Logic Studio 32 bit and (AU)East West Quantum Leap Goliath 64bit Question

I have a Mac Pro 8 core Zeon Harpertown processor's. Its the latest mac Pro with 10 gigs of ram.
I also have Logic Studio 2 and Logic Express. I just purchased East West Quantum Leap Goliath.
Here is the major Dilema:
Mac OS is 64 bit. East West is 64 bit but Logic is 32 bit.
Won't there be a problem with east west AU being run on 64 bit in a 32 bit application? East West New Engine is 64 bit so its not just the samples its alos the engine.
The only 64 bit audio sequencing software right now is Sonar. I heard it was 64 bit because of its Video module is also 64 bit.
Anyhow how is this going to work running an AU that is 64 bit in a 32 bit application?

Are you sure? There would be absolutely no point whatsoever in releasing a Mac 64-bit plugin, as there are no 64-bit hosts on the Mac, and likely won't be for some time. Logic isn't going fully 64-bit anytime soon.
You can't run 64-bit code in a 32-bit host, so why would they release a Mac plugin version if it was essentially unusable..? And how would they test it..?
Edit: I just looked at the press release. It says "32-bit support is also included".

it's worthwhile considering the VSL Special Edition, but check whether anyone else is running it on macbook, my iMac (also 4GB) is very happy with it, and some of the sounds are wonderful.

Logic 8 64-bit and More RAM

We are running out of RAM. We have a G5 2.5 Quad with 10 GB of RAM running 10.4.11 we use tons of audio units in one session. 3 instances of storm drum 3 of storm drum two, atmosphere, east west symphonic orchestra, EXS instruments, KORE and many more. Our processor can handle all of this when we freeze or burn to audio but the problem is that we can't access all of our RAM. Logic freaks out when we get close to using 4 GB. I've been watching the RAM fill up in the activity monitor utility.
So here is the question that I pose to you. If we update to 10.5.x will we be running in 64 bit and therefore able to access all (or more) of our ram thus solving our frequent crashes and allowing us to load more audio instruments? Any suggestions thoughts would be a big help.

if my understanding serves me correctly a plug will not operate within logic as a 64-bit. what happens in the case of the exs and it would hold true for any other plug which is dependent on RAM is that dynamically access RAM outside of logic until the RAM runs out and then it starts depending on streaming. the technique for this is similar to (but not the same) as virtual memory, where the system will use a hard drive cache as an extension to physical RAM. its all meant to be transparent to the user.
to the fellow talking about gehards comment, my understanding of the situation which came from someone well informed about this, is that there would be big performance hits for going 64-bit with logic, and the only reason it needs to is so that you can have access to more RAM. but you don't have to do that to get to the RAM and hence they didn't go down that road. i am not sure that what he meant was that logic could make a 3rd party au access memory outside of its own space unless the 3rd party was programmed to.
there ARE ways around for the short term which is to run the au outside of logic. i am doing this at the moment and it works fine. its only a very minor inconvenience.

Seems that you have to update Logic to the latest version (9.0.15) to get it to work in Lion.

No difference... the Academic version cannot be upgraded to the next major revision.
If you had putchased the Logic 9 academic version you get all the updates 9.0, 9.03, 9.1, 9.3...etc
When Logic 10 rolls around you would have to purchase the application at full price, your version isn't elgible for the upgrade price.
Same software as the retail version though.

Hey Mike sorry its just a matter of habit that i say VST, it is the AU version and I am running and Logic 9.1.5 in 32 Bit mode... i think there is something wrong with the auvaltool as it keeps crashing... currently on the phone to apple support atm so will post back here if and when i get the fix for it... Cheers for the help ... Ps EW tech support just told me to uninstall then re-install, as if i hadn't tried that a few times and it still didn't install... so have reverted back to Play version 2 for EW off my Start-up HD so at least i can use them as stand alone device... East West Sample Library

I just purchased the Silver Bundle edition from East West Quantum Leap Symphonic Orchestra and can't figure out how to import the library or the Kontakt player it comes with into logic... any advice?
Likewise, my normal midi keyboard isn't working within kontakt player itself... any advice?

All of the east west libraries that run on Kompakt are NOT compatible with the intel macs.
Your options are to either wait a few months until their new player supports Silver, or spend $269 buying the Kontakt crossgrade (which is a universal binary). Or you can see if they'll take it back and let you buy a library that actually works. Good luck.

Different versions of logic studio?

Hi people! It's my first time posting here.
I have a question to ask. You see, I bought the logic express just before the logic pro standalone version was released and I feel like I had been sucker punched hard in the guts. I'm looking to upgrade my logic express from the prev apple offerings of upgrading to logic studio. I've looked at eBay and amazon for the upgradable logic studio but I'm seeing logic studio v2.0 and logic studio

My question is which is the latest version offered before the standalone logic pro was announced? Or is there even such thing as an apple logic studio 2? I've compared the specs and both seemed to be offering the same specs and etc.

