Logic Pro7 - Logic Studio (8) for sale?

Hello everyone.
I'd like to share my dilemma with you.
I bought LogicStudio last week and wanted to update from Pro7 to 8. Well easy enough, I just needed to buy a bigger Hard Disc, because my old system disc was almost full. So I did that and then went on to finish one project in Pro7. After that I wanted to install 8!! However at the last hurdle the Pro7 dongle stopped working. None of my computers (i.e. G5, MacBook & iMacG3) is seeing the dongle anymore - it's basically BROKEN (I didn't wanna use the F word here)!
Went to the Apple store, but they don't deal with "outdated" software and hardware - could have saved that journey...
Instead I rang Apple care. Not only did I have to speak to someone who doesn't speak English very well, but also I had to learn that a replacement dongle will cost me £65 (€130). And I will need this dongle in order to install the upgrade version of Logic Studio (even if I didn't want to use Pro7 anymore).
Well I managed to speak to the supervisor at the call centre and his English was understandable. However my Pro7 was originally purchased by my ex-employer (a college where I used to teach Logic and Music Production) and I am not able to produce the original proof of purchase, which Apple wants to see.
As I can't afford the £65 (€130) to buy a new dongle I have decided to re-sell my 'brand-new' and 'un-used/registerred' version of Logic Studio for the same price I bought it for (£129 ovno) so then I can buy the new dongle and carry on using Pro7....
Bummer ! ! !

When you say you bought Logic 8, my guess is you meant you bought the upgrade from 7 to 8, which is alot cheaper but requires the dongle from 7 to install and authorise it.
So i understand your problem is -
you haven't used 8 yet but now you can't use 7, or upgrade to 8, because your dongle is broken.
That is a bummer - you could try selling the upgrade for the original price to buy a second hand 7, but this seems a shame, effectively selling a new version to buy an old one.
7 goes for between 50 - 100 of your english pounds on ebay.
I don't think you'll get the original price for the upgrade, but you could maybe raise £100ish...
Is £65 so much to raise to properly upgrade? Best bet I reckon.

  • Uograde to Logic Studio just for Sculpture?

I'm really happy with Logic Express, and have added a lot of multi sampled libraries for the EXS24. But
I do love physical modelling syntheszers because they can emulate acoustic plucked instruments really well, and I've heard that Sculpture is a physical modelling synth. But surprisingly there are no videos about this synth on youtube.
So, is it a good idea to upgrade to Logic Studio just to get Sculpture? If not, should I get Applied Acoustic Studio's (physical modelling synth)"String Studio VS-1, instead?

AAS String Studio is indeed a great Plug In but it sounds nothing like Sculpture and isn't as versatile. String Studio can create very special sounds as well as bread&butter stuff, the fretless basses sound great, the guitars not so much and you can get some incredible experimental sounds and pads out of it as well but it has more limited modulation and editing capabilities than Sculpture.
In Sculpture you can sidechain an Audio Input to trigger/disturb the string yielding to incredible results like rythmical textures (if you e.g. use a drumlooop/sequencer as sidechain Input) which you can't achieve with String Studio. Also you can record Midi controller data and turn that into a sequenced loop which is another fantastic feature of Sculpture. The characteristic of the plucked string can be anything between nylon, metal, glass or wood, abusing the parameters let's you create instruments you've never heard of. Also the morphing feature is great where you can dynamically morph between different aspects of a sound all synced to the clock of your DAW. The Jitter LFO´s are very useful too and the Modulation matrix as a whole is very well developed.
So I would say yes, upgrade to L8 (there are many other reasons for that by the way) and you'll be a happy musician/producer.

  • Best computer for logic studio

hi I am running logic express on my G4 & soon i want to upgrade my computer to one which will run logic studio comfortably for the next few years, what i want to know is would the processing power an 8 core G5 be overkill, would logic studio use this processing power or would a quad core be sufficient or even a powerbook. I dont want to overspend but then I want to run the program as smoothly & quickly as possible. thanks

Logic supports multi processing quite well. So you can take advantage of all of the cores that your machine supplies. There are some minor restrictions, but in general it scales quite well. Anyhow, I believe from what you write and that you can actually work on a G4 currently that you'll be more than happy with any recent iMac or Mac notebook. Don't spend your money on something that you don't need. Mac Pros are very fine machines, but they're also quite expensive and way too powerful for the average user.
    Cheers,
    Jazz

  • What desk/interface for logic studio 8

Ive recently bought logic studio 8 for my mac but dont know what interface or even usb desk to get. Would firewire be better? Ive only got a budget of around £200.00, i would use it for mainly recording guitar/ bass, keys and vocals. Ive had a look at a PHONIC Helix Board 12 Mixing Console, any good?
    Cheers

Please bare with me, as I'm not a computer expert (especially when it comes to video cards) but what is the problem with his current video card? How would upgrading a video card help make music?
edit: I discovered my video card is an ATI Radeon 9800 XT, so its indeed a different card. Sorry about that, but it is still a PCI video card. Does this make a difference?

