Logic Pro X - Optimal Hardware setup

I am currently running Logic Pro X on an early 2011 MBP 17 with an EiE Pro and Akai MPK49. I am looking move this setup to a desktop environment. Looking at the iMac versus the New Mac Pro. From what I can tell, my MBP(16G RAM) handles it pretty well which indicates that I don't really need the MP (maybe?). Since I am fairly new to Digital Audio (about a year in; hip hop/techno creation/mixing/production), I was wondering if there's anything that I'm not considering. Any thoughts? What are the setups that are working for you? Not made of money, but price is not a deciding factor just looking to get the right setup to suit my needs and allow for growth.

A set of quality speakers and earphones and you should be ready to go, I think.
Cheers!

LPX resides after instal in the Application folder and should also be available in the Dock. If this is not the case then something has gone wrong during the download, you'll have to try again or contact Apple if the problem persists!

  • Logic Pro X Compatible Hardware

I have protools currently and I want to switch over to Logic Pro X so I can use it with my MacBook Pro.  Can someone tell me if my Firewire M-Box Pro M2 hardware interface will work with Logic Pro X?
If it doesn't work is there a list of compatible hardware that works with Logic Pro X?
I want to research the hardware list before I buy the software.  I would really like to use my old DigiDesigns M-Box Pro M2 but I understand if that it probably won't work so I will need to buy new hardware.

This is what Apogee told me that the Developers of Logic X use the Ensemble and other Apogee interfaces.
That could well be true.. but they don't use the Ensemble and other Apogee products, exclusively.... as we could tell after the Mountain Lion debacle with Apogee Drivers not being fully functional for quite some time...
apollo and motu have this but not integrated within Logic like Apogee does
Indeed and a very useful feature that is...
However, I know that Motu are currently working on adding that functionality to their drivers.. now it is available in a stable combo of OS X and Logic Pro X.... Not sure about UAD/Apollo... but it wouldn't surprise me if they were working on new drivers and support for this feature in LPX too, now.
Again, the Ensemble is a very good interface.. No arguments from me on that, but.. my hesitation on recommending it or any Apogee interface whole heartedly and unreservedly,  stems from the serious drivers issues faced by most of the Ensemble/Apogee owners when ML came out.. and the length of time it took Apogee to resolve those issues... which was a nightmare for the clients I have, that use Apogee interfaces.. I really don't ever want to go through that horror-fest again!
    Cheers..

  • Logic Express and Digidesign Hardware

I read that Logic Pro supports Digidesign hardware and was wondering if the Express version did the same?

    Hey Ron,
why don't you listen thru the mbox outs?
The sound it's several times better & powerfull!
Anyway, if you don't bother and still want to listen

  • Logic Pro 8 & TDM Error Codes, need help!

I am using Logic Pro 8 & TDM hardware. I am getting 2 error codes, only when I try to use the Audio Suite in the Sample Editor.
"Error code -7401 was returned by the DAE driver."
"2 times TDM error -7102 while trying to disconnect TDM."
What do these mean? I tried searching the net and found nothing useful. Otherwise Logic Pro 8 and TDM has been flawless, and all my hardware works perfectly in Pro Tools HD.
I am using a 96i I/O, and 1 Accel Core card and 2 HD Accel cards (PCIe).
Also the Audio Suite doesn't seem to process the audio as intended or at all. There 2 errors show up when I try to preview the effect, no matter what Audio Suite buffer size I use.
Thank you in advance for any info.

I've been trying to get Logic to work with DAE/TDM in Leopard on a Mac Pro now for months! How did you do it?? Been searching the internet for answers ever since I started, and would highly appreciate your response.
My most obvious problems are: No audio from Aux (EXS, ESB) or instruments. The whole program is "struggling" with awful "framerates" . . just moving the pointer takes forever.
When in Core-audio everything works fine.
I have reinstalled Leopard, Pro Tools and Logic several times, with no luck.
Please tell me how you did it!
    Thx in advance!!

  • Logic Pro + Node + Studio Setup, Need Advice, Please Help.

