Logic Projects folder / troubles / lost

Hi, i bought a new macbook, when i installed "Logic" i didn't move my project folder from my old mac to the new mac. i worked on some new stuff on the new mac, finished some projects, and then decided to open few old ones from the old hard drive (old macbook). i plugged an external hdd (from old macbook) into the new computer and opened project files from it... afterwards, i couldn't find projects which were created on new mac, except one which was saved on the desktop. They are not showing in "recently projects" folder and can't even find them thru the spotlight...

Thats the problem! there is only one project, which i actually start before i plugged external hdd, so where is others projects ? doesent make any sense

  • I am having trouble opening projects in Encore CS3.  "project folder cannot be found"

Encore will not open my project files.  I get the message "project folder cannot be found".  Unlike Premiere Pro however it does not ask where they are.

Did you change the name on assets only?  Or did you change the name of files/folders that were in the main En project folder?  If the latter, then I think you're hosed.  If the former, then En should ask you where they are when you open the project.
Try putting the top-level En project folder in the same parent folder as the En project file.  If you can remember what the original parent folder was called, use the same parent folder.  Leave everything else as is.  Launch En from the Start Menu and choose the Open Project option from the Welcome screen.  Navigate to where the En project file is and select that.  Open the project.
    What happens?

  • Is this a good backup strategy for a drive with Logic projects on it ?

Let's say you build on a LP9 project, that could be editing regions on the arrange window, adding/ deleting plugins, and saving the project under the same name. Those edits are stored in the project file and now the session is different than the one on the backup disk. Is it a good idea to have Carbon Copy Cloner archive the older project into a seperate folder and copy the newly edited version into the same project folder replacing the older version ? Or re-save the edited project (which I do by habit) on the work disk as a new name to reflect that it is a new version and now this new version will be cloned to the backup. But what if you delete digital audio off the work disk either on purpose or accidental, should the backup task also delete that audio from the backup drive or just move it to an archive folder for just in case down the road ? I am trying to design a new scheme where every day when I leave my studio a Macbook pro and my logic work disk goes with me leaving behind the daily incremental backup. Two events are my concern, the first is while away from studio I might edit or add to a logic project and want that work to be automatically backed up when I get back to studio and dock the laptop. Second if the studio burns down while I'm gone, I will have lost no data because the work drive is in my possesion. I think CCC is a good choice to manage my new back up scheme. Anybody have comments or suggestions ? Thanks much appreciated.

One way of making it more robust would be make a copy on DVD or BluRay, as I have read that several professionals do, for long term archiving, but this might be seen as too much of a *** for a small/non-professional catalogue.
Is one of the hard drives in a RAID setup? This would increase the safety factor and mean that it would take a three fold failure for pictures to be lost. Additionally, the use of professional quality hard drives built for a hard life in NASs etc, like the WD Red Pro, would give a meaningful increase in life expectancy over consumer level disks.

  • How do I move existing Logic projects to an external hard drive?

My internal hdd is getting close to capacity on my iMac so i've purchased an external 500GB USB hdd.
I have about 10 existing projects that i'd like to move to my new drive.
These projects consist of WAV files imported from a portable digital recorder, fresh recorded tracks using my audio interface, and midi tracks. Most of my tracks are at the 'final mix' stage and are sounding pretty sweet
Would it benefit me to move my Logic projects to my external drive, or should I scrap the idea and move my huge itunes library instead? If it is worth moving my Logic projects - what is the best way to do it? I really don't want to have to remix, re-record anything. I also don't want to get lost in Finder.
I'm quite new to Logic but I intend to 'use best practice' if possible. I get the impression that using an external hard drive with Logic may offer performance gains. My audio interface is firewire (M-Audio FW 410). The USB external hdd was brought to avoid firewire conflicts.
Any tips would be most welcome.
    Thanks in advance. Rich

In theory, you should be able to copy all of your projects to the external and open and use them exactly as before with no problems and no need to re-mix anything...
BUT, and its a big BUT...
Are you sure all of your projects were started AS projects with all the audio files, instrument samples etc. stored in the relevant folders in the project's folder?
Before doing anything, go through all of your "projects", make sure they ARE projects (there should be a project folder, the song file stored in the project folder, with audio, undo etc. folders within the main project folder for each one) - if they are not, do a "save as project" - it should give you a number of options to copy any external audio files etc. to the project folder. If for any reason it doesn't I would then choose "project - consolidate" from the main file menu, which will give you the same options. Even if you are SURE that all your projects ARE projects, I would choose "consolidate project" just to be sure...
You should then be able to proceed... but don't delete the originals until you are sure everything is working fine. I would even suggest backing up the originals in another location (it could even be a back-up folder on the same external), so you can just move them straight back to the original location if there are any problems.
When I first started using Logic many years ago there was no option to save projects, and I learnt the hard way to create the folder structure that logic now does for you. But even so, unless you started out knowing how to use this function, its possible some of your audio files are still stored in the wrong location. "Consolidate project" should solve this.
As for the USB HD - I would avoid using a USB drive for audio. It is said that USB 2 is faster than firewire 400, but I don't know any musician or film maker that would use one.
You can daisy chain firewire devices with no problems in my experience. If you do experience problems I might suggest you search up on any posts to do with M-Audio interfaces and Macs...
    Good Luck!

