  • Logic Pro 9 training

Interested in opinions in Logic Pro 9 training. I am currently working through Macprovideo tutorial- quite good actually. But want more to be proficient and fun tonal on a pro level. Have run across pyramind.com course for $500 that will help you get the basic certification. Does anyone have any experience in this endeavor?
I am more interested in the training than the certification, but is the certification worth anything as a credential?

Keep up the Macprovideo stuff, Groove3 also do good training.
    +1 with Dubspot.
To be honest, the pyramid course looks basic and you could get all this training and more from the first 2 suggestions. And save $$$
Just keep making songs, thats honestly the best way to learn. If you find it difficult writing material then do a cover version. Just don't watch endless videos without making some actual music.
As for certification, it all depends on the job you are after. But most guys I know in the industry built a reputation by producing tracks or recording other artists.
You can never beat experience and thats why making song after song after song is the best advice.
    Good luck!

  • Logic Pro 8 Training

I've been keeping an eye out for Logic Pro 8 training, but so far I haven't seen anything. Any recommendations?
Related question: I've had the Apple book Advanced Logic Pro 7 for awhile which but never got around to reading it. However, I've heard that the Logic Pro 8 user interface is a complete makeover. Is it worth dusting off the Logic Pro 7 book, or will that just be confusing?

they are in the process of redoing all of the LP7 stuff to LP8

Yes.. but you also have to update OS X to 10.8.4 or higher....

  • Logic Pro X - External Video

External video (for example Firewire Video Output or Blackmagic Support) was broken in Logic 9 64bit, but working in 32bit. I assumed that it would be fixed in LX - but it appears to have been removed entirely. Is this correct? If so... then... hm. Not sure where I go, now.

Er hem.  No it's not more flexible in a studio environment where you are outputting HD video to an external display via a Blackmagic decklink or Intenstiy etc. My second and third monitors are for other duties and aren't easy for the client to watch in any case.
Logic 9 (32bit) supported external solutions. So this is a giant leap backwards. As I mentioned, FCPX has an AV out option which should have been bolted onto Logic.

  • How can I move ALL Logic Pro Files (except for the app itself) to an external?

    Hi,
So I'm looking to move all my Logic content to my external hard drive and still be able to use the program effectively and efficiently.
I have about 5 years worth of content (adding up to over 100 GB of data in audio/instrument/project files) and I think it's time to find an alternative to suffocating my internal hard drive.
I'm looking for the easiest way to move all my content to my external and delete it from my internal (without altering the location of the app itself).
I understand "managing project assets", but this method requires me to open EVERY project one by one and change the location settings. I'm basically trying to find a way to move every project and its appropriate audio files to my external so that I can open them from there without having to go through each project one by one... I tried just copying and pasting the entire "Logic" folder onto the external and then deleted it from my internal, but when I attempted to open a project from my external's copied file, none of the content was found because the original locations of the internal were still embedded in the project. Also, none of the software instruments could be found because they, too, were originally located on the internal drive. Luckily I backed up my hard drive beforehand, so a simple restore brought me back to sanity.
I understand managing the project assets, but is going one project by one project at a time really the only way? There's gotta be another way :/
Thanks for any and all help.
P.S. I'm still on the Logic Pro 9 train, but that shouldn't matter too much. (hopefully)

