Logic Pro 9 Re-sale

I just recently purchased Logic Pro X and am curious about whether or not I want to sell my version of Logic Pro 9 (Academic Version), etc. I am also curious that if I sold the software to a new owner would I have to delete it? And if I didn't would I still be able to use it? If I would still be able to use it then I'd just sell it, because there's not much harm besides a box of CD's sitting in storage that I could sell for cash. Also, if I do have to delete the software am I losing anything? I know Mainstage and Soundtrack Pro, etc. Soundtrack Pro i'm not so sure that I'd want to lose since it's been discontinued but I'm also not really sure if I even need it.. I just remember some handy tutorials out of a Logic Pro 9 book that did some neat things like "noise cancelation", etc. Never really used Mainstage.. But I do have someone interested to buy for $100 off Craigslist, but I'm seeing the software going anywhere from $200+^. Not so sure what to do.. Any other Logic nerds have any experience with this? I mean $100 bucks really isn't much considering the contents of the package.. Especially since it used to be so much.. But I thought since Apple themselves docked it down in the App Store to $200 flat that $100 isn't that bad, especially since Logic Pro X dropped in July. Any thoughts, opinions and jibber-jab appreciated, thanks for reading and bests!
(P.S. Price really is only going to drop even more from hear, thought $100 might not be so bad. I did raise it to $200.. After seeing all the others on the net, but I feel like I should take the money and run while someones interested..)

I'm pretty sure that you're not allowed to resell an academic version.

  • Would apple ever consider putting Logic Pro 9 up for sale again?

Of course Logic Pro X knocked Logic Pro 9 off the app store a few years ago. I really want to use Logic Pro 9 for music projects, but cannot buy it anywhere (I haven't purchased it before). I've seen a considerable amount of hate towards Logic Pro X and personally do not prefer it. Would apple ever consider re-releasing Logic Pro 9 if the demand for it was great enough?

  • Is GarageBand iOS 2.0.1 compatible with Logic Pro 9.1.8?

I run Logic Pro 9.1.8 on a Mac Pro 1,1 (Snow Leopard 10.6.8) and GarageBand 2.0.1/ iOS (7) on the iPad2. The songs are built on the iPad, then opened in Logic on the Mac. This worked like a charm until recently when the iPad was updated w/ the new GB. Used to just click on the ".band" file, exported from the iPad to the Mac via iTunes, and it would open in Logic (the only audio software on the Mac), but now it asks me to save the file instead of opening it. Then when trying to open the newly saved GB version in Logic you either get a blank arrange screen or Logic crashes and says it needs to be updated.
9.1.8 the latest version of Logic Pro 9, so is it asking me to get Logic 10? If so, it would seem that I need a new Mac as mine is 32-bit and Logic 10 is 64-bit.
Does Apple keep the GB and LP versions concurrent? Meaning that the current GarageBand is compatible w/ the current Logic Pro? The least expensive solution might be to go back to the 8 track GB for iOS, but how can I do that? I do not have that purchase on my app store account any more as it was purchased from a different account that I no longer have access to.
I don't ever remember having to first save the file in LP9 and then check a bunch of boxes in the Advanced section when saving it, but this does work to open the old files (8 track version of GB iOS) . So, I tried again w/ the new GB files (16 track version of GB) and Logic crashed again and said the file was "created on a different version of Logic" please update Logic. With no more updates for Logic Pro 9, it wants LP 10? Which I can't do bc of the specs of my computer.
Your thoughts and ideas are welcomed and appreciated. Thank you.

    Hi Lee,
Thank you. That is a great work around! Yes, where is 1.x that I paid for? Exactly! That would have helped immensely.
I tried to get Garageband iOS 1.x, but could not. Contacted Apple and they said I could book a service call w/ their technical department for about $30USD! For a $5 app that I already paid for?! Are they serious?! I don't even think (even after the $30) they could have done anything. I know, it was just a poor customer service rep and they are just following protocol. I even thought of trading my iPad to someone who hadn't updated their iOS. Then I should have seen the old GB (compatible w/ the old iOS 1.x) in the app store.
    My work around:
    - Bought a used 2008 64-bit Mac Pro tower on eBay ($700USD w/ shipping).
    - Installed Mavericks and GB (free)
    - Paid for Logic X ($200)
My 2007 Mac Pro is for sale on eBay! I won't get all of the $ back, but will get some.
Imported my first GB iOS 2.0.1 into Logic X - it wouldn't open! Yet another download was needed for compatibility. So, I just opened the iOS song in GB on the Mac Tower w/ Mavericks. Saved the file in GB then opened it in Logic X. I did download the 1 billion gigs for compatibility for LPX, but have yet to try it. So long as GB does the job, it only takes a few extra secs.
I now have access to LPX Session drummer, which is pretty cool. Sometimes your original beats can work better for the song, but session drummer can help w/ fills, mixing and "real drummer" feel sometimes. Now I combine my ideas w/ theirs. One can even take the orig iPad created drum track and use it as a loop along w/ Session Drummer (which can be a bit more of a live drummer feel).
I too write on the iPad when on the road then dump to the Mac Pro Tower when I get home. I had tried a MIDI device to dump the data from the iPad to the Mac. Didn't work. Spent hours researching which software to use for MIDI. Time is $ so I shelled out the dough. They got me! Sort of I didn't buy a new Mac. I'm selling a whole bunch of old studio gear, that I don't use anyway, to make up the difference in cost.
Thanks for your input. This is my 2 cents. I could write a book about this experience!

