Logic Studio 9 & Logic Pro X?

I unfortunately wiped clean my MBP HD when I updated my iPhone5 to OS7. It's my inadvertent mistake, nothing to do with the OS.
Of course I've lost all the files also.
After re-installing Logic Pro X, I noticed I didn't seem to have as many software instruments as I had before.
That's when I realized I didn't have Logic Studio 9 installed (from the CD package)...which I had previously purchased from the online Apple store.
My question is; now that Logic Pro X is installed, can I go ahead and re-install the Logic Studio 9 or do I have to uninstall Logic Pro X first and then re-install Pro X.
I hope you can help me
Thank you
Dominic

Hey Josh,
Got your message on SC but thought it would be more useful to respond here...
It says that the volume "Lexar 1" couldn't be mounted. It then asks me to mount the volume and try opening the document. How do I do so?
That means that at some point in the past you had a device named Lexar 1 (Maybe either an external HD or a Memory Card, given it's name?) connected to your system that was utilized by the project, that is no longer connected....
To get around this.. I would suggest using the Selective Track Import feature (STI) to import each track, one at a time..  from this project into a new project.. This will help you identify what is actually missing that was on that Lexar 1 drive.... and create a new project you can work with..
Here is a tutorial on using STI. Its for LP9 but STI works much the same way in LPX...
http://music.tutsplus.com/tutorials/how-to-use-selective-track-import-in-logic-p ro-9--audio-3181
This should help you resolve your issue... If not, please let us know...
Cheers..

  • Logic Studio, MacBook pro, M-Audio ProFire 610, M-Audio Axiom 61

I'm just about to get the above: Logic Studio, MacBook Pro, M-Audio ProFire 610 and the M-Audio Aziom 61, and want to know if any of the above (Logic Studio and MacBook Pro excluded) are a big mistake. I've been using an Aluminium Powerbook 17" 1.33MHz, and M-Audio MobilePre USB, and an Edirol controller, with guitar rig (and Controller), and Logic Express 7.
I need a set-up that will work as well in the studio, as it does on stage. We tend to plug everything in to the powerbook at the moment, and use Reason to power the synths, guitar rig for the guitars and bass, and logic express plugins for vocals etc.
Anyone have any experience with any of the above?
    Cheers,
    Adam

    Hi Zuelito,
Please read my first paragraph again:
"I gotta RESPECTFULLY take issue with every point you bring up about M-Audio stuff, Zuelito..."
I'm not sure how you can be "slightly put off by the tenor" of my post given everything I said, with the one possible exception being my line about MOTU making crappy hardware - and that was based on personal experience. And while we're talking about the opinions of others, feel free to peruse the Unicornation board - it's full of MOTU users talking about firewire port failures and other hardware issues - so it appears neither of us is alone in our experiences
Seriously, if I was in some way brash or offensive in the way my post came off, I publicly and sincerely apologize. I really try to think about what I say (and how I say it) when posting on the 'net, for this very reason. I thought I simply stated my experience in an informative manner; again, please re-read my post - I hope it comes across as intended.
For what it's worth, I will say (even more clearly) that I've always loved MOTU products in terms of feature set; maybe that's why I've owned almost every product they've ever made! However, in my environment, I simply can't risk hardware failures, and their stuff has let me down too many times to keep rolling the dice. I will also divulge that one of their top tech support guys has acknowledged the firewire port problem. That's a shame, because they do make great stuff, conceptually. I really wish I could take a chance on that new 896mk3, but it ain't gonna happen for me; 6 dead firewire ports is enough of a failure rate for me to give up on them. To be fair, this probably isn't an issue for fixed installations, but I have to make these connections daily while on tour.
Also, I did NOT categorically state that "M-Audio stuff is better than MOTU." Again, if you re-read my post, it should be obvious that all I'm saying is I have a newfound respect for M-Audio, as of the new ProFire series. I also said in my first paragraph that I shared your opinion of M-Audio for a long time!
If this were all about M-Audio's 410 vs. MOTU's Ultralite (or other competition), we probably wouldn't even be having this discussion as I would have agreed with you - but the original poster specifically asked about the newer 610 with Logic, which is what I'm using on one of my rigs. I simply offered my personal experience.
As for drivers, I've not had any problems with M-Audio or their level of support. Just the opposite - they really seem to be on the ball and are way more communicative than other mfrs. I don't know of any other mfr. that supports each OS subrelease in detail like they do, and their development speed seems as fast (if not faster) than anyone else.
Finally, until now I've only owned a few M-Audio pieces (410, 1814), but I can state that they've been flawless. Their audio quality was not 'high end' by any stretch, but I only used them for utility purposes (writing rigs on the road, etc.). Like I said, my main studio stuff has been RME or Apogee for years, and that's the quality level I'm used to - which is why the 610 really surprised me. I also have several friends who do a LOT of touring, many of which rely on M-Audio hardware (mostly 410s). One guy's unit doesn't even have any paint left on it from road abuse - but it still works like a champ after 4 years.
So anyway, this is all just my experience. Hope it doesn't come across as anything but that
    Peace,
    Jim

