Logic Pro X speaker emulation / vintage sound?

I cannot for the life of me figure out how to use iZotope's "Vinyl" plug-in with the new Logic Pro X.  If this is not able to be used, is there another free plug that does a similar lo-fi/speaker emulation that anyone may know of?  Thank you in advance!

Yep, Ed's right, you can use those (impulse Responses) via Space Designer...

  • Logic Pro X slow, no external sound

    Brand new mac mini, 2.6GHz, OSX 10.8.4 - 16GB RAM - 250GB SSD Drive
    Using Logic Pro 10.0.1
Just got this computer today and logic pro x. having a few different issues:
    1. Midi works fine, i can play the soft synths but scrolling though presents is a little slow (just upgraded from my 2007 imac 2GB Ram, and it was faster scrolling through presets on this old machine!). too slow.
    2. Playing a softsynth will move my channel and master meters very slowly, they will appear as if they are still pushing through a signal 10 seconds or more after there is no sound - they are very, very slow and completely unrepresentative of what is occuring on that channel.
    3. Trying to record an external synth, i cannot hear any audio, even though the meter is showing that there is sound coming through (audio preferences are fine, audio interface is a roland studio capture that works with ableton live just fine; this same external synth records just fine in ableton live 9 on the same channel).
    4. Using a novation 49SL MKii controller, it does not control Logics mixing board. Already set it up in the preferences as a control surface.
_ tried repaiting permissions, unistalled and reinstalled Logic, to no avail. Also ran logic without the novation/automap and its still causing the same problems - somebody help me please! Dont want to have to work totally within Ableton.
    Thanks!

I suspect it will be a driver/hardware issue  relating to your GAR24M rather than anything to do with LPX.

  • Program Number in Logic Pro not retaining link to sound in ext midi keybd

I have Logic Pro 8 and a MAcbook connected via a Midi cable with a Yamaha CVP 109 keyboard which has its own really cool sounds.
I can record from the keyboard using the keyboard sounds into Logic Pro, and I can playback the results as long as I am within the same session (i.e. I have not closed down Logoc Pro or OI have not switched off the keyboard.
Problem 1 - If I switch off the keyboard, the Program number visible in the INspector in Logic Pro changes from say 40 to 0 every time. I see it happening in realtime on the screen. So if I subsequently save the Logic pro project, all the instrument program numbers are set to 0.
Problem 2 If instead of switching off the keyboard, I exit Logic Pro and reload the project, the program numbers are correct but they still play as if they are program 0. I have to select another number and go back to the one originally visible to get them to work.
As you can see the problems are related. Why is Logic Pro (after exitting and reopening the project) not connecting to the correct voice on the keyboard even though the program number is correct? Why does turning off the keyboard, reset the Program number for every MIDI track to 0?
Is there a setting that stops this happening?

Problem 1 - If I switch off the keyboard, the Program number visible in the INspector in Logic Pro changes from say 40 to 0 every time.
Hmm, that's very odd. Is the keyboard transmitting program change 0 when you switch it of? (Look at the monitor object in the Click&Ports layer of the environment and see what the keyboard transmits).
If so, you could always filter out received program changes to stop that happening.
Problem 2 If instead of switching off the keyboard, I exit Logic Pro and reload the project, the program numbers are correct but they still play as if they are program 0. I have to select another number and go back to the one originally visible to get them to work.
Just because the value is set to eg program 42 doesn't mean those program changes have been transmitted to the keyboard yet. In Project Settings -> MIDI -> General, make sure "Send used instrument settings" after loading project is checked (and as it's a song setting, you'll need to update your default startup templates so it always does it.)
This setting sends the used program changes when you load a song to set the external keyboards to the correct sounds.

  • Hi, I'm running Logic Pro 8 with an audiophile sound card. I have my keyboard midi-ed into the sound card and obviously plugged into the computer. I can't get any input into the computer though. Nothing registers when I play. Output is fine. Any help? Tha

    Hello,
My midi keyboard isn't registering on Logic Pro 8 and I can't work out why. It's all plugged up correctly. The sound card outputs fine - I can hear what I've previously recorded but can't input any more. Any help gratefully received.
    Stephen.

