Logic Pro X External Midi Recording

I am currently working on pulling some projects I have on my Korg Triton workstation onto Logic Pro X. I am having trouble triggering the midi sounds from the Triton to Logic automatically. I was only able to do this once, but I always have to manually hit record on Logic then attempt to time hitting play on the Triton to record my sounds. I've tried various ways of syncing the midi externally and internally to no avail. If anyone understands what I explained and can help it would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
JB

You mean record the MIDI data, MIDI is not sound.... recording the Triton (audio) "sound" is another thing all together.
The only way to sync them is to have Logic as the Master MIDI clock. (Look in Settings/Synchronization) Make sure Logic is sending MIDI clock to the right MIDI port and that sending clock is enabled.
Then in the Triton sequencer set it's clock to external... now when you press play on the Triton it should "Wait" for the MIDI clock start command sent when you hit "Record" in Logic.

  • Logic Pro X External Instrument Recording Problem

    Hi,
I am currently trying to record an external instument in logic pro x but coming across serious latency issues. I am just trying to figure out if the problems lies with my audio interface or the Daw?
I am currently using the Bass station 2 as my external instrument and the Scarlett 2i2 as my interface. My audio set up is below, can you point me in the direction as to where i might be going wrong?

    Thanks for the reply.
Yes trying to record the Audio from my Bass station 2 in to my scarlett 2i2. Currently using Yosemite 10.10.1.
I have tried rebooting and reducing the buffer to 128 but still having the same problem. Ive also tried drawing notes manually in to the piano roll but its still out of sequence and quantize only seems to make it worse when played back.
Recording straight in to an audio track seems to work fine but recording in to an external instrument channel doesn't.
I have to a screen shot of the piano roll so you can get an idea how much its out of sequence, its difficult to explain.

  • Logic Pro &Tascam US 2000, record enable trks 1-12?

How do I get Logic Pro to recognise an external I/O device like the Tascam US200?
How do I get the Sound Preferences to "see" it?
Once it's seen, how can I enable multiple tracks in Logic Pro, so I can record my live drums ?

Did you install the appropriate driver(s) for the unit?
    http://tascam.com/product/us-2000/downloads/
You should be able to assign any of the 16 inputs (not 14) to any Audio Channel Strip/Audio Track in Logic. Same for any of the 4 outputs.
If you use stereo Channel Strips/Audio Tracks, you should be able to record 8 stereo tracks simultaneously, or 16 mono tracks, or probably any combination of those, like 4 stereo and 8 mono tracks.
Yes, Logic is also designed for multi-track recording. Dûh.   That is just an ignorant and nonsensical remark, probably born from frustration.

  • External MIDI recorded as Audio is early

Why is it when I record MIDI data sent from Logic 8.02 to an external synth module and recorded back to Logic as audio is the audio earlier in time than the MIDI?
I played with various delay comp settings and this didn't seem to help.
    Many thanks!
    Alan Hayes

    I have a new Apple dual quad core 2.8Ghz Mac,10 GB RAM, 2TB HD,Apogee Ensemble, Emagic Unitor 8 MKII(USB),Logic Pro 8.02,OSX.5.4.
I am not trying to slave a drum machine or anything else with a clock or any sync messages at all, I am just simply playing back a MIDI sequence from within Logic routed to an external MIDI synth module and recording it back into Logic as audio.
The audio recording is earlier than the MIDI Logic sent out.
This happens with all the MIDI external synths and drum machines I have treid not just this particular unit.
I played with buffer settings, no difference,I turned on and off plugin delay compensation,no difference,BTW this is with a brand new song not made from any template, only one audio track and only one MIDI track, I played with recording delay and got close with a delay of 118 and the audio on beat 1 would be late then on 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10.......it would be early, then on bar 25,26 it was right on time and then it started to get later for every consecutive beat.
Since Apple removed the ability to sync to an external MIDI clock in version 8, now I have to send my clients a MIDI clock and record their data and send it back via MIDI to their workstations or drum machines and now it won't record in time?
I have worked with Logic since ATARI 1040STe back in the late 80s and it was always rock solid in the realm of MIDI from whence it came.
Is there a solution to this I have overlooked?

  • Logic Pro 9 crashing while recording

    Hi all,
Been having serious issues with Logic 9 crashing, specifically while recording for a long period of time (30 mins continuous).  I'm recording 3 audio tracks at most, at 44.1k/16bit.  My computer has plenty of space available, 25 gigs at the start of record.
    System specs:

Are you recording AIFF, WAV or CAF?
25 GB is not a lot of space, easpecially if that is on your system disk. You should KEEP at least 20 % of its capacity free, so unless your disk is 80 GB or smaller, it is too little. And since you only have 2 GB RAM, you'll need that free disk space (the less RAM, the more OS X needs free disk space to "offload" ongoing processes onto.)
Unfortunately, the crash report doesn't yield any direct clues as to why this happened (it's a 'generic' crash report). But I would urge you to record .caf files to an External FireWire disk, not AIFF or WAV to the internal.
    from
    http://documentation.apple.com/en/logicpro/usermanual/index.html#chapter=14%26se ction=9%26tasks=true
There is a maximum recording size according to file type, as follows:
AIFF: The AIFF file format cannot handle audio file recordings larger than 2 GB:
For 16-bit, 44.1 kHz stereo files, this equals a recording time of about 3 hours and 15 minutes.
For 24-bit, 96 kHz, 5.1 surround files, this equals a recording time of about 20 minutes.
WAVE (BWF): The WAVE file format cannot handle audio file recordings larger than 4 GB:
For 16-bit, 44.1 kHz stereo files, this equals a recording time of about 6 hours and 30 minutes.
For 24-bit, 96 kHz, 5.1 surround files, this equals a recording time of about 40 minutes.