  • Logic Studio and Pro Tools 6.9

Anyone knows if there is a know issue about compatibility between Logic Studio and Pro Tools 6.9 software? Whe I launch Logic , it says that it can't find DAE folder and other TDM things...

    Thx Mark,
"probably" would mean that are you sure or just is an ipotetic answer?
Nobody here has Logic 8 and HD2???

  • Using Digi 003 interface with Logic Studio or Pro

I currently have a modified (Black Lion Audio) Digi 003 Rack interface that I use with Pro Tools, but would like to get Logic Studio (or Pro). I have heard 50% say that the Digi 003R or Mixer won't work (properly) with Logic and I have heard another 50% say that it works fine. Can somebody please end this debate once and for all, so I can make the big $500-$1000 decision. I'm really itching to get Logic so I can use all of its great features. I would like to hear that it works fine, but if not, I'd rather know the facts before wasting my money. Thank you to anybody who can put this question to rest.

Lets clear up some things - Logic Studio comes with Logic Pro. . . so that's $500. Logic Pro 7 is old and you don't need it anymore, it WAS $1000. So, no need to spend a grand on Logic.
Next, 003R works absolutely fine as an interface with Logic. The mixer won't work as a control surface (although it will work fine as an interface) because Digi's control surface stuff is proprietary and isn't made to work with Logic.
So, to sum up - Logic Studio is Logic Pro 8 and a ton of other apps and its only $500.
003 Rack works fine with Logic.

  • Can I upgrade from Logic 7 to Logic Studio (Logic 9)?

Can I upgrade from Logic 7 to the new Logic Studio (Logic 9)? Or do I need to purchase the Logic 8 upgrade first?
    Thanks in advance.

Get the 9 upgrade, no need for 8 first.

  • Logic Studio (Logic 8) and Synthogy Ivory 1.5

I'm a longtime user of Tiger on an older mac. I purchased a macbook pro recently which shipped with Leopard. I bought an older copy of Ivory awhile back (ver 1.5 apparently) and just spent 2 hours loading it on my laptop. (Yes...I loaded the AU version). I opened Logic and Ivory does not appear under the Software Instruments in the track setting.
I assume the new Logic is compatible with Ivory and I'm trying to figure out where 3rd party software instruments are stored. I'm curious if I need to move a file into a particular folder or something in order for Logic to find it. This is my first dealing with a 3rd party software instrument, but when I was dealing with samples here recently, in Tiger there was the "Logic" folder where all the factory stuff was stored, but then there was the "user" counterpart folder to this where 3rd party things were stored. (took awhile to figure this out...). I'm not used to Leopard yet, but I couldn't find this in leopard's finder window and I assume the same logic applies to software instrument outside Apple's factory stuff. I couldn't find any reference in any of the Logic literature either that tells you where things get stored so I thought I'd ask here to see if anybody can clue me into figuring out why Logic isn't seeing it.
Sorry bout the long winded explanation, but does this make sense to anybody??
    thanks in advance...

