Logic rewired with Reason midi controller issue.

I use Logic 7.2.3 rewired with Reason and for some "reason" I can't get Reason to recognize my controller which is connected via MIDI to the Digi 003. Any ideas?

Interesting question.. Usually, variation in velocity is a desirable thing, to be able to play an instrument expressively. However, if you want to make your notes all equal velocity, an easy way to do this is with the inspector. Make sure that no regions are selected in the arrange window (so that the inspector says 'midi through'). Then adjust the 'dynamics' setting to 'off' (or whatever the actual terminology is), from that point on, anything you play on any instrument will have the velocity ignored. You can also set this kind of thing up for individual instruments, using the instrument parameter box just below the inspector.

  • Using Logic Pro with Reason 3.0

I am trying to use logic Pro with reason 3.0. I want to be able to sync them together to use redrum within reason as my drum machine. I am using a MOTU 828 mk II audio interface with 8 in's and 8 out's.
When I start logic first and the reason I am not hearing any sound from reason. I can see the meters move in the mixer of reason but I hear nothing.
From the standard documentation that comes with Logic all I can figure out is that rewire is there to sync any other rewire program so that can run side by side of one sequences transport controls.
I want to be able to hear audio from both my arrangement in Logic and in Reason at the same time in the same song in sync.
Can someone please tell me firstly if this is possible and if so how can I implement this kind of setup.
    Thanks in Advance.

Common problem. LP doesn't rewire 'out of the box'.
There are two ways to do this (well, more, but I'll tell you 2)
    1 (Easy Way):
Restart Mac (Just to be sure things are sorted, not everytime)
    Launch Logic
    Launch Reason
    Arrange Window
    Choose a Channel> Pan Left
Go to the Middle section of the Parameters on the Left
With the Channel pop up menu, select Rewire> RWMix L
Repeat for the Right and away you go.
    2 (More Advanced)
    Environment Window
In the Middle section of the parameters on the Left select Create
    Name it Rewire
Under that windows "New" pull down (Top Left), pull down to Audio Object
In the "Channel" pop up (Left, bottom section) select>Rewire (Left, right, 3,4... What ever you want.
Double Click the Audio Object to expand it
Pan Left or right, or whatever you need.
    Rename if you wish
Do the same for the other stereo sideNow's the fun part. Assign these stereo pairs to a bus (above the fader, the default is "Out 1-2")
    Go to the Mixer window
Double click the Bus you assigned, this puts it in the arrange window
    Arrange window
Name the Bus "Rewire" or "ReDrum" or something great like that.
Now you can use it like a stereo pair (which I wish Logic had) for automation and effects and such.

  • Misaligned Bounce when rewired with Reason/Record

I have several projects where I rewire Record/Reason into Logic. This is not unique to one project, this is happening to EVERY Logic project I have.
When I play the track rewired, it sounds fine. When it is bounced, it is horribly misaligned. I've tried offline and realtime bounce--no difference.
    I'm using Logic 8 and Reason5/Record1.5

Same issue with Logic Pro 9 and Reason 5.01 for me and everyone else using this set up that I know of.
This seems to be a bug for Reason but it SERIOUSLY needs attention!

  • Syncproblem Logic Pro with reason or Abletonlive

Setting up a loop (4 bars) in reason or live running rewire with logic pro. It doesn´t loop correctly. (when the loops starts over again it "hops" or misses out the begining.)
    All software is the latest.
    Any support?

It's still me, but hey ..
I'm sure Stefy, willing to spend 700 quid on Logic Pro, was not planning on using the build in speakers of any laptop to do music. If so: Wrong. You can however use the build in analog (or digital) output to hook up to a stereo or to active monitors, they aren't bad at all. I've done it myself a few times when on the road.
As for soundcards, I can warmly recommend the new tc Konnekt series. The mic pres are really good for the price (and I use Neve, SSL, Fairchild, Neumann and the like when it comes to pres on a daily basis, just so you know where I come from), and generally they seem quite solidly build and the drivers too (even though the GUI is a bit, ehm, quirky).
Express vs. Pro. Well. You do get some some quite good Logic-only plugs with Pro that aren't there in Express and with the intel based portables you can actually USE these plugs too. There's a few features that I really like in Pro that aren't in Express too. Strip Silence, Curve Tool, those sorts of things. That being said, having to deal with the XSKey sticking out the side of your laptop is a bit hairy, so what I do is I run Express when on the road-on the road, and Pro (XSkey and a couple of iLoks) when stationary-on the road (so to speak). Luckily, the two haven't got any probs whatsoever opening each other's songs. In fact, I've had clients come over with sketches they'd done in GarageBand and both Logics open them NP as well.
It would be good to know what you're actually planning to use Logic for, Stefy. Then it's much easier to advice you.

