Logic redrawing overview files every time

Hey all. Recently started teaching my audio recording class at the local university again, and in the interim they had installed all new iMacs and re-installed Logic Express 9.1.8, which we use for the class. Now the overview files re-draw every time I open a project, some of which contain a lot of files, bogging the system down for an extended period. I've never experience this before, and I can't find a preference that might address the issue. Any ideas?

This could possibly be a permissions issue. I seem to recall a similar issue on the Logic Pro forum where someone commented that if he set permissions so that "everyone" could read & write (e.g. your students) it doesn't let the overviews be written permanently. If this is indeed the case, you might need to reset permissions so that you are the only one who can save the project files.
Of course, you could also try trashing the logic .plist file in your user library preferences folder. Logic will simply create a new one the next time you launch it. You may want to keep a copy of your current one as a precaution if you've set LE up in a particular way for your class.
Also, if these are all brand-new iMacs they are probably running Mavericks, which has proven to be problematic with regards to Logic 9.

  • How to see all image types when saving an image without selecting "all files"every time

    <blockquote>Locking duplicate thread.<br>
    Please continue here: [[/questions/951766]]</blockquote>
Hallo, and thank you for reading this.
I am a person who saves a lot of images online and renames them in different folders in different names like B - 34 or G - 56. I have been working with firefox 10 for quite some time and it had a pretty handy bug (I guess) where I could save an image and firefox would just save the image in it's original type (JPEG,PNG etc) while "save as type" was empty.
It also always has shown all the image types in the folder where I save the images (except for GIF) and that helpes me quite a lot by saving me the trouble of selecting "all files" every time I save or going to the folder to rename every image.
Now this seems to be lacking in the newest firefox versions and my question is if I can set firefox to always show me all the image file types when saving an image, instead of only showing JPEG's when I try to save a JPEG.
    Thank you for your time.

I suspect this is a Windows problem. I am surmising the FilePicker uses the Operating System or Desktop facilities. Does Windows 7 offer any other file categories like ''images'' ?
I do not normally use Windows 7, but may the option depend upon the directory being an indexed one, I ask after finding this thread ''Bring File types tab back'' [http://www.windows7taskforce.com/view/819]
This question is a duplicate of [/questions/951764]
Normally I would lock the duplicate question, but in this instance I will leave it open as it is unanswered and someone may give a better reply.

  • Time Mach is backing up EVERY file EVERY time!!

I'm having a problem here, or else things are very different than people have been saying....
When I first upgraded to 10.5 and Time Machine, I had File Vault installed. Then I read how it would back up the whole home folder every time... ick.... so I turned File Vault OFF.
So now it's backing up individual files, just like I had hoped.... EXCEPT, for some reason, it's backing up EVERY file, EVERY time. Not just the initial backup. Not just the changed files. EVERYTHING.
I was wondering how I used 250GB on my backup drive since YESTERDAY!!!! Here's what I get if I do a "Get Info" on the individual backup folders....
    8:42 am -- 55.47GB -- 181,188 items
    9:32am -- 55.22 GB -- 181,229 items
    10:32am -- 55.23 GB -- 181,233 items
Okay, so what gives?!?!?! Do I need turn do something to reset this out of control thing and hopefully get it set to backing up only the CHANGES?!? This is why I turned File Vault Off in the first place, so I wouldn't have 55GB backups every time.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!!! Now let me unplug my hard drive before it get completely full while just sitting here, surfing the internet.....
    Thanks,
    Donovan

Right-click (or CTRL-click) on the icon for your Time Machine hard drive on the Desktop and select Get Info from the menu that pops up. That will show you the actual amount of free space left on that drive.
You can also see it by going to System Preferences / Time Machine while your Time Machine drive is mounted.
Every backup folder in your Time Machine reflects the ENTIRE file system of your computer (excepting items in your Do Not Back Up list and certain items that are automatically rebuilt from scratch such as cache files). That means if you do a Get Info on any of those backup folders you will see the size reported as matching the size of your file system. However, not all that data is in every backup folder. The vast majority of the files you see in the backup folder are actually "hard links", a special kind of pointer, pointing to a real copy of the file that was transferred during some previous backup, perhaps going all the way back to your initial backup. So every backup folder represents the whole file system, and is reported as being that big by the Finder, but in actuality most of the data is scattered through your prior backups and your initial backup -- just one copy. Only new files/folders or changed files/folders get transferred into each new incremental backup.