  • Consolidating ALL third party files into the Logic project.

Does anyone know if there is a way to do this?
Kontakt samplers, custom patches of 3rd party synths never save into the Logic Project.
Is there a way to get them to consolidate into the Project Folder?
I constantly find ive lost files, need to re-link them or get lost with locations.
If there was a way to simplify this it would be great.
    Any ideas?

    - Put the jar file on a location you want (the location must be the same for all developers).
    - Select the "Libraries" node of your project.
    - Press the right mouse button to bring up the popup menu and choose "Add JAR / Folder..."
    - Locate and select the JAR file you need and press OK.
    - Now you have included it into your project.

  • Drag drop photo import to aperture folder why auto new project folder appear .

i do import photos from desktop  to folder that i want in the aperture libary  . as soon as i drag and drop photos automatically new peoject folder appear in the libabry as name untitled project.. why? i dont want that new project folder.  i try to delete that folder and my picture all automatically deleted from library.
also if i try to delete photos from preject folder .. it completely deleted from master library .. picture will be lost.. why?
i drag and move pictures to  brand  new album or folder .. then try to delete wanted project folder - master picture are all gone.
now i have at least 30-40 of untitled project folder in the library ... pictrure are not movable i meant you can move but u still have to keep old project folder to avoid master picture can not be deleted ...
someone help me? did i make myself clear?

You might read the manual or the Help as this is all covered there.
If you want to import to a specific project use the File -> Import option. You can select your destination there.
Every photo in a Library is in a project. Projects are the basic building block of the Library. That's why.
Folders don't contain photos. They can contain Projects or Albums. These contain photos. Albums don't contain the actual photos, just links to them. So if you add a photo to an Album and then delete the project... you delete the photo.
Remember: you don't move photos to an Album, you add them.

  • HT200183 If I wanted to include apple loops in the assets of Logic project folders that are part of a tutorial available for download on a paid educational website would that be ok?

If I wanted to include apple loops in the assets of Logic project folders that are part of a song that follows a tutorial available for download on a paid educational website would that be ok? No one would be paying for the file itself that's part of the membership. I don't want to get into any copyright problems. I understand that they are royalty free and you can include them in your music no problem but the individual loops would be in the audio folder if I saved all the assets to the project file.
Also, would it be ok to include screen shots I take myself of apple programs in my downloadable content?
Just trying to figure out exactly how I should go about it to avoid any legal issues.

My gut reaction is that you may well run into © issues if you re-distribute the original AppleLoops. If your customers are paying for the training, they are also paying for the content you provide, so I feel that you would be re-selling the loops.
Given that anyone who has a copy of Logic would likely have installed all the loop content, there should be no need to distribute them with the project files. Alternatively, make your own loops.

  • How do I get Vienna Instruments (VI's) into a Logic Project?

so, I'm running an  IMax OS X 10.6.7, with Logic Pro 9.1.4
I recently downloaded Vienna Symphonic Library Special Edition and Special Edition plus, the latest version.  Everything is now downloaded and ready to go, and I have started messing around with patches, saving matrices, etc. on the standalone Vienna Software.
So my question is, how do I import the VI's into a Logic Project?  I have read the Logic Manual, and it doesn't provide detailed instructions on how to do this.  When I look at the Allowable VI plug ins in Logic, it shows the vienna instruments there, but I just don't know how exactly to go from having the matrices saved in my custom folder, using them with the standalone vienna player to actually using them within a Logic Project to create midi regions/tracks, and turn old midid regions/tracks that were created with Logic instruments in to tracks/regions with the Vienna Virtual Instruments.
    Help?