  • Logic Pro X won't record from USB or builtin audio devices

I have a M-Audio Fast Track and I've overcome the bugs regarding audio input and Mavericks by using a new mac and upgrading to Logic Pro X.  Now I have a new issue which I think is unrelated.
I can hear the guitars in Logic Pro X when I turn the monitor on.  The track shows input levels, my guitar plugins work.  When I hit record I can record software instruments but when I try to record guitars or vocals nothing is ever recorded.  I even unplugged the M-Audio Fast Track and tried the mic input on the mac and have gotten the same results.
Does anyone have any suggestions for this?

  • Is Logic Pro the Best Audio Recording Software for Mac?

Couple questions. I do a lot of audio production and work currently. I use a gateway with Cubase, and its not bad, but I feel like I need something mroe high end.
I'm looking at the 17 inch Imac. Does anyone record using this computer? How's it sound? Is there any way to put in a new soundcard or something if i don't like the current one?
Secondly, is logic pro the most advanced and best audio recording software for the mac? Are there others as well?
I know about Pro Tools, but it seems like there isn't anything high end enough that is TOO high end.
Does the Pro version have superior mixing capabilties. I am primarily going to be micing a guitar amp and having a mixer run into a firewire port, and also using a preamp for my guitar direct into the computers USB.
Lastly, how are the mixing features on Logic Pro vs. Logic Express? I do a lot of post production mixing as well, and use VST plugins. Speaking of that, will it accomodate using a drum program like BFD through VST or Midi like Cubase will?
    Thanks for your time guys.

Yes, you do indeed need sth more high end.

It's not an iMac, but a faithful PowerBook G4 that I am using. Apples Core Audio is awesome. Your sound, however, will depend on your interface.

That's why we are here, and that's why you ended up in this forum as well
To me personally, Logic sounds warmer and bigger than any ProTools system I've ever heard. From what yopu described as the work you need to do, there is no comparable application. Logic also offers you many more features above and beyond what you currently need to do.
I know about Pro Tools, but it seems like there isn't
anything high end enough that is TOO high end.
Everybody is using PT, and you should maybe get a Light Edition version of it. However, as stated above, Logic offers by far more possibilities.

For your purpose, Logic does have superior mixing capabilities. In my humble opinion, only the popularity of PT made it become the choice of studios and engineers, but things are turning...

If you do post production mixing, forget about Logic Express altogether and go for Logic Pro. LP will accomodate tons of plug-ins, and it comes with a bunch of great one's as well!
The format for the plug-ins is called A(udio) U(nit) and works flawlessly. Many VST plug-ins are also available in AU format and the development of those is moving fast forward.
In other words, yes, you will be able to use BFD in Logic by means of the AU format.
    Thanks for your time guys.
    You're welcome.

  • Logic pro and external soundcard

    Hello:)
Having problem with my recording device.
Can you tell me where and how can I set up all lines in and out?
    I cannot find it anywhere.
I went to drivers/core audio but i cannot see anything like choosing chanels for recording.
    regards, peter

here is the text from my other post:
    Good morning,
I own sound card Edirol FA 101 and computer Apple Macbook Pro (Intel procesor, Mac os X 10.4.8, build 8n1037)
    I have this problem:
when I plug in sound card everything is going fine and play sounds good. But I am not able to record any sound from my dj-mixer connected to FA 101 (line in 3.4 right and left channel:)
I even can not find set up in Logic pro 7 to choose from which channel I should record sound into computer.
I went to mac os utilities and chose Audio Midi Setup utility.
    Setups are as follows:
Audio devices (i am not using any MIDI devices at the moment)
Default in put and out put (system output) : All Edirol Fa -101 (3171)
There are two tables bellow these settings. For audio in put and out put. Both are the same.
First column or line says Non-Interleaved device and it is grey - blind so there is no chance to change anything in this option.
    Those are as follows:
    Source: Default
    Format 44 100 Hz 10ch-24bit
and than Chanel and volume slider with value of dB.
But I am able to set only Master Volume. The others are gray and blind (not available).
So I would like to ask how can I choose and unlock the other outputs and inputs as well and record samples in Logic (and other programs as well)
Thank you very much for your answer.
    Kind regards, Poldauf Petr

