Logic pro, Kontakt 2 and keystation pro

When I use an 'instrument bank' in Kontakt 2, I want to controll the different cells (patches) with the buttons B46 to B51 from my M-Audio keystation pro. In Cubase this happens automatically; but what to change in Logic pro to become that result? Now, pressing those buttons in Logic don't change the patches ...
thank you for helping
Dirk

I've forgotten: The recording is ok with FCP

  • LOgic Pro X and Kontakt Player 5

    hello !
anyone having CPU spikes while using Kontakt Player 5 ( latest version ) and Logic Pro X ( latest version ) ?
I'm on OSX Mountain Lion 10.8.5
I read on the Vi-Control forum that the new Kontakt player doesn't work well on Mountain Lion but would works better on Maverick.. which i find odd .
The CPU spikes prevent playback and I need to re-initialize CoreAudio from the audio preferences in Logic Pro X.
Once it's re-initialize , then i can get playback .. until I quit Logic .. then I need to go through this when Logic is re-booted
    thanks for your time !

Both current version of K5 Player and the full K5 itself (v5.3.0) have basically the same spiking issue in both 10.8 and 10.9 at this time... and under various DAWs, not just Logic... I've found there is very little difference in terms of this spiking issue between the two OS X versions...
NI are aware of this issue and are, apparently, working on a fix...
However, as a work around and you found out yourself...  you can just re-initialize your CoreAudio from within Logic and that usually fixes it for a lengthy period of time... or until you restart Logic...

  • Logic Pro 8, Kontakt 2.23 & Memory usage

    Hello -
*What type of known memory problems might exist between Logic (Logic 8 in particular) and either Kontakt 2.23 or Kontakt Player 2.23??*
*If there are known memory usage issues, what can be done to help/fix the situation??*
My computer set up is listed below. I have not upgraded to Leopard (but did upgrade to Logic Pro 8). By-in-large, Logic Pro 8 works fine. However, I usually "network" the Logic sequencing projects with Muse Research's Receptor (version B) and/or an aging Dell Precision Workstation 650 using Musiclab's MIDIoverLan CP3. This has proven stable for me. For my most recent project, I decided to see how many instrument plug-ins I can utilize within the Logic Pro 8 program (without benefit of this "network" set-up). For this project, I'm using one instance of MusicLab's RealGuitar and 16 instances of +*Kontakt Player version 2.23*+ for a total of 17 instrumental tracks. The instrument libraries used are Garritan's GPO and JABB. With this many individual (not multi) track instances used, the activity monitor is showing high RAM usage. For some of the instruments, I could not use the KS choices (trumpet, trombone) because the extra RAM caused Logic to crash as I mounted more instruments.
I tried adjusting the DFD. Still, there remained high RAM usage and the occasional crash. For some of the crashes, I either got the endless colored spinning wheel or a message basically stating that there was no memory available for the DFD. I am no expert with the advanced workings of Logic and the DFD associated with the Kontakt plug-ins. But I am surprised that using just 17 instrument tracks with this newer Mac Pro computer (with 5 GBs RAM) is causing problems. Sadly, I am not an expert Apple user to be able to tell whether it's the computer or Logic or Kontakt. I suspect, though, its some kind of issue between Kontakt and Logic.
For my audio, I use MOTU's 2408 MK3. For my midi in-put I use M-Audio's Keystation Pro 88. I do not think either one of these devices are causing the apparent memory problems.
By the way. . . before I purchased my newer MacPro computer, I had a similar instrumental set-up using my aging Dell Precision 650 workstation with 2 GB of RAM using Steinberg's SX 3 program. I used the same GPO and JABB sound libraries. It did "challange" the Dell computer (I had to adjust buffer/latency settings to MOTU's 828 MK2 used with the Dell computer), but the computer didn't crash like what I'm experiencing at present.
I don't mind "networking" my computers together in order to use larger instrumental plug-in tracks. But I would think that given the "power" of my newer MacPro I should be able to handle more than 17 GPO & JABB tracks. Yes? No?
*Given my current computer set-up, how many instrumental tracks (using libraries associated with Kontakt or the Kontakt Player) should I get??*
    Thank you in advance.
    Ted