Hi, thanks for reply. I was running Logic Express but upgraded. Now I seem to have problems. I have latest drivers for my audiophile. The operating system is 10.4.11. The keyboard just doesn't seem to register - in or out. I've spent hours on the environment, trying to decide which of the conflicting video tutorials to follow......

  • Logic Pro X and Eleven Rack Sound Card Problem. Intermittent? MacBook Pro Yosemite. Anyone having this issue too?

    Ok,
Avid Eleven Rack Audio Interface with latest firmware into usb MacBook Pro running 10.10.3 (latest Yosemite)
Logic X and the sound card do not see the Eleven Rack all the time. *Intermittently*, but more often than not, I can't select the eleven rack as my interface either in Logic X Preferences>Audio>Devices or System Preferences>sound pref as the eleven rack does not show up in either list to be able to even select it.
Real pain when you are writing and have a flow of ideas and need to get a recording down. Anyone else having this issue? I have tried both usb ports in the macbook pro and the same results.
Of course I unplug and replug the usb cable. Still nothing. I have to quit Logic Pro X and restart to even get a chance for the eleven to even show up in either list.
Once I can select it then I also have a problem with being able to record (it records and gets input not prob) but on playback their is no output (with correct output selected) so I then have to use a Logic X template where the output is set exactly the same as what I am trying currently but for some reason it works with the template on the same exact settings. Mighty pain. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am going to try my Eleven on another computer to see what happens too but thought I would ask here.
    Thanks
    ejh

First make sure you are using the latest drivers...
    http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/en_US/Download/Eleven-Rack-Drivers
However the latest ones are not yet confirmed as working to OS X 10.10.3 so you may need to wait for an update from Avid....
    Test and see....
Note: It's always a good idea not to update OS X or Logic Pro until after you have checked if there are working drivers for your external hardware first.. especially, in my personal opinion... in the case of Avid hardware drivers which are know to lag behind in development..

  • Logic pro 9 Instrument issues/ weird sound occurring!!

    Hi guys,
I need some help here, I think I have a big issues here with my logic instruments. I just installed Logic pro 9 about a week ago, it's working fine until...
today when I load some of the Logic instruments (such as EFM 1 Synth, ES2, ES2 syth, or any other sytnh) from the library, there're some kind of strange/weird sound, kind of growling synth sound going on (weeeewww gurrrrrrrrt!), the volume level is also peaking out because of it. I still could play the instruments, but the weird growling sound doesn't stop, & the volume peak out even more!. the only logic instruments that works fine are Evb3 tonewheel organ, Utrabeat & Ev88 Electric piano.
Same things happen with most of my ESX24 instruments ( such as pop horns, guitar, orchestral, etc) weird growling sound (wew grrrrt).
    Does anyone know what's happening???
    Thank you

    Hi Eriksimon,
Yes, indeed the noise stop when I bypass the instrument.
Yes the noise seems to have a steady defined pitch & the character of the noise is the same as the affected instruments.
No I haven't try to load different presets at that time (it freaks me out already!)
No I don't think I've made any tweaks/ adaptation to the environment (could you give me example?).
*But Just now, at this moment, I just try to open & run my Logic 9 again & load the problematic instruments, The Noise's gone, I tried every instrument that has that noise problem (try different presets now) , it works fine, the noise gone (it surprise me). BUT STILL I'm afraid that this noise will occur again.
Do you have any idea ?,
    Thank you

  • Where does Logic Pro 9 store it's sounds?

I have a Macbook Pro OS X 10.6.6 and what I want to do is move Logic's library (including Jam Packs) over to my external hard drive. What I mean by the library is all the software synths, and effects, and maybe even the Apple Loops. Again, I don't mean the sounds that I would record myself. So is there a specific folder where all the sounds are located?

