Logic pro8/ mac pro/motu828mk2

hello,
just got a mac pro and upgraded to logic 8. have used 6.4.1 on my power book for years with no real problems.
I can't seem to get the new mac to recognize the motu 8282mk2 ,
can anyone help? it won't appear in the audio drivers (device) at all.
thanks

I'm sure that you have installed the last driver version.
if not, go to www.motu.com and download the version 1.4.x Firewire UB drivers

  • RealStrat and Kontakt 3 - How are they for you Logic 8/Mac Pro?

    Hi
I'm thinking on splurging on these two products to use in Logic 8 with an Intel Mac Pro. How are they for you? Do they work OK? I don't see too many negative comments here so I'm assuming that they're working OK. I'll go look the Native Instruments and MusicLab forums as well but thought there might be those here who could comment.

K3 works fine on my 8-core since version 3.01 - actually 3.02 is buggy again so don´t upgrade to the latest version of K3 which is 3.02.
If there would not be the annoying 2 Gigabyte RAM limit within 32-Bit applications I would be even happier, but if you need more Sample space just setup an additional K3 in standalone mode and wire it through the IAC Bus.
If you use it in multitimbral mode with multiple outputs you'll have to write any automation onto the assigned Aux tracks as automating the single Midi tracks for K3 does not work.
Altogether K3 is an awesome mashine with clear improvements compared to K2.

  • Logic on Mac pro, virtual instruments on PC, best way to connect?

Hi all, I use Logic 9 on Mountain Lion as my main daw,
I want to send midi from logic to my pc running some virtual instruments and also ideally get the audio back from the pc into my Mac over ethernet etc without leaving the digital environment
I know people have done this, just don't know how or what would be the best way?
    any ideas?
    cheers, Robert

  • Logic with Mac Pro

I hope this is in the right forum but please forgive me if not. Would it be better to have 2 or 3 hard drives with the system on one and samples on another or 3 hard drives in a RAID 5?
If it would be better to have them in a RAID would it be best to partition the RAID volume?
    Thanks.
    Jon

Of course the setup depends (hehe) on the setup... I just gave a 'framework'. Also, what you are saying is why the two disk option is to record audio to disk 2. However, if you only rarely record audio, or *only one track stereo at a time,* but use enormous sample libraries, it might be wise to stream samples from disk 2 and record to the system disk. You could record to the samples disk, but then I would make sure every track is either frozen or bounced, so that no samples are accessed during the recording ( always a good idea imho).
Anyhoe, you're quite right and it's a valuable addition to the 'framework'.

  • Help! Logic Express 8 does not work on my Mac Pro with OS 10.5.1

Hello, I hope somebody around here is able to help me.
I have got a new Mac Pro with one Quad core processor since yesterday and it works fine except for Logic Express 8 (version 8.0.1). Whenever I start Logic the program crashes as soon as "Core Audio initialisieren" is shown in the display. I have tried to reinstall the program, deleted it completely and installed it again. It is always the same.
Has anyone else experienced this problem? What can I do about it? I am a musician and I really need Logic Express to run.

Confused. 10.6 is DVD based. Only Lion and above are downloads.
And best install is not to upgrade. Do a clean install  - on another drive.
Corrupt partition tables or bad sectors or no room to adjust the partitions or the directory is corrupt.
ERASE the drive if Repair Disk didn't work.

  • Mac Pro 2.66 Logic , still synch error ? is this possible ?

well , here goes my suprise . got recently Mac Pro 2.66 , one of the fastest machines around and i still get "could not synchronise data in time " error when CPU Usage of OS X is only on 12% !!! with not much happening in a Song ? is this still draging every body else down ? i used to have a lot of synch errors when i was on Pentium 4 Logic 5.5
now i switched to Mac hoping to have better workflow and still having Logic stoping because of that annoying synch error. what about you out there , quad owners !
p.s. i have audio buffer on set 125 . should not be a problem
    with quad 2.66 . am i wrong ?

i think logic is fine Instrument it needs to be improved just as any other major DAW's . synch errors like , coundn't process data in time etc, is 20th century . there is enough tech knowelege nowedays to sort this legacy of the past out . what i'm afraid to go into is to start twicking OS till i would go Grey and not having any improvement as i did when i was usin PC & Windos . Melissa .., i have those error poping up without audio files in a song , only logic Synths and Stylus can cause those pop up . i don't want to dramatize it i have qute bearable interaptions but still those kind of Audio or whatever related problems they might be should be sorted out once and for all by Apple . also i constructed audoload on a new system i was using Cubase before i moved to Mac .
for Chris', attention i've got quite qood Audio interface hooked up : Yamaha i88x Mlan interface .
i'm hopeing to hear more feedback on this thread though.

