Logic Pro Fans are louder just by opening Logic on quad core MBP

I have the latest logic pro running on a new Quad core macbook pro. I migrated logic from my previous dual core machine to preserve all the preferences and plugins etc...
When I startup logic, without loading anything at all the fans start to get louder...
Is this normal?
Could it be a glitch from importing logic from the old machine?
Any suggestions would be great.
Thanks.

I have just checked Logic CPU usage and it says its only using 2.9%, yet the fans still go crazy...

  • Fans are loud what should I replace them with and how?

Just like the subject says my fans on my power mac g5 seem to be a bit on the obnoxious loud side. Was this just with the early G5 models? Anyways I wanted to know if it would do me any good to by different fans for it. If so which fans do you recommend? How easy is it to to put onto the computer?
    -jim

I think pretty much all the fans are custom made for Apple, at least that's what they look like - not at all like the typical PC fans...
Which fans are loud? You could use Hardware Monitor to show how fast they spin - and compare to these numbers of other G5 owners. Which model do you have anyway?
(Check in /Applications/Utilities/System Profiler -> Hardware Overview)
And which graphics card is installed? Cause its fan might be loud (if it has one - the default cards usually don't) - it was in my case (currently Geforce 7800 GT) as well as with my earlier G5 (dual 2.0 GHz, 2003 model, with CTO Radeon 9800 Pro 128 MB). The video card fan is replaceable if one has some experience. The rest of the G5's fans are more difficult. If a particular fan is bad, you might be able to get a replacement for it as a service part, from some mac dealer in your vicinity.
It may also help to carefully vacuum the huge heatsink on the G5 processors and air outlets in the back. The G5 must be off of course, and don't touch or even go close to the RAM or Mobo, as the vacuum machine might be electrostatically charged.

  • MacBook Pro fans are deafd

    Hi all.
After some unexpected shutdowns, I discovered that my MacBook Pro fans are both dead. iStat Pro shows them always at 0rpm and after some hardware testing with Tiger DVD I get the error code that fans are broken.
When MacBook Pro gets too hot it just shuts down so I wanted to repair it but I'd like to know an aproximate cost. Apple shops here in Barcelona (Spain) say they first want to ckech the laptop out (paying, of course) but i don't know if two broken fans can imply a motherboard change or whatever that can be expensive or worth it.
Any idea of an aproximate cost?
    Thanks.
    R.-

You should have it checked out by an authorized service provider to make sure nothing else is wrong. Better to be safe than sorry.

  • My Early 2015 MacBook Pro fans are at 0 RPM and my cpu temperature never fluctuates

Hello all I have had a Mid 2009 macbook pro for 5 years now and just got my Early 2015 MacBook Pro.  On my old macbook i used iStat and SMC fan controller religiously and everything worked great.
Now with my new Early 2015 MacBook Pro, My CPU sensor doesn't even show up in iStat, and in my top toolbar, SMC controller shows my CPU temp never moves, and my fans are at 0 RPM. I cannot hear any fans moving at all when in a completely silent room, and my ear is to the computer.
I downloaded a game to stress the CPU to see if it'd change, and it doesn't all the way up to the fans just coming on at 6000RPM and the CPU is very high like 80-90C
I have already reset my PRAM and SMC and was wondering if anyone here has been monitoring their temps and have seen the same thing?
    Thanks

I also have an Early 2015 rMBP w/ i5-5287U cpu.  I am using Temperature Gauge from the Mac App Store and getting similar if not slightly worse results.  I'm usually Idling somewhere between 45 and 60 C with almost no activity.  When I run games, forget about it (see below), temps up to 103 Celsius.  I also experience almost no fans until at least 70 C, and then during gaming the heat is not coming down.
Given that the cpu is supposed to shut itself down at around 105 C, I'm thinking that the programs are not decoding the temperature sensors correctly.  This is my first Mac so it's hard for me to compare performance.  I expected better heat regulation.  I was trying to avoid programs outside of the mac store for this type of thing, but I'm considering OGELTHORPE's suggestion for istat menus, as they do claim to support early 2015 MacBooks.  Have you tried this program yet?

