Logic Pro/TDM

I have PTHD3 (3 PCIe cards) installed on my G5. I want to continue to use Logic Pro for certain things on this computer but had to remove my Symphony card. It is my understanding that Logic Pro can utilize the converters going through the Protools cards. I have tried changing the Preferences in Logic Pro in every imaginable way and just can't seem to pass audio into or out of Logic Pro via the PT/TDM cards with Aurora 16 converter.
If there are any Logic users out there also using TDM I would greatly appreciate some words of wisdom. I am just not willing to give up Logic and if necessary I will just purchase another computer to run Logic on-- but this is not very cost effective.

I notice that this post was originally put up last year but any PRO TOOLS - LOGIC TDM users may find the "Logic/TDM Users" forum more specific to their needs ....... however that group don't tend to respond to peeps who aren't using that gear.

  • Logic Pro 9.1 and TDM - The Deafening Silence!!!

Where on earth did TDM compatibility go? I know that in the recent Pro Tools 8.0.3 update Digidesign mentioned that Logic Pro would no longer be supported, but there hasn't been a peep out of Apple on the matter. There's not a single mention in the 9.1 update documentation about TDM, the TDM and DTDM tabs in the Audio Devices prefs have disappeared, and yet on the [Logic Pro product page|http://www.apple.com/logicstudio/logicpro> under Compatibility, Apple still bodly claims that, and I quote:
"Logic Pro *fully supports* Apple Core Audio and *Pro Tools HD hardware*. That gives you the freedom to work with almost any audio interface, and even combine the inputs and outputs of multiple devices."
    and further:
"You can plug in any TDM or Audio Units software instrument or effect."
Excuse me for being ultra picky here, but the Digi CoreAudio driver only accesses 8 channels of I/O on a Digi 192 and you cannot use TDM plug-ins. That's not what I would describe as full support!

Well I would love you to come and look at my rig sometime. I have a cacophony of issues ranging from crashes when looking for audio files when booting session, plug-ins not recalling or displaying graphics properly, random crashes, audio "not being recorded"
These issues mentioned (and a host of others) I have spoken to both apple and digidesign at great legenth, have only had both companies passing the buck from one to the other.
    From Apple
"I just informed my collegue ** about the issue being isolated to miscommunication between your digidesign system and Logic pro.
Since the latest version of Protools did not stop the DAE engine from causing the crashes and this issue can only be fixed by a hardware driver the only solution to this would be a to obtain a driver update from Digidesign.
My collegue Peggy is definitely willing to discuss all the frustrations this issue has caused but It is very important that I explain that Apple would be unable to do anything concerning the Digidesign driver for the Digidesign PROTOOLS HD3 ACCEL system.
All drivers for digidesign hardware are included inside the protools applications as Digidesign products are Hardware/software bundle.
Even updating Logic pro would not fix this type of issues as communication between a PCIe cards and a software solely depends on the driver of the card.
    From Digidesign
Even though we do work with Apple, and do address certain issues ourselves, it is ultimately their responsibility to ensure that their software works with our hardware and not the other way around. As previously established the Pro Tools software works fine with the hardware which means that the hardware is working without issue and that the problem is software related.
    Thanks guys.
So, no. In my experience "it works" in very scant terms indeed.

  • Logic Pro and LE to TDM compatobobs

    Hi all.
I am using Logic Pro with Pro Tools LE at home and things are working. When I bring the logic session to the studio equipped with Pro Tools HD2 I find the physical TDM inputs are not available in the session.
Starting a new session on the HD2 system, all 16 physical inputs appear in the session (8 analog/8 Digital)...
It seems that the session that was created on the core audio system doesn't recognise the new TDM hardware at the studio.
Is there a way of rescanning so that the Logic session started on core audio recognises the extra TDM inputs?
I am using Core Audio and DAE....
    PT v 7.1 cs8/HD2, 192 IO
    Logic Pro v 7.2
    MacOSX 10.4.6

Try running the setup assistant from within the session on the HD2 system. Then go to the audio prefs and make sure DAE is enabled. I think that might work. I had a similer problem loading express songs in pro. That's what I did and I got my missing i/o back. Hope that helps.

