Logic stopped accepting midi input from my devices

hi.  logic has stopped accepting midi input from all of my midi devices for some reason that i can't figure out.  everything was fine for a while as i was able to play my midi keyboard and record with it.  now there are no midi messages being accepted.  if i open a new project everything works fine.  how do i reenable my midi devices in this project?
thanks in advance,
dave

ok, nevermind, some key command must have switched my cable switcher in the environment

  • Thunderbird 24.6.0 suddenly stops accepting keyboard input in the middle of typing a message

    On a system running Debian Testing (kernel version 3.13.10-1), at times Thunderbird 24.6.0 suddenly stops accepting keyboard input in the middle of typing a message. Some times, it will not accept keyboard input from the time a new message window opens (both from click Write or Reply).
    Regardless of when the problem starts, I can still copy text from another source and paste it into the message, and I can still send the message.
    Sometimes, the problem will clear up itself after a few minutes, meaning I can suddenly start typing in the open message window, but sometimes not, and I will have to close the message window and restart Thunderbird or reboot the system.

  • How to accept user inputs from  sql script

    I want to create Tablespace useing sql script , but the location of the data file I need accept from user . (to get the location of the data file ) .
    How can I accept user input from pl/sql .
    Example :
      CREATE TABLESPACE  TSPACE_INDIA LOGGING
         DATAFILE 'H:\ORACLE_DATA\FRSDB\TSPACE_INDI_D1_01.dbf'
         SIZE 500M  AUTOEXTEND ON NEXT  1280K MAXSIZE UNLIMITED
         EXTENT MANAGEMENT LOCAL;here I need to accept location of the datafile from user ie : 'H:\ORACLE_DATA\FRSDB\TSPACE_INDI_D1_01.dbf'

    Hi,
    Whenenever you write dynamic SQL, put the SQL text into a variable. During development, display the variable instead of executing it. If it looks okay, then you can try executing it in addition to displaying it. When you're finished testing, then you can comment out or delete the display.
    For example:
    SET     SERVEROUTPUT     ON
    DECLARE
        flocation     VARCHAR2 (300);
        sql_txt     VARCHAR2 (1000);
    BEGIN
        SELECT  '&Enter_The_Path'
        INTO    flocation
        FROM    dual;
        sql_txt :=  'CREATE TABLESPACE SRC_TSPACE_INDIA LOGGING
         DATAFILE' || flocation || ' "\SRC_TSPACE_INDI_D1_01.dbf" ' || '
         SIZE 500M  AUTOEXTEND ON NEXT  1280K MAXSIZE UNLIMITED
         EXTENT MANAGEMENT LOCAL ';
        dbms_output.put_line (sql_txt || ' = sql_txt');
    --  EXECUTE IMMEDIATE sql_txt;
    END;
    /When you run it, you'll see something like this:
    Enter value for enter_the_path: c:\d\fubar
    old   5:     SELECT  '&Enter_The_Path'
    new   5:     SELECT  'c:\d\fubar'
    CREATE TABLESPACE SRC_TSPACE_INDIA LOGGING
         DATAFILEc:\d\fubar
    "\SRC_TSPACE_INDI_D1_01.dbf"
         SIZE 500M  AUTOEXTEND ON NEXT  1280K MAXSIZE
    UNLIMITED
         EXTENT MANAGEMENT LOCAL  = sql_txt
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.This makes it easy to see that you're missing a space after the keyword DATAFILE. There are other errrors, too. For example, the path name has to be inside the quotes with the file name, without a line-feed between them, and the quotes should be single-quotes, not double-quotes.
    Is there some reason why you're using PL/SQL? In SQL, you can just say:
    CREATE TABLESPACE SRC_TSPACE_INDIA LOGGING
    DATAFILE  '&Enter_The_Path\SRC_TSPACE_INDI_D1_01.dbf'
    SIZE 500M  AUTOEXTEND ON NEXT  1280K MAXSIZE UNLIMITED
    EXTENT MANAGEMENT LOCAL;though I would use an ACCEPT command to given a better prompt.
    Given that you want to use PL/SQL, you could assign the value above to sql_txt. If you need a separate PL/SQL variable for flocation, then you can assign it without using dual, for example:
    DECLARE
        flocation     VARCHAR2 (300)     := '&Enter_The_Path';The dual table isn't needed very much in PL/SQL.

