Logic Pro Crashing and Processor Peaking and Orchestration

I have an original G5 dual 2gig and run Logic Pro 7.0.1 with Garritan Personal Orchestra and Jazz Band. I am noticing that Logic is now crashing more then ever before. I see from readings that other people are having problems, others are not. My system crashes when I am building sample instruments or using tools in the Arrange Window, but rarely on recording.
I am also noticing that the computer seems to be giving me less effective performance with Audio Instruments. I can now only load 5 or 6 with a couple of effects added. In the past I believe I could have gotten 13 or 14 instruments before noticing that perhaps it was time to freeze files.
I just replaced the Logic Board of the computer as it failed recently. However I do not think this is the cause of the problem.
Have not wanted to upgrade to the more recent versions of Logic as I don't see much that I need in them, but definitely when the next significant Logic Upgrade arrives (it is much overdue) then definitely will purchase this.
I guess the 7 gigs of RAM I purchased for this machine was a waste of money. I thought that extra RAMwould assist me being able to add more instruments, but I guess not. When the time comes to upgrade the computer completely, what amout of RAM would be appropriate for working in Logic.
How can one create an orchestral work when there is not enough power for all the instruments? Are there any people out there creating large instrumental scores with AU instruments who have an advice.
Thanks for any thoughts.

Having more than about 4 or 5 gigs probably is a waste of money since no OSX apps can use more than 4 gigs (official number, in real use it's more like 2.7 or so) of ram.
This should change when 10.5 ships and logic is updated to a 64 bit version, but who knows how long that will be. You may be able to get more loaded by using the freestanding versions of instrument plugins.
With current versions, optimal ram is probably about 4-5 gigs. To load more instruments, your best shot is having the fastest possible drives and busses, and dropping the disk buffer settings to the lowest you can get away with. But from your description it seems like your CPU is running out long before you max out the ram.
Unfortunately, the dual G5s don't seem to be as powerful as newer machines. Quad G5s are a big improvement in power, and it seems like most of the intel boxes are faster than the dual G5s were. You can definitely do full orchestral work (at least all instruments if not all articulations) on the newer machines, and it should get even better with future versions of Logic.

  • Do I need Logic Pro 8.0.1 Update, and if so, how do I get it now?

Do I need Logic Pro 8.0.1 Update, and if so, how do I get it now?
    Tuesday, 2008-07-29
Due to prolonged illness, I purchased the Logic Studio Upgrade version (I already had Logic Pro 7.2.3, with dongle) only last week. Logic Studio Upgrade version initially installs Logic Pro version 8.0.0. I then dutifully set out to download both the Logic Pro 8.0.1 Update and the Logic Pro 8.0.2 Update.
As of this week, all attempts and maneuvers to simply get the Logic Pro 8.0.1 Update have failed. I cannot even find it, let alone download it!
Yes, I've tried the relabeling juggling act to fool Software Update into eventually listing and providing both the Logic Pro 8.0.1 Update and the Logic Pro 8.0.2 Update—but no luck, not any longer. These moves may have worked up until relatively recently, but they do not work now, at least as of this week.
All searching of Apple's site(s) and Support pages results in nada—Apple itself no longer lists any such file/dmg/download/update anywhere! All previous links are either dead or just dump one back on to the Logic Pro 8.0.2 Update page.
(In my many searches, I noted what seemed to me to be a majority of opinion that the Logic Pro 8.0.1 Update was a dog, especially in Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.2 or 10.5.3. Many users reported crashes, panics, and.or freezes. Is this why Apple has pulled the update and rendered it extinct?)
I Googled, I Asked Why, I Cuiled—but no Logic Pro 8.0.1 Update, except as that which lurked in the murky warez waters. Still, frustrated as I was, I did even try all such I could find . . . but no third party-hosted update worked at all.
I am concerned because in all my previous experience with Apple and its applications, ample information is made readily available about the contents of any update and an explanation of its relationship to previous updates. By this latter I mean: Apple indicates that update "x" incorporates the previous updates "u" and "v"; therefore one can proceed safely to install update "x" even if one missed updates "u" and "v" or for whatever reason did not install them.
So . . . do I need Logic Pro 8.0.1 Update, if I am then going to further update with the Logic Pro 8.0.2 Update? Does Logic Pro 8.0.2 Update incorporate the changes made in Logic Pro 8.0.1 Update? Will I be missing (critically?) something(s) in Logic Pro 8.0.1 Update if I in fact do not ever get it or install it? And how would I know? Apple has not only removed the update and all traces of it, but Apple has also removed all information about Logic Pro 8.0.1 Update—it is now literally as if it never existed.
So what's a po' boy to do? Logic Pro 8.0.1 Update cannot now be found on VersionTracker or MacUpdate or anywhere else. To date, no user group or organization or educational institution or program or audio-related company posted it or archived it.
Where/how can I get a copy of the Logic Pro 8.0.1 Update?
    If I can't, what do I do?
    If I can't, what do I miss?
And where is Apple's support for Logic Studio/Logic Pro in all of this?
    Earnestly hoping,
    j.

