Logic pro x-way too GPU intensive?

ssia.........i've been having to go back to logic 9 to finish projects because, even though my cpu is fine, my computer is getting hot and laggy because of the gpu issues, esp. when connected to my 27in thunderbolt........anyone else getting this?

You may well find a major improvement in second screen performance once Mavericks is released... Many users of the Dev versions have reported improvments in both second screen and multi screen performance with many apps including Logic, when using Mav....
However Insight (and Ozone 5 for that matter) is known to be extremely demanding and not very well optimized for the Mac...  Even the latest v1.02 version is somewhat unstable too...though slightly more optimized...and so I am not surprised you are having issues running that plugin.... I gave up using Ozone 5 myself for these very reasons... even though I liked what it was capable of doing.. but the load it placed on my systems and its general instability, just didn't warrant it's inclusion and use any longer... in my setups.

  • Fusion HDR Pro  32bit way too dark

    Hi,
I often use Fusion HDR Pro in 32bit mode with final ajustements in ACR to control high contrast situations.
I now have un issue in PS CC 2014 with a fusion image (in ACR) which is way too dark and contrasty.
The same treatment in PS CC (not 2014) with the same images works fine.
Any idea what could be the problem?
    Thanks,
    Jo

After some researches, I deleted the Photoshop folder with all the presets an restarted PS, Fusion HDR works fine again.

Any help would be appreciated. The troubleshooting sections of the manual and the Power! books dont have an answer. It doesn't appear to be related to the settings and preferences within Logic 9, but I could be wrong.
Any help is appreciated. If this needs to be asked somewhere just point me in the right direction.
This only happens during recording. I am using a Focusrite Saffire 6 USB souncard to record if this helps.

Not a whole lot actually, and I've never tried to record more than one track at a time. I don't seem to have this problem while editing, bouncing. Occasionally I will get an "Out Of Memory!" message. Now, I have 8 gigs of whatever the ****'s in there that was recommended for this laptop, and the 'memory circle' in activity monitor with the red, yellow and blue slices rarely show as being more than half of the green. For instance:
I haven't been doing alot of recording lately, as I am working to complete David Divorn's advanced logic pro book. (So far) I haven't had any problems with the lessons, all of them editing-based. Though I am also saving all of the project files to the lacie rugged external frewire drive just in case.
I'm someone who tries to get as much education on the problem. I've used Sonar for 10 years on a PC...and have only been using Logic and a macbook pro since september. I love the SSD otherwise....instant shutdown, 15 second reboot and start-up, apps open fast....I wouldn't know WHY this couldn't handle audio, but I admit I don't know anything about how this stuff works except it blows the PC I had out of the water. All of the issues I had with that are non-existant on this.
-- I did find a few articles dated over a year or two old that cautioned about using an SSD for audio vs a 7200rpm (conveniently these articles like to present themselves after I've made the purchase and upgrade.

  • MacBook Pro gets way too hot. Performance suffers

I have a 2012 MacBook Pro and have found that it is incapable of handling either a simple game, multiple applications, or an additional monitor without running into some extreme heat problems. I realize that an additional monitor may be too much for a laptop (although even if I'm just using it for extra real estate for web browsing and stuff, it shouldn't be that taxing, right?), but otherwise, I can't believe the heat it generates. After a certain point, I notice that the computer's performance starts to get very sluggish. I've started setting the laptop on a block of ice just to counteract this...the block has about the same area of the computer's base and is probably 1/2 inch thick. It melts completely in about 30-40 minutes.
The fans are functional, but they just don't seem to be enough. Does anyone know of a very good cooling pad/stand that may help with this? This ice situation is a little ridiculous. To be clear, I'm not doing something like playing Starcraft 2 on a dual monitor setup with iTunes and Photoshop running...what causes the heat is far less than that.

VictryRos here are corresponding screenshots for a two year old MacBook Air - a Mac far less capable than your MacBook Pro:
It's running Safari, with Flash running, as well as Firefox, in addition to iTunes, Pages, QuickTime Player and several other programs. It has the same amount of RAM as your MBP (4 GB) and it's loafing.
Whatever Chrome is doing, it's doing poorly. If you want your Mac to run well get rid of it.