    Hello everyone.
Ive just recently bought Logic 7.1 for my Quad PowerMac G5, and Im loving it!
Im going to build a studio in my garden (yup, im no pro). And I was thinking of purchasing a PowerBook for the studio and offload all processing and storage to my Quad machine (located in my study room in the house).
Im also considering purchasing another PowerMac G5 as for my server, and I would like to setup the server to also process Logic data and storage. Is this possible? Would i need to buy Xsan?
Another question, can I use more than 1 PowerMac G5 for Logic Pro? Also, how do I setup a Node? And in order for the Node to work do I need to purchase more Logic Pro USB Keys?
You may be wondering why am I going to purchase a PowerBook for the studio, well the answer is, i don't feel its safe to have a very expensive machine in studio, don't want it to get damaged by environment such as damage or theft, plus i spend alot of time studying.
One more thing, I have a PowerBook G4 and IMac G5, can i also setup Nodes on these machines aswell?
Any input would be brilliant. Also, your suggestions on studio setup would be also welcome.
    Thanks in advance.

You won't need Xsan. I would test things out before getting too far into the idea. Your host should really be the strongest computer, all 3rd party, EXS, etc..plugins are not nodeable. You can use more than 1 node but as I see it your bottleneck would be the PBook. You can use regular file sharing just fine for this. You will need 1 USB key for each computer running Logic, the Node app requires no key. Therefore, you can run Logic on your book and 3 nodes with 1 key if you like. I would encourage you to use an iMac G5 as opposed to a Pbook if you really want to flex Logic muscle, which from the sounds of it, you intend to. iMac G5s are even cheaper than the Pbooks. Another thing to consider is some people have had no luck setting up Nodes-I've never had problems with it but there are some out there, maybe they're weird, maybe I am-but don't be 100% reliant on Nodes all the time until you have proven that in practice.

  • How to use Setup Assistant in Logic Pro 8?

How to use Setup Assistant in Logic Pro 8? I can't find it! even in the User Manuel!
Also, where can we setup the monitor number like we used to set '2 monitor ' in Logic Pro 7's setup assistant
    Thanks!

I've been using Logic on two monitors for years. Screensets extend over all the monitors your computer sees, you can position windows on one, or the other, or size them to fit over both, so you can happily have for instance an arrange window on one monitor, and a mixer window on the other monitor, or stretch a giant arrange window over both...

  • Alesis Midi Controller Keyboard setup with Logic Pro 8

Hi, just wondering if anyone can help me... I'm a complete newbie!
Recently bought a Macbook with Logic Pro 8 and would like to get set up for some home recording. The keyboard I want to use as a midi controller is the Alesis QS6 which has been in the wardrobe for some time. I have a Midiman USB midi interface.
When I connect it all up, I can't get it to make any sounds from Logic, only from the keyboard itself, which I don't want. A friend suggested taking out one of the midi cables so now I have only Midi out from the keyboard running into Midi in on the Midiman. When I play the keyboard the notes register on the Transport bar and I can even record them but I cannot hear anything.
Can anyone tell me what settings I need to have on the Alesis? Should the Keyboard Mode be on Normal, CH Solo or Out 1,2,3...16? I read somewhere I need to turn General Midi off, does this sound right? Is it something to do with midi channels - I don't even know how to tell which midi channel is selected in Logic.
If anyone has experience with using the QS6 with Logic I would love to hear from you!!!
    Thanks!

Run the Audio/MIDI Setup utility. Is your keyboard/MIDI interface displayed in there?
If not, OSX does not see your MIDI device. Install it's drivers if it has them. If it doesn't have any drivers, your MIDI config might have got hosed. What keyboard is it?
Unplug and replug it, directly, don't use a hub. Does it show up in the AMS utility now? Try powering it for an adapter, not from USB.
If you still get no joy, I'll give you some procedures to try...

  • Best hard drive setup for Logic Pro?..

    Hi all,
I'm about to get a Mac Pro, and I was wondering a bit about the best hard drive set up for running Logic Pro.
    1. Should I go with Western Digital Caviar SE ? Noise is a primary issue, I'd like them to be as silent as possible. Could anybody tell me their experiences with this disc?.. I also hear that Samsungs Spinpoint are almost silent. Any truth to this? (I want my discs in sizes of 500Gb.)
    2. Is this a good setup:
    D1: Mac OS, Logic Pro
    D2: Audio for Logic Pro
D3: Sample libraries, including direct from disc streaming.
    3. I seem to remember from another post that someone wrote that raiding discs could actually decrease performance when working with audio. Is this the case?
    Thanks,
    Curvebender.

Yes, excellent way to go. One suggestion: on your sample or audio drive, or an external FW, install a basic system + Logic app only. This enables you to have another system to boot from in case of trouble, or you can use it as a test bed for future updates etc. without affecting your primary system. You'd only boot into this drive in case of problems or for testing. I currently have Leopard running on one drive to test it out as I don't want to move to 10.5.x yet.

