Logic's Graphics affecting MIDI!?

Hi
Can anyone tell me why is it that when I select certain buttons in Logic, it sends a midi "message" (I guess) that causes ether a keyboard note to trigger or a long reverberation noise from both my Korg Triton & the Roland JV 2080 thru the amt8. This has only happened since I got the MacBook pro and put Logic on it. The buttons that cause it are: Solo, Cycle,Toggle drop... triggers midi Notes in the transport & next to the track names The Mute & solo buttons on the channel strip cause that weird reverb noise, and when I go to record, the flashing record button (lower channel strip) gives off the noise with each flash! Also, when I simply select a chanel... I get the reverb noise!
Anyone know whats happening?
Thanks, Cuz

Hi
No program change checked (in Logic and on the Triton & the 2080) Another thing I noticed is that MIDI notes are triggering both synths...(the MIDI led flashes on both, and every chanel lights up on the amt8) whereas before the track I had selected only sent MIDI to the current synth assigned to that track...and that chanel on the amt8. Now it seemingly sends info. to all.
Someting funny is going on. Is anyone else having this problem?
Thank

  • Want master volume affecting midi export

I want to highlight my jamming on a yamaha ezeg guitar which has no onboard sequence song volume control like the keyboard EZ250i does. I want to do the rock concert midi "Money for Nothing" on my guitar, not, as I have done, on my keyboard with such control.
The rock concert midi I found has dynamics in the volume that go extreme.
The archived thread on master volume No Master Volume, what?
Posted: Feb 12, 2006 7:42 AM did not change this volume on sending to the ezeg from logic express.
Instead, I created a gm mixer in environment (accessed through window menu item).
I slid down all volumes to 61 for all channels.
Now, I get logic express output to midi instrument volume lowered so I can jam tethered to logic express on yamaha guitar.
But the export of midi for onboard sequence has volume that doesn't highlight my jam.
I hope I can do this.
Can someone walk me through, please.

I found I could press buttons to reduce displayed midi events.
I could multiply select, sometimes, and change the volume at the top of the selection to have some sort of scaled or shifted volume happen in the rest of the selection. I didn't try to make things work universally with perfect scaling and it still sounded good. I just focused on fussing elsewhere.
So, I copied the project file and messed with the volumes on the event list this way to get something I could hear myself improvising with and thus practice with.
Music has a lot of dimensions to fool with to get a figure of merrit, so, if you get stuck on one, you needn't whine and complain, you just go play with another.
"Get out of my dreams and into my car" was polite and had no dynamics, only a whole lot of 127's in separate controller tracks for folks without event list windows with the above event filters.

  • Logic Pro X External Midi Recording

I am currently working on pulling some projects I have on my Korg Triton workstation onto Logic Pro X. I am having trouble triggering the midi sounds from the Triton to Logic automatically. I was only able to do this once, but I always have to manually hit record on Logic then attempt to time hitting play on the Triton to record my sounds. I've tried various ways of syncing the midi externally and internally to no avail. If anyone understands what I explained and can help it would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    JB

You mean record the MIDI data, MIDI is not sound.... recording the Triton (audio) "sound" is another thing all together.
The only way to sync them is to have Logic as the Master MIDI clock. (Look in Settings/Synchronization) Make sure Logic is sending MIDI clock to the right MIDI port and that sending clock is enabled.
Then in the Triton sequencer set it's clock to external... now when you press play on the Triton it should "Wait" for the MIDI clock start command sent when you hit "Record" in Logic.

  • Mouse freezes after I fixed logic board/graphics problem. Help!!!!