  • Macbook Pro (R) Way Too Hot

I have a Mid 2012 Macbook Pro Retina Display 15 inch and I've been having a problem with the fans running full blast and being very loud when I do simple activities such as watching a Youtube video on Chrome. When I check the activity moniter, it hovers around 50-80% CPU usage for Chrome Helper. I just contacted support and did an SMC reset. After that I installed something to check temperatures, and the CPU cores were over 100 degrees C while just watching a video. The fans run at almost 6000 RPM. This has not been an issue the whole time I've had the computer. I think it might have started when I installed Mavericks, but I'm not sure. The Apple support people on the phone told me that I should reinstall the OS, but I would like to avoid that because I have Bootcamp and a Windows partition on my computer as well. Is there anything else I can try to fix this? (Sorry if this is in the wrong place or anything. This is my first post because I am really confused and concerned by this problem)

  • Logic Pro 8 and Lion

Does Logic Pro 8 work OK with Lion? I've heard conflicting views.

    Hi
I suggested a "safety rename" of the Logic Pro application that you already have installed, which I suspect is currently called simply 'Logic Pro' (without the apostrophes).
If & when you install Logic Pro (v9), it too will be named 'Logic Pro' (no '...'), and I cannot remember the installer auto renames the old (8) version.

  • Does anyone know if apple's one-to-one program would be a good way to learn how to use logic pro or am I better off going to school to learn audio engineering or something?

Of course going to school would be a good option, but I want to know if one-to-one is also a good way to learn how to use logic pro. Has anyone been through the one-to-one program for logic pro and can say that they learned how to use logic pro well because of it?

For sure, one to one training, if given by a tutor who is capable, will hand you the means to build up self-confidence  and will therefore let you operate the hard/software in an intelligent manner, instead of going for the trial and error method which has its pro's and con's too. Once you've passed this beginners phase you will make your own decisions intelligently and then you will also start to get experience and learn even from your mistakes. Something like that in theory and the rest is up to you!
    Have a nice day

A week before logic X comes out it starts bugging out... i deleted a bunch of stuff on my HD and cleaned up everything... didnt fix anything... then logic x came out and I though oh i better update that will fix everything... and im still having the same problems... its rediculous.
Umm,, no offence... but what is ridiculous...  is you didn't troubleshoot the original problem but instead you assumed it was a LP9 problem so you updated to LPX which is still in its early days and is likely to be less stable than LP9... rather than more so!
    So.. Here's the thing....
LP9 was working fine and then stopped working normally according to you. Therefore what changed at the time LP9 stopped working normally?
Here are just a few ideas to think about.. for around the time this started..
Did you update Logic Pro 9... OS X... Drivers for Midi/Audio or other connected devices?
If you did, did you then restore from a backup you made prior to these problems occuring and what happened when you did so? (assuming you do make backups of your system?)
Did you install any new Apps on your Mac?
Did you add a new Hard Drive? How is it formatted?
Did you start recording or creating music in a different way to how you used to before the problem started?
Have you started using a different SI or FX plugin or plugins.. More or different FX for example.. Did you install a new version of a plugin?
Is all your software legal? (Have to ask because some people install all kinds of illegal plugins and whatever else.. and have no idea how the 'cracks' work or what they might affect/mess up/conflict with in the process)
Have you looked at the System logs to see if anything is happening out of the ordinary when you get these messages?
Have you looked at OS X's Activity monitor to see if any app or routine is kicking in hard when you get this issue?
Basically, you need to think about and look for what changed... because something apparently changed to suddenly cause these issues...given you said you didn't have them until a certain timeframe and some of the questions above, I hope, will get you thinking..
....and maybe a few of the others here will come up with other ideas and suggestions to help you...
Good luck and let us know how you got on...