  • Help with usb Midi controller on brand new machine! Please!!

I just unboxed my macbook pro 13" non-retina and updated to 10.9.1, installed a few of my apps, etc.    I'm having a meltdown over my midi-controller not being recognized. It is a Roland A-49 USB Midi Keyboard controller that is not powering on. It runs off bus power just fine in my older 15" MBP and also from my '12 Mac Mini. When I pull up the system profiler, under USB it reads to me:
How can I get this working properly?

Hi there, been a viewer of the discussions here for a while & felt compelled to finally sign up to hopefully offer some help with this problem as I had exactly the same when I first got Logic Pro.
The problem is more to do with the sound setup than the controller keyboard as logic is sensing midi data as you have seen in the transport.
I would suggest firstly (Hopefully Pro & Express are the same in these respects) clicking on the Logic Express tab in the top left, then Preferences, then Audio.
In the box that appears select the Drivers tab. Then make sure that the Core Audio check box is ticked. Under that make sure that you output source is selected (ie your interface if using monitors, or built in Audio if not)
    Hopefully this should help.
The simplest to test your sound is by clicking on the Audio tab (3rd or 4th along at top) & opening the Loop Browser, choosing a catagory & draging a sound onto a track.
Remember to click on the track you will be dragging onto to select it & in the Loop Browser Blue loops go onto audio tracks & green onto instrument tracks.
Now with testing the controler keyboard...
Click on an instrument channel, then goto the bottom left of the screen where you will see that channels fader.
Above the fader click on the I/O (you may have to click & hold here) choose either mono or stereo, then choose say the EXS24 & try you keyboard.
Hit * on the numeric keypad & play something, then hit space to stop & you will have your 1st region.
I hope this helps with you problem, Logic can be confusing at times but is worth sticking with.
    Good luck

  • Logic unable to handle midi controller data from my alesis andromeda

I'm having problems recording knob movement (filter sweeps, lfo rate
movement) into logic from my alesis andromeda. When logic is in record mode
and I'm moving the filter from low to high very slowly, the data comes out
all jumpy, with the midi in/out meter jumping all over the place.
I found out that because the filters and knobs on the alesis andromeda are
analog, it sends out NRPN data and not regular midi CC's. The NRPN data is
in much larger increments than regular 0-127 midi data. I'm not sure why
but logic was never made to handle this data directly. I've been told that
there is a solution for filtering this NRPN data into data that logic can
    read/write/automate, but i'm unsure how.
If anyone has any insight, it would be great appreciated.
    My setup is as follows:
    G5 Dual 2ghz
    Logic Pro 7.2.2
    Emagic Unitor 8 midi interface
    Alesis Andromeda Synth
    -Adam K

    brennon wrote:
First, this data is recorded into a new MIDI region. Is there a way to record this directly into the existing region? If not, is there a way to copy the data from the new region into the existing region? If so, is there a way to copy ONLY the data from these selected MIDI parameters into the new region. For instance, say I've got my first region with everything but modulation data set, and I then record the modulation data into a new region. Can I only copy this modulation data into the existing region without blowing everything else away?
*Either merge the regions by using the "glue" tool if you want to integrate all the controller data
*To select only certain controller from an event list click on one event e.g. Modulation and then use "select similar" (my KC for this is shift+S) - all modulation data is selected and can be copied/pasted into another Midi region
*You can also write data into existing regions using the Hyper Editor

  • Rewire with reason

In Logic pro 9 when I create external instrument track It does NOT create a channel strip and NO sound from Reason 3.0.5

for use with logic pro 7.1 there is a tutorial on www.proapptips.com
look there. i did have an error in the video.. you do not have to cable the audio object to the rewire object in the environment.
thanks to quadruplesmurf for that tip.
also the tutorial will get you running with stereo rewire objects in 7.1 which actually doesn't support them, but the tutorial show you a work around.

