Logic Studio Install Disks - Which Hard Drive Do I Install Them In?

Hello, im getting logic pro in a few weeks and maybe an external hard drive. and was wondering out of all the applications etc and disks that come with it, which drive i should install each one on. i know that the logic sequencer should go on my internal mac drive. but what about the rest? im guessing that the samples go on my external. but what about main stage, studio effects, wave-burner? here are the full list of items if you care to help. thanks.
DVD containing Logic Pro 8, MainStage, Soundtrack Pro 2, Studio Instruments, Studio Effects, WaveBurner 1.5, Compressor 3, Impulse Response Utility, Apple Loops Utility, QuickTime 7 Pro, and required content
Six content DVDs containing Jam Pack collections, sound effects, surround music beds, EXS24 samples, and impulse response files
also i was wondering if other mac users use any sort of virus protection? i want to keep this mac as clean and free as possible. would virus protection help me or slow me down. i dont go on dodgy websites or download any thing im not sure about or file share ( limewire etc).

Don't sweat it.
It will become fairly clear when you first run the install disks - there are options during the install that will give you the choice of location.
Typically, in many cases you have no choice. The applications themselves have to go on the system disk. You can put samples, loops etc. on another drive, but without knowing what you plan on doing with Logic, or if you plan to include 3rd. party sample libraries, loops and hardware, it's hard to advise. You can always change your mind later.
If you're planning on a lot of audio recording, you'll want to save your project files to your external disk, as this helps with performance. In a perfect world, samples would go on one disk, Logic projects on another, but this might be overkill for your needs. Also, to some extent, your choice of interface will have a bearing - some are happy to share a firewire bus, some aren't. As you have a MBP you have the additional slot for expansion, but it's still something to think about.
As far as viruses go, you're pretty safe particularly as you don't surf around downloading iffy files. There are a couple of Mac malware items out there, and they're likely to increase as Mac's market share increases, but I haven't run any protection software in years with no ill effects, but I'm behind a firewall and like you, I don't download anything on to my machines without knowing the source.

After installing a new hard drive can I install snow leopard directly from snow leopard disc. Or do I have to install previous versions first. iMac 7.1 (2007) 2.8ghz

You can install directly, assuming the disk is newer than your computer and not designed for a different Mac, but doing so won't install iLife.

  • Installing Logic Studio on a new hard drive?

So I'm about to upgrade to a larger hard drive in my Macbook Pro, is there anything I need to deauthorize or deactivate on my current hard drive in regards to Logic Studio/Pro, and how do I do this if I do? I know iTunes has a deauthorize option, and I can't find one in Logic. I appreciate any and all feedback. Thanks.

I've the same question/problem. Any answers?

  • How to transfer Logic Studio 8 to external hard drive

    Hi folks,
As I am running out of space on my internal hard drive, I would like to move Logic Studio and all associated files to an external hard drive.
Please can someone tell me - can I simply uninstall Logic and then install it on the new hard drive? Is there a limit to the amount of times you can install Logic? And if I move everything (including the Jam Pack etc. and plug-ins like VSL & Kontakt) will it affect the playback of previously saved projects?
Or is it possible to simply drag and drop all the associated files and folders into the new hard drive?
Any help would be very much appreciated.
    Cheers,

I did not say it will not work, I said it is not necessary! READ!

  • Cannot boot either from install disk or hard drive

I have done a number of searches, and I have not found a problem precisely like the one I am encountering.
Earlier today, my MacBook (running Leopard 10.5.3) failed to wake properly from sleep. After I attempted to reboot the machine using the power button, I encountered a black box with the following message: "You need to restart your computer. Hold down the Power button for several seconds or press the Restart button."
I have tried all of the usual fixes (e.g., zapping PRAM, removing all power sources, holding down the shift key), and nothing has worked. What puzzles me most of all is that, although the DVD drive is clearly working, I am unable to boot from the install disk.
I would add that, when I old down the option (Alt) key while booting, I am able to see all three of the available options for rebooting. This seems to suggest that the computer is still able to detect my hard drive as well as my DVD drive. Why, then, does nothing allow me to get past the black box with its cryptic (and rather unhelpful) message?
Out of desperation, I unsuccessfully tried to use the option of rebooting from my boot camp partition. I then received a message that might provide a clue. "Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: system 32\hal.dll" Does this suggest anything to anyone?
If I continue to be unable to get past the black screen over the course of the weekend, I will take my computer in for service on Monday. But it would be nice to come up with some sort of solution before then.

Let me add a quick update to my original posting.
I finally managed to run Apple's hardware tests on my machine. According to the tests, there is absolutely nothing wrong with my hardware. But the fact remains that I still cannot manage to boot into OSX--even using my original installation disk.
As I mentioned in my original post, I am able to get part way into the version of Windows XP that is installed on my boot camp partition. However, I am a little nervous about pursuing the possibility of repairing my XP installation. I am afraid that, by doing this, I may inadvertently damage my OSX partition.
Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated. In particular, I would like to know whether there is perhaps some secret way of forcing a MacBook to boot from the installation disk. Is there anything that one can do when holding down the "C" key does not work?