  • Logic Pro 8 - same old 'system overload' and 'disk too slow' errors

I am having serious issues with Logic Pro 8 on my macbook pro. I am running it with a Focusrite Saffire LE firewire interface.
I am only using it to playback two stereo files, as a backing track and a click for live performance. I can seem to leave it running all day at home without a problem but when I try and use it in rehearsal it trips up either straight away or half way through a track. It gives either 'disk too slow', 'system overload' or 'unable to sync audio and midi' error messages. This is obviously rendering it unusable. I have tried all the usual tweaks associated with this problem but to no avail.
I am reluctant to believe it is a hardware issue because I have Cubase 5 on the same laptop and that runs like a dream all night without the slightest hiccup. Obviously I have been using that instead.
Having done many internet searches about this it does appear to be a common problem but with no definitive fix.
Did anyone else getting these issues ever fix it?

    Jazzmaniac wrote:
That has nothing to do with logic. If your had disk becomes slow in rehearsals then it's very likely the hard disk acceleration sensor kicking in to protect your drive from damage. Strong vibrations will cause the heads to park, significantly reducing the the seek times and the transfer rates. Jazz
How does that explain the OP's statement:
"I am reluctant to believe it is a hardware issue because I have Cubase 5 on the same laptop and that runs like a dream all night without the slightest hiccup. Obviously I have been using that instead."
I think it has more to do with Logic's disk access and buffering system.
It's true that vibrations can cause data mis-reads as the drive head has to re-read the data, however part of the problem lies with Logic's buffering. I don't think the sudden motion sensor (sms) is kicking in, just that the drive may be having to re-read data and Logic's buffering system can't handle the slight interrupts.
I've dealt with the exact same situation locally (for a client), we ended up using an old bass drum case to make a padded rest for the MBP, that eliminated 90% of the problem.

  • Logic Pro 9: Delay when there are too many tracks

    Hello
I'm using the latest Logic Pro 9 with OSX 10.9.5. on a MacMini (late 2012)
Every time I reach a certain number of tracks in a project (around 70 or 80, complex Dance Music) I suddenly have a huge delay between "what I see" and "what I hear"..
This means: If I press play, everything looks normal, but the audio arrives half a second later than what I see.
When I want to play a midi note, I have a delay too.
    This is very irritating.
I tried out everything in the audio settings (buffer size etc.)
I also tried to freeze all the tracks, it didn't work.
The only thing working is to delete many tracks. (Of course I don't want that)
    Any ideas?
    Thank you

    Hi, Matley.
It could be that your memory is full.
I have one project that has 60 odd tracks. Some audio, some software instruments. If I open this after I've opened a few other LP projects it won't run properly. If you are using lots of software instruments - especially those  that are CPU intensive - your RAM will max out and everything slows down or doesn't run properly.
I have 16G of RAM on my 2012 mac mini.
This article may help -  https://support.apple.com/en-au/HT203930
Another thing to try is Low Latency mode. This limits the amount of RAM plugins use. I've had to use it occasionally and it does makes a large project run smoother.
    Hope this helps.

  • Pop up window saying Memory is too low to continue in Logic. Why?Way to Fix?

I recently purchased my IMac OSX 10.6.3 as well as Logic. I have about a half dozen projects on my hard drive now, which is also being backed up to a "time machine" external drive. The projects are pretty small( just piano, or piano and string quartet, etc.) I also just installed Office Suite for Mac and the full Adobe Creative Suite.
Recently when I have been working in the Score Editor(In Logic Pro 9), a pop up window appears saying something to the effect of "memory is getting low, don't install more plugins and remove any unused ones." Then today, after that pop up, another one showed up and said "memory is too low to continue. we will close project, autosave, etc. etc."
Why is this happening? Is there not enough memory on my computer? Will this actually effect editing procedures in Logic? (because it seems like some things aren't working like they used to) Is there a quick and easy fix? Is this related to space remaining on hard drive, or is it completely different? Could it be related to the IMAC backing up files to my "time machine" drive at the same time I am working in LOGIC?
Could someone who has a little time on their hands please answer these questions IN DETAIL? I am new to MAC and LOGIC, so I really have no Idea what's going on with the memory issue. I don't even understand how MEMORY corresponds to available space, quality of running programs, etc.
Please help. I'm working on a deadline to finish a Master's portfolio and this could potentially be a big bump in the road for me.
    Thanks....