    Rodger,
Thank you for your gracious welcome . . .
and thank you for your swift response . . .
and thank you for your information (and encouragement!).
Yes, I read that too, but searched in vain for the specifity of, say, your direction:
"Go ahead and update to 8.0.2, as it contains the 8.0.1 update."
    So I shall!
    Again, many thanks.

  • Has anybody downloaded logic pro from the app store and how did it work thanks

has anybody downloaded logic pro from the app store and how did it work?
    thanks

I've recently upgraded my stuff with a Mac Mini Server and downloaded Logic from the app store with absolutely no problems at all. I'm on 10.7.3 with an i7 processor and 4Gb memory (yeah, may as well put another 4 in as well, I know).
Logic 9.1.6 is running very smoothly for me, but I think I'll go to 9.1.7 because there is a malfunction with time stretching regions in the Arrange window that the update's meant to fix.
A lot of your experience with downloading the additional content, apart from Logic itself, will depend on the speed of your internet connection, but the software handling of that aspect seems quite good - best to just load one lot of stuff at a time and see how it works out.

iWeb is no more available from Apple. You may  have to check Amzon for it.

Logic pro X 10.0.4 and EUCON problem - plug-ins name won't appear on the display of artist series
    I'm currently using mavericks , logic pro x 10.0.4 and eucon 3.0.1
There was a freezing  problem which is now resolved by clicking the prevent app nap in the info  on eucon app and all my most used apps.

Yes - it works exactly as it did in Logic 9 under ML - my problem under mavericks and pro X was sluggish updating of display - turned encoder on MC MIX and nothing happened imediately and names on MC MIX not updating properly.
I only changed app nap to off - ie ticked it on get info panel of the EUCON application and relaunched whole lot and it as worked prefectly since (fingers crossed etc)

    MacBookPro1,2   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Haven't heard of this problem before, but here's a suggestion that might work.
In your ~/Library/Preferences/Logic folder you should find a folder named 'PM Data.'
Perhaps if you dragged that folder to your desktop, your problem will disappear. Here's hoping…

  • Can I authorize Logic Pro on both my Laptop and Desktop Mac

I use my Macbook Pro for mobile recording using Logic Pro and I was wondering if I can authorize my Mac Pro desktop to use Logic Pro too? I purchased Logic Pro from the iTune store, so I don't have disks to install from.  Using the Desktop at my home studio is much more convenient then using the laptop.

Yes, just log into the mac store and it should appear under the Purchases tab and you can download it again.