  • Error Message Combining PDF Files, Every Time

Why do I get an error message from Adobe when trying to combine PDF files, every time!

    Hi Troy,
Please let me know what errors you are getting from Combining files.
Are your PDF files big, encrypted PDF files or scanned images PDF files?
Have you tried to combine smaller/simple files? If so,  does Combine Files work?
    Thank you.

    A quick alternative to email.
Copy the files onto a USB drive. Make sure that "Ignore permissions on this drive" is set. (Get Info on the drive from Finder).
Then copy them from the drive to the destination user account.

  • Logic Pro X crashes every time I try to add to loop library???

    Logic pro x 10.0.2
    Mac book pro
    Retina, Mid 2012
Processor  2.3 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory  8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
I have been using logic pro x for over a year now and have recently started creating my own apple loops. I am in the process of adding a big library of loops I have created to the loop library. Logic crashes every second time I try to add to loop library. For instance, I will open logic, open one of my aiff files, right click the region and select add to loop library. The first one will go through fine. Then I will proceed to delete the region, open the next aiff file, right click the region and select "add to loop library". As soon as I do this the program crashes without fail. Then I have to open logic again, select open "auto saved" and go through this cycle every time.
    PLEASE HELP!!!

I had problems getting it to accept .dv files from imovie. I batch converted all of them with MPEG Streamclip to .mov files. That helped.

  • Compressor reloads entire MKV file every time I do anything!

I have a 4gb MKV movie that I am trying to convert using compressor. When I add it I have to wait for it to load the entire file... like 20 minutes. And every time I change a setting it has to reload the entire file before it lets me do anything else. So just setting up a file to convert is like an hour long ordeal! Any way around this?

Apparently, Perian can read those files. Do you have it installed?

I have no idea if this will help you at all, but it has to be worth trying.

  • ITunes loses location of files every time a network connection is interrupted

I keep all my media files on a RAID attached to my router. I have a MacBook, and I don't want to fill up my boot drive with music files, nor do I want all my music on an external hard drive that has to be physically attached to my laptop (lack of portability, inconvenient to eject every time I want to take the laptop somewhere, hard drives fail, etc.).
The problem is that every so often, I'll get the message "network connection interrupted." I'm hardwired to the router at home via Ethernet, but for whatever reason, sometimes it just pops up the network connection interrupted message.
If I'm listening to iTunes when that happens, iTunes will stop playing the song, and an exclamation mark will appear to say "hey, I can't find that file where I thought it would be." What's far worse is that iTunes will then go on to try and play the next song, and the next, and the next, and so on down the line, placing an exclamation mark next to each one as it fails to find the volume where they're stored. In this way, entire albums or even entire artists will get "lost" to iTunes.
The next time I go to listen to a song that has the exclamation mark, if my network connection is established, I can double-click, and it will play just fine as it looks for the volume and finds it. Unfortunately, I have to double-click each and every song individually. I can't just click "play album," or even double-click one song and let it go on to the next. I have to go to every song that's "lost," double-click them one at a time, and then they'll play, and be usable by services that connect to iTunes, such as iMovie, or the Remote app on my iPhone.
Is there any way to prevent this situation from happening? Either by telling iTunes not to declare a song "lost" just because it can't find it one time, or to tell it to look in the last place it saw it, so that when the network connection is active, it will just go ahead and play the song?
As it is, it seems that my only choices are to keep all my music on my boot drive or an external plugged directly into the laptop, or to stop using iTunes for my music. Neither of those solutions would be positive outcomes for me.
My setup is a MacBook running 10.6.8, a 5th generation Airport Extreme running 7.6.1, and a Drobo RAID attached to the network.
    Thanks!

Thre's nothing in iTunes you can configure.  There are scripts that could be used to repair links broken in your scenario, but not ones I would want to have to run regularly.  I see a number of posts here where people have issues with iTunes having problem with NAS.  It seems to work find if you just attach an external drive via USB or Firewire but once you start getting fancy with NAS and RAID, problems arise.  You'll have to see if there's something you can do on the networking side to stop this, or you'll just have to quit iTuneswhen the network drops and restart.