  • Installed my logic 9.0.0 on my new mac pro, updated it to 9.1.5, it accepts my serial, but then asks me for an "original serial" that I don't have..? What should I do ?

    Please Help !
I bought Logic studio, with logic pro 9.0.0 last year, worked perfectly on my macbook pro.
Just got a new mac pro, with macos 10.7 Lion.. I install the software, serial works,
then I update the software, because 9.0.0 can't open in os 10.7, and after accepting my serial,
it asks me for an "original serial" that I have no idea about..
    sry for the english..
Please HELP, I cant survive without logic more than an hour !

I think this is a known problem with Lion and some installs of Logic, I've seen it mentioned before.

  • I've got a mac pro problem with the starting up, but also a red light on the logic board solidly on. Its not among the diagnostic led. It's located near the BT adapter and the front fans. Also the fans run loud also. any solutions?

    Hi
I've got a mac pro late 2006, and i am having problem with it for quite a while now. the problem i am facing is the start up process, and the red light on the logic board. Earlier I've got the two led on the diagnostic leds 5 and 6 turned on without the diagnostic button being pressed, and i think those are related to the processors overtemp. I've managed to solve that by, removing the processors and re applying the thermal compound on the heatsink. what i have left now with is the red light on  the logic board at the time i plugged in the power. At the same time when this light come on, the power indicator at the front panel come on as well. i am not sure what is this light relates to. We've replace the power supply too, and gone through the SMC reset but seems no help.
Any idea on the problem? I am desperate about it, and i will be greatful if anyone can help..
thanks and hope for your best solutions
    Kari

I can't help directly with your problem but you might check here http://tim.id.au/laptops/apple/macpro/ for a service manual which could answer your question.

  • Using Logic 7.2 on a Mac Pro with Protools 7.2.1 and Mac OS 10.4.7

I am researching purchasing a New Protools/Logic System
Seems the version of Protools to use with the new Mac Pros is 7.2.1, which only recently came out to work with the new "Mac Pros" Digidesign has stated thhat it works with and Mac OS 10.4.7
The latest version of Logic is 7.2 which has been out for a while....hmmm
Is anybody using Logic 7.2 on a New Mac Pro with Protools 7.2.1 and Mac OS 10.4.7, and does it work?

Logic Pro 7.2.2 is not compatible with DAE/TDM on a Mac Pro INTEL.
You will see only "CoreAudio" as available choice, when trying to engage your audio hardware.
We have to wait for any announcements in this regard, maybe at AES or DigiDays in San Francisco.

Ok, fair enough.  But since Job's death - Apple's control on leaks has been terrible.  I got the new iPhone, and I like it - but it hasn't made nearly as big as an impression as previous ones.  Because of the vast ammount of leaks.  With the iPad mini leaks, it's 99% sure to come out next week.
Apple uses many manufacturers and it's massive also websites prefer to report on Apple whether true or false because it brings more hits.
Amd by "others" I meant other people on iPads - not other devices/manufacturers.  It's possible to do so, I just want to know how.  I honestly don't think we'll ever be in a Post-PC era until all tablets allow us to use USB in the way computers do.
No, USB is not the future, you missed the memo about cloud and wireless computing?

  • "system overload" in logic pro 8 on my Mac Pro with only three tracks

I am running Logic Pro 8, on a 2.66 Quad Core Mac Pro w/ only 1GB of RAM. I have not had the money for the much needed ram upgrade, yet.
The day before yesterday I opened a project I had opened many times, with only three tracks - two audio and a midi synth with only a few notes. These tracks are fairly well plugin-ed up, but this Mac Pro has always eaten them up, no problems. When I tried to play the project, I got system overloads every 2 seconds, rather precisely actually. My CPU usage reads low in logic and with iStat, but suddenly it peaks to 100% on my third core and I get the system overload.
I had my buffer size at 128, so I switched it to 1024, it worked, and then I switched it back again and everything worked like it used to!
But now I have to go through this slightly illogical little procedure everytime I open a project. I have read threads here about this subject before, back I cant seem to apply them / understand them in relation to my particular situation.
    any ideas?

Join the club...wait for them to patch/update it.
I've tried the various work arounds, sometimes they work temporarily, sometimes not at all.
For the overloads the most reliable "work around" is to select each track, open the VI/FX modules associated with that track, then close them, go to the next track and repeat the process. OR, if you know all the modules (VI/FX) you're using, just open each one. This will "initialize" their existance BEFORE the audio engine hits them in playback.
My guess is LP8 tries to reduce it's memory foot print and does NOT initialize all the VI/FX in a saved project that is just opened until it actually needs to use them -- a good idea one would think. However, when you do your playback and it hits the VI/FX for the first time (after you just opened your saved project) it appears the audio engine stalls waiting for the VI/FX to initialize the 1st time around and hence the overloads error. Obviously I can't prove this since I don't have access to the code, but I'm a developer and this would be my logical guess based on the evidence at hand.
I can reproduce the problem consistently:
    1. Start LP8
    2. Open existing project with 3 tracks (staggered to start a different times) with different VI on each track
    3. Have 3 buses with a different FX on each bus
    4. Do nothing other than hit Play
Overload when it hits start of 1st track VI, stop, restart, overloads when it hits start point of 2nd track VI, stop restart, overloads when it hits start point of 3rd track.
Why wasn't something this obvious caught in testing? Good question.
    Rob.