  • Logic Pro X Audio cutting in and out

When I am trying to record in Logic Pro X the audio seems to cut in and out at random points.
I have a MP3 track that I am recording to and it just randomly cuts out. Even when just playing that track by itself the same thing happens though never at the same spots. If I open the MP3 in Itunes or Quicktime there is no problem with the track.
As this seriously messes with the time of the piece and makes the recording long and painful I need help.
Is there some type of connection I am missing? I am using an old Presonus Firebox as an Interface, it unfortunately has adaptors to take it from firewire to thunderbolt. Recording into a 27" Imac that is very souped up and shouldn't have any problems until I hit a hundred tracks or so and I am only trying two.

It's most likely the Fusion drive, one of the symptoms is audio cutting out.
There are several related threads in this forum regarding audio problems with the Fusion drive.
This thread alone would take a couple of days to read.

  • Logic Pro x - additional content downloads and installs but it won't show up in my Logic Pro X. Where is the add'l content downloaded and how do I activate on Logic Pro X?

The additional content downloads and installs, but it won't show up in my Logic Pro X. I cannot find the "Library" folder where this additional content is  downloaded to and can't seem to activate the new loops and instruments in my Logic Pro X (i.e. loops are still greyed out). Any solutions?

similar problem that I'm hoping revives this thread. Took over 24hrs to dload additional content (after another full day for the actual problem) due to a bad dload rate. so quitted, and relocated closer to my wifi router. Restart, open logic x, Menu bar:  Logic Pro/ Download Additional content ...Tells me i have no internet connection.... Ahh... I do, I'm using it right now! Tried restarting and relaunching. same thing every time.
    Any clues?
This whole apple upgrade has been so disappointing! All i wanted to do was reinstall logic 9! $2500 later and I'm still struggling. ***!

  • Why Does Logic Pro Repeatedly Asks for Serial # and XSKey When Started?

I've purchased and installed an upgrade to Logic Studio 9. I previously used Logic Pro 7 but did not have it installed on my MacBook Pro when I installed Logic Studio 9.
The installer asked for the Logic Studio 9 serial number which I entered and then prompted for the original serial or XSKey. I dug out the Logic 7 XSKey, plugged it in and it was accepted so I could continue with the installation which completed successfully.
    So far so good.
But now Logic Pro 9 asks for the serial number and XSKey every time I run Logic which isn't what I expect. I re-enter the new serial number and then plug in the XSKey which is accepted and the software runs as expected, but I would prefer not to have to do this every time I start the application, in particular because I don't want to carry the XSKey around with me at all times.
Why isn't Logic 9 storing my serial number? Why does it ask for the serial # and XSKey every time I start the application?
I'm not running Logic as an admin user. Could this be preventing Logic from storing the serial information?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had this when upgrading from 7 to 8. What I did was plugin the xskey BEFORE I started the upgrade and it never asked for a key or serial again after that.

  • Logic Pro does not start up and wants to activate trial

    Hi,
Today, somehow my Logic Pro 7 stopped running regualrely after working perfectely for over 2 years and some months on my new macbook.
I wanted to start up logic an hour or so ago, XS key plugged in aswell, and instead of starting, it stopped with loading buffer size and displays something like "klick here if you want to activate a trial before buying Logic".
I think this is kind of strange, because also neither my computer nor my key have been connected to the internet or so and so i have not done any upgrades for the software or so. I don't know if it is just on the macbook or if it won't run either on any other computer.
Did anybody ever come across this problem or did you hear about it and have advice for me??
    thanks in advance,
    Johannes

Ok, the problem seems indeed to be related with the XSkey.
Today I tried to run Logic Pro on another Computer with my XSkey, but it neither works there.
Logic asks me if I want to try it out for a limited amount of time before buying it, but It is a bought Version already...
The problem at the moment is that I will need Logic next week and I don't see a way to get it running, although the macs it occured with were not my Powermac at home I'm gonna use then.
Just, I read something about XSkeyupdater on a link List in this Forum or so, so could this maybe be something that could help???
So, if somebody got an answer to my problem pls tell me.
    Kind regards,
    Johannes