  • Logic Studio HE License

I've just ordered Logic Studio from the HE Store for my new Macbook Pro but I plan on buying an iMac after MacWorld.
I'm just wondering if the license for Logic Studio allows for the software to be installed on more than one computer if I own them both and will only be using one at any one time.
    Thanks

  • Logic pro 8 to logic studio 9

After having logic studio 9 for a long time my computer crashed so I used a time machine backup and I was back on logic pro 8 and now it says I'm entering the wrong serial # or to enter an sxkey help please!, thanks

Your version of Logic 9 will have a different serial number than Logic 8.  Do you have your Logic 8 serial number written down or stored somewhere?
Also, it's possible to contact Apple Support and see if they can issue you a new serial number for Logic 8, but you need some kind of proof of purchase.  I had to do that as I lost the paperwork that had my serial number on it, but because I still had my receipt from purchasing Logic 8 they were able to issue me a new serial number.

  • How can I de register my copy of Logic studio for re-sale

    Hello,
How can I de register my copy of Logic studio for re-sale.
Its the latest version and I do not use it at all, I would like to de register it so I can sell it to someone who will have some use for it.
    Thanks in advance
    S

Think of this as your automobile.
Do you want just anyone running down to the local license registrar and saying "oh I bought this new car and I want the title now in my name".
You have to understand, with as many stolen devices as there must be floating around, the carrier needs some confirmation that previous owner intends for it to be moved. After all, it is their account.
Still said, I know for a fact that O2 has done this in the past, and still will. If I were you, I would call back and use the suggestions above in speaking with them.

  • Which version is good for me to buy? Logic 8 express or Logic studio?

As I said in another post, I did till now all my work in Garageband. I compose mainly classical music for all kind of instruments, I don't do anything with electronic music, nor do I write pop kind of music. What I did in Garageband was setting up my tracks for the orchestra instruments, or solo piano, or chamber instruments, give them a pan position according to the Jam pack orchestra manual, and added at the end of the recording some reverb. The result is mostly good enough but especially for bigger instrumental groups, like orchestra or strings, I am not happy with the result.
This is the reason I am looking around in the Logic 8 world. I want to have better results. My question now is should I buy Logic Studio or Logic 8 express?
What is the difference between the two except the extra jam packs? I already have the Orchestra and voices jam pack and have many orchestral sound fonts that I bought in the past.
Mainstage is meant to be used for stage performence, right? I will never use something like that if it is, or maybe I didn't understand yet what Mainstage is about.
Studio effects: Logic 8 express does also have reverb effect, but are they good enough to make a good classical orchestral recording? Or do I need Studio for this?
Soundtrack Pro 2: A wave editor. This maybe I could use although I never felt the need for this in Garageband. Still, you never know.
SO what do I miss exactly when buying the express version?
Hope to get some advice on this.
    Andr+e

Continue to use GarageBand until some new update for Logic Pro is released because upon opening your GarageBand 09 v5.0.1 projects into Logic Pro 8.0.2 you will receive the message, "Warning! This Project was created by a newer Logic Pro version. This may cause problems. Please update Logic Pro." After I hit "OK", a message says, "Logic Pro: Plug-in “Pedals” not available!, and then "Logic Pro: Plug-in “AmpSim2” not available!
Logic Pro is not for sampling right now because of my experience using it with my Mac Pro (Early 2008) 8 Core 3.2GHz, 32 Gig RAM, and Quadro FX 5600. I told the Apple store sales guy at the Apple Store that I needed comparable hardware and software for my new Mac Pro comparable to my Tascam GigaSampler PC workstation. He also had me get advice from the top trainer for Apple Logic Pro One to One training at their store. I made it clear my needs were to have the same capabilities and performance at that time that are possible with Tascam GigaSampler. The trainer said he sold his PC he used for sampling. So, in order to afford my Mac Pro, I sold my PC. Big mistake. Now I have not been able to continue working on many projects, now in the in-progress archive of mine, that I can not open anymore because Logic will not access even 3 Gigs of memory for projects with the EXS24 or any other sampler for that matter. With my Tascam Gigasampler accessing 16 Gigs was a breeze with no error messages. This enhancement will not be available until some update is released for Logic Pro above version 8.0.2.

  • Pro Applications Update 2008-02 Update for Logic Studio Owners?

I received Compressor 3.0.3 as part of the Logic Studio 8 bundle.
Pro Applications Update 2008-02 states that it upgrades Compressor 3.0.3, however, Software Update does not offer to update Compressor nor can I download it manually since it is demanding that I provide a Final Cut Pro serial number (which I do not have, I have only the Logic Studio serial number which it won't take).
Does anyone have any idea what Logic Studio owners are supposed to do to obtain Pro Applications Update 2008-02?
    Dave

Well, I would agree except that the update specifically provides an update for Compressor 3.0.3 which Logic Studio owners have as well and the update description states that it is recommended for all Logic Studio users.
"Pro Applications Updates improve reliability for Apple's professional applications and are recommended for all users of Final Cut Studio, Final Cut Server, and Logic Studio.
Pro Applications Update 2008-02 addresses installation issues, compatibility updates, and general performance issues and improves overall stability.
    Applications included in the update:
    Final Cut Pro 6.0.4
    Compressor 3.0.3"

  • Which new Mac Pro for Logic Studio?