  • Logic pro 8 missing files

    Hey all,
Seems like a lot of knowledge floating around these forums.  How grateful I am to have access to such a great community!  I have a quick question:
I just migrated from a macbook pro to an iMac.  When setting up, using my external drive, my iMac attempted to migrate (hopefully I'm not using that term incorrectly) all my old apps over - including Logic 8.  Problem is, some stuff is missing.  So far, the only thing I've noticed (it's only been about a week, I haven't been using the program extensively) is that some instruments etc cannot be located.  To try and solve this, I dragged and dropped all the jam packs I have from the external drive onto my hard disk, and even put them in Logic's folder.  However, the program is still unable to locate these instruments, and even when the external drive is on, it doesn't load the instrument - it just indicates that the instrument is somewhere on the external drive.
I figured tomorrow I would just drag drop logic (my iMac has hardly much else on it) to the recycle bin and reinstall from scratch.  However, I'm not sure if this is necessary.  If I put the disks in, will it make duplicates (thereby wasting storage space) or would it selectively install whatever isn't already found on my iMac?  I've seen an extensive list of files I would need to delete, and can do this (provided they all made it onto my iMac.
I was just wondering what would be the, obviously, quickest way to remedy these missing files.  I'm still really inexperienced, as this is only my second mac computer, and the first one I've tried to bring old files/programs on to from my old computer.
    Thanks for any suggestions!

Since you have the Logic Pro DVD's, I would just reinstall it on your iMac.However, if you want to see if there is another option that would work with Logic Pro, you might post your question in the Logic Pro dicussion here.

  • Logic Pro X performance difference between iMac i7 3.5ghz (non-Retina) and the i7 4.0 ghz (Retina)?

Hello - on the verge of getting an iMac - it's for Logic Pro and some video editing with Premiere Pro (don't *really* need the Retina screen though) - i'd just like to get an idea of the performance difference (especially in Logic Pro X) between the quad i7 3.5ghz (non-retina) and the quad i7 4.0ghz (retina)?
I use loads of plugin instruments (incl. big Kontakt libraries) and effects with just a few audio tracks (only ever record max a couple of audio tracks at a time)
    Thanks!

I owned the imac and then returned it for the 2.6 MacBook Pro. After using both there is a noticeable speed difference between the 2. Not a huge difference but there is certainly more lag using the MacBook Pro. I found that lots of the lag went away when I attached to an external display though. At the end of the day I think you just need to decide if you need the portability or not. At first I thought I would keep the imac and then get a cheap MacBook Pro to use on the road but the thought of having multiple Lightroom catalogs sounds very annoying to me. Plus all the transferring back and forth. I will say also that I've been getting a lot of freezes in Photoshop on my mbp and weird errors like the sleep wake failure error some people are talking about when connected to a USB device. I didn't have any of these problems with the imac

  • Free video tutorials for logic pro 8?

I recently purchased logic studio.I remember reading somewhere on the apple website that there were free video tutorials available for logic studio from the apple website. But I cant seem to find them anywhere.Does anyone know about this or how to access them.Thanks.

Hi Kilmar. Don't know about the apple site, but as others have replied macprovideo.com have an excellent range. There are free downloadedable examples and some to watch on their site. The tutorials that come with V8 are only song files; not actual tutorials. I was looking for them too! There are also a couple of books from Apple pro training. Logic Pro 8 and Logic express 8 by David Nahmani. Also Logic Pro 8 Beyond the basics by David Dvorin. Both come with a DVD with 30 day version of expres and work files to go with the various topics described. I've got the Version 7 books and they are excellent. Version 8 won't be published until end of OCt and 1st week Nov in the US. In Australia, where I live, not until Feb 2008. {boring!] but they are available from US publishers. Let me know if you want more info. Hope this helps. Scorpii.

  • Can i install logic pro without the cd because my dvd driver of my mac doesn't work . i have the key for logic pro

can i install logic pro without cd ? , i have the key for the logic pro but my dvd driver of my mac doesnt work ?

Buy an external USB2 DVD/CD drive..... (Amazon's Basic model works great)
    Or..
Borrow someone else's Mac that has a DVD drive fitted and use that via Remote Disk
    Note:
There is no legal means of downloading available for Logic Pro 9.. unless you originally purchased it via the App Store..
Therefore, in your case, you must install from the DVDs you have...

  • How do I get a video track in Logic Pro 9?

