
i really need help with this one. i'm new to logic and can't figure out how to use my additional inputs from adat in logic. it just shows me 12 inputs and outputs, which are just the i/o from motu 828 interface, not including the otpical once.
    thanks so much!!!!

i have it enabled. before i was using digital performer 4.61 and i was able to see and use all of my i/o from my motu interface. as a matter of fact i still have dp on my hard drive and when it still has all the inputs there, but not in logic. i'm duing some recordings tomorrow and i need all of my inputs to be working.

  • Logic losing contact with MOTU 828 (Mk I)

Ever since installing Logic 7.1, Once or twice a session, Logic stops talking to my Motu 828 (Mk I). I'll be playing something back, or getting ready to record, and the Motu just goes quiet - no signal indicators. If I restart the Motu, the sound comes back, so not the biggest problem in the world, but sure is annoying. I've gotten rid of, then re-installed the Motu drivers, and that doesn't seem to help.
There have been a few posts about new 828s dropping out, but nothing as intermittent as this. Any ideas?
    Dual 1.25 G4   Mac OS X (10.4.3)   Logic 7.1 MOTU 828 Mk I

I had this problem with my Motu 828 (mk I) and my previous Imac G4 (700 mhz). Sometimes it could dropout 3-4 times during a session, sometimes it did not happen for several weeks. Buying a new firewirecable instead of the one Motu supplied made the problem be less frequent.
I came to the conclusion that it was probably a defect firewireconnection on my Imac G4.
Since I bought my new Imac G5 in november the dropouts has disappered.
Suggestion: test your 828 with another mac to see if the problems go away.

  • MacBook Pro, M-Audio Firewire Interface-works with mainstage BUT NOT logic!

I have a brand new mac book pro and a m-audio firewire series interface that i am using to plug in my guitars. The problem is i cant get any sound to come out of Logic Pro. I have connected the exact same devices to Main Stage and I can get sound instantly, however of course the sound output on main stage is selected to the computers speakers. I can't seem to find a similar setting on Logic Pro, could this be the problem, or maybe even another setting I have set incorrectly?

    ComandanteX wrote:
Here's where we're at, I completely agree, I do have a pair of power m-audio studio monitors connected through the headphone out from the computer itself, i should be going from the interface to these monitors directly.
Yes, and have you done so? After you do this, in Logic do to preferences/Audio and select only the M-Audio driver, not the aggregate device but the dedicated M-Audio driver.
As for the aggregate device, in the aggregate device setup try different devices as "clock master" until you find one that works. Maybe M-Audio Output.
Logic takes user input, it's not a simple program, that is..... it isn't "Apple Simple" which I usually think of as close to brain dead.
You will also need to make sure the correct set of inputs is selected for the track you're recording on, default is usually 1-2, if you're recording mono input 1 is left, input two is right.
Also make sure you have "Universal Track Mode" in Logic Preferences/Audio selected. I would encourage you to first get things working using M-Audio's dedicated hardware driver, plug your speakers into the M-Audio main outs.

  • MOTU 828Mk3 & Logic Pro's default audio outputs

Hello people! Well, I received my MOTU 828Mk3 a couple of days ago and am very pleased with it so far, sonically much better than the Mk2 however I'm slightly frustrated with the default audio out in logic pro. The 828 is set-up fine with the default audio out set to master out, itunes etc all work fine but within logic pro the default output is analog 1-2, the master outputs are 9-10. So every-time I create a new project I have to select 9-10 as the output, I can live with that but if you drag any samples/loops into a project the output of the new track defaults to analog 1-2, bit of a pain. So my question is - Is there any way you can tell logic to use a default pair of outputs?
    Cheers
    Paul

You should be able to set the main outputs to be 1 and 2 in the MOTU setup app. I've done that with my 896mk3 and it works as expected. It just means that the outputs 1-8 on the unit are actually 3-10 in Logic.

  • Why won't my Mac & Logic Pro detect my input device(s)?

    Hey,
I'm using a macbook with OSX 10.8.2 and Logic Pro with a steinberg interface. I have also tried a tascam interface that was given to me by a friend to try, but I still have the same problem:
Logic doesnt detect either of the interfaces, and neither does my mac. However both interfaces detect the computer as indicated by their LEDs. I can switch on things like phantom power on the interfaces themselves, so the connection is live, but neither the computer nor the program can see them.
I have used this exact setup in the past, but it's been over a year since I used logic and now I'm out of practice and just stumped.
    Any help?

Alright.., I will try this and hope i´ll do it right. My (a little older ) MacBook Pro has the same problem, it just wont shut down. Things works kind of fine until I shall shut it down, cause then the wheel will spin and spin and spin (and it goes to sleep still spinning), so it must be some corrupted files or app that is stuck. I just bought MacOs10.6.3 to reinstall or recover the harddrive, but I´ve never done these things on a Mac before. I have formated in Windows alright, but I am worried about the drivers, I dont know how to back them up! ??? Where do I find them? I hope I dont have to wipe the disc out fully, that it helps with just some cleaning up. I will come back after my "operation".. please wish me good luck! I really dont want it to crash completely.. Thank you for all the information I had here. See you soon.. '