    I have to step-input an existing score and tried it with the step-input-window in combination with midi-input from an usb-keyboard.

    Tsk tsk, Nigel, don't you see: this is a story - with a cliffhanger... he said he tried... but he never clarifies if he succeeded or not... but still, he has to do it. It's stronger than him, bigger than him, there's no escaping the step-input and midi-input via usb-keyboard scoring... it's fate I tell you! Fate!

  • PC as a bluetooth Device and accept input from other devices

    I need to set my PC up as a bluetooth device by use of a bluetooth dongle connected to my PC. I need to have a program running on my PC that will detect other bluetooth devices and connect with them, accept input from them. Please help me do this. anyone got code for this? Thank you a gazillion in advance !! :)

    There's no way to do is with standard Java as far as i know. You'll have to use JNI to use native libraries.

  • Input from Bluetooth devices presenting a kind of latency

    Hello, I have a MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2013) and since I upgraded from Mavericks to Yosemite, input from my Magic Mouse and Bluetooth Keyboard (regular genuine from Apple) have been presenting a kind of input latency. If I stay about 3 seconds without operating any of them, then I give new input, there is a certain latency on graphical response of about a second. It happens with any kind of input from them both, be it keystrokes, mouse clicks, gestures ou mouse move.
    This does not happen with the builtin keyboard nor the trackpad, that is why I am almost certain it has to do with devices being bluetooth connected.
    I already tried rebooting (worked once, for a brief time), turning on and off the devices, unpairing devices and pairing again, and combinations of aforementioned actions.
    Thanks for the reading, any help attempt is welcome!
    MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Yosemite (10.10)

    Touch pad is ok in my Mac. But input in a new text field in Safari always lost the first letter.

  • Incoming MIDI data from unassociated devices still gets sent out in 2.1.3

    The problem I have reported numerous times for previous versions of MainStage is still present in 2.1.3.
    An incoming MIDI CC value that is NOT associated with a device is being sent to other channel strips. Last night before rehearsal, I added a Minimoog XL into my rig. It's connected via its own MIDI port on a MOTU 128 Express. I discovered that when I turned the Vol control on the Minimoog, it sent out CC 7 and CC 39 (LSB values for volume) messages to a channel strip associated with a VocalLive voice processor and had absolutely NOTHING to do with the Minimoog.
    As reported before, this also happens for CC80 and CC81 and I cannot see any reason why such events would get sent out to other channel strips if there is no explicit mapping defined.
    I had to add in new dummy knobs to explicitly block these values, further polluting my layout, which is already full of knobs defined just for blocking stuff.
    A generic MIDI device set to listen on all inputs and MIDI channels with output blocked does NOT stop this from happening.
    More details are in these older threads:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/12572359#12572359 and with more detail (including how to reproduce) at
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/15483068#15483068 is still present in 2.1.3
    (I've already submitted this at the feedback link (which, by the way, has no entry for 2.1.3 in it) but I am quite pessimistic about this getting fixed, it has survived many versions of MainStage....I don't understand why)
    This is so disappointing.

    That's partially why I'm so concerned about this --- I cannot conceive of a scenario where this behavior makes any sense --- essentially some external synth can generate arbitrary MIDI data which just goes out through other channels, and that data is at best of no interest and at worst can actually screw up the receiving device (which happened to me when my Korg Oasys was sending out CC80/CC81 as part of a program change and it was changing a parameter on my Minimoog)
    It seems to me that they could have fixed this quite easily by providing (perhaps an extended version of) a MIDI Device that REALLY blocks everything so users with the problem could just throw that one gadget into the layout instead of having to make a bunch of knobs to block all sorts of things.