    Hi
Unfortunately, Logic looks in several places for different types of data files. The easiest way to free up some space might be to move some of the Apple Loops to a different drive (note that you may need to reindex the Logic loop browser).
By default, Apple Loops are stored in Library:Audio:Apple Loops:Apple  (30GB in here)
The Sampler Instruments (13GB) installed with the JamPacks are stored in Library:Application Support:Garageband:Instrument Library
I would not move these unless really necessary. You may have to re-link theSampler Instrument files with the Samples (Redmatica.com for Pro Manager makes this really easy).
Logic samples are installed in Library:Application Support:Logic (3GB)
Impulse Responses (by default) are now installed in Library:Audio (2GB)
Once again, the easiest way to free up some space is to move some of the AppleLoops. Anything else may well cause you more trouble than it's worth.

  • Logic pro x native instrument issue:   the vintage B3 organ doesn't work at all!

I installed logic pro x, and the vintage B3 organ doesn't work at all! Oddest thing? Help?
Yes, the little blue power "button" is pressed in the window for the organ.
Yes, my other instruments seem to be working just fine...

OK, I solved my problem - I don't know why I didn't see the other responses on this earlier. Turns out the midi output has to be set to channel 1....

  • Logic Pro X's "Drummer" is not recognizing my TD-6 cymbal on G2.

My TD-6 drumset, which works fine on all other Logic drumsets including Legacy, Garageband and even 3rd party EZ Drummer, does NOT work properly on Logic Pro X's new "Drummer" sounds on the "Left Cymbal" only.  Meaning the kits works fine on all other cymbals and pads.  Just the left cymbal does not work.
The "Sound" on the "Drummer" cymbal is:  C#2 and the pad plays G2 and a 2nd trigger of C#2 if hit hard or to the top.  Drummer, has only 1 sound...C#2.
Has anyone else had this issue with the new drummer sounds?  If so, other then changing the Roland TD-6 selection of location...how can I fix this?
This also means that the songs that I have recorded in Garageband, using the TD-6 and the MIDI code its produced, when moved to LOGIC, are all going to play G2, meaning NO sound or cymbal hit.  So all songs will be incorrect drum wise.  I would have to change each song separately. Moving the note of G2 to C#2 on the MIDI menu.
Why are the new sounds structured different MIDI wise then all other library sounds (including 3rd party), Logic Legacy and all garageband libraries?

  • How to record guitar in Logic Pro 8

    Hi,
Well, I´ve got a Mac Mini, Logic Pro 8, Audio Kontrol 1 audio interface, and an acoustic guitar. What I would like to do is to record my guitar songs into Logic Pro 8 and add other sound effects. My problem is, however, that I can´t figure out how to record guitar using Logic Pro 8. In the "Preferences" I choose "Core Audio" as device. I connect my guitar into the audio interface (Audio Kontrol 1) and from the audio interface to my Mac Mini using an USB.
When I start playing, Logic Pro is silent. When I record, there is no sound. What is even more strange is that GarageBand is working perfect! So I guess it has something to do with the settings in Logic Pro 8. So, I ask you guys...do you know have to solve this problem? If so, I would be very grateful!
    Best regards,
    Tor

    Thanks guys!
I will try this as soon as I come home!
I will let you know how it works.

Well, I mentioned the aggregate audio device since I saw this article. Is this possible for me? Why should I do this?

  • Audio Issue - Using Logic Pro and iMovie to Create Movies for Youtube

I am trying to use a combination of Quicktime, iMovie and Logic Pro 9 to create videos of me playing/singing songs to post on Youtube.  Before I can ask the question, I think it would be best to briefly explain my process, so here's one example:
One thing I try to do is video myself playing piano and singing at the same time.  What I do is open up Logic Pro and load my piano sound and arm an audio track that my microphone is plugged in to; I also go to "System Preferences" and click on "Sound" and make sure that my audio interface is selected for the input method.  Then, I open up Quicktime and select "New Movie Recording".  Finally, I open up my software for my interface and set it up for "loopback"...there's a picture below.
If you look at the bottom of the interface, you'll see it says "DAW 1: Loop Back 1" and "DAW 2: Loop Back 2".  Ideally, this means that whenever I start recording in Quicktime, all of the sounds that I am making in Logic (the piano playing and the singing) will loop back into the computer and be recorded by Quicktime.  This does actually happen, but my question is this:
I've noticed that the sound quality of software instruments is drastically reduced once they have been recorded by Quicktime (or iMovie) and I play the movie back.  Actual audio files, like me singing or playing a real instrument aren't really affected, but for some reason the software instruments sound very thin once I listen to the audio in the movie.  Why is this happening?  Is there a way to preserve the audio quality to be the same during video playback as it is when I am playing the instruments live in Logic?

