Logic Studio 8 - HELP!

Right,
So i've upgraded to MAC OS X Lion to find out that Logic Studio 8 no longer works, so I tried to downlaod Logic Studio 9 but no serial would work.
So I found online that a guy figured out how to open Logic Pro 8 with OS X Lion from going through some way of doing it so I uninstaled Logic 9 and have just tried to instal Logic Studio 8 again, only to find that the new operatin system doesn't even let me launch the installer anymore.
I now have two options. To buy Logic Studio 9, or try and figure away around it.
My friend has all Logic Studio 8 on his mac, is it possible that if I found out all the different files that Logic Pro 8 needs to function and copied them off his macbook onto mine into the correct places that Logic 8 would work??
Please help with this, really desparate to get this back up and running as I use Logic live in my band and have a gig this saturday!
Thanks.

it was a long shot to get it, just think it's a joke to ask people to spend another £166 on Logic 9 just because that operating system doesnt support it, it should support all versions but hey, it's another way of making money.
i have been looking but haven't found an answer as yet, very frustrating.
another way i've found is to just reboot my mac bac to snow leapord factory settings, but i don't have the discs for snow leapord.

Another question...how do I Un-install logic studio and logic seven if it comes to this.

This is an extremely frequently asked question and a search will turn up a lot of posts.

  • I have an upgrade version of logic studio (9.1.1.) which I want to run on an imac with 10.7.4 osx Lion and after a seemingly successful install it's telling me that this version of logic studio isn't supported by my osx...Can someone help me with this?

I also want to add that I've found the updates to logic pro 9.1.2 thru 9.1.7. and when I download them they tell me they are either not needed or don't seem to actually update anything.  Someone was saying that Logic Studio isn't a fan of Lion and I should install Snow Leopard, complete Logic updates and then re-install Lion.  PLEASE HELP!!!

    Hi there,
You're running an old version of Safari. Before troubleshooting, try updating it to the latest version: 6.0. You can do this by clicking the Apple logo in the top left, then clicking Software update.
You can also update to the latest version of OS X, 10.8 Mountain Lion, from the Mac App Store for $19.99, which will automatically install Safari 6 as well, but this isn't essential, only reccomended.
Thanks, let me know if the update helps,
    Nathan

  • What's the best way to (re)install Logic Studio? Need Help.

I bought Logic Studio a few months ago and installed it on my new MacBook Pro 2.4Ghz with 2G Ram, 160G hard drive @ 7200 rpm. Being new to Logic, at install, I just put all 40+ gigs of content on the computer. After a while I considered putting the Apple Loops (roughly 12gigs) onto an external hard drive to save space on my computer, just to see if it would work, then consider moving more content over later. After doing this the Logic application couldn't find the Apple Loops, and I couldn't find a way to help it see the new path, so my Apple Loops were essentially rendered useless (since I had already deleted them from the computer). So I stopped right there, and haven't done anything else. Just worked with Logic without using Loops, which I have to say is still an incredible program.
What also seemed strange was this: In moving the Apple Loops, the available disk space on the computer didn't seem to change much. It went down a few gigs, but not the 12 or so I was expecting. Not sure why that is. It seems like Logic and all the content is actually taking up around 50 gigs or so on my computer (and the Apple Loops are supposedly gone or not available). What is that about?
Feeling like I had really fouled things up, I called Apple Care. They said that the content of Logic is stored in many places in the computer's libraries and system folders, but it was really confusing trying to locate all of it, because the info they sent was from Logic 7 and older versions of GarageBand. I guess Logic 8 is too new for them to have anything on it. There is no uninstall for Logic Studio. But they strongly recommended that I perform an Erase and Install, and then re-install all my software including Logic, and then assign the hard drive I wanted the content in. That would open up a lot of the computer's hard drive space, they said. It seemed like an extreme measure to take for such a small blunder, and I haven't tried it yet, but will if it's the best option.
If I do this, is running Logic content (i.e. Loops, Impulse Responses, Jam Packs, etc.) from an external hard drive (and the one I have to use is 5400rpm--is that too slow or am I getting too picky?) the best way to go, or should I have all Logic material coming from the same machine? How do I get some of my hard drive space back?
    Ugh.
Has anyone out there experienced this too? Is there anything documented about where the content is stored for Logic Studio? Is Erase and Install really the best thing to do in this situation?
    So many questions...
    Thanks.