Yes, I know how to run a software instrument.  I actually figured out how to do this on my own, and am assuming that it is the best way.  I just loaded any software "Logic" instrument, and then loaded the Vienna matrix into a plug in slot.
So that seems to work, but now I have more questions.  Do you use Vienna?
If I already have a violin region recorded on a Logic instrument track, I have realized that i can just copy and past it onto the new track with the Vienna plug in and it will adopt those settings, but my question is this:
Vienna seems to make a big deal out of being able to play all the articulations of one instrument on just one track, with keyswitch controls, etc.  But if I'm working with Midi data on a track in logic and I'm not performing all the parts "live" while recording, how do I get the articulation changes to stay in place, so that I can have a violin play staccato, legato, and pizzicato all in one track, without having to manually hit the keyswitches to change the articulations while the track is playing?  obviously I can't do this while bouncing, or with multiple tracks at once, so how to you create a single track with multiple articulations in Vienna, plug it into a Logic Track, and have it playback with the changes in articulations, without having to manually change it.
    Any ideas?
I have a lot of multi track orchestral projects composed using logic instruments, but I want to get all those over to Vienna Instruments as well.  What would be the easiest way to do this, with consideration to my above question concerning one track for multiple articulations of an instrument?

  • How can I link 1 movie file with several logic projects?

    Hi all,
I've been  working on the music for a film with a colleague of mine and are sharing logic files via dropbox. 72 cues had to be altered for logisitical reason to work in someone else's studio for the final mix. Since I had a copy of the movie on my machine and my colleague had a copy on his we thought that if we put our movie into the root directory of our logic project's folder then the movie would automatically load up with the projects after we shared them via dropbox. We checked to make sure that both movies had the same filename. Unfortunately this did not work and we had to then reassociate 72 cues individually with each logic project. With such limited time to prepare the cues for the final mix this really took too much time.
Is there any way in logic (9.1.8) to associate 1 movie file with a number of logic projects quickly, without having to open up the project and select open movie?
    kind regards
    /mischa

Seems to me that if you both had the movie file in the same location on both of your drives (eg on Macintosh HD at root level, in no other folder) then all the project files would search for this common path and find the file.
The problem arises when there is even a small difference between path names.
Unfortunately, this won't help you at this point as all the project files already are associated with unique file paths for the movie. By now, you've probably already done it one by one - but maybe for next time....?
There's no bulk or quick way to do this.

  • EXS samples in Project Folder...

When I tell Logic to copy my samples to the project folder (using the Assets section of the Project Settings), is Logic still using the samples from their original location during playback, or is it now playing the files from my Project Folder?
I'm hoping it's still using the original files, which are located on a different drive than my Project Folder. I think copying the samples to the PF is just for the convenience of having all my project material in one place... True?

Yes this is true. If I am not sending the project elswhere I don't resave the samples thus avoiding wasting lots of hd space for duplicates.

  • Link to another Project folder

I need to link to a module in another project folder. I used
the click box and in the On Success chose Open other project and
picked the swf file using the elipsis. However, when I ran it, it
was looking for the file in the same folder as my current course
not in the other project folder. Can I not link to another project
folder using Captivate. We want to reuse components from one
project to another without having multiple copies in every folder.
    Thanks for all your help.

With JavaScript, you're limited primarily by your
imagination, so the example I offered was intentionally generic.
In practical use, you would probably want Captivate to pass
only the destination folder & filename and let the JavaScript
function create the full path. Assuming the relative folder
structure is the same on each server, you'd only need a single
    generic function.
For example, if you wanted to launch a file named
"introduction.htm" in an adjacent folder named "course02", you
could add the following to Captivate:
    javascript: goToMovie('course02','introduction.htm');
and add the following to your standard.js file (so it gets
automatically propagated to each published course):
    function goToMovie(strFolder, strFile)
    var arrPath = window.location.href.split('/');
    arrPath[arrPath.length-2] = strFolder;
    arrPath[arrPath.length-1] = strFile;
    window.location.href = arrPath.join('/');
The Captivate function passes the folder and file name as
quoted string variables and the JavaScript function then uses those
variables to create a new URL. You can get as fancy as you like,
such as adding logic to go up more than one folder level, but
hopefully you get the general idea.

  • Project folder not behaving-not remembering changes

    Running OSX 10.8.5 on a 2.26GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon.
I have a project folder that should consist of 19 different sub-folders displaying in icon view and is locked. All folders are very organized. If I have three folders that are called folder 1, folder 2, and folder 3, they are displayed in that order from left to right folder 1,2,3. Prior to having 19 sub-folders I had 17. Everytime I needed to make a change I unlocked the main folder and did the changes. Then locked it again ( for accidental deletion ). This is the second time in a month that this folder is behaving and displaying the contents prior to having 19 sub folders, back when it had 17 and the folders that are named folder 1, folder 2, and folder 3 are now displaying folder 2, folder 1 and folder 3 also before re-organizing the main folder. The main folder is located on a secondary drive not the main boot drive. I ran disc utilities and everything checks out. Thankfully I did back-up the main folder. But from then till now the work was not backed up. I believe I only lost a little work.
What is causing the folder that is not located on the main HD drive to behave this way?
Did I get hacked, bug, trojan etc.?
Tomorrow when I wake up it will probably be back to normal. What gives?
Should I be concerned about the drive? Or something else from the system?
    Thanks.

    anyone?