Major Logic Studio 9 Upgrade install issues

I tried to install Logic Studio 9 upgrade today and there are a lot of problems. For one, Compressor 3.5 did not install, leaving me with 3.0.5. Quartermaster also did not update, leaving me with 3.0.5 of that as well. Soundtrack is at version 3.0.1.
The Logic Studio 9 Installer just keeps Soundtrack and Compressor grayed out, so I can't do anything about that. I followed the instructions on the Knowledge Base article about the iLife 11 conflict, but that didn't make any difference.
I also cannot log into the updates page on Apple's web site here (http://www.apple.com/logicstudio/download/). I have tried my Logic Studio 8 serial number and the serial number from my Logic Studio 9 Upgrade, and it just keeps telling me that they are invalid numbers. I have tried them with and without the dashes. The LS9 Upgrade installer accepted my serial numbers no problem, and I sent the registration to Apple. I'm totally baffled as to why the web page is denying me access.
I have spent HOURS on just trying to get this software installed properly, and I have never seen such a mess. I wish I could just uninstall everything and start over but they don't even include an uninstaller. So at this point I have no clue how to get access to the support page since it's denying my serial numbers and it's not letting me update Compressor or Quartermaster (but everything else seems to have updated). It also keeps EX24 synth grayed out.
I know this is a mess of a post but I've been trying to get this going for hours and hours and am exhausted and frustrated. Thanks for any advice.

Ok, for some reason the Apple Support site is accepting my serial number okay, but it seems what's available as far as downloads is out of date compared to the software update tab.
It seems my biggest problem remaining is just that I have Qmaster 3.0.5 and Compressor 3.0.5 which did not get updated to 3.5 (and then upped to 3.5.3 each with the ProApp Update 2010-02).
I have never had Final Cut, any version, installed so it can't be that, and the iLife 11 "forget pkg" solution from the Knowledge Base didn't work. So what gives? How can I get Compressor and Quartermaster installed?

Getting a new MacBook Pro, Upgrade to Logic Studio 9?

Hey all. I'm getting a new Macbook Pro soon, and I was thinking of upgrading to Logic Studio 9. I own a legit retail edition copy of the previous Logic Studio (Pro 8), and I was thinking of just installing 9 on my new computer.
What things will I need to do this upgrade? I still have the original box, with the manuals. Including the one booklet that has the serial number stickers on it.

Is there really a tutorials DVD with Logic Studio?

Hi there. I installed Logic Studio a couple of days ago and so far its going great. One questions I had is about the INSTALLING YOUR SOFTWARE booklet that came in the box. On page 2 about halfway down it says;
"Logic Studio Demo Songs and Tutorials DVD: The DVD contains a collection of demo songs and video tutorials for your Logic Studio applications. The disk is also a DVD-cVideo, so you may view the tutorials using the DVD player application or any compatible, stand-alone DVD player."
I can open up and play the DEMO files just fine (the roots, plaid etc) but I am not able to play any Tutorials with the "DVD PLAYER" application on my computer.
Other DVDs (like movies) play just fine and of course I was able to install Logic Studio so the DVD drive itself works fine.
Any thoughts? Am I reading this wrong? Has anyone found the Logic Studio tutorial videos that come in the box?

Logic at 64 bit?

I just purchased QLSO Play edition which is a 64 bit plugin, and I was convinced to use it taking advantage of my all 10 GB RAM, but EastWest support told me that Logic is not a 64 bit application.. Is it true? And if so, when will it come to 64 bit version?

Yes it's true, Logic is 32 Bit and when it will become 64 Bit nobody knows. So 2,7 Gigs of physical RAM is about all you can use in Logic, if QLSO works as a standalone app you could wire it via the IAC Bus and Jackrouter into Logic, giving you another 2 Gigs of usable RAM.

The reason I asked is because I don't understand how you managed to install 9.1.1 on your iMac...
So... out of curiosity, as you didn't actually answer the question... how did you install 9.1.1 on your Mac given the DVD version is 9.0.0?
As to your questions...
You may install Logic Pro 9 from the Logic Studio package legally on one desktop and one laptop you own... as per the Logic Studio license terms and conditions..
However, had you purchased Logic Pro 9 via the App store, rather than via the boxed edition of Logic Studio 2.0..   that licence, is different and allows you to install LP9 on any number of computers you own for your own private use.. using your Apple ID and the purchased tab of the Mac App Store application.
If you feel Apple should have done a better job in notifying you about the requirements of Logic Pro 9 in reference to the 9.1.6 update being needed under Mountain Lion, why don't you contact them and tell them... via the feedback form,