    Hey Blue,
Let me see if I can help you a bit.
Logic Studio has 28+ gb of loops. Almost 23 for STP and 6 for the Jam Packs, etc. They should be located in /Library/Audio/Apple Loops/Apple (that's the default install loc.). Copy them to an external drive and then delete them from your main drive. Go to /Library/Audio/Apple Loops Indexes and delete those text files. Now go to /Library/Preferences/Soundtrack Pro and delete those text files, too (more Loop Indexes).
Now open Logic Pro and it will say 'No Apple Loops found'. Click 'OK' and then open your Loop Browser. Drag all the Jam Pack folders, STP folder, etc. that you want to use onto the Loop Browser. Logic will ask you if you want to 'Copy to Loops Folder' or 'Current Location'. Choose 'Current Location'. Logic will now index the loop folders.
NOTE: You can change the names of the folders to suit your liking. For example: I added the 2, 3, 4, 5 after the Jam Pack names to make it look smoother on the popup menu and changed iLife Sound Effects to Sound Effects - iLife and Apple Loops for STP to STP. Now the Jam Packs 1-5 come up first on the popup menu and the FX stay at the bottom. I likee!!
Now, if you like you can take your EXS Factory Samples and Ultrabeat Samples, 3.35 & .889 gb respectively, and copy them to an external drive. I have mine in the same place as my Jam Packs, etc. You can find these files in /Library/Application Support/Logic. Toss out the originals and put ALIASES from the external drive back into the /Lib/App Sup/Logic folder.
Also, if you open STP and click the Search tab in the right pane you will see a button that says 'Setup' next to it. Click that and you can use the checkboxes in the window to activate/deactivate any of the loop folders available.
A clean install is the best IMO if you have a little time because a) you DO NOT have to install GB at all (that saves the .aif file size - Logic Studio uses .caf files at half the size of the originals) b) Logic Studio will install the extra GB or Logic 7 content if you need it at it's reduced size. It will basically get rid of all the old clutter that you do not need. Only install what JP's you want and move the bigger stuff to an external.
Rock up Logic and it should all be in place. That procedure saved me 32.5 gb on my main drive.
NOTE #2: You have another 12 gb (if you installed all Jam Packs) that reside in the /Library/Application Support/GarageBand/Instrument Library/Sampler. These are the Jam Pack Instruments & Sampler files for World, Symphony, etc. They cannot be moved from the startup HD (as far as I can tell). So keep that in mind if you don't want a certain JP.
    Hope that helps,
    Dave

But what ever i tried, gives no solution . At the end a fail .
How can i wipe out all the Logic existence from my computer to make new install ?
Or, what is this problem i am having? As installation is not asking some discs which is necessary for the setup anymore .
    Did anyone experienced that ?
I will be very happy if someone can assist on me this . Since 5 hours i am trying to setup this thing .
    Thanks a lot

it is very frustrating to see such an installation problem happening from a "professional" called DAW .
I am actually a Protools user , and i have never had this type of complications .
I mean come on, i am just trying to install the thing .
On a new system, on a new computer and from an original purchase .
I believe i have enough computer knowledge to instal a simple software .
But i am spending almost 10 hours since yesterday to install Logic .
Instead of making designer boxes or giving fancy advertisements, i am inviting Apple Engineers to create proper working software .
Especially to see a professional audio software like Logic in this epic fall, is very very bad .
I mean you can say i am problematic and don't know how to instal a simple software, but than please write to google, Logic installation problems , and you will see thousands of issues .
Whatever i am writing here not against to the people who are replying and want to help , i just want Apple to read this .
Ah , i am sure Apple won't put attention on it , but doesn't matter .
You just lost 1 customer for Logic
I am erasing this thing now from my computer and continue with Protools as the way i was doing .
Sorry if i am bitter, but this is not acceptable .