    Hi,
    I'm sick ofthis stupid laptop!!Aghghghggh
I recently had a problem with my 14' ibook with the display going out. I thought that if I put a monitor adapter on it, it would display, but it still didn't.
Now, I put a search through and found out from Ronda Wilsons posts that you could put a 1 mm to 1.5 mm square on the raised square under the lower case to bring the graphics back. It was a success!!! My computer loaded fine!!!
BUUUUUUUUTTTTTTT, now the darn thing's mouse freezes after about two to five minutes of being on. So when I start it, I can click on a couple folders and then the mouse arrow just sits there.. Then I have to press the power button inorder to restart it. Same thing happens for the fifth time. I also installed a replacement modem for the 14' as well as the sticky square for the logic board problem. Both works fine.
Could my mouse be affected by the change and how do I fix it?

Have you tried resetting the PMU?
The PMU (Power Management Unit) controls trackpad function, so resetting it often helps when the trackpad isn't working (or isn't working right).

  • How do I use my external MIDI keyboard with Logic 7 and create MIDI data?

I have a Yamaha UX16 cord that goes from the MIDI IN & OUT of my keyboard to a USB jack to plug in my Mac. But I don't know how to set it up so I can record myself playing the keyboard via MIDI and then later switch the sound or instrument in the track.

    Hi,
You need to set up your keyboard inside a utility ap. called Audio Midi Setup.
    You find it here:
    Applications / Utilities / Audio Midi Setup.app
Inside this application you should see your Yamaha UX16 as an interface with ports along the bottom of it. Create a new device and name it whatever your keyboard is named, and cable it to and from the Yamaha UX16.
If you do not see the Yamaha UX16, you need to install it's drivers. Consult your manual / the Yamaha website for details on this.
Once this is accomplished, you will then see the keyboard inside Logic, as a Midi input.
Dont' forget to read this document, to enlighten you as to how Logic works, as it is very different that Garageband:

  • Logic only plays one MIDI note at a time. Roland R8

Hey guys, totally new to MIDI and posted this question on another forum, but for some reason I can't get Logic to play more than one note at a time with my Roland R8 drum machine. I've searched the we far and wide along with this forum and the R8 manual to no avail.
Also, it's doesn't seem to play the full range of notes ie, anything above C6, when the R8 manual says that there are sounds there.
I've got a USB MIDI lead connected, with the in in the out and vice-versa. I've also attached a screen shot of my MIDI matrix thing and the inspector window for the instrument.
    Thanks so much!

  • I can record midi data from my Mason & Hamlin Piano Disc Pro Record through my MOTU Traveller into Logic but Logic won't send midi data out to the MOTU Traveller to the Piano Disc player

    Hello All,
I can record midi data from my Mason & Hamlin Piano Disc Pro Record through my MOTU Traveller into Logic Pro 9.1.8  but Logic won't send the midi data back out to the MOTU Traveller and thus to the Piano Disc player. I got it to playback one time but have no idea how and when it did it was looping or something because the velocity was way high coming back in and the damper pedal was slamming down. When I play a key on the piano the midi "in" light on the Traveller lights up. When I play the track back on my computer no lights blink on the Traveller and when I did the apple midi studio test in utilities when I play a key I get the confirmation signal noise and the Traveller blinks when I click on the down arrow of the Traveller in the Apple midi studio test the midi out light on the traveller never lights and the signal light on the piano does not blink either. No outbound signal at all...
I have messed with every possible parameter I can find and and have had help from one of Piano Disc's premier editors but no luck. The piano was prepped for me on Logic so it would work with my studio.  I'm positive it's my fault and I'm overlooking something really simple and stupid but what!??!
Somebody please help.  Thank you all in advance for ANY ideas you might have!