  • Question about programming drums with a midi controller and EZDRUMMER

I have ToonTracks EZdrummer. I am trying to do this. I have a beat I want to put over these guitar tracks but it's too difficult to play all at once. What I wanna do is be able to lay down a steady crash cymbol over and over again till the end of the guitar phrase. After that I want to add in the kick drum and snare, toms etc...How can I do this? I tried just recording over the crashes on the same track with the rest of the beat and it gets all messed up and causes Logic to freak out. How can I do this so that I can record one track of the crash then on another track the kick, snare and/or toms?

There's several different ways to do this, but here's what I do:
I have EZD set up as multichannel, with EZD itself on Instr. 1, plus its 7 AUXs.
I start recording on 1, and play the first part (say your cymbal crashes)
I press Control-Return. This creates a new track underneath Instr. 1 with EZD. Logic record-enables this track
I record part 2, say, the kick.
    Control-Return
Then the third part, and so on.
I can then go into any of the individual regions to correct any mistakes, change parameters etc.
Finally, with the first track selected I select the regions and Merge ("=") and all regions are now merged on the original EZD track. I delete the added tracks, and I'm done.
    Hope this helps.

  • Logic with Reason rewire lagging during recording...

    Hey everyone,
I've been working with Logic 8 rewired with reason 4, and have been having issues with logic whilst trying to record MIDI data through my controller. It will pick up uncomplicated, exactly on the beat things fine, but anything more complex that gets absolutely mangled on playback. I don't think it's the computer because I'm working off a brand new iMac in my school's music lab. Is there anything I can do?
The program really doesn't seem to be lagging "per se" because nothing actually slows down during input; it just seems like it's not catching the notes properly. The stuff I end up with after recording is absolute trash, no semblance of what I was playing whatsoever, and quite unusable. I'll send you a fruitbasket if you can help me.

This applies to Live users on intel as well.

  • Latency Issue with Logic 8 and Reason

    Hello evryone,
I am using Logic 8 with Reason 3.0 and have a Digi 002 as my audio interface. I have set up an aux track in Logic with inputs being RW:L/R and outputs 1&2. When I open Reason after I have opened Logic and go to play an instrument in reason there is massive latency. I've tried messing with the plu-in delay compensation in Logic's prefs. and it didn't have any effect. When I use this set-up with Protools it works beautifully and I don't have any issues like this. Does anyone have any answers or suggestions. Thanks, E.M

Hi and thanks for the response. I forgot to mention in my previous post that I have indeed changed the buffer size time and time again and it has not helped. What is going on forum? This seems to be a common problem I am having with Logic. Why is it so easy to have a set up like this in PT but not in Logic. Ever since I bought this program I have had nothing but stupid little problems like this. Apple, what's going on with the design of this program. How can you have so many cool features and yet not have the most basic things work properly? I am at my wits end as I am wasting time with this product and am about to throw it out the window, trash it to other musicians/composers and go back to PT. Really, where is the Apple support team on this?

  • Business Logic Editor with Complex Transasctions

I'm starting to have some serious problems using the Business Logic Editor with reasonably large (but by no means huge) transactions. These transactions also have nested transaction calls down a few layers. The main symptoms are:
    1)  When opening the Link Editor on the first action it is somewhat sluggish. Opening the Link Editor on the last action can take over 60 seconds.
    2)  If adding a new Transaction Call action, selecting the called transaction in the Configure window doesn't work. The transaction can be selected OK, but the browse window will not close. It has to be cancelled. The Link Editor does not show the transaction's input, even though the Configure window will now show the selected transaction's path OK.
    3)  If the transaction is Saved after 2), that transaction will not open again in the Logic Editor, even after a reboot.
Memory seems to be part of the formula. The above is on a notebook with 1Gb of RAM. On a dual core with 2 Gb, the problems are less, but not much. On a server with 8Gb, the symptoms disappear.
Does anyone know if there is a recommended minimum system config for using the Logic Editor?
What is actually happening when a transaction with nested Transaction Call actions is loaded in the Editor and for exection? I have many transactions that don't have the above problems, but they take a long time to open in the Logic Editor, and up to 1.5 seconds to load when executing the transaction (this is as per the F5 timings).
    Thanks,
    Bill