  • I am trying to reinstall Logic Studio 7 and I cannot find the serial number. It's suppose to be in one of the installation booklets. I'm not sure which one. Could you help me?

I am trying to reinstall Logic Studio that i bought back in 2008, and I cannot find the serial number. I think I barely remember running into this problem before with this application. When i use the installation disc it tells me that the serial number is located in one of the installation booklets, and it doesn't explain to me which one. Can you help me?
    Thank You!

I produce with a friend and approx 4 months ago we both upgraded to brand new MacBook Pro's each and Logic Pro 9 each.
I bought a 13" MacBook Pro with 4GB and the 2.53Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo processor.
He bought a 15" MacBook Pro with 4GB and the 2.66Ghz Intel Core i7 processor.
We both have bought the full version of Logic Pro 9, both done the upgrade to 9.1 and have both set our copies of Logic to 64 bit.
Why? The only advantage you have from 64 bit is that Logic can use more than 4 GB RAM - which neither of you have. I would strongly recommend setting Logic to 32 bit. On both Books. It might alleviate some or even all the problems - I hope.
Here's a list of unavailable features in 64 bit mode:

My friends copy of Logic on his Mac is so buggy its sometimes unusable.
My mate is about to throw the **** thing out of the window and buy Cubase!
More often than not it is hard to install new software on computers that have been thrown about.
Can anyone shed any light please??
I think 32 bit is your answer. However, the mobile i7 processor does at least have one issue with Logic:

  • Ti Polar MIDI connection to Logic Studio 8 (Really in Need of Help)

Hello virus and Logic Pro Users. I'm in need of desperate help and would appreciate anyones guidance with the issue I have. I have managed to connect my Ti Polar to Logic Studio 8. However, I have came across the issue of MIDI Channels.
    So here is the problem:
For simplicity lets assume I have two tracks. Track 1 is piano, track 2 is strings. I set track 1 to MIDI channel 1 and track 2 to MIDI channel 2 on logic studio. Remember that all sounds are coming from the external device which is my Ti Polar. So, I record my piano track and I'm ready to move on to the second track. *NOW, when I click on the second track and change the keyboard's sound to strings, my first track (piano) changes to strings as well :(*
*What should I do to freeze or lock track one with the sound I assigned to it?*
Furthermore, *I want Logic studio 8 to be set in a way that when I click track 1, my virus Ti jump to the sound that I had set up (e.g. Piano) and when I click on track 2 the Ti automatically goes to the assigned sound (in this case strings).*
Plizzzzzz help me here. I've been trying to read the user manual for Logic and has helped me to some extent but I can't figure this one out.

Thanks for the help. I tried to figure out as much as possible and I think I did exactly what you said... went to environment and created a complete Ti 16 MIDI CHANNEL (16 small squares in a big square shaped thing.
Bust still... when I record track 1 and move on to track 2 - channel 2 to record (which on my access Ti keyboard I manually change its midi channel from 1 to 2 by going to Config section), when I play back, only midi channel 2 or basically the track that I just recorded (track 2) plays back. Track 1 stays silent. Also when I change the tracks (e.g selecting track 1), I don't see any changes on my keyboards screen. If it functions well, I believe, every time I change the track, the sound of the keyboard has to change to the specific sound I have assigned to. Please clarify this for me its so confusing and frustrating.... Thank you.