  • Updating large pdf file on multi devices but do I have to download the entire file every time?

So I have a pdf file that is 500mb (already on acrobat.com cloud) and I want to read this across tablet, desktop, and phone. I will be updating this file bit by bit on every one of those devices. Does this mean that every time I want to see the updated version I have to wait for a download of 500mb? Because that is just ridiculous!

    Hi salmanf76008405
Yes, You would need to download the entire file, in order to see the updated version.

  • Logic hanging 10 seconds every time I save

Logic is hanging 10 seconds every time I save. There is a 5 second pause from when I hit cmd S to when the beach ball appears, after which point it is another 5 seconds before the save is complete. It's strange because I recently added a Glyph 1TB HD, which I thought would make my project blazing fast. I am using the FW400 through port on my Presonus Firestudio Tube. Could that be the problem? I tried the FW800 port on the Mac and that cause my audio interface to crash when Logic started up. Any thoughts?

Thanks for your reply. I switched the external drive connection to the FW400 port on the back of the Mac, instead of daisy chaining it through my audio interface. It seems to be working OK for now. We'll see. I also had my buffer at 32. Oops. That, of course, should make a huge difference, as I am just editing at this point. Over the past week I've had many times when I think I've figured it out, only to have the problem come back again. I'll keep your suggestion in mind, as I, too, have not had issues like this with my internal drives.

  • Logic Pro Unexpectedly Quits Every Time I Open It

Every time I open Logic the App unexpectedly quits, I have tried removing the preferences folder and going through the install wizard again. Problem persists. I have also tried re-installing Logic, no avail.
I have the pro application support 4.0.2 update installed as well as the Logic Pro 7.2.3 update.
    Please help!

    Hi noeqplease,
I have tried repairing the pre-binding, first with using YASU, logic still would not open after using that. Then I tried the the pre-binding script from digidesign which said no repairs were done as they were not necessary. • Can I choose where to save the files every time?

When I get files by email, it's very annoying they all get saved in the same place. I'd like the chance to decide, every time, where I want them to be downloaded to, so that I don't have to be moving them around or reorganizing them later.
Also, is there an option to just open the file instead of downloading it? Some times I just want to see the content of the file, not necessarily save it in my computer.
    Thanks!

In case you are using "Clear history when Firefox closes":
*do not clear the Site Preferences
*Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history": [X] "Clear history when Firefox closes" > Settings

Note that clearing "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, passwords, and other website specific data.
Clearing cookies will remove all specified (selected) cookies including cookies with an allow exception that you would like to keep.
You can inspect and manage the permissions for the domain in the currently selected tab via these steps:
*Click the "[[Site Identity Button|Site Identity Button]]" (globe/padlock) on the location bar
*Click "More Information" to open "Tools > Page Info" with the Security tab selected
*Go to the Permissions tab (Tools > Page Info > Permissions) to check the permissions for the domain in the currently selected tab
It is also possible that the server uses multiple servers and that Firefox sees this as a new website.

  • After restore, Time Machine backs up many files every time

After my root drive failed and I restored from a Time Machine backup, Time Machine now writes hundreds of thousands of files every backup -- though they only take up a few hundred megabytes.  The backups take hours and backupd is usually using >50% of a CPU.  Typical log messages are below.  Interestingly, TM did *not* do a full backup after the system restore.  I have already reindexed the drives that are being backed up, and the behavior didn't change.

The external drive does not seem to be the problem.  I've tried the following:
    - Deleted the /Library/Preferences/com.apple.TimeMachine.plist file and reconfigured TM.
    - Do Time Machine backups on another disk.  After initial full backup, the same behavior persisted.
    - Exclude the external drive ("Synk_Archive" in the logs above) from TM backup.  The behavior persisted.
    - Unmount the external drive.  The behavior persisted.
    - Exclude Macintosh HD from TM backup.  TM behaved normally and only backed up a few files per run!
    - Repaired disk permissions on Macintosh HD.  The behavior persisted.
So, there is something about Macintosh HD that is fooling TM into thinking there have been a million files changed every hour.  Wiping and restoring my hard drive would be a desperate last resort and might not even solve the problem (since the trouble began right after replacing and restoring this drive).  Anyone have another suggestion?