The System Requirements for Logic Studio call for a minimum or 1 GB RAM with 2 GB recommended. So you should not have a problem with your 4 GB.
First make sure your RAM is being recognized by your computer. Go to Apple Menu (apple in upper left hard corner and click on "About this Mac". Make sure it say 4 GB. Ram chip at times will go bad or become unseated.
Now for troubleshooting, here is what I would do. The next time you want to use Logic, restart your computer. Restarting "flushes" the RAM; it may not sound like it but that is a good thing. Then do not open any other programs other than Logic (except ones you may need for it). You listed an awesome group of software you own. Your computer is not set up for all these programs to automatically start up when you turn on the computer, is it??
So I am betting that you will not get the low memory message when only Logic is working. With some trial and error you will be able to open more and more programs at the same time without effecting Logic.
You can better understand your RAM by opening Activity Monitor (Applications >> Utilities >> Activity Monitor). Click on the System Memory tab at the bottom and you can visualize what your RAM (Memory) is doing. There is also a list of programs that are open and what resources they are sucking up.
Good luck with your computer and your masters.

Looks as if you're just at the minimum specs - http://www.apple.com/logicpro/specs/. Says 2GB minimum, 4GB recommended. And 2GB of RAM is all the RAM the 1,1 can handle. If I were you I would call Apple's App Store service center - you have the minimum requirements, as I read it, but perhaps you need a faster processor?
I had a 1,1 but sold it when I bought my late 2011 in March of this year - maybe it's time to look at a new machine?

What cable do I need for a full migration from a 2011 MacBook Pro to a new current one-wireless migration way too slow.?

All you need is an Ethernet cable.
Just plug it into both machines. Don't bother with a crossover cable, just a plain old Ethernet cable will do. The Ethernet ports on the Macs are smart and will adjust appropriately.

The installer for Logic Pro 8 has a bug which keeps it from operating in Lion or Mt. Lion.  Use the program Pacifist to install it.

  • Loaded Instruments Too Quiet in Logic Pro X

    Hi,
    Firstly here is my setup:
    Mac
    iMac 21.5-inch, Late 2012
    3.1GHz Intel Core i7
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 512 MB
    OS X 10.9.4
    Logic
    Logic Pro X
    Version 10.0.7
I use Logic with Kontakt and PLAY for loading different sample libraries.
    PLAY version 4.1.8
    Kontakt version 5.3.1.37
(As far as I know; all of this is as up to date as it can be as of the time of writing)
    Now the problem:
Very simply put, instruments seem to be loading from either Kontakt or PLAY at low volumes, when they never have before. The reason I have asked this question in a Logic forum is because I have started to notice Logic only instruments doing the same thing. For example, the default software instrument: Classic Electric Piano, nearly always loads quietly. I have to select another instrument, then go back to the Classic Electric Piano for it to load at the correct volume.
Now to expand on this issue, I notice that the levels of the track indicated in Logic are still at a reasonable volume - and supposedly as high/loud as other instruments. But when I play notes on the quieter track the output volume through my iMac's builtin speakers is extremely low. In order to counteract this, I have been turning up the volume for these quiet tracks in the mix, as well as adding compression to increase the volume - but the downside of this is that the overall quality of the instrument is lost because it also turns up all the other things in the track (i.e. natural reverb, feedback and fuzziness) that would normally be unheard when the instrument plays at the correct volume.
I hope I have explained this well enough. It is hard to describe what happens without you actually hearing the difference. I do not really know what has caused this to happen - is it Logic? PLAY? Kontakt? Or even my builtin speakers? Do I need some external ones? - and it seems to have started quite randomly. It also seems to randomly happen on any instrument in either Logic, PLAY or Kontakt.
Hopefully someone will have some idea of what I can do to fix this problem and return my instrument's to their default output volume without the need for compression.
    Thanks,
    and with kind regards,
    Charles

I haven't used Logic  X yet, but previously there was a preference regarding whether a new track would load the default Electric Piano.
So the way you're describing it, turning that off would fix your problem?  Although I don't know why it's so quiet and perking up after switching instruments.
I have noticed that when I load evp88 (is that what it's called?) into a blank audio inst track, it's really low.  I just assumed that how it was.
If things are buggier than this, you can always check 6. 7. and 8. of the Apple Support Logic troubleshooting list:

    good luck!