  • Fans are loud

is there a patch or an update or anything that will make the iMac's fans run quieter the nearest apple store is about 1hr &30min and it's only 3 months old. Any help is appriciated

update the firmware? I don't know if that'll work, but I do kno that Mac OS X's Software Update doesn't check for out-of-date firmware.
Your fan might be too loud for 3 reasons:
    1. You're running your iMac to the max! If you're pushing it to the limit, then the wires and stuff inside get hotter, therefore needs a louder fan that'll provide more heat dissapation.
    2. Defective iMac. Maybe you're unlucky, and got an iMac with an unusually loud fan.
    3. I don't know. Maybe another perfectly logical reason for loud iMac fans that I don't know of. What I do know is that my iMac intel core duo fan is very quiet, but consider that my previous mac was an ancient G4, with a fan 1000000x louder!
Of course, I could be wrong. But one thing I'm sure of is if you have any warranty, you should make the best of it b4 it runs out.
    Hope this helped
    peace

  • HT1270 Will  a Mid 2011 15" 17 core macbook pro run on 2 8GB 1666mhz memory? Told quad core MB Pro runs on 16GB at 1066 or 1666???

I have a what is said mid 2011 macbook pro quad core i7 with 4GB at 1333 Mhz, and read this is upgradeable to 8GB but also it will accept and run great on 2X8GB-16GB at either 1066 or 1666MHz-Can anyone shed light? I'm hoping fpor fastest I can get-I use as interface for recording and for photo work now and then. I usually put a 7200rpm HDD in but this came w/a 750GB/5400 and I wonder if the FSB/RAM speed and upgrading the RAM max will make up?
I'm thinking rather than always use ext 7200rpm hdd top record buy 2nd hdd at 7200 and use external open enclosure I can pop in and out use only for recording-I am starting back to school and have MS2011 Ofc but want to add Win 7 no virtual hdd's please, second question-can I add this w/o wiping all clean to reformat? Is this required to add partition for Win 7 or are these newer models designed to simply ADD-ON such MS software?
DO I EVEN NEED WIN 7 OR IS THIS A LUXURY? I would think my WORD, EXCEL, POWERPOINT is all I'll need for college classes requiring MS/Windows-am I correrct? I can eliminate problem #2.
MAINLY I WANT TP UPGRADE RAM-I FOUND CORSAIR MADE FOR THIS MODEL, 2X8GBAT 1666MHZ, AND A WEB PAGE THAT SAID THEY HAD A FLAWLESS UPGRADE AND IT RA EVEN FASTER AND SMOOTHER-This is the best Mac I've owned and I've had 100, including 27" iMac I sold-too much for my needs-I'm a prtable person-HELP!!! I get YES answers from my IT professional and others tell me only *GB at 1333, so WHICH?  Thanks, madthomii.

    Hey,
    Perhaps this is relevant ..........
    (1) I have a very late 17" macbook Pro.  (It is actually the somewhat rare 2.5 quad model.)  One of the very last ones made.
    (2) It comes with 1333 ram
    (3) I swapped in 1600 ram
    (4) IT IS ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN, THAT, THE MACHINE RUNS MUCH, MUCH, MUCH, MUCH, MUCH FASTER when you have 1600 speed ram.
(Indeed, it runs 1600 / 1333 = 1.20x faster on all memory operations - it's just that simple and obvious.)
I did many tests back-and-fore swapping the slow and fast ram, and it is very, very obvious, the speed difference.  Most operations on computers are just memory bound - everything from startup to rendering and the like is quicker - obviously and clearly quicker - with faster ram.
    (5) I have had utterly no problems running the faster ram. It reports and runs the ram utterly normally, no problem.
    (6) These machines cost thousands, and ram cost a few dollars - there seems very little reason you wouldn't do this.
    (7) I do have one of the very last 17" mbp.  (It was "old new stock" - I bought it unused in March 2013.)  So, it's possible that OLDER 17" mbp will not run 1600 speed RAM.  But, I mean it costs like $100 to try, on a fantastic machine worth $1000s, so it's a huge win at low cost if it works.
I hope this helps future readers!!!  Cheers

  • Fans are Loud, Ran a Hardware Test Error Message Ensued

    I just replaced the power supply on my Aluminum iMac 24 inch, this is a result of not being covered by apple care and it running out of warranty just a few months ago. After starting up i noticed the fans were considerably louder than normal, i opened it AGAIN to see if anything was causing any friction, and to my dismay i found nothing. I ran a hardware test and came up with an Error code;
    4SNS/1/4000000:TLOP
can anyone decipher or tell me what this error code is? I'd like to figure this out, I'm guessing i may have missed or damaged a connection to a temp sensor?

Hi and Welcome to Apple Discussions ...
If you haven't tried it, reset the SMC. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1806
Reset the PRAM and NVRAM. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
No idea what that file is... Google doesn't either unfortunately. If the above suggestions don't work, it's time to take the iMac in for service.

  • Macbook pro fan making loud noises and going really fast. Now the fan doesn't work at all and my computer gets extremely hot almost instantly. Is there a way to fix it without having to pay a ton of money to have someone fix it for me?