    Rick,
These days I'm very careful about large embedded reference docs in my transactions. I actually go through the .trx files with notebook looking for any large chunks of that sort of XML and make sure they are eliminated.
In the case of this transaction, by the time I get to the actual SQL query action (and remember it's a few layers of nested transaction calls down), it can't run the query anyway. The Query Template name in the configure window is blank. That and any params are set dynamically in Links at run time (the Query Template name actually comes from a config file). If I try Limit Rowcount or Yes when I close the configure window, it just gives an error because it has no idea what query template to run.
Given this, the problem just doesn't seem related to fetching data. And how would this cause the Links window to take so long to open in the Logic Editor?
    Bill

  • Logic X Recorded Midi No Playback with Reason 8 Rewire

Hi, been lookiing for a while but not found anything so had to ask.
Finally upgraded to Logic X and Reason 8. Opened up a fresh project and set up rewire channel fine through create new AUX channel on Logic Mixer, and then created new track on the sequencer. My midi keyboard played the notes fine and everything looked well. Went to record like usual but upon playback no response. The keys in the piano roll won't respond either, but my midi keys do with the signal coming through fine. Using the pencil instead to put the notes in manuallly doesn't work either, which did seem to work on a lot of similar problems.
Am sure it's a small simple problem, any help will be huge.
    Kind Regards

Go to the website for the controller you are using and see if new drivers are available... You want ones that are 10.8.4 compliant (Its not about LPX it's about OS X compatibility)
So, which Midi Controller are you using?

  • How I ReWire Logic with Reason 3

Getting Logic Express 7 and Reason 3 ReWired and working well together took me a few days. Thanks to some very helpful posts here (mostly by users "clangwork" and "mlehmann") and a few other sources I have everything working well. Mostly so I can remember, I wrote down the steps. Hope it helps someone!
ReWire Logic Express 7 with Reason 3
    1. Start Logic
    2. Start Reason
    3. Reason: create a mixer, Subtractor, and NN-XT (any device is fine, these are for example) and select some patches.
    4. Reason: DELETE the tracks for the devices you made in the sequencer, but KEEP the devices when asked. IMPORTANT!
    5. Logic: open Environment window, set it on MIDI Instr. (on left), and click New -> Internal -> Rewire. Do it for as many devices as you have in Reason. In this example I have two (for Subtractor and NN-XT). Click on a Rewire object and set Device (on left) to Reason and Channel to SubTractor. Click on the other and set Device to Reason and Channel to NN-XT. Bus should be 6 for both. Close the Environment window.
    6. Logic: Click on any track icon and hold the button down. In the pop up menu, select MIDI Instr. and then the first ReWire listed. It should show up on the left as SubTractor 1. Click another track and do the same for the other Reason device.
    7. Logic: Select an Audio track and set the Channel to ReWire -> RW:Mix L. Pan the track all the way to the left. Select another Audio track and set it to ReWire -> RW:Mix R and pan to the right.
    8. Logic: I have no idea why, but for any Reason devices to play I need to set up a Logic instrument (any, such as ES1, etc.) and load a patch. Play one note, then select one of the yellow ReWire tracks and you should hear your Reason device!
    9. Logic: Record to the ReWire tracks like any other MIDI instrument!
    NOTES:
You can add effects to the Reason rack and don't need to change anything in Logic.
Set levels, pans, etc. in Reason.
You can delete a device and replace it with something else in Reason and don't need to change anything in Logic. Reselect the channel for the ReWire track to update the name.

  • Reason Rewire with Logic Pro 7.2!

    Hey guys,
I had no problem rewiring Reason in 7.1 on my PowerPC Mac Mini, but on my Intel Macs, with 7.2, Rewire is not an option in the Channel List on an Audio Object or Aux. I notice there is still rewire layers in the Env, but I'm confused about the one slave, two slave thing, (A and B). Am I doing something wrong? Or do I need to update Reason from 2.5 to 3.0? Help! Please!

For Rewire to correctly work on Intel Macs, Both apps need to be running under Rosetta. Since Logic is a Universial Binary, there isn't a way to run Reason as a rewire slave from Logic.
You'll have to wait till a Universial Binary of Reason is released.
    more info http://www.propellerheads.se/
"Early testing using the Apple Developer Transition Kit shows that:
-Reason will continue to run in Rosetta, but the performance loss is similar to running Reason on a G3.
-ReCycle runs fine in Rosetta, with no measurable performance issues.
-ReWire works, as long as all applications in the session are PowerPC-based."