Sadly, I can chime in with the same basic problem. Namely, that
Kontakt2 seems to leak ram. I've watched the activity monitor show
an increase in ram allocation to logic if i simply LOOK at a kontakt
instance. Just clicking on the instance causes ram to be allocated, and no matter how much I purge samples, I just can't retrieve that ram. Once 2 gigs are sent to logic, crash.
The only solution I've found is to save & restart before it climbs too high. I can then work for an hour or so until the ram overflows again. This is obviously a major bug, and I agree that Logic doesn't appear to be the culprit.
Have either of you tried K3? I wonder if the problem is more under control there? There's no way Kontakt will bother to fix this bug
in v2.23 with v3 on the shelves. The question is, how do we know that v3 fixes it without buying it? I've heard reports that v3 is even
    more bloated than v2.
I've recently done a clean install of leopard on a blank drive, and
i'm patiently waiting until NI updates the installers for K2.
Then, i'll have a clean OS, clean newly installed logic 8, and
a cleanly installed K2. Maybe that will help mitigate, if not solve the problem.
I'm almost sure that Kontakt is the source of the problem, but
I've also been told that Intels have serious flaws in their ram
    allocation WITH TIGER.
Some people with G5's have reported having access to 3.5 gigs ram.
Intells can only use 2 gigs with any one app. This was thought to be a problem with Tiger and and Intels. So maybe Leopard will expand the RAM wallet, and then we just have to wait for Kontakt to stop spending so much.

  • GPO and RA plug-ins not working in Logic Pro 8.0.2

I have installed RA and GPO on my Mac Book Pro. When I open Logic Pro they are not appearing in the Plug-in list. Kontakt 2 is but won't let me load individual instruments for GPO. The strange thing is I also have a copy of Logic Express and both RA and GPO work fine here (even though they don't pass the AU validation). They also work as stand alones fine. In Logic Pro, RA and GPO do not appear in the AU validation list. Can anyone help? I have all the latest updates as far as I am aware. It's very annoying!

There's no Auval or RA or Garritan Personal Orchestra in the Audio Units Manager in Logic Pro. Though Stylus RMX that I also use and Kontakt Player 2 are there and successfully validated. The RA and Kontakt Player component are exactly in the place you said they would be.
I've since discovered that RA does not in fact work in Logic Express. As for whether it's loading up in Rosetta or PPC version - how do I tell that?
I really appreciate your help but I'm still stuck at square 1. Any more suggestions?!!

  • Logic Pro 9 freezing and crashing at startup

    I'm running Logic Pro 9.1.5 on a MBP 15 " Mac OS X 10.6.8.
It's been working perfectly for almoust a year until a couple of days ago when it suddenly crashed. After that I've been unable to run Logic Pro at all. As soon as the session has opened the screen flashes white and you're not able to do anything. Not even open the Logic menues. The only thing that you can do is to move around the open plugins windows. At first it the report said that it was something wrong with my Native Instruments Kontakt 4 plugin. But even sessions not using that plugin is unable to load. I've tried to open Logic in all three troubleshooting modes but with no success. And I've tried to remove my au plugins form my component folder, but nothing works.
Does anyone have experience of the same problem or even a solution to this? I would be more than grateful, because I have an important deadline coming up and need to finish my mix soon.
    Thanks!

  • How to save kontakt sample files in Logic Pro X project?

    Hi,
I'm using Kontakt (Komplete, Native Instruments) as my samples for my midi in Logic Pro X, and my sample libraries are stored in an external hard drive which I bring around.
I need to send my Logic file over to another computer which will not have my hard drive that contains my sample libraries.
Is there a way to save my Kontakt Sample midi files together with Logic's folder, so when I open Logic without my ext Hard Drive, the midi can still be read?
I tried clicking Save As --> Organize my project as a "Folder", and ticked EVERYTHING --- Audio Files, EXS instruments and samples, Ultrabeat samples, Space Designer impulse responses, Movie file, Include Apple Sound Library Content.
But when I unplugged my external hard drive (which my sample files are stored), and clicked open that logic file which i saved, windows pop up saying it cannot locate my samples.
Is this a bug in Logic Pro X, or am I doing something wrong?
Or is it totally not possible to copy sample files over?

    Hi
Logic will not copy over any 3rd party samples etc. If you really need to, you would need to copy the appropriate libraries manually, though with Kontakt, some libraries would need to be re-authorised.

My logic pro x bounces o.k (with the mini mac that i use), but it can not bounce well when i creat a project that uses the kontakt 5 instruments
    why?
    thanks

    Hi
You can check the version numbers various ways:
Open Logic Pro X:Preferences:Audio Units Manager:  This lists all AU plugins and their versions
Open Kontakt, click the NI logo top right: the version is displayed top left of the splash screen

    Hi
Assuming that you are looking for Kontakt Player in the right place (Click hold the I/O slot on an instrument channel), and it is not there???
Go to Logic Pro:Preferences:Audio Unit Manager, and see if it is listed in there
Make sure you have installed the latest version of KP