  • Logic 8.02 Mac Pro TDM Digi 96 i/0 OSX 10.5.5 - HEEELP!!!

Anyone running Logic 8.02 in TDM successfully on a Mac Pro?
I've reinstalled and checked everything for months now!
Still no sound from EXS (TDMAux) or any Dtdm / ESB . .. only audio . .
    Help!

*Hi Dane. Great thanks for helping us!*
    I'll answer your q's
+With the Magma, do you still keep 1 Core card in the host computer?(with HD3 i have all cards inside my mac.)+
Only Magma-card in computer (since it's PCI-Express) and all the (4) PT-cards (including core) in Magma. I have 1 HD Core, 1 HD Accel, 2 HD Process. All checks out "passed"
+Are you running SpotLight?(I have mine turned on on the main OS X HD, ad off on my Recording/Audio/Logic&Pro Tools Sessions.)+
    Tried both.
+Are you using a dedicated, separate (from the OS) HD for ALL Recording/Audio/Logic&Pro Tools Sessions?+
    Yes.
+Have you tried removing ALL plugins from there normally kept folders, and booted? Keeping the plugins in a folder on your desktop? to see if they are interfering..+
Yes. In addition, I've made 2 separate fresh LeopardPTLogic installations on 2 separate HD's, to be able to try different things . .
+Read this it helped me understand what is happening technically.+
    +http://www.logicprohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=254&highlight=+
Ok. I actually glanced at it . . but I'll read it again, thoroughly!
+Have you read though a followed the Logic Pro 8 TDM Guide located here and in your Logic app?+
    +http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/LogicPro_8_TDMGuide.pdf+
Yes. Very uninformative indeed. I must say, having been a Mac-freak since early '90s, Apple's support and documentation on possible and reported problems really *****. It feels like the TDM-crowd was abandoned the minute Apple bought Logic.
+Simple, but is you Logic Pro working fine with only Core Audio running? (no DAE & DTDM)+
    Yes.

  • Logic Pro 8 & TDM Error Codes, need help!

I am using Logic Pro 8 & TDM hardware. I am getting 2 error codes, only when I try to use the Audio Suite in the Sample Editor.
"Error code -7401 was returned by the DAE driver."
"2 times TDM error -7102 while trying to disconnect TDM."
What do these mean? I tried searching the net and found nothing useful. Otherwise Logic Pro 8 and TDM has been flawless, and all my hardware works perfectly in Pro Tools HD.
I am using a 96i I/O, and 1 Accel Core card and 2 HD Accel cards (PCIe).
Also the Audio Suite doesn't seem to process the audio as intended or at all. There 2 errors show up when I try to preview the effect, no matter what Audio Suite buffer size I use.
Thank you in advance for any info.

I've been trying to get Logic to work with DAE/TDM in Leopard on a Mac Pro now for months! How did you do it?? Been searching the internet for answers ever since I started, and would highly appreciate your response.
My most obvious problems are: No audio from Aux (EXS, ESB) or instruments. The whole program is "struggling" with awful "framerates" . . just moving the pointer takes forever.
When in Core-audio everything works fine.
I have reinstalled Leopard, Pro Tools and Logic several times, with no luck.
Please tell me how you did it!
    Thx in advance!!

  • Is there a plug-in like VocAlign that works in Logic Pro?

I would like to use a plug-in that works like VocAlign. Is there anything around that works in Logic Pro .....what does everyone else use?

I would like to use a plug-in that works like
VocAlign. Is there anything around that works in
    Logic Pro
Not that I'm aware of. Vocalign is the only thing that does what Vocalign does.
    .....what does everyone else use?
They either use Vocalign TDM inside ProTools, or use the stand alone Vocalign Project on the files and then load them back into the DAW.
One exception is Digital Performer, which has an proprietry interface to link to the Vocalign application, which can pass the files firectly between the two, which makes processing easier and quicker.