AU plugins are stored in MacintoshHD->Library->Audio->Plugins->Components
I'm not sure why you would want to instal the plugin in this manual way though. Using the original instal disks is a heck of a lot easier.
You will also have to deal with registration and enter Ivory's serial number etc.
    - Just dragging the Ivory's files from another computer will not make things work.
Check to see if Ivory is working via its stand-alone application before deciding that there's a problem with Logic.
If everything is installed correctly then forcing Logic to do a plugin scan should bring things back to life but then Logic usually spots new software plugs on launch. Indeed I've found Ivory and Logic work perfectly together.
The location for Ivory's samples is not specific. You should store them on the fastest storage available for best performance - such as large FW800 drive. If Ivory doesn't know where its samples are it will ask you to find them for it.
    hope that helps a bit

  • Pro Applications Update 2008-02 Update for Logic Studio Owners?

I received Compressor 3.0.3 as part of the Logic Studio 8 bundle.
Pro Applications Update 2008-02 states that it upgrades Compressor 3.0.3, however, Software Update does not offer to update Compressor nor can I download it manually since it is demanding that I provide a Final Cut Pro serial number (which I do not have, I have only the Logic Studio serial number which it won't take).
Does anyone have any idea what Logic Studio owners are supposed to do to obtain Pro Applications Update 2008-02?
    Dave

Well, I would agree except that the update specifically provides an update for Compressor 3.0.3 which Logic Studio owners have as well and the update description states that it is recommended for all Logic Studio users.
"Pro Applications Updates improve reliability for Apple's professional applications and are recommended for all users of Final Cut Studio, Final Cut Server, and Logic Studio.
Pro Applications Update 2008-02 addresses installation issues, compatibility updates, and general performance issues and improves overall stability.
    Applications included in the update:
    Final Cut Pro 6.0.4
    Compressor 3.0.3"

    Hi
    Should work OK:
You will may need the XS key in the new Mac when you do the install, but after that you should be OK to move the key back to the old Mac.
(Not so sure that this would be within the Licence Agreement though).

  • Audio hardware interface to use with Logic Studio 8 and Pro Tools M-Powered

I want to get Logic Studio and Pro Tools M-Powered. I do film sound design and music as a hobby. I plan to compose music with Logic and edit film audio with Pro Tools.
    Here is my main concern:
I want to get ONE firewire audio interface that will work with both programs (Logic Studio and Pro Tools). I need one that has multiple outputs because I will be mixing in surround sound (mostly the film audio). Are there any suggestions? Inputs on what people like, don't like, work well with both? What I should completely avoid? I figured Pro Tools M-Powered (as opposed to LE, HD) would be better for me simply because of price and possibly using the m-audio interface with Logic too.
Let the advice begin please. I will be happy to answer any questions you have for me that would help you provide better advice for me.
    Thank you in advance
    TTW13

Yes, Logic Studio is surround sound capable, but unfortunately a lot of places that I would potentially like to be working at, that do audio post, that I've seen, require a knowledge of Pro Tools. I know it's not the best but it's the industry standard and it's what many companies use so I need to learn it (basically). I don't want to limit myself to stereo outs on the audio interface on PT. Maybe I should to keep my budget down though??? I guess now I'm looking at PT LE and the 003 family, this one in particular
    http://www.digidesign.com/index.cfm?langid=100&navid=126&itemid=5028
I dunno, by the time it's "technically" compatible with Leopard I might be able to afford it.
Anyone currently using Pro Tools LE with Leopard right now? For some people it apparently works???

  • Installing and Using Logic Studio and Final Cut Studio 2 On the Same iMac

In March of this year, I switched from being a long-time user of PC's to a 24 in. 2.4 GHZ iMac. In late May I purchased Final Cut Studio 2 and Aperture and have greatly enjoyed using both of these applications on my iMac. Both run with no problems under Leopard which I installed shortly after it came out. I am now considering the purchase of Logic Studio since I have enjoyed midi sequencing and audio editing for years on my PC's but wish now to do this on my iMac.
I note that two of the applications included in Logic Studio (Soundtrack Pro 2 and Compressor 3) are a part of the Final Cut Studio 2 suite of programs that I already have installed on my iMac. How will Logic Studio handle this issue when I run the install of that software, i.e. will it be aware that I already have Soundtrack Pro 2 and Compressor 3 and just have those install options grayed out or will it overwrite my FCS2 installation of those two applications? Are there other issues or conflicts between Aperture or Final Cut Studio 2 applications and Logic Studio that I should know before installing Logic Studio?
Thank you very much in advance for responding, and I look forward to reading this forum from this point onward.