  • Logic slowing down MIDI commands from USB interface?

    ok here is a strange one:
    i got one of the new moog little phatties, great synth btw. but here is what i have to deal with (and this does not happen with my other synths, but it still may be logic's fault):
    when the moog is connected with both, midi in and out, via a motu midi interface (and i tried out a different one as well) it happens that various values of a selected preset on the moog start jumping and rapid movement of the mod wheel results even in crackling noises.
    now, this does NOT happen, when the moog is not connencted via midi to the computer or if logic is not launched.
    i also tried different cables.
    it seems to me as if the midi signals coming in to logic cannot all be processed properly (the crackling noise?) and some kind of weird feedback must be happening to make the moog freak out.
    i also tried to use midi monitor to see if there are strange midi signals, but i could not detect one.
    i also tried to use a different audio interface. but the crackling is still audible (and goes away if the moog is not connected).
    so, any of you logic wizards, is there anything you could think of on the side of logic, what might cause this?
    it is really strange because on one hand it only happens when logic is launched but on the other hand none of my other hardware synthesizers show this behavior.

    yes, local is off on the phatty (tested with both local on and off with same results.)
    when i have the midi cable that goes from the computer into "in" of the LP disconnected i do not have the problem.
    but as soon as both cables are connected and regardless of local on or off in the little phatty it starts acting up again.
    i also can have both cables plugged in and select a track in logic that is not linked to the LP i can play no problem (monitoring on headphones). as soon as i go back to the correct track which is linked to the correct port and channel on which the LP is on, the problem re-occurs.

  • Input from devices?

    I was weondering if you could somehow obtain input from other devices using java. For example a barcode reader or a bike monitor. I am wanting to do something with either a bike speedo or a laser to time something. If anyone knows how to set it up I would appreciate some help.
    Thanks

    It is an iteresting question, cos file IO has a handle notion. Win32 has an opportunity to open device by symbolic alias, for example "COM1" or filename, write/read data to/from this device, flushing and closing connection. Almost like stream IO. It is interesting for me to know what about other OS'es and why there is no general Java interface to connect to any abstract device.

  • Is is possible to truly disable a midi input device in Logic 9?

    If I remove all midi input devices from the Environment Window including the Physical Input object, midi tracks will no longer respond to external midi controller information (as it should be). However, if I open the Controller Assignment window and click the Learn button, Logic still reads data from all midi devices currently recognized by OSX. Aside from completely removing midi devices at the operating system level, is there a way to configure Logic to completely disregard midi information from a specific midi device as you can do in other DAWs such as Ableton Live...or is this simply a bug?
    I am using the latest cut of Logic 9 with OSX Lion.

    there is no such option- unfortunately. but you can trick logic by plugging a cable from the correlating port of the input object to eg a monitor object and just leave it there.
    this way all midi arriving from that particular port will be sent into nirvana (midi to nirvana interface )

  • Is there a way to show/reveal the piano roll (or score) from a midi input when recording an audio track in Logic 9?

    I'm trying to record audio tracks in Logic 9 over midi tracks I've created using a software instrument.  I've done this before, and there used to be a no problem in seeing the midi information in the piano roll or the score while recording audio tracks, but it now impossible to reveal.  Has ayone else exerienced this?  Was there a change (update) that eliminated that as an option?  Or did I do something in preferences somewhere (unbeknownst to me when doing it) that has caused this?  Thanks for any suggestions.

    Just open the piano roll fro the regions you want and deselect the chain icon at the upper left.

  • How do I set up multiple midi-input devices:WX5 wind & keyboard controllers

    Hello,
    I'm trying to setup my system to utilize two midi input devices.
    1. Novation Controller Keyboard connected through USB
    2. WX5 wind controller connected via VL-70 tone module with midi out cable to channel 1 of my Motu midi interface.
    As it is currently setup I am able to play both my Wind Controller and MIDI Keyboards fine, but for some reason whenever I finish playing the Wind Controller, the MIDI Keyboard no longer plays sound (it plays midi fine according to the transport, but no sound is created until I load another patch of the EXS).
    What am I doing wrong? Should I be switching between inputs in Logic somehow? How can I setup my system to be able to jump back and forth between my midi keyboard and wind controllers? I have done no setup besides cabling the devices in the AudioMidi setup (outside of Logic).
    Thank you in advance for any help you can provide!