  • Logic Pro 8 and PT 7.4 not compatible ...

    PT 7.4 is out.
Having Logic 8 on a MAC PRO as a front end for PTHD was supposed to happen with PT 7.4 release.
I downloaded it ($79) trying last night to set Logic 8 in the preference. First I set up the Core audio to my 96i I/o, then selected "DAE". then I Had an error -1133 return by the DAE driver.
I never used Logic with PTHD. Because I have an Intel Mac. SO I guess it is either I dont know what i am doing (Which it wont be the first time) or PT 7.4 is not yet compatible with Logic Pro 8 on intel Mac.
which is what probably the case. I read everything I could on the Digi site, there is nothing at all about Logic Pro 8. One deception down, I dont have to worry about this.
    Eric d

    Hi,
I am the original one who posted this but, After hours of nothing but frustration
    I have the DAE/DTDM working within Logic 8 And PTHD 7.4. (I have a 96i I/O)
If you are intrested in what I did to make it wok this is it:
    In Preference>Audio
    1. Disable Core Audio
    2. Enable DAE Click on TDM Setup Indicator, I choose 24 Bit, and 48 Tracks (3DSPs). You can click on "Digidesign Hardware Set up" if you want to change something But I did'nt
    3. Enable Direct TDM and Universal Track Mode.
Limitation and advantages of running Logic 8 as a front end to PTHD: There are two types of tracks - DAE tracks which uses TDM plugins and Direct TDM tracks with are Audio OR Software Instruments they run All Logic 8 Plugins including Sof Instr. You Can also Use a Node on them (I Works). The problem is you Only have * TDM Device channels. Routed as ESB Mono 1 thru 8 or stereo ESB 1-2 thru 7-8. You have to route the Output of the TDM Device track (ESB 1...8) to an Aux track Input 9ESB 1...8), the Logic effectS are in the TDM Device tracks and Prottols TDM plug ins are in the corresponding Aux tracks
Unortunately All Channel Stereo channel are Double Mono which takes more real estate. When Playing a double Mono the even number could be changed to stereo and it work well as such but you cannot get rid of the other Mono track it has to be next to the stereo track.
When creating tracks in DAE you cannot choose stereo, but one selected you can change it in the arrange to stereo.
    I hope this help.
    Good luck
    Eric D

  • Logic Pro 9.1.3 with Pro Tools HD 8.1.1

    Hey guys,
I've been reading all day and hoping I could make this happen but I'm losing hope.
I have an Pro Tools HD 2 system with 8.1.1 and Logic Pro 9.1.3 installed on my computer.
I currently have Logic slaved to pro tools but I can only get sound to come out of the built in output of the speakers which I then record it to pro tools on seperate passes. I'm trying to get my logic instruments to go out seperate audio channels and into seperate audio tracks on Pro Tools.
For example, I want a sound from my exs sampler to be monitored through my pro tools channel 1-2 and a sound from ES1 or some synth to be monitored through channels 3-4.
It would just make things sooooo much easier if this could happen! I also have reason 5 rewired to logic which I wanted to go through logic into pro tools on seperate channels as well.
As of now, I'm using all 3 programs but I have to use just one stereo channel in pro tools to monitor both logic and reason!
Is it possible to assign logic to go out different output channels into different pro tools tracks??????
Thanks much - Oh yeah I'm also on Snow Leopard if that matters.
    Josh

Avid dropped support for Logic TDM in Pro Tools HD 8.0.3. You need Pro Tools HD 8.0.1 if you want to use Logic with TDM hardware. Pro Tools HD 8.0.1 is qualified up to OS 10.5.8. Anything else is untested.
Logic followed suit by dropping the DAE menu in version 9.1 or later (gleamed from reading these forums), but annoyingly did not mention anything in their release notes. 9.0.2 is the last official mention of TDM support.
You can always use eight channels of Avid hardware with CoreAudio. By using aggregate IO you can do what you need to with eight channels. If you want to use DAE TDM, the only guarantee is PT HD 8.0.1, Logic 9.0.2, OS 10.5.8.

