Logic Pro on a Macbook air 11''

Hi, the Macbook air 11" has a 1366x768 rez, and the minimum required for Logic 9 is 1280x800, according to the documentation and Apple's website. Has anyone tried Logic with lower resolution than required? Will it work or will it make access to some parameters impossible? The puzzling part is that you can order the 11" air with logic express pre-installed... Any thoughts?

Hi Everyone
I recently purchased a maxed out 13" MacBook Air and very successfully running Logic 9 on it. I posted my summary on Gearslutz a little while ago, but I'll copy it here for your information:
Just thought I would give a short report of my experience using Logic Pro 9.1.3 on a MacBook Air (late 2010). It is the 13.3” 2.13GHz, 4Gb memory, 256Gb SSD model.
First of all, I am not intending to use it for any kind of audio recording. I’m not saying that the MBA couldn’t handle the task; it’s just that I have no need of it. I want to be able to sketch out ideas in a hotel room with minimal equipment (in other words, a laptop, a two octave keyboard, a pair of headphones and me).
First of all, I tried the Logic Pro Multicore Benchmarktest several times. It gives a solid 17 tracks, which I am very happy about. My previous laptop, a MacBook Pro 15” (mid 2009) 2.66GHz 4Gb, could only get 20/21. So doing the maths, I was only expecting about 16 from the MBA anyway.
Secondly, I tried several instances of Omnisphere (my main sketching VI). I used three instances, each running the “Astral Visions 1” patch, another three instances, each running the “Bandpass Trancer” patch and finally another three instances, each running the “Brazillian Bandpass Thipper” patch. That’s 9 separate instances of Omnisphere and there was still processor to spare.
So feeling brave I tried adding some MULTI instances of Omnisphere. I managed to add 4 (“Fandrum Club Groove”, “Techno Land”, “Balaphonic Dance” and “Vox Continental Arpeggiations”) and although the processor bars were both peaking into the red, the project never once stopped (I left it running silently for an hour). Activity Monitor showed an average of 135% CPU being used with over 1Gb of memory still free. The fan does come on and there is a slight noise but nothing very noticeable.
Logic looks good on the 1440 x 900 screen and even though the pixel density is much higher than on the 15” MacBook Pro screen, everything was still easy to read and use.
So to summarise, I am a very happy MacBook Air owner. Obviously it’s nowhere near being a desktop replacement, but that’s not I was looking for. I wanted a lightweight machine that could run several VIs easily and that’s exactly what I have. If I sound a little bit smug, it’s because I am!

  • [Logic Pro X] 13" Macbook Air - Can handle?

    Hello everyone!
For the last couple of weeks, I'm just going crazy about my computer, which I have been using for music production / composing. But I have to tell you that I'm really fed up with this. So, I want to get an upgrade of my life. To Macbook!
So, I have been reading forums, watching videos etc. about Macbook Air. Which, to be honest, a dream come true for me, because I am constantly going out of country and travelling because my fiancée is from another country. Air is lightweight, slim, and what I need.
But there is a problem that I am constantly thinking about, which is that I have a low budged and can't afford a buffed up Macbook Pro.
I won't push the Logic so hard, I will use like 8-10 Tracks. Not so heavyweight plug-ins. With her, I am making jazzy sounds, so, not so CPU-Pushing things.
So, I have like 2 options:
    A - i7 Processor / 4GB Ram
    B - i5 Processor / 8GB Ram
Either, I will use them for the same purpose. But the thing is, which one would perform better for my needs?
Or the bigger question... Will there be any problem for me with Logic for the fields I use that I've stated above?
    Can It handle my needs?
    Thanks in advance!

What follows is simply a personal opinion.. and so others may disagree....
A Macbook Air, while very good for the purpose it is designed for... (A light. efficient, portable notebook type device) it is not really suitable for use with a very resource demanding application such as Logic Pro... You could use it, yes...... but depending on how complex your arrangements are... number of tracks.. type of plugins.. number of audio tracks and so on.. you would likely soon run into it's limitations...
I would suggest you put your money into a Macbook Pro via Apple's Refurb store... (Same warranty etc.. as new but usually about 20-30% cheaper).... get as fast a i7 as you can... along with 16GB of Ram....  and you should be much better off..
The following site is extremely useful at tracking down which refurb units are available in your country.....
    https://www.refurb.me/us/
Note: I haven't bought a full priced Apple product in a loog time.. having bough my last 9 Macs, iPads and other sundry things like Airport Extremes..  via the refurb store and frankly, you would never know they were refurbed... as Apple pay really good attention to detail and testing of such units before reselling them.. plus, as i said earlier.. you have the exact same warranties as new models along with whatever Applecare you may choose to buy too... For me it's a no brainer to buy refurb.. if the gear is available.

Addressbook synching would be through your iCloud account. It has nothing to do with Safari.