    Blues Piano,
I'm not sure if this will be a help or not.  I'm so Logic Pro wet behind the ears that I make newbies look experienced.  However, I'm not expecting many on the Apple support forums have a PianoDisc system, much less one with the new optical record strip.  While I don't have any record strip on my PianoDisc, I do have a PianoDisc iQ that's only a month old.  I've been playing converted paper scrolls from hundred year old player pianos through it via the MIDI in port of the PianoDisc CPU.  I've found I have to open the MIDI file in Logic Pro (10.0.4) then go to <Track><New External MIDI Track> then copy the existing track to that new external track.  Only then can I see in the Track inspector (defaults left side of screen with the Icon for the instrument) the "Port" parameter.  Then I can select my external MIDI device in that Port selector.
I've also encountered problems with the PianoDisc not using enough force on the notes or using too much force.  To get around this problem, until I understand Logic better, I've been setting minimum and maximum volicities.  To do that I right click on the track and select "Select All."  Then I right click again and select "MIDI" then "MIDI Transform"  then "Velocity Limiter."  In the resulting pop up window in the center is a drop down and you can play with the velocity from "MIN" to "MAX" along with "ADD" "SUBTRACT" etc.
I hope this helps.  I envy you your Mason & Hamlin.  If you need more help on this just email me at pfleischmann at mac dot com.

  • How Will Yosemite Logical Volume Group Affect Two-Partition Drive?

After installing Yosemite, my Macintosh HD became a Logical Volume Group. Now, in Disk Utility, both the Drive and the Volume have the same name — Macintosh HD. I want to use one of two partitions on an extra internal drive in my Mac Pro (Mid 2010) as a bootable clone of my Yosemite startup drive, using SuperDuper!. When cloning is complete, will my spare drive become a Logical Volume Group with a renamed drive? Will that effect the other partition, which is a bootable Mavericks clone?

Thanks for the tip. I see its a common trouble. But i stuck a problem that cannot be solved with this method cause i dont have revertable logic volume.
SO i cannot install system now. There's  no visible disk any more.

  • Logic Not Reading/Writing Midi Information Correctly

I am new to Logic and to the world of midi in general -- so please go easy on me. Here is the problem I am having:
I am using an M-Audio Keystation 88 Pro with a Roland EV-5 Expression pedal plugged into the volume control. When I play software based instruments with this set up (such as Garritan's Solo Cello) everything sounds fine. But, when I record the performance in Logic 8 and play it back, it appears that Logic 8 is playing back incorrect Midi info. For instance, if I do a crescendo from 0 to 127 using the expression pedal and record it, Logic plays it back in a way that sounds like it starts out at around 127 and then drops to a lower number and kind of "flutters" back up into the crescendo.
I am not sure what is causing this and any help would be appreciated.

Open the Midi event editor and check the recorded controller events. Probably the EV-5 is transmitting wrong data to the physical Input of Logic.

  • Logic Pro X: One MIDI note won't play

I am having a strange problem with Logic Pro X. I use a Yamaha CP33 as my main MIDI keyboard, connected by USB. In the past couple weeks, a strange problem has emerged - one of the notes from the keyboard, the B-2, to be specific, just doesn't trigger. At first I thought the key was broken, but it's okay, because:
    - all keys work fine when I use the keyboard's analog audio output
    - all keys work fine in MainStage
    - the non-functional key moves up and down if I choose to transpose the notes on the keyboard.
So I have concluded that it's a software issue specific to Logic. I have already tried reinstalling the Yamaha USB MIDI driver, it didn't help. Could it be some obscure setting in Logic that is messing things up? What do you suggest can I do to fix this?

    Hi
You may have set up LPX to use that MIDI note as an automation control, or as a keycommand
    a) Go to Preferences;Controller Assignments & check there
    b) Go to Preferences Key Commands and check there
Might be quicker to reset aboth?

  • Logic 8 Enviroment - Dynamic MIDI Notes And Velocity

While doing some drum patterns with Stormdrum1/2, what I wanted to do (since I'm not a drummer) is create a simple drum pattern but have random hits to different drum pieces (if a loaded instrument support different drum pieces).
With another MACRO (PlaySeveralWhiteKeyNotes) I created in Logic 8's Enviroment, I'm able to do that.
    Have a peek here.
    http://www.digimixstudios.net/Dynami...esAndVelocity/
    This is just a start.
With the output of my new MACRO, I can further apply a Transformer to have a range of velocities go to a specifie drum piece or even to another MIDI channel.