  • Logic Pro 9 With Pro Tools 8 HD Hardware - comments

    Hi,
I've just bought yesterday the update for Logic Studio 9.
I'll be posting any anomalies I find here, and suggest all of your that are using Digidesign's HD hardware do as well, so we can establish any known bugs / issues for future reference.
    Requirements:
As of today, August 9th, 2009, the minimum requirements for Logic Pro 9 are:
MAC OS 10.5.7, which is as of this time, ALSO supported by Digidesign HD PT 8.
1 GB RAM (according to the box slip). I happen to have 6 GB.
An Intel Mac. I happen to have a 2 x 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon.
9 GB for applications, and 38GB for additional content. I have 160.9 GB available, so I should be ok there.
Quicktime 7.6 or later... I had to update this one too.
I'll let you guys know about any buginess, and hope you do too.
    Cheers

6 hours to install it all...
    The horror... the Horror...

  • Which is the optimal hard drive configuration for Logic Pro ?

    hello people
i would like to ask your advices about possible hard drive configurations for Logic Pro
    I have a Mac Pro and thinking to buy 4 x 500GB drives .
there are several combinations in my mind to configure , but first of all i would like to ask which is the best for an optimal system for Logic Pro
    model 1 :
    1 stripe Raid 0 array drive for ''System'' (500+500 = 1000)
    1 stripe Raid 0 array drive for ''recording + sound banks'' (500 + 500 = 1000)
which means to using 4 hard drives as 2 drives
    model 2 :
    1 stripe Raid 0 array drive for ''System'' (500+500 = 1000)
1 Single drive for Sound banks (500)
1 Single drive for Recording (500)
which means to using 4 hard drives as 3 drives
Or , it is more healthy to use the drives as single , without raid , stripe sets but with its own capacity instead of combining .
and also if someone has an idea regarding to compare of Seagate and Westerndigital drives (which is the best for audio recording) , would be really helpfull
I am kinda rookie for these subjects :/
    thanks in advance

    heelo blayzay
thanks for the reply and assistance.
    1) how can i create a back up set for the 4th HD to be make back up of the 2nd and 3rd HD
    2) what about to make 1st HD for system and 2nd3rd4th (1.5TB) for audio recording, and an external drive for backups ?
For the back ups , is there a special process for the backing up HD (internal or external) ? Or should i just need a Clone software to make the back up
    thank you again.

  • Logic Pro setup assistant?

    Hi,
I'm a long time Pro Tools user, new to Logic.
I'm following a tutorial DVD about Logic Pro and they start by showing a Setup Assistant.
They talk about and show a Logic Setup Assistant, which is a separate program that can be launched from the Preferences window in Logic.
I don't have that. I also searched my computer and no assistant is installed associated with Logic.
    What am I missing here?
    Thanks,
    Alex

I'm answering myself, since I received a reply from the DVD manufacturers. It's because the Tutorial DVD is based on Logic Pro 7, not 8.

  • Hi I am attempting to use a Zed R-16 with Logic Pro 9,  how can I setup a bounce for output 17-18  this is where the mixer sums (the audio outputs on the zed come through 17-18)

hi I am attempting to use a Zed R-16 with Logic Pro 9,  how can I setup a bounce for output 17-18  this is where the mixer sums (the audio outputs on the zed come through 17-18)
I would like to be able to quickly bounce down my mixes,  through the Zed outputs.

    Pancenter...
Yes... but I have come across some setups that came with a native SL (and even one Lion!) installation.. that somehow had a corrupted or older Prokit installed for some unknown reason... and given it's a quick fix to try.. I thought I'd mention it..
I frankly don't think it is entirely a Prokit issue itself, but it wouldn't do any harm to try and install v7 just in case it is part of the problem...
    +1 on the UAD stuff....
Also, at the time it crashed... according to the logs...the OP was running Ableton Live at the same time, presumably rewired with Logic... so add all that together with UAD plugins... and that's quite a load on the system...
Finally in thread 32 there is a weird exception msg relating to the Trash2 plugin.. that I haven't seen before...
    Thread 32:
    0   libSystem.B.dylib
    0x94c29afa mach_msg_trap + 10
    1   libSystem.B.dylib
    0x94c2a267 mach_msg + 68
    2   ...tope.audioplugins.AU.Trash2
    0x667bd57a catch_exception_raise + 250
    3   libSystem.B.dylib
    0x94c57259 _pthread_start + 345
    4   libSystem.B.dylib
    0x94c570de thread_start + 34
That might be nothing... but as i said, I haven't seen that one before and given what else is going on.. it might be involved too... or nothing to do with that at all!