  • Logic pro 9 on mavericks: problems with kontakt instrument Drumlab

    Hello!
I purchased drumlab on september 2013. It worked properly on my macbook (late 2009, with expanded 8GB ram) with logic pro 9 and kontakt free player 5. Unfortunately, after a few days my macbook suddenly broke.
Now I have a new macbook pro (2.4GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor, 8GB ram, 256GB PCIe-based flash storage) and I downloaded and installed again logic pro 9.1.8, kontakt free player (5.0.1.5371) and drumlab (from my "order history page"). Everything is working (even other kontakt instruments) but not drumlab. When I try to load the drumlab instrument in kontakt the message "THIS PATCH WAS CREATED WITH A NEWER VERSION OF THE APPLICATION etc." appears.
I don't think it's a problem of compatibility (these are the latest versions of the applications).
I tried to do what they suggest here http://www.native-instruments.com/knowledge/questions/346/KONTAKT+Error+Message% 3A+%22This+patch+was+created+with+a+newer+version+of+Kontakt%22, but it doesn't solve the problem. Really hope someone could help me with that!
    Many thanks!!

You need to update your Kontakt Player to the latest version which is v5.3.0.. The one you are using (5.0.1) is at least 9 months out of date... which is why you are having such an issue....

  • Logic Pro slower on 2011 MBP than 2008 MacBook? Especially with NI Kontakt

Hi I just got a new MacBook Pro, late 2011 model, and I was really stoked but I've come to find Logic Pro runs slower in general than on my old MacBook (not pro, mid-2008 model).  I know the MBP is a faster computer but I can't figure out why Logic is so slow and I was wondering if you guys could help me out with some optimization or answers.  The main issue lies in Kontakt, which I was able to run far more instances of on my old macbook than my new MBP.  I frequently get system overload despite having more cores on the CPU and the same memory.
    Below are the differences:
    2011 MBP (stock)
    Logic Pro 9.1.6 64-bit
    NI Kontakt 5 (4-8 instances)
NI Pro-53 (2-3 instances) through 32-bit AU bridge
NI Massive through 32-bit AU bridge
2008 MB (stock, except 4GB memory upgrade)
    Logic Pro 9.1.0 (32-bit)
NI Kontakt 4 (8+ instances no problem)
    NI Massive (2-6) instances

I'd also add that when running large native instrument sample libraries, they advise (in the start up guide) to install large sample libraries on a dedicated hard drive. If you have a FireWire 400/800 drive, it might be worth it to install kontakts huge library on there and see if that frees up some CPU. Trying to run logic / the plugin applications, the sample libraries and your recorded audio/logic files on one drive will severely hurt your CPU performance.
I know is doesn't really answer why you'd be faster/more stable on your old Mac, but might help you get the most out of your new machine.
    Cheers!

  • Recording Kontakt through Logic Pro x?

I want to record Kontakt 5 instruments through Logic Pro X, but the Setting and Instrument buttons are not showing in the Inspector. In all the tutorials that I have seen, you click the Instrument button in the Inspector and select Kontakt as you instrument. Is there a setting in Logic to show these buttons? I am using Kontakt 5 Player right now, do I have to have the full version for it to work? I used to do this with Garageband all the time. And also, I am a hardcore noob, so simple terms are much appreciated!!

  • Logic Pro X performance difference between iMac i7 3.5ghz (non-Retina) and the i7 4.0 ghz (Retina)?

Hello - on the verge of getting an iMac - it's for Logic Pro and some video editing with Premiere Pro (don't *really* need the Retina screen though) - i'd just like to get an idea of the performance difference (especially in Logic Pro X) between the quad i7 3.5ghz (non-retina) and the quad i7 4.0ghz (retina)?
I use loads of plugin instruments (incl. big Kontakt libraries) and effects with just a few audio tracks (only ever record max a couple of audio tracks at a time)
    Thanks!

I owned the imac and then returned it for the 2.6 MacBook Pro. After using both there is a noticeable speed difference between the 2. Not a huge difference but there is certainly more lag using the MacBook Pro. I found that lots of the lag went away when I attached to an external display though. At the end of the day I think you just need to decide if you need the portability or not. At first I thought I would keep the imac and then get a cheap MacBook Pro to use on the road but the thought of having multiple Lightroom catalogs sounds very annoying to me. Plus all the transferring back and forth. I will say also that I've been getting a lot of freezes in Photoshop on my mbp and weird errors like the sleep wake failure error some people are talking about when connected to a USB device. I didn't have any of these problems with the imac

  • Kontakt instruments playback in Logic Pro 9 but they don't bounce to disk.