  • Why is logic pro only showing 8 inputs with core audio?

I use Logic Pro and Pro Tools HD TDM and I have 2 audio interfaces with a total of 20 analog inputs.  It seems that in Logic, I can only access 8 inputs. I suspect this has something to do with core audio and logic but there has to be a way around this that allows me to use all 20 inputs right?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Too bad you're not running an earlier version of Pro Tools, prior to 8.03 or you could use your system under DAE and have access to the HD system in Logic, or at least in some versions of Logic 9.
    http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/en_US/Compatibility/en363063
You will be limited to 8 ins under core audio as I recall... this is due to Avid's core audio driver.
    Here's more about HD support.

I have in the same comuter Logic Pro 8, and i can't use the DSP of ProTools HD, and the Logic Pro plug-in and Protools HD plug-ins dont want work too.
I contacted Apogee, Digidesign and Apple for this problem, but anyone have the solution....

    Hi DMS Debah
I got PT HD 2 and works great here !
    TRY this : http://duc.digidesign.com/showthread.php?t=54888

try to change your Logic audio drivers ! you'll see there is(select it ) DAE
driver, TDM option and Core audio driver! You have to chose DAE driver then
reboot the logic Pro then it will work
    Best,

  • Logic Pro and Pro Tools DAE

    Hey whats up.
    I got Logic Pro, Pro Tools HD2, (2) 96ios, and (2) 1622s.
    I have 48 inputs...
I want to be able to use Logic's soft synths and have the outputs go into my Pro Tools Audio Interface.
I was reading the TDM guide and some questions here but I can't figure out what I'm supposed to do.
I go to Audio Hardware and Drivers... but it only shows Core Audio. Not DAE or DTDM. Do I have to install something with my Pro Tools system to make them show up?
Also, Is it possible to have Logic's Soft Syths go directly to Pro Tool's interfaces?
Thanks very much for any help on the matter.
    Josh
Mac Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

My system is working fine besides this.
But when I got to Audio Hardware and Drivers I only have a Core Audio tab... Not DAE or DTDM.
I called tech support and they looked on the Pro Tools website. It says:
    * Logic Pro 7.2 is supported on Intel-based Mac versions of Pro Tools only via Core Audio at this time.
So this means that I can't output my synth sounds out to separate Pro Tools channels???
I'm ready to give up and wait for an update but can this really be? I have Pro Tools HD2 and a Mac Pro. They are too new??? I hope I'm wrong. What do u think?
    Thanks very much.
    Josh
As for the Key Commands, it was the next plug-in and I assigned them to + and -.... Thanks guys!

  • Logic Pro 8 with Triton Studio MIDI Data Not Sending

I have a Triton Studio (Korg), recently got a MIDI IN/OUT to USB plug in, for my macbook.
Never done this before, thus am trying to figure this out:
My computer is showing that the USB plug in is indeed there, and Logic Pro sees the device as well... however when I punch the keys in the keyboard, the data does not seem to transfer into the Logic Pro track.
I just want to get it set up, so I can record onto Logic Pro 8, creating music on this software.  As in playing my board, having the software receive what I am playing.  Just piano stuff really...  Any help I can get is appreciated, I have looked through all sorts of forums and manuals, but maybe an explanation would help, or clarity on what the basic settings should be at, so it can work, then if it still does not work, then maybe there's another issue.
Also, when I start Logic Pro 8, it says "Cannot find DAE Folder in "System Folder" them "ESB TDM Plug-in not found"
Are these anything to worry about?  This computer is used, thus I am not the first owner.