I'm trying to sync a video I have recorded in Photo Booth with the music I recorded via my mixer into Logic Pro 9.
I have tried dragging the video into Logic and it only gives me options like bring in the audio (also another issue is that the audio has a locked symbol and won't let me drag it to the beginning).
The video does not show up in a track, it does appear at the very far left but if I try to play it, it is just a couple of frames juddering over and over again. I have also tried opening the video in Quicktime and saving as a .m4v instead of a .mov and dragging in to Logic but this did not work either. I have also tried the Open Movie option under the File menu instead of dragging but this doesn't work either.
I can do this easily in Garageband, but I cant save in Logic as a .band file. I have looked for instruction videos on Youtube but those videos start with the video automatically showing in a track. I have looked under Global Tracks but it still does not show. What can I do to get this to work?
    Thanks.

No, you do not need to change it back, "Settings" are not global, they're per project. "Preferences" are Global and affect all projects.
Logic defaults to a "standard" 1 hour SMPTE preset, personally I think it's more confusing since more users are not professional (ie: experienced) so they don't realize why the video isn't showing.
You need to read the manual regarding video, unless you use the manual to it's best advantage you will only end up using a few percent of Logic's features..
    http://help.apple.com/logicpro/mac/9.1.6/en/logicpro/usermanual/
The Mantra is.... Logic is not Garageband, GB is user friendly with far less options, Logic is professional software and expects the user to up their game. (a good thing, imho)

  • HT4561 I have an iMac (2.66Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo) and recently updated to OSX10.6.8. At first things worked as before, but suddenly a bunch of applications are not working; including videos wont play in any browser, plus Skype and Logic Pro won't work

Recently updated to osx10.6.8. Was fine at first, but now have problems with various applications freezing/hanging.
These include Skype and Logic Pro.
In addition, cannot play videos (including YouTube and BBC) on Firefox (my usual browser), Safari or Chrome.
Application becomes frozen, and I eventually get an 'unresponsive script' message.
With Firefox I have tried clearing the cache. My Flash is upto date.
These are all the apps I use everyday, and this is driving me crazy. Can't seem to find answers on line. Very grateful for any help or advice.

Please download this app ... etrecheck, run it, copy or paste the results and post them back to us here.
From that we may be able to see more background to your problem.   Be assured, it is safe.

  • Do you recommend me "Learning Oracle 11g Training DVD - Tutorial Video"?

    Hi
I found on Amazon "Learning Oracle 11g Training DVD - Tutorial Video by InfiniteSkills". Is it worth it? There are no Amazon reviews :-(
Do you use other video training? What do you recommend me?

I don't know if the video is any good, but Lewis Cunningham is a reasonably well-known authority on Oracle. He talks about the release of the video in his blog, gives a table of contents and a link to some samples:

  • Playing DVDs in 5.1 With Firewire Audio Interface Connected for Logic Pro

This is exactly the same q as asked by plantwebguy in July 06, link
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=2696970#2696970...
I'm struggling to get an answer on this anywhere... I have Logic Pro running 5.1 Surround Mixes on a g5, using a Metric Halo Mobile IO Firewire audio interface - its 6 analog outs are connected to a M Audio LX4 powered surround system. It all works great - until... the problem is when I need to listen to DVDs with 5.1 soundtracks (for reference), or even HD trailers (with 5.1 soundtracks). With the Mobile IO selected as audio interface, DVDs only play in stereo. I think this is because the 5.1 soundtrack is only output thru the optical out - but connecting the optical out to the Mobile IO and selecting 'Digital out' on the g5 brings silence.. Im told this is because the MIO's optical in wont decode 5.1. I'm interested to hear from anyone with a Pro Audio interface - like a MOTU etc - who needs to switch between mixing their own music in 5.1 and then listening to DVDs in 5.1.. I cant be the first, surely?
Plantwebguy said he solved his issue with VLC. Do we know if VLC willl decode 5.1 and then output it to the Interface via Firewire? I've searched the net for a Pro Audio interface with (1) 6 analog outs & mic inputs etc (2) firewire connection and (3) optical in that reads AC3/5.1 etc (rather than just ADAT).... nada. Sorry to be long-winded but I cant get a solution anywhere..
    Thanks in advance