  • Mac Pro RAID block size recommendations for working with audio in Logic Pro

I have recently ordered a Mac Pro and plan to do a RAID configuration across 3 HDD's
The RAID type i am going to do is a RAID 0 striped.
The computer is going to be used primarily for audio post production and working with 20+ 24-Bit audio files at any one time within a Logic project.
I want to know what is the best block size i should use when configuring the RAID.
I understand that using a higher block size is best for working with large files but do i need to do this in my case or will the default 32k block size be enough?
    Thanks in advance

Use 64k. Things like databases like having 32k blocks because of all the small files. Audio files are pretty small even at 24-bit 192KHz. Go to 128k if all you are doing is streaming and no samples. But 20+ 24-bit is really not too large anyway considering most modern HDD's can stream 100MB/s off one spindle. You'll probably be fine regardless of the block size you choose. But most audio pro's choose 64k.

  • Early 2008 Mac Pro 3,1 Mystery Logic Board/GPU Issue

I recently received an Early 2008 Mac Pro 3,1 for free because the owner couldn't figure out what was wrong with it. It would boot up with the startup chime, but never output any video, and kept rebooting and replaying the startup chime.  Using the diagnostic LEDs on the logic board, I was able to see that the Power Good LED (LED 7) and the EFI LED (LED 9) were both on, but the GPU LED (LED 8) never lit up.  After trying all the PCI slots and confirming that the graphics card worked in another Mac Pro, I confirmed it wasn't the graphics card.  I then tried a different power supply and different power supply cables, different RAM, different RAM boards, but still nothing.  (Note: I also went through all the usual stuff: Power Cycling, PRAM, SMC Reset)
I then ordered a replacement logic board (used from eBay) and spent the weekend swapping out the logic board.  After the swap, the Mac Pro STILL won't output video, and now the EFI LED (LED 9) won't even light up.  Tried resetting the EFI Firmware via a CD, and still nothing.  Does anyone have any idea as to what the issue could be?  I'm 95% certain I plugged everything back in correctly on the board, but I don't know what else to do other than tear it apart again to confirm everything is plugged in.  The only other thing I can think of is that the second logic board I received was also bad.
    Please help!!!

Your problem sounds like a graphics card problem to me.
confirming that the graphics card worked in another Mac Pro,
Was this also a Mac Pro 2008 model? was it running the same Mac OS X version as you are testing? what version?
what graphics card are you trying to use? Genuine Apple or flashed PC or unflashed PC? what Mac OS X version?
That second board sounds Bad to me if it won't say EFI-OK.

  • TDM for Logic Pro on a Mac Pro

I have a Mac Pro running OSX 10.4.8 and I am wondering if anyone knows when Apple is going to release an update for TDM to will work with Logic. For some reason i cant record with Core Audio either. Can someone explain.

I have a Mac Pro running OSX 10.4.8 and I am
wondering if anyone knows when Apple is going to
release an update for TDM to will work with Logic.
Apple wil never release any TDM stuff, and do you know why? Because TDM stuff belongs to DIGIDESIGN.(That was pretty obvious).
For some reason i cant record with Core Audio either.
Core audio does NOT talk to TDM systems. At the risk of sounding "evil",or "condescending" I would ask you to open the manual to your TDM system and read how it works. The answers are ther, you just have to read them out loud to yourself, and further, understand them.
    Can someone explain.
Since, like some other posters, you did not tell us what audio hardware you are using,EXACTLY,well,we can't give you an answer,EXACTLY,since systems vary, and setups vary as well.
    Cheers...

Hello, having a problem with Logic 9 on a Mac Pro.Working on a lenghty song and apparently session got corrupted.Doesnt let me export tracks, program crashes.Already tried start brand new session with the tracks imported into it but still wont export.Suggestions?

Thanks, Ian. Yeah, that's how I do it now...or with the controls in the left side pane. Still, I would have liked that quick on-the-spot edit capability...especially while sketching.
    Ian Turner wrote:
Sorry Mark, you are out of luck as it does not do that - it works the same as L8. The way I would achieve that with more accuracy and control would be to route all the tracks you want to fade to a Bus then use volume automation on the bus. To do this you will need to add a standard audio track, then re-assign it using (Control Click on the track header) to the Bus track. You can then automate volume/plugins etc on the Bus track.