    Hi everyone,
I'm on the verge of ordering a new Mac Pro, but am tossed up over the quad 2.93 or the Octa 2.26. I'll be using it mainly for composing with Logic Studio. I find its a bit of a pain to record the sounds from my Motif ES8, so I'm going to start using software instruments more.
Does anyone know if Logic uses multiple cores? I googled this and couldn't find much on it.
If I get the quad, I'm going to load it to the max of 8G RAM. If I get the Octa 2.26, I will get 12G RAM. Will Logic take advantage of the extra RAM?
Right now, I'm leaning towards the quad 2.26. I keep my Macs for a long time. I currently have a 4 year old G5 iMac with 2G RAM.
    Thanks for any opinions.

    I'm With Dual G5 PowerPC version 3.1 (90nm thecnology)
Logic works fine, but when I need to recording with Omnisphere or Kontakt 3... or any Live Instruments... (anyway I'm able to use the Maximum power request patches of all 3rd party plugs that are installed in My G5)
I need MORE SINGLE THREAD POWER... because Logic and most of 3rdparty plugs allow you to use ONLY ONE CORE (or processor).
The ability to overclocking of the Nehalem processor is very interesting...
you will be able to have up to 3.3Ghz in a single thread operation!
So... I'm not sure to buy a new Mac before Snow Leopard... because I can use my G5 smoothly and if needed I have my Black Macbook for adding power (I have 2X Motu interface (828 MK3 and Mk2).
But if hypothetically I were to buy now...: the best Mac value for money semms to be the Quad 2.93 with full Ram set 8GB!
I don't believe about Multitrhead is needed for Live Audio performances
The power on the single core is very important...
I love to export as Audio the tracks
when I use 3rd party Instruments the ammount of crash risk during the Mix down the percentage are:
with Instruments in Live mode about 80% during professional mixdown
With Audio tracks 0% of crash diring professional Mixdown
Logic Pro is a rock solid DAW if used only with Audio tracks and Logic native instruments!
I'm able to MIX more than 160 Stereo tracks with My System...
I can wait for Snow Leopard Machines.

  • Help!!! The best audio interface for Logic Studio

    Hey y'all,
I'm looking for an audio interface. Requirements are: microphone- (XLR), instrument- (1/4") and midi-connectors. I'd like to record everything 1 by 1 all by myself, without audio playback/slowing-down issues. I'm quite new with recording and have no idea which one suits my system and software the best. I want to record as easy as possible and with the most beautiful results available. Price range of up to €500.
    My MacBook Pro:
    Mac OS X 10.6.8
Processor 2.66 GHz Intel Core i7
    Geheugen 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
    My software: Logic Studio
    Thanks!

If Midi connectivity is important: Focusrite Saffire 6 (USB). Check out the User Guide:
    http://www.focusrite.com/downloads/saffire_6_usb/
Otherwise, I would strongly recommend Mackie's Onyx Blackjack, especially when also out gigging. Check out the product page and you can also download an Owner's Manual:
    http://www.mackie.com/products/onyxblackjack/
I use the Mackie . User Guides/Manuals are a great way of checking out detail about a product when deciding what to buy.
I thought that Sennheiser were well known for headphones, not microphones.

  • Mac Pro for Logic Studio...advice?

    Hi Folks,
I am contemplating the purchase of a Mac Pro specifically for running Logic Studio, and would like to know what significance multiple processors have on its performance.
Money is tight so I am considering the single processor option, based on the fact that in the past most applications did not make much use of the second processor. However I am a recent defector from Digital Performer and have no idea what the story is with the latest version of Logic.
My needs are fairly humble, not doing anything that really requires massive amounts of tracks. However I don't want to be filled with regret later.
I am contemplating the base model with one processor and then adding an additional 8GB of ram and 2 x 1 terrabyte drives. Would run the system and apps from the 320GB drive, and partition the first 1TB drive with a recording partition and a storage partition. I would use the second 1TB drive for backups.
Would appreciate some feedback from more experienced users....
    Thanks!!!!

i opted for the 8-core because logic can use them. but i am also using sample libraries a lot, so i needed decent horsepower. however, i feel that this 8-core mac pro has the potential to last a good while. especially when ssd drives drop in price later this year and will make sample streaming and system operations a breeze.

  • No Soundtrack Pro or ProApp updates for Logic Studio users?

I attempted to download updates for Soundtrack Pro and the ProApp update but was asked for a Final Cut serial number - - whichm as a Logic Studio owner I do not have. So what's up - - are these updates not signifcant for those who purchased and use Logic Studio? Please advise.

You shouldn't need to go to the download page, just run software update and it should show up. Do any OS and Pro App updates first, the STP upgrade won't show up there until you do.

  • Im installing logic studio and its asking me for an original SN?

I put in my Product serial number then it asks me to put in my original serial number. I have no idea where that number is. No number Ive used has worked so far.

Did you buy an upgrade to Logic Studio? If so, you need to enter the old serial number first and then the application will ask you for the upgrade number. Also make sure you type it correctly 0 = Zero and O = Ohhh, etc.