  • Should I buy a MacBook Pro or a MacBook Air

I am currently going into high school and have saved enough money to buy a macbook. However, I am debating to if i should buy a MacBook Pro or a Macbook Air. I would use the laptop for these things
    1. Basic Microsoft programs(Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc. for school)
    2. I will also be Parallels on my mac
    3. Light amount of gaming (League of Legends)
    4. Websurfing/Research ( usually with an abundance of pages open)
    5. Studying ( as any student would do)
    6. Video Watching
    7. Music
I am willing to upgrade the internals of the macbook but have a budget of about 1,250 dollars. Advice about which laptop to pick as well as what upgrades may need to be made for the internals will extremely help. Thank you

In addition to what Japib wrote
You might be able to shave $50 or so via education pricing at online Apple Store
Parallels has education pricing, ditto MS Office. Your school (district) might have some education prices for software.

A basic MBA will be more than adequate.  Take into consideration that storage may be a long term issue unless you are not averse to traveling with an external HDD.
    Ciao.

  • What would be a better choice between a MacBook Pro and a MacBook Air?

I will be starting college next fall as a neuroscience major and I am torn between purchasing a MacBook Pro vs. a MacBook Air. Which would be a better choice considering I would be using it to take notes, creating documents, presentations etc.? I am not a person involved in heavy gaming, or major creative things. Just simple stuff but I do however spend countless hours doing research. Help!

Personally the Airs have no appeal for me. Limited hard drive space (actuall no hard drive, it is all flash storage space) which can not be upgraded.
Airs are to small unless you get the 13" model and for that money you can get a nice 13" MBP or even a 15" model.
For me an Air would be a second or third computer but not my only computer.

  • MacBook Pro vs. MacBook Air - which is better for a high school student? Tips/suggestions?? Thanks

I can't decide if I want to purchase the MacBook Pro or the MacBook Air for my high schooler. It has to have multiple life purposes such as social networking, webcam, word processing etc.  I am probably buying a refurbished laptop from this website. Any other tips are appreciated!

Remember: the MacBook Air does not have an optical drive, so you can't use CD's or DVD's. However, if you do not plan on using the computer for gaming, video editing, or large-file storing go with the Air, as it is much less expensive, but just as fast and responsive as the MacBook Pro. Not to mention that it's $200 cheaper.

Light weight basic needs, power miser - MacBook Air (glossy screens)
Semi-light weight basic needs, more storage, DVD drive, hot machine (no 3D gaming) - 13" MacBook Pro (glossy screens)
Bit heavier, pro needs, 3D gaming, cool machine, power hungry, - 15" MacBook Pro  (anti-glare screen option, recommended)
Same as above, larger screen for HD video, cool machine,  power hungry, 17" MacBook Pro (anti-glare screen option, recommended)

  • Do I go with the MacBook pro or the MacBook air? I'm going into 8th grade and were required to have labtop. I Also edit videos for my YouTube chanel. Which should I get 13 inch model.

MacBook Air: thin, light, fast SSD storage. Cons: not upgradable, expensive.
MacBook Pro: cheaper, upgradable, better graphics card, more storage and RAM for the buck.  Cons: not as light
you'll get more for the money with the MacBook Pro. the Air is better as a second computer for people.

  • For Macbook pro Retina and Macbook Air Users Please Help

    Hi
i Want Ask Macbook pro Retina and Macbook Air Users how use this macs both ( Only how use  both )
we sit many hours on laptop that will hurt our eyes
what the macbook less strain on eyes
what the best macbook screen not hurt our eyes
sorry my english is not good but i hope you understand me
i want only users how use the both of this macs
    thank you

People are different.  Not everyone experiences eye strain with an LED/LCD screen, or with a retina screen or any other kind of screen.  Some people do.
So no one here can possibly say how you will feel using either one - everyone is different.
You need to find some display models or something and try them yourself and see what you like and how you feel using them.  Anything anyone here has experienced is immaterial - all that matters is what you expereince and we cannot predict that for you.
I stare at computer screens all day long, and have done so for many, many years now.  I've never had a problem with matte LCD, glossy LCD (like my MBP), CRT, plasma or page white.  About the only problem I've ever had is occasionally dry eye, since everyone tends to blink less when concentrating on anything backlit for long periods of time.  Simple artificial tears deals with that, and just learning to stagger regular breaks.

  • I have started migration système to transfert from hold Macbook pro to New MacBook air application starter successfully for several hours. But since more than 3 hours I got the message transferring Time zone paramètres with time left less than 1 minute.

    Hi
I have started migration système to transfert from hold Macbook pro to New MacBook air
Application starter successfully for several hours.
But since more than 3 hours I got the message "transferring Time zone paramètres " with time left less than 1 minute.
Any recommendation or suggestion to solve it ?
    Many tanks

If it has run for 3 hours it's probably done and you can quit Migration Assistant and reboot the new computer. In the future rather than using Migration Assistant I would recommend using Startup Assistant which tends to be a bit more reliable and does not create a new user account as MA does. If  you're interested here is an article explaining Setup Assistant tips.