  • Please help!  Logic Studio won't play nice with my Edirol UR-80 controller

    Hi everyone,
I finally upgraded to Logic Studio (from Logic Studio 7 - quite the upgrade!) when I got my new iMac recently, and I'm itching to use it but can't get it to work with my control surface no matter what I do. I have an older controller - it's an Edirol UR-80, made by Roland, and it worked perfectly with my old setup. Logic will recognize it and I can program some functions to work correctly, but my beloved track wheel and any of the main buttons (play, record, etc.) just won't work. I've done a bunch of research, called all relevant manufacturers, and even took it to the Apple Store, but nobody can help. The folks at the Applie Store said that since it's not a supported control surface, the transport features might just not work. But I thought I would put it to you geniuses out there to see if someone has had a similar problem or any thoughts on what might help. Any help would be most appreciated!
    -Dan

I do not know this piece of equipment, but the rule of thumb is simple: any knob/wheel/slider/switch that sends a MIDI message when touched, can be applied in Logic. So the thing for you to do is to examine what sort of message they send, and then use the 'Midi learn' function to set it up manually.
The best way to monitor midi messages is in the environment, with a monitor object.

  • TS2565 Help me install Logic Studio Pro on OS Lion 10.7.3

I am having an issue installing Logic Studio.  I have Lion 10.7.3 and when I click on the Logic Pro icon it says that you can not run on this OS.  It says Logic Pro is 9.1.1  I tried updating to 9.1.7 but then it says I need Logic 9.0 or higher.  Help!!!

I also have this same problem. Can't install either Logic or FCP7 onto my Lion systems. I tried running under 32bit mode and the same luck. The problem with this is that it works when the software has been installed before the Lion os X upgrade, however if you make do a clean install of Lion then both Logic and FCP7 hang after putting in the serial number.... WHAT A PAIN as now I can't use either products!!!!

  • Updating logic studio 8 - help needed!

Can anyone cleverer than me help me with a problem?
I bought a second hand mac book pro and it had a copy of logic pro on it that when you opened it asked for the serial number. I had logic plat 6 on my previous mac and I bought the update to studio pro 8, installed it with the xs key in and it all seemed to work fine until i did a software update and tried to launch it again. It just came up asking for the serial no as before which the upgrade version doesn't have on the packaging. I then have to reinstall which again works until i try to update.
    I have tried:
uninstalling logic using appzapper before reinstalling.
entering the serial no that is shown when the app is opening up.
running update with the xs key in.
none of these have worked and it's starting to get annoying. I think it must be to do with the version that was on the machine when i got it but using appzapper i have no idea how to get rid of it.
Any help on this would be hugely appreciated.
    thanks in advance.

It just came up asking for the serial no as before which the upgrade version doesn't have on the packaging.
You've confused me with this. Are you saying that your Logic Studio Upgrade package doesn't have a serial number? Because it should. Inside the box are several thin documents, one of which is called 'Installing Your Software.' You'll find your serial number on that.
It's very possible that if you used App Zapper to uninstall the previous LP8 it didn't find the folder that contains the Serial #, and therefore Logic is still running on your friends number. (I just opened LP8 in App Zapper and it didn't find that folder). Go to Your User/Library/Preferences/Logic, and dump the files within that folder. There are Logic preference files in the Preferences folder, but you want to dump the ones *inside the Logic folder within the Preferences folder*.
You shouldn't have to reinstall Logic to get it to be under your license. Just dump the files mentioned above, start Logic, put in the Serial Number in your package, and then it will be running on yours. You might need the XS key in for that.
Once it's all squared away, and it's running from your serial number, you should be able to update Logic without the XS Key and without having to put in your Serial Number each time.
    Good Luck!

I just purchased Logic Studio (academic version) off ebay.  It was only 200$.  When i received it, it was factory sealed and everything, and had the serial number.  However, when I entered the number it consistently gave me the "serial number is invalid".  I know its not any problems with how I entered the code, because I checked all my 0's and O's and 1's and L's.  I also entered it about 30 times.  I'm kind of freaking out.  Any suggestions on how to fix this problem?