  • How to run Logic Pro 7 on a MacBook ?

I have bought a MacBook in replacement of my PowerBook G4. I own Logic Pro 7.1 for a long time and cannot install it on my MacBook because it requires version 7.2.
The Apple Store says « sorry, the crossgrade to version 7.2 for use on Intel based computers is not on sale any longer... ».
    I feel lost...

Get on the phone to Apple and they should be able to get you to what you need. Might have to bounce around a bit, but you'll probably get it.

  • Is there any way I can still get logic pro 9? Can I buy it from someone?

Logic Pro 9 is no longer available and I have called the Apples sale department 5 times. Is there a way I can buy 9 another way?

You cannot purchase Logic 9 from the App Store as it has been discontinued.
You cannot buy the App Store version  of Logic Pro 9 from anyone else as they didn't buy it.. they licenced it and as such cannot sell it.. There is no method that enables them to do so.
You could purchase the Boxed DVD version of Logic Studio 2.0 which includes Logic Pro 9 from places like eBay... if there are any of them up there at this time..  Most of them will be 'used' copies as again, Logic Studio 2.0 was discontinued by Apple a long time ago now..
However, make sure it is the FULL version of Logic Studio 2.0 and not the UPGRADE version... and make sure it is Logic Studio 2.0 and not 1.0 as that version includes Logic Pro 8 and not 9

  • Logic pro 7 academic version upgrade

I think this question has been asked multiple times in the previous posts so sorry if that is true. I was wondering if I could update my logic pro 7 academic version to logic pro 8? It says on the box that academic versions are not eligible for upgrades so I'm holding off from buying the upgrade to logic pro 8. So do I have to buy the whole complete logic pro 8 package?
    Bye for now

Here is my story... I bought Logic Pro 7 Academic at the beginning of '05 when it was still 500 dls. Later I bough the update to 7.2. for 50 dls. Last week I went to the Apple store and bought the Logic Pro 8 upgrade for 200 dls because the sales rep told me I could upgrade from the academic version. I don't know what to do with the upgrade I bought now that I know I can't use it, plus I already opened the box. With all the money invested in this software Apple should get me a retail copy of LP8 for free! (in my dreams)...

  • DVD-A surround with Logic pro... Troubles

    Hi everyone
I'm producing and mixing an album with logic pro 8 in surround mode 5.1
In the window bounce, I can create a DVD-A... Cool, but I cannot read and test it with the dvd player include in my iMac.
I want to create a DVD-A who can be read on all DVD players and control it before duplication for the sale.
I've tried to import the surround files into Waveburner but it's impossible, only 2 channels files are accepted.
    How can I do ?
Is someone can help me ?
    Thanks a lot

Hi. I believe DVD-A is still not a free protocol, and DVD-A players are rare. and though Logic can make DVD-A, there is no program for the Mac that can actually play them. I'll try a little search, there has been a comprehensive thread on exactly this topic - though more than a year ago, if I remember correctly...

  • Will logic pro x be released on disc

i was shocked today when i called up logic westfields to hear that there are no plans to make
a physical product of logic pro X   :?
Now i understand some people don't mind which way they get software but i think as a customer
i like the idea of ordering or going to pick up a small package containing logic or other programs.
is this is the new bleek future?   :/

Thanks for the input octopi... Actually I am addressing the users. If enough of us complain loudly enough and their sales start dropping maybe Apple will listen. Or not. At least they seem to have finally fixed the download manager in Logic Pro X. I agree with you that the people running Apple obviously don't read these forums and don't care what we, the users, think about their products, delivery methods or anything else for that matter. I do remember a day when Apple wasn't what it is today and was literally on the edge of bankruptcy. Jobs came back, pointed their stupid pointy-headed management back on track and here comes the "i" everything days. Well, Steve's gone (bless his soul) and I haven't seen any new innovations come out of Apple since he left? the company. Oh yeah, they've had tons of putting a new wig on all of their old stuff and calling it new but nothing truly revolutionary has been created. From the looks of things they will continue to get away with this since everyone just goes gaga over anything Apple but reality bites and fads have a way of passing. Now it's a watch... golly gee I know I'm gonna go stand in line and git me one... A freak'n watch! I don't need no stink'n watch! Maybe I'll go back to Ableton for my music needs...

  • Can logic pro only be installed onto 1 computer

this guy has logic pro complete for sale with the usb dongle, will it work on mine, or can it really only be installed on 1 machine?