    This is just a guess, but if the last thing your wind controller puts out is a volume message of zero (as I think it would do as you stop playing the last note) then you would need to send a volume message to the sound module to reset it to the desired volume.

  • How do I select a midi input device and record midi?

    I have several midi input devices connected to my computer. I use them regularly with Digital Performer. I am trying to record a single midi track in Garage Band using an Oxygen 8 keyboard. In the preferences GB says that it sees 7 midi devices. How do I route midi with Garage Band and how do I tell Garage band which midi device to record from? When I create a midi track (well...I think that it is a midi track) and I try to record I do not see any midi notes being recorded.
    Searching the help file for midi provided surprisingly little information. I am sure that this is simple stuff...perhaps so simple that I am missing something obvious.

    Yes, if the controller sends the right MIDI messages
    What do you mean by "the right midi messages"?
    I have a virtual instrument (with for example) a delay effect knob. I would like to turn a knob on my midi controller and adjust the delay in the virtual instrument (as I can in just about any other sequencer). Can GarageBand do this, if so, how?

  • I can record midi data from my Mason & Hamlin Piano Disc Pro Record through my MOTU Traveller into Logic but Logic won't send midi data out to the MOTU Traveller to the Piano Disc player

    Hello All,
    I can record midi data from my Mason & Hamlin Piano Disc Pro Record through my MOTU Traveller into Logic Pro 9.1.8  but Logic won't send the midi data back out to the MOTU Traveller and thus to the Piano Disc player. I got it to playback one time but have no idea how and when it did it was looping or something because the velocity was way high coming back in and the damper pedal was slamming down. When I play a key on the piano the midi "in" light on the Traveller lights up. When I play the track back on my computer no lights blink on the Traveller and when I did the apple midi studio test in utilities when I play a key I get the confirmation signal noise and the Traveller blinks when I click on the down arrow of the Traveller in the Apple midi studio test the midi out light on the traveller never lights and the signal light on the piano does not blink either. No outbound signal at all...
    I have messed with every possible parameter I can find and and have had help from one of Piano Disc's premier editors but no luck. The piano was prepped for me on Logic so it would work with my studio.  I'm positive it's my fault and I'm overlooking something really simple and stupid but what!??!
    Somebody please help.  Thank you all in advance for ANY ideas you might have!

    Blues Piano,
    I'm not sure if this will be a help or not.  I'm so Logic Pro wet behind the ears that I make newbies look experienced.  However, I'm not expecting many on the Apple support forums have a PianoDisc system, much less one with the new optical record strip.  While I don't have any record strip on my PianoDisc, I do have a PianoDisc iQ that's only a month old.  I've been playing converted paper scrolls from hundred year old player pianos through it via the MIDI in port of the PianoDisc CPU.  I've found I have to open the MIDI file in Logic Pro (10.0.4) then go to <Track><New External MIDI Track> then copy the existing track to that new external track.  Only then can I see in the Track inspector (defaults left side of screen with the Icon for the instrument) the "Port" parameter.  Then I can select my external MIDI device in that Port selector.
    I've also encountered problems with the PianoDisc not using enough force on the notes or using too much force.  To get around this problem, until I understand Logic better, I've been setting minimum and maximum volicities.  To do that I right click on the track and select "Select All."  Then I right click again and select "MIDI" then "MIDI Transform"  then "Velocity Limiter."  In the resulting pop up window in the center is a drop down and you can play with the velocity from "MIN" to "MAX" along with "ADD" "SUBTRACT" etc.
    I hope this helps.  I envy you your Mason & Hamlin.  If you need more help on this just email me at pfleischmann at mac dot com.