  • How to Send a logic project between people??

Need to send a Logic project of mine to a friend a few hours away, What is the best way to do this? What save options do I have to choose for it to open as the project is on my mac on theirs so they can start editing and mucking around with it?
    Thanx for ur help.....in advance

If you want your friend to have the complete logic file including audio files you could compress the entire project folder and send the copied compressed folder via http://www.filedropper.com/ or a site like that. With file dropper you can upload up to 5gb. I have used it for delivering large projects to clients from time to time. You could of course set up your own FTP server which would take a tad more effort but would be equally as effective.

"When I tried to reload those folders onto FCP nothing happened"
Brownale6 how can  u reload folder in to FCP.
As you said folders are moved to external disk but have you checked it should be like this
    For Event
external disk>Final Cut Events>your event folder.
    For project
external disk>Final Cut Projects>your project folder.

  • Corrupt audio file prevents me from opening Logic project file

    Hello,
I've been running Logic 8 for a couple years off my MacBook and have never encountered any significant problems of file corruption until recently.
The issue I encountered is this:
I've been producing a lengthy track in an on-going Logic project file for some time and after completing a recording session I saved and started deleting excess track copies to clean up my arrange window. Upon doing so Logic unexpectedly crashed.
After attempting to reopen the project file, it started its normal process of loading its respective audio files, but now it hangs on one particular audio file indefinitely (I'll refer to it as 'audio file x' for ease of reference), freezing and crashing Logic as a result. All of this project file's auto backup files are also incapable of being opened without giving me the same result and crashing Logic.
I have no way of opening this project file and getting at my most recent saved sequence!
I've tried removing this corrupt 'audio file x' from the project's audio folder and dragging it to the desktop, but this had no effect and I still can't open any recent version of the project file.
Older saved copies of the current project file do still open though (most likely because they were saved prior to the corruption caused by this suspect 'audio file x.') When opening an earlier iteration of the project, I get a message '1 invalid audio region found' (I assume referring to the corrupt suspect 'audio file x' that I removed to the desktop) but the project file is still able to open.
I realize I could import the audio files from the most recent version of the crashed file to an older project version and reconstruct things back to the way they were, but it would take me a lot of time and I'm hoping there may be some way to recover the un-openable project file by getting it to stop looking for this corrupted 'audio file x' on startup.
When I click 'show package contents' of the Logic Project file, I notice two items labeled 'displayState' and 'documentData.' From my troubleshooting I've come to the basic understanding that the 'documentData' file contains all the sequence data and settings for its respective Logic Project file.
I think the 'document data' of the unopenable project file in question may be corrupt because whenever I replace it with the 'document data' from an earlier Project file version, the file is able to open. This doesn't do me much good though, because it's document data from an earlier iteration of the project and I need to be able to get at the current sequence I had right before my file crashed.
Is there anyway to open a project file without letting it load its audio files? Or is there anyway I could get inside the 'document data' file to delete the reference/pathway in its audio bin to the corrupt 'audio file x' its hanging on?
Any insights would be greatly appreciated. I'm hoping there's some way I won't have to repeat a couple days worth of work. Thanks for your help!

    stooby3535 wrote:
After further troubleshooting I've realized that the suspicious audio file that prevents the project file from opening is actually not corrupted itself. I can still play the audio file in other media software like Quicktime, etc. with no problem.
This leads me to believe the problem opening the project file lies solely with the corrupted 'documentData' file.
Does anyone have any ideas about how I could somehow open this project file and delete the reference of the troublesome audio file from the project's audio bin?
Well... it really sounds like the project itself is corrupted, that's one of the reasons all project files won't load from a certain point on.
    Try this.
    Reboot the Mac.
Open the Applications folder and boot Logic from it's icon.
As soon as the Logic Logo/graphic window appears on the screen hold down the control key. You will see a message pop up that says something like "Launch the Core Audio Driver" there will be yes/no choice available... select NO.
Go to the File menu and selct "open" go find your project file and see if it will open. If it does.. delete the audio file in question... however.. I would also look at any plugins you recently installed and are possibly using in this project...this sounds more like a plugin problem rather than an audio file problem, but that's just a gut feeling.
Anyway, if it opens delete whatever you suspect and save under a different name.
Reboot Logic and see if it can load the project.