  • Conflict between Logic Pro and external device error in Logic Pro X./cpu problems

    hi Logic users,
    using a MacBookPro 15 inch Retina, 2,7 GHz intel Core i7, 16 GB Ram, OSX 10,8,5, Logic X 10.0.4.
i am wondering if you can help me out with the following problem i cant solve:
when starting logic x with a not too big arrangement, lets say using one third to half of cpu, i open u-he plugin Diva and the cpu is going up on full range and the following error appears: "sample-rate 39299 (number always changes) reconized. Check conflict between logic pro x and external device"
as external device im running a VirusTi and as audio-device Apogge Duet. when dis-connecting both devices, i have the same problem.
putting the sample buffer up to the highest rate, doesnt change anything.
same arrangements on friends computers dont show that problem, so it has to be something wrong in my set up.
    anybody has an idea?
would be much appreciated for your help,
    thanx-

Have you used Diva's preset Accuracy system to reduce CPU load?
    accuracy
Click on the Main button at the bottom of the window. To the right of the Master section are two selectors called Accuracy and OfflineAcc. In the current version of Diva these are global parameters i.e. they remain fixed across all presets, per loaded instance:
draft........CPU-friendly, but FM will sound rough and resonance is primitive i.e. NOT zero delay! fast......... Fine for older computers and/or when you need more polyphony in acceptable quality great...... The best compromise between quality and polyphony on high-power computers divine..... Top-quality zero delay feedback filters... but can your computer can handle it?
OfflineAcc only has two options – same or best (i.e. divine in the current version).
Some host applications may have problems rendering to audio at the selected accuracy, but the
better ones include an “inform plug-ins of offline rendering status” or similar.
I typically work in draft mode and then switch to Devine or best when freezing the track or bouncing the entire project...

  • Logic Pro X: One MIDI note won't play

I am having a strange problem with Logic Pro X. I use a Yamaha CP33 as my main MIDI keyboard, connected by USB. In the past couple weeks, a strange problem has emerged - one of the notes from the keyboard, the B-2, to be specific, just doesn't trigger. At first I thought the key was broken, but it's okay, because:
    - all keys work fine when I use the keyboard's analog audio output
    - all keys work fine in MainStage
    - the non-functional key moves up and down if I choose to transpose the notes on the keyboard.
So I have concluded that it's a software issue specific to Logic. I have already tried reinstalling the Yamaha USB MIDI driver, it didn't help. Could it be some obscure setting in Logic that is messing things up? What do you suggest can I do to fix this?

    Hi
You may have set up LPX to use that MIDI note as an automation control, or as a keycommand
    a) Go to Preferences;Controller Assignments & check there
    b) Go to Preferences Key Commands and check there
Might be quicker to reset aboth?

  • Logic pro 9 "checking midi drivers" at startup

I recently switched from an imac running os x snow leopard to a newer one running lion. I use protools Le 8.0.4 with an avid mbox, gen 003. This combo always worked great under snow leopard. I installed it in lion and it also works like a charm, except i just bought logic pro 9 from app store, and it seems to get stuck in "checking midi drivers" at startup.
I looked at several previous posts and found the solution was to delete the old digidesign midi drivers from the library>audio>midi drivers folders, which i did and now logic is apparently working fine. Problem is, obviously protools doesn't work now. So it's either one or the other with this solution. There are 4 plugin files in this folder: digidesignfirewiremidi.plugin, avid mbox promidi.plugin, digidesignmbox2midi.plugin, digidiomididriver.plugin.
Am i going to have to keep deleting/restoring these files from the midi drivers folder whenever i wanna switch from logic to protools in the future?? Is it safe to keep doing this long term, or is there another solution i haven't found?
Also, does anyone out there know if it would be helpful to upgrade to protools 8.0.5? Or would i just be asking for more trouble?
    Thanks in advance...

  • MBP Display flicks off while using Logic Pro and external monitor

    Hi there
I have the MBP conected to my external 19" monitor. While running Logic Pro 7.2 the MBP will, for no apparent reason, turn its diplay off and logic will crash. The external monitor will still be on. And I can still move the mouse onto this monitor.
I then have to hold down the start button to force the machine to restart. This only started to happen after 3 months, but now it happens twice a week or so.
    Anyone else experiencing similar problems?

  • Logic Pro and External Arpeggiators

OK, I've been scouring the usual places for answers, but now I come to the oracle(s).
I have an Oberheim Cyclone arpeggiator. It's old, cranky and a pia to use (and I have read the manual, numerous times).
I broke it out last night to give it one more shot with Logic 7.2.3 and actually had it kinda sorta working, then all **** broke loose. Here's the scoop.
I'm running an MTP and an MTP A/V networked and functioning beautifully. I plug the Cyclone into midi i/o 16 (the MTP) and set the clock to external... nada! No midi signal no sync. I did run a cable from the controller to the cyclone to a midi monitor to see if data passes thru and yes it does. I set the clock to internal and every midi light in the neighborhood starts glowing like Three Mile Island.
Question is: Can I cable the Cyclone from my controller in the Environment and just have it operate like the built in arp in Logic or do I need a more robust set up?
    Thanks in advance

Cyclone bad! A new Arpeggiator is in order