The cable labeled IN goes to the MIDI OUT port on the keyboard....etc.
You need to use an external MIDI track or a Software (virtual) Instrument track to record MIDI.
Normally this is correct, but I have seen a USB Interface where the cables are labelled the other way round.... IN goes to IN, OUT goes to OUT.
Crazy situation, but might be worth checking?

That's one I've never seen but have no doubt they exist.
Perhaps a quality control issue.... Nah!
    To the O.P.
Does the Korg Triton have to be enabled for MIDI out.
As I recall some Korg Triton models had both MIDI ports and a built in USB interface and there was a MIDI Menu where either port could be enabled. It's worth checking into even if your model does not have the built-in USB output.
Are you using 10.6.8 like your tagline says?

  • Transition to Logic Pro X from Protools

I've been running PT8  HD 3/TDM for some time on a MacPro 2 x 2.4 Quad, Xeon, 8 GB RAM and have an ICON controller.   I just upgraded my Mac to Mountain Lion to optimize other software I am running.   PT crashed and I discovered that I now need to upgrade PT to 11.   This is going to be at least 6K and a headache.   I saw the news that Logic Pro X just went to market.  I am seriously considering transitioning to Logic and getting out of Protools.
The following are critical issues for me and I wonder how Logic address them:
    1.   Delay compensation..  When I am overdubbing, mixing with plugins on some channels and outboard gear on other channels how does Logic handle this.    If I recall from years ago you had to manually adjust delay compensation when overdubbing, i.e. determine the number of samples that new tracks were off.
    2.   Setting up new tracks.     I recall using Logic previously and it was challenging and not very intuitive to set up new tracks or channels.    Had this improved.    I know that this issue is also personal preference and was perhaps my personal shortcoming.
    3.   What about my 10s of thousands of dollars of plugins that I have already paid for.   I know that the TDM versons are out the window.  What about RTAS?   What type of plugins can I use with Logic Pro.
    4.   I like using an ICON controller.   I imagine that there are a bunch of good controllers out there that are specific to Logic Pro.    What are your preferences?

Any personal experiences would be greatly appreciated.

  • *Logic Pro 9.1.1, Garageband, Waveburner, Abelton suddenly crashed and won't open at all !

I recently was working on a project in Logic Pro 9.1.1, saved the project and put my macbook to sleep. When i return, my mac wont turn on for the first 10-15 minutes sitting on the blank screen with the rotating circle. When it finally loads through and comes on I find that my Logic Pro software along with Waveburner, Garageband, Abelton, basically any DAW that i try to run will not open. The application icon just bounces and then shows the crash report, i also tried simply opening the project file. I have tried re-downloading the Logic Pro software with no luck. I desperately need this software to be working again, i will post the crash report along with this hoping someone could help out.

    Alex,
If you have to ask about backups then I would have to assume you have not been making any.. be it Clones of your System Drive using Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper! (My personal favorite) that you manually save to an external HD or you haven't setup and been using Time Machine that is built into OS X that automatically backs up everything to an ext HD.  I highly recommend you use one of those methods from now on... and in fact i highly recommend you use both methods.. as the Clone method allows you to quickly wipe out everything and reinstall from the clone image to take you back to where you were before any issue arrived. I make one every time before I upgrade anything major.. and I also make one every week...
So, as i said, did you try checking and repairing your System Disk using OS X's Disk Utility? That is the only possible other option you have at this time as you have no backups..
Other than that.. You will probably need to start again from scratch.... formatting the HD.. installing OS X and then your Apps etc...
Make sure you move/copy all personal data files such as Photos, docs, Logic Pro Projects and so on.....to an external HD before you reformat and start again... You can then move those personal data files back manually after you have reinstalled everything...

  • How many times can I install Logic Pro?

I need to re-install Logic Pro 8 on my computer but I hear there is a limit to how many times you can do so. Anybody know what the limit is?

No limit on reinstalling to the same machine, it will work fine.