The link you provide does not work here - shows "Page not found".
It is hard to understand what you want to do, but it seems like you can solve your problem using just a simple "Mapped Instrument" in the Environment instead of Macro creation etc. The Mapped Instrument or a combination of Mapped Instruments offers many features like drum layering, custom pad velocity, midi channel, custom cable output for each pad etc. The Mapped Instrument can be used as Hyper Transformer, something like that. If you clarify your question and fix the link, it will be better for detail support.

  • Logic old bug in MIDI import

I've had this weird issue regarding importing midi files for a very long time.
I reported the bug to the Logic Pro Feedback several times but nothing is changed.
If I import this MIDI file in Logic http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2723724/test.mid
the first time only half of the instruments are recognized. The second time (without closing Logic) everything is fine.
So, to be sure, I always have to import the same file two times.
    This is the first import
And this is the second one
    of the same midi files.
(If you want to try please use my test file because this happens only with some specific commercial MIDI files, not all)
I can't believe after the release of Logic 9.1.7 the bug is still there... it seems that nobody at Apple is reading the feedback.

    Samoreen wrote:
Sometimes, when I use the Synchronize Folder command or when I click on the Import... button, the Import dialog doesn't show up (sometimes meaning here "very often"). Obviously, the dialog has been loaded because at this time, LR is in a modal state (you can't use any user interface element - you just get a beep when clicking anywhere in the main window). The dialog is here but it is not visible.
Actually, it can happen that when the Import dialog is in this hidden state, trying to close Lightroom causes a message box to appear : "Do you want to close the Import dialog and quit?" (or something like that). Well, I don't want to close it, I want to see it !

  • Logic rewired with Reason midi controller issue.

I use Logic 7.2.3 rewired with Reason and for some "reason" I can't get Reason to recognize my controller which is connected via MIDI to the Digi 003. Any ideas?

Interesting question.. Usually, variation in velocity is a desirable thing, to be able to play an instrument expressively. However, if you want to make your notes all equal velocity, an easy way to do this is with the inspector. Make sure that no regions are selected in the arrange window (so that the inspector says 'midi through'). Then adjust the 'dynamics' setting to 'off' (or whatever the actual terminology is), from that point on, anything you play on any instrument will have the velocity ignored. You can also set this kind of thing up for individual instruments, using the instrument parameter box just below the inspector.

  • Logic script invalid function mid()

    Hi Expert
Can i use mid() function in the logic script like:
    *Rec(FACTOR=1,Location=mid(ENTITY.Loc,3,20))
I do try, but it store  "mid(ENTITY.Loc,3,20)" to my database.
any idea how to achieve this.
    Thanks.

    Hi Guik,
I think the best way to achieve this would be by following these steps:
    1. Add an additional property to your Entity dimension which would contain the value of the MID function. This would be there for all ID's
    2. In your script logic you would need to use the Lookup function that would be able to lookup this property using the actual ID
    Hope this helps!

  • Logic loses connection with midi interface

I just opened a brand new project where I loaded in my audio files, about 8 instruments. When I wanted to simply start playing the sound went off, and got the error message:
"Error while trying the synchronize audio and external device.
    Sample Rate 38415 recognized.
Check conflict between Logic Pro and external device."
I many times lost connection and I have to restart the computer to see the midi interface again. I have the latest drivers installed. What else I could do?

    Sorry, newbie question alert.
My Focusrite Saffire LE is a MIDI and audio
interface. It has a single MIDI in and out. I have 4
synth units I want to connect. Can I just go ...
    in > thru > in > thru > in > thru > in > out
Theoretically, this should work and is the reason that
they are there. Now in a real world applicatioin you are
going to have to find out if in fact it will work. There
are a number of things that could be a problem but
I dont want to get you worrying about things that
might not happen. Just make sure you have good cables
and set up all your stuff in the Audio/Midi setup. If you
run into any problems try removing each device one at
a time to see if it is one piece that is causing the problem.
    Have fun