Be careful. It might be an academic version which, IIRC, is not upgradeable to major versions.
But yes, LP can be installed on as many machines as you want - the dongle is the most important part and is required to be attached before Logic will work.

  • Logic pro installations (pre-App Store)

I would like to install Logic Pro on my old (2006) Powerbook Pro however, the disk drives on those machines was notoriously unreliable, so I can't install from the disks (I purchased it as an upgrade from v8, prior to App Store downloads being available).
Can you offer any guidance as to whether the serial number can be recognised by the App Store, and then a copy downloaded. I assume that it's paired with my Apple I.D., but in the App Store, my only option appears to be to repurchase it. This isn't an option for me.
    Thanks.

No, your serial isn't linked with the copy of Logic that can be obtained from the App Store.. and your Apple ID and Password..
When you install Logic from the boxed set some files are created on your System HD that contain your serial (once you have entered it during the install proceedure)
When you go to update via the newly combined App Store and Software Updater mechanism the update routines check for those files containing the serial and allow you to download any updates if those files exists. No serial codes on your HD? No ability to download or update from the app store app without purchasing the App store version of Logic..
So, you cannot download a fresh copy of Logic from the App store without purchasing it... as doing so uses a different mechanism altogether...
So, how do you install your Logic Studio 2 Upgrade (Logic Pro 9) if your internal DVD has failed...?
    Two methods...
Buy an external USB DVD from somewhere like Amazon for $30 and use that to install the Logic Studio 2 Upgrade package.. (It doesn't need the original Logic Studio 1/Logic Pro 8 DVDs.. just the Original LS1 Serial number followed by the LS2 upgrade serial number)
Use a friend's (or any other Mac ) computer to make disk images of your Logic Studio 2 DVDs to an external HD and then install from those images...
Once installed... then you can update using the App Store/Software Update method to the latest version for your PowerPC bearing in mind that Logic Pro 9 is now Intel Only so you can only update to a much older version these days...
It's also worth noting that the version of Logic Pro 9 for sale on the App Store is for Intel Only Macs... so that wouldn't be of any use to you anyhow...
    Hope this helps..

Perhaps it's my fault because I don't follow online discussions closely to track the rumour mill about release dates of updated software, I just decide I want to upgrade and do it.
No.. even the guys at my local Apple Store only found out about it 18 hours prior to release when they received updated sale info on the product.. and as far as I am aware the rumor mill didn't provide a release date either in advance... so don't beat yourself up over it because you wouldn't have known in all likelyhood... no matter what research you did in advance.
The reality is.. in terms of announcing products in advance.. Apple like some other companies, are always in a no win situation.
One form of that no win situ..  that occurs is as follows...
Announce LPX 7 days out and the guy who bought LP9 8 days out will complain.
Announce LPX 14 days out and the guy who bought LP9 16 days out will complain..
Announce LPX 30 days and and the guy who bought LP9 31 days out will complain..
There will always be someone they frustrate.. no matter how far in advance they announce it... because there is always a cutoff.. and someone will always be on the wrong side of it.
Now.. Should they have offered a refund for someone who purchased LP9 30 days or less from the date of LPX's release? Well, in my opinion.. absolutely they should have..  and to begin with, unofficially, the CSRs did I might add....until that was stopped by "higher management" because the unofficial refunds were breaching the Terms and Conditions of the App Store Agreement... and possibily setting a precedent which they didn't want set..
But as far as annoucements ahead of time.. I sort of get why not... and again, don't blame yourself.. There is no way you could have known in advance unless you were on the Dev team for LPX that is!

I recently was working on a project in Logic Pro 9.1.1, saved the project and put my macbook to sleep. When i return, my mac wont turn on for the first 10-15 minutes sitting on the blank screen with the rotating circle. When it finally loads through and comes on I find that my Logic Pro software along with Waveburner, Garageband, Abelton, basically any DAW that i try to run will not open. The application icon just bounces and then shows the crash report, i also tried simply opening the project file. I have tried re-downloading the Logic Pro software with no luck. I desperately need this software to be working again, i will post the crash report along with this hoping someone could help out.

    Alex,
If you have to ask about backups then I would have to assume you have not been making any.. be it Clones of your System Drive using Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper! (My personal favorite) that you manually save to an external HD or you haven't setup and been using Time Machine that is built into OS X that automatically backs up everything to an ext HD.  I highly recommend you use one of those methods from now on... and in fact i highly recommend you use both methods.. as the Clone method allows you to quickly wipe out everything and reinstall from the clone image to take you back to where you were before any issue arrived. I make one every time before I upgrade anything major.. and I also make one every week...
So, as i said, did you try checking and repairing your System Disk using OS X's Disk Utility? That is the only possible other option you have at this time as you have no backups..
Other than that.. You will probably need to start again from scratch.... formatting the HD.. installing OS X and then your Apps etc...
Make sure you move/copy all personal data files such as Photos, docs, Logic Pro Projects and so on.....to an external HD before you reformat and start again... You can then move those personal data files back manually after you have reinstalled everything...