After much searching and random attempts with settings in both Logic Pro and the Kontakt player, I haven't found a way to send the playback from the Kontakt player to Logic Pro. In Digital Performer (e.g.) it's accomplished by recording real-time playback of the MIDI-to-Kontakt (or other player being used as a plugin) and then drop the audio file into an audio track. I don't see a way to do that in Logic. When I bounced in realtime I heard the Kontakt instrument but it wasn't recorded. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.
MacBook Pro, M-Audio Fast Track Ultra

I believe I am running it as a plugin. Kontakt is checked in the Audio Units Manager as available in Logic Pro and it appears in the Library when I create a stereo External MIDI track. If I create a Software Instruments track (which doesn't see Kontakt), I can reassign the track as a MIDI Instrument and select Kontakt 5 Virtual Input. That justs reassigns the channel as an External MIDI instrument and I'm back where I started.
In Kontakt, the Output for Channel 1 (st. 1) only allows me to select my audio interface - M-Audio Fast Track Ultra. The only selections that will enable stereo playback in Logic appear in this screenshot:
I tried using Reaktor in the same way and got the same result - playback but no bounce.
In response to your multi-timbral setting idea, RT, the patch is a stereo sample and the multi-timbral aspect would only apply if I were loading a Software Instrument track (which apparently only allows selection of instruments within Logic).
I tried working in the Environment window hoping I could cable Kontakt to Logic but that failed as well. I'm stumped.
Thanks for the suggestions. Any other ideas are welcome!

  • How to reduce CPU usage when working in Logic Pro and Kontakt5

    Hello All,
I have a MacBook Pro 15" early 2011 2.0 GHZ. My main acitivity is making music with my macbook pro. I am using Logic Pro 9 in combination with Kontakt 5.
I want to get some suggestions in the setup so I can reduce the usage of the CPU. By the way I have upgraded my system with a SSD 256GB , 16GB RAM and have removed the optical drive and installed the the previous factory set HD in the optical bay. I have placed the samples of the Kontakt 5 in the HD so I have enough space on my SSD to run the progrmas fast and smooth !
If possible give your advise on an optimum setup such as reachanaling the sounds through BUS to AUX channels and other methods in order to reduce the CPU usage. You may even post some good links where I can find more info.
    Thanks in advance

    So Center of Pan,
If you were to run something like Omnipshere on an active SI track do you get anywhere near the "1 core CPU" spike I'm getting on my Late 2011 TOTR MBP?
I still dont really get why L9 on a new MBP peforms worse than eg your PC.
Older versions of Logic (ie: 5.5) don't see individual cores, there is one disk meter and one CPU meter. In some ways it's a more efficient system. This is running on WinXP which happens to be a very good system for audio. Consider this, XP can be installed and take up only half a gig of disk space and do 90% of what most operating systems can do today.
I do see single core spikes on my single processor quad core Mac Pro.  There's no way to get around a processor intensive plugin on a single track. A channel strip is tied to a single process (core). I stopped upgrading at 10.6.8 and Logic 9.1.3, because it works. I still get the occasional single core use even with multiple plugs and tracks but I can usually break the logjam by quickly starting and stopping Logic 2 or 3 times.
I will not upgrade Mac hardware or software unless the next version of Logic is outstanding, I'm fine where I'm at for the next year or two. I enjoy recording performers more than anything else so al I really need is a good sounding, solid system.

  • *Logic Pro 9.1.1, Garageband, Waveburner, Abelton suddenly crashed and won't open at all !

I recently was working on a project in Logic Pro 9.1.1, saved the project and put my macbook to sleep. When i return, my mac wont turn on for the first 10-15 minutes sitting on the blank screen with the rotating circle. When it finally loads through and comes on I find that my Logic Pro software along with Waveburner, Garageband, Abelton, basically any DAW that i try to run will not open. The application icon just bounces and then shows the crash report, i also tried simply opening the project file. I have tried re-downloading the Logic Pro software with no luck. I desperately need this software to be working again, i will post the crash report along with this hoping someone could help out.

    Alex,
If you have to ask about backups then I would have to assume you have not been making any.. be it Clones of your System Drive using Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper! (My personal favorite) that you manually save to an external HD or you haven't setup and been using Time Machine that is built into OS X that automatically backs up everything to an ext HD.  I highly recommend you use one of those methods from now on... and in fact i highly recommend you use both methods.. as the Clone method allows you to quickly wipe out everything and reinstall from the clone image to take you back to where you were before any issue arrived. I make one every time before I upgrade anything major.. and I also make one every week...
So, as i said, did you try checking and repairing your System Disk using OS X's Disk Utility? That is the only possible other option you have at this time as you have no backups..
Other than that.. You will probably need to start again from scratch.... formatting the HD.. installing OS X and then your Apps etc...
Make sure you move/copy all personal data files such as Photos, docs, Logic Pro Projects and so on.....to an external HD before you reformat and start again... You can then move those personal data files back manually after you have reinstalled everything...