Interesting and convoluted way to get something done.. from what you're describing it almost sounds like the software instruments are somehow getting recorded twice but slightly out of phase.
When you record your singing are you monitoring through headphones or speakers?

  • I am recording with Logic Pro X, using my Yamaha XS8 keyboard as a Midi controller. I also have a Thunderbolt Display. Every time I play and release a note on the keyboard, the Thunderbolt Display speaker emits a doink sound. How do I get it to stop?

I am recording with Logic Pro X, using my Yamaha XS8 keyboard as a Midi controller. I also have a Thunderbolt Display. Every time I play and release a note on the keyboard, the Thunderbolt Display speaker emits a doink sound. What is causing it and how do I get it to stop? My sound is running through the Saffire Pro 40 Interface (Focusrite) into external speakers with powered amps.
Also, When I record I am hearing little pops in the system. I have checked all of my meters and they are not clipping. What is causing it and how do I get it to stop?

    Pancenter,
Thanks for the response, but I do not have a midi interface. I am using a midi to usb connector cable, thus bypassing the need for a Midi interface.
The Mac reads the USB cable as a midi device, but not the keyboard that I am trying to use as a controller. I have tried it with my korg sp 300 and with my Nord Electro 2.
    Thoughts?
    Thanks,

    Tristan...
This is what you have, correct?
    http://www.alesis.com/usbmidicable
    This from Alesis..
"The AudioLink Series USB cable receives and outputs MIDI signal thanks to its internal interface. The USB-MIDI Cable connects plug-and-play to your Mac or PC for an all-in-one USB-MIDI solution."
Notice, -internal interface-. What you have is a simple USB MIDI Interface. Most MIDI interfaces are USB.
My point is (was), MIDI OUT of the Korg goes to the connector marked MIDI IN on the Alesis, those new to MIDI often get this wrong.

  • How can I use the sounds of the Yamaha Motif XF6 in Logic Pro 9?

I have Logic Pro 9 on my Mac Book. I also have a Yamaha Motif XF 6 synthesizer. Instead of using Logic's software instruments I would like to record the sounds of the Motif directly into Logic.
I have been told that an audio interface is necessary for this. What kind of audio interface would be good for this? Any in particular?
And, once I have obtained the interface, what steps do I need to take to hook up the Motif into Logic to utilize the Motif's sound bank?
Detailed steps would help, as this is new stuff for me.
    Thanks!

Since this is a user forum only, and your questions will take a lot of time to answer you might want to check both the Logic manual and the XF6 manual. The XF6 has possibilities such that you may not need and Audio interface if the Firewire option is present.
Also you have a built in USB MIDI interface as well, you will need to download the Yamaha MIDI driver.
Read Exploring Logic Pro, especially chapter five, you can record your performance via MIDI, edit it and then commit to audio.
    Dig in.

I'm not sure I follow your words Fuzzynormal. You've helped by offering the insight that my issue in Logic Pro 9 is not a bug but a feature. But fell short of enlightenment by being a judge of character and of how one should interact in this forum. You insinuate that I haven't tried to solve the issue on my own when in fact I have. These forums are always my last resort. You further suggest that I am complaining. This is not a complaint. It is a genuine issue that I cannot figure out. Then you think that Brazeca is holding my hand and being a nice guy. Brazeca is helping people like me who might not be as adept at using Logic Pro as probably you are. This community forum was established to raise questions, answers and dicussion to help Apple's customers better undertand their operating systems and related issues.