I've had my Macbook pro for about 3 1/2 years now. It has worked great until recently. A few months ago I noticed that the fan would always run really fast when I was doing simple tasks. After a few weeks/months, the fan was still really fast but it also started to make these loud noises. Now, it only occasionally makes the loud noise if I move my computer after its been stationary for a while. The fan no longer works at all and my computer gets exceptionally hot almost instantly when I turn it on. Is there a way to fix this problem without having to pay a ton of money to have someone fix it for me?

  • Retina MacBook Pro fan very loud and usb mouse disconnecting when restarting the computer

2 days ago, I got a brand new retina MacBook Pro 13 inch with the specs 2.8 GhZ i7, 8 gigs of ram and 512gb ssd. It should definitely be functioning properly since it's a really expensive computer, but I already noticed a few problems that I hope you can  help me with.
So first of all, when I play World of Warcraft, the fan seems to go up to 6000rpm and is very loud. I checked the activity monitor and it says WoW is using about 60% CPU, so it shouldn't have to be that loud. I also installed smcfancontrol, but it doesn't seem to lower the speed of the fan.
I ran an apple diagnostics test and it couldn't find any problems, and I also tried resetting my smc, but the fan is still going very loud.
And the second problem I have is, that when I have my mouse usb connected to my Mac, and I restart it, it can't detect the mouse anymore. So I'd have to pull out the usb plug and put it back in everytime I turn on my computer. isn't it supposed to automatically connect to my mouse when it's already plugged in?

    Matt,
Try reading this, then go to the section on Resetting the SMC for a Macbook Pro with a battery you should not remove.

  • Got my GS30. Fans are loud =(

    Hi,
    New to forum, first post.
Got the GS30 with the gaming dock today (released early in Sweden for some reason, dont know why).
Anyway I was planning to make a full review but now I'm contemplating sending it back instead and dont want to unpack more than necessary.
The reason I want to resend is that the idle fan is annoyingly high. With the computer just sitting beside me doing nothing the fan keep going on and off. The first level is OK but it often reaches second level which is really annoying and every once in a while it goes to 3rd gear and scares the cat... The CPU temp reached 75C at IDLE, that is just not good enough.
The fan-speed is not adjustable in bios or with any included software. I think it could work if the fan was constantly running at a really low speed but as it is set up now it's really disturbing.
I bought the GS30 because I saw it as the best of two worlds. A really powerful ultrabook for work and then a really nice gaming rig for home. I dont want to have a separate comp at home for gaming and I want a portable, silent and fast computer for work.
I will decide in the weekend weither to resend, if anyone has any tips on what can be done about the fan that would be really awsome. (or if MSI has planned to update BIOS or sumthin).
If I do end up keeping the rig I'll unpack and make a review.
Some quick impressions of the laptop itself:
    * really nice keyboard
    * nice build quality overall IMO
    * diodes on the front looks nice but is nothing for the office, hoping that it is adjustable
    * I like the screen (but Im not really picky in that regard)
    Ok.

Wow... You have it already?! nice! I am kinda envy you here
what about sharing some testing pictures or snapshots with us?
It would be appreciated if you do it, thank you very much!

this happens when the browser opens websites in tabs after a period of time, i dont know how the Hang occurs but FF4 is not secure enough for me, so i downgraded to FF3.6 just for stability.

  • HT1338 just bought a 27" iMac quad core i5 and when I try to install Logic 8 it tells me that its not supported by power mac

Just bought a 2011 imac 27" to upgrade from my MacBookPro 17" to run Logic 8, but when I try to install Logic 8 on the new Mac I disappointingly get a message to say that the application is not supported on power mac, that cannot be right, or can it. If so what do I need to do to get it to install?

Logic 8 has a "bug" in its installer program that makes a newer Mac (Lion, and thereafter) think that it is PowerPC, but it is not PowerPC.
Try using Pacifist to install Logic 8 in Mavericks:
    http://www.charlessoft.com/
If you cannot get Pacifist to work, you can partition your hard drive and install Snow Leopard into that new partition, install Logic 8 and then upgrade to Mavericks.
As Barney correctly points out, the 2011 iMacs require a minimum of 10.6.6 to boot, so that you need to install Snow Leopard with one of these three options:
    1)  As Barney points out, the original grey Restore DVD that came with that iMac (or a replacement provided by Apple if you call with your model and serial number);
    2)  The slipstreamed version of the Mac OS X Snow Leopard Install DVD at 10.6.7; or
    3)  Install Snow Leopard on a new partition on another older Mac, update it to 10.6.8 and then clone the partition and move the cloned partition over to your 2011 iMac.