Thanks again for your prompt responses, blayzay. I look forward to getting and installing Logic Studio. If anyone has any precautions on using it with FCS2 or with Leopard, please add a comment to this thread.

  • Recording with Logic Studio

I've been reading post here trying to decide what to replace my current system with. Up until recently I've been running Logic Studio on a G4 powermac dual 1.25 with 2 gigs of ram. Logic on the main 120 drive. My tracks/files etc. on a secondary internal 120gig HD.
I record one audio track at a time.
A completed song on average consists of about 12 to no more than 24 tracks. Most of which are audio with plug-ins. often a track perhaps two with software instrument. Usually all audio tracks.
My question is wouldn't the white Macbook 2ghz core duo with 4 gigs of ram be able to run Logic with little or no problem. Let's say I record my tracks to an external 7200rpm HD, using Apogee's Duet as an interface? I know there is only 1 firewire port. Could I piggyback somehow?
Would recording to the 5400rpm drive really be that bad? I use to record audio on an original iMac 233mhz with a 5400 HD granted that was sometime ago and it was not using Logic.
I must say I have been looking at Macbook Pro, but like many others... I'm not sure I'm willing to bite the bullet. I know one should buy as much computer as they can... I think I would rather get another desktop at those prices.
I would like the mobility to record wherever and whenever I want to, keeping things as simple as possible. Within budget of course... I'm just wondering if the macbook would work for me.

After loading some completed songs which consisted of about 20 tracks (mostly audio/1 software instrument).. Logic worked beautifully. I had a real hard time mixing on my G4 desktop. With the plug-ins and amount of tracks the G4 Dual 1.25 was choking. "disk not fast enough, error.. yatta yatta.." The dual processors where simply being maxed out. The Macbook Pro 2.6ghz was using about a third of its power. A much more pleasant experience the the Macbook Pro and the Apogee duet.
With my apartment being my studio... not being tied to the desktop in wonderful. I can now record/work in any room.
Yes it is the same version of Logic Studio (Logic 8) I used on my desktop G4. Allowed 2 installs one desktop/one laptop with Logic. Didn't have to intall LE7. Simple put in the serial # when prompted. Took a few hours to load all the content from the Studio package.

  • Difference between logic studio n logic express 9, difference between logic studio n logic express 9

What's the diff between  logic studio and lodic express 9? If i were to get either 1 of it, which Mac Pro shld i get? 13" or 15"

    Hi,
Logic Studio: Logic Pro 8, Soundtrack Pro and MainStage.
So yes, Logic Pro 8 is part of the 'Logic Studio' package, which also contains the two other apps.
    http://www.apple.com/logicstudio/
Take a look at the Logic Pro 8/Logic Studio forum. There are mixed opinions on whether it is worth upgrading yet or not.
    Good Luck!

If it were me I'd close out every program running on the computer, firewall etc.
Then see if you have any luck running QT. If not. What was the last change to the computer before this problem surfaced?
All problems I've expierenced in the past four and a half years, that I have been using a windows computer have been hardware related. Either not installed correctly or a failure of slots or video cards.
You might want to take a look in Device Manager or go to Start>Run>type in>dxdiag and click OK, to get some info, and also check out the video card driver! That's about all I can offer you.

  • Logic Studio tips

Does anyone have good information regarding Logic Studio (Logic 9)?
Just installing on my re-purposed iMac.

OK,let me be specific...I'm new to Logic Studio.  I've been using a stand-alone digital workstation for recording for 15 years.
I recently upgraded to Logic Studio.  The interface I'm using is the Fast Track by M-Audio.
After initial set-up (a friend of mine who has used Logic 7 for years was helping me).  We built templates for recording and tried to do a sample recording using the above with a small mixer plugged in.  We attempted to use a microphone, then a bass guitar to try and get signal to the Logic software.
The fast track was recognized by Logic (we could see signal on the output bus but not on the input).  Tried several times and did finally get a signal but it was overdriven.  As I'm still in the set-up mode of this, does anyone have suggestions for what interface to use with Logic Studio that works well?
I'm open to getting different gear if it's what Logic wants.  Yes, we checked the cables, re-checked that the input devices were seen, etc.
Basically is there a preferred set-up for this software?  I'd appreciate any help.  --Mike