  • How to install a new hard drive in a G4?

I got instructions from the genius bar about buying and installing a new hard drive. I installed it in the front carrier.I must have not connected it correctly as it doesn't show up anywhere on my computer. The main thing I wasn't sure about was connecting the ribbon and power cord. I'm hoping I can avoid another trip to the Apple Store. Diane Cassidy

    Hi Diane:
This is probably not the right forum to be asking such a question, but maybe this link will get you started. it may or may not help considering you didn't tell us which G4 you had, but go there until something better comes up!

I have about 300 songs missing anyway to update the folder to add the missing songs?
If you know the location and you have all the songs in there, you could try the below:
    For iTunes 9:
Choose File > Library > Organize Library
    For iTunes 8:
Choose File > Library > Consolidate Library
    For iTunes 7 or earlier:
    Choose Advanced > Consolidate Library.
    A message will pop up.
    For iTunes 9:
Place a check next to "Consolidate files" and click OK.
    For iTunes 8 and earlier:
    Click Consolidate.
This action copies all of your music and other media files to the new location.

You can go strait to SL, all you need is a retail SL DVD available from Apple for $20. The US online store has them at:

I have two hard drives on my G5(2004). How do I get to choose which hard drive is the start up disk when I turn on the computer? Is it the shift key I hold down?

depending on which model of G5 and  OS installed will depend on whether a key command will work
    alt   at start up may  work, if it does not, use the start up disc setting in;
apple menu > system preferences > system  > start up disc
of course, the second drive must have a compatible OS installed for it to be able to boot.

Does your printer have a slot for an SD card?  Is there are card in the slot?  If so, the computer is trying to mount that card as an external device.  It might be corrupted so that it can't be read.

  • I'm trying to install a new hard drive on my Touchsmart but the recovery disks won't boot.

The Touchsmart 300-1120 is only 1.5 years old and it's hard drive is already fried.  I bought a new hard drive, ordered the recovery disks, and it still won't boot.  I've changed the boot order to go from the CD drive first, but all it does is click and then give the same error message it gave when the fired hard drive was in.  I checked the diagnostic, and it can see the new hard drive...it just won't boot.

Sometimes they do work - i've done it before.  I have a late 2008 Macbook Uni and used the install dvd of my 2009 Macbook White and it worked.
Why not just clone your hard drive?  It'll save you a lot of time doing a clone rather than doing a clean install.
Unless you're having issues with your old set up or  your old hard drive is dead.
You can download Carbon Copy Cloner - install your new hard drive in a external usb enclosure (around $10) and clone fromt here then test it before you install it in your Macbook.
Once you've done the swap, you can install your old hard drive in the USB enclosure and use it as a backup drive.
    Good luck

I downloaded Yosemite OS X and when I try to select my HD (the disk) where I want to install it, the hard drive doesn't have enough space. I have a MacBook Pro bought in 2008. What can I do and still have all my files? I haven't backed up...

Freeing Up Space on The Hard Drive
      1. See Lion/Mountain Lion/Mavericks' Storage Display.
      2. You can remove data from your Home folder except for the /Home/Library/ folder.
      3. Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on freeing up space on your hard drive.
      4. Also see Freeing space on your Mac OS X startup disk.
      5. See Where did my Disk Space go?.
      6. See The Storage Display.
You must Empty the Trash in order to recover the space they occupied on the hard drive.
You should consider replacing the drive with a larger one. Check out OWC for drives, tutorials, and toolkits.
Try using OmniDiskSweeper 1.8 or GrandPerspective to search your drive for large files and where they are located.
I recommend that you also make a backup before proceeding. Just quit the installer.

  • If I can't find the start up disks, is there anyway to get iWork back after installing a new hard drive?

I had to install a new hard drive because my orginal one crashed. When I bought my macbook, iWork came pre-installed. Now with a new hard drive I would like iWork back on my computer, but can't find the start up disks, assuming I'd be able to do it that way. Is there anyway I can contact Apple and have them give me the iWork software?
(Overall, very upset about this since my macbook is only 2 years old and I lost everything. A friend of mine has been working on it for 3 weeks trying to recover some data.)

    - Did you restore from a backup that contained the photos?
    - The backup only contains photos in the iPod's Camera Roll album. It does not included photos synced to the iPod.
    - All you can do is try restoring from backup again.

  • New Mac Mini Server, two Hard drives, Can I install an older Mac OS on the second drive and switch start up disks to run PowerPc applications?

New Mac Mini Server, has two Hard drives, could I install an older Mac OS on the second drive and switch start up disks to run PowerPc applications?

I haven't purchased a Mac Mini at this time and I may not if I can't use it as a non server. I need to update my system I would be better off buying a new Mac with Snow Leopard the last app that will run Rosetta. The Mac Mini Server has a quad 2.0 processor and 4 GB RAM and two internal hard drives and should out perform my dual 1.25 G4. I can run PPC apps on my G4 but it is 8+ years old and seems to be getting noisy. I don't want to tie myself to another old machine. I want a machine that will work with Intel Apps I was hoping that the two hard drives would allow me to boot from the second with Snow Leopard and use Lion on the first drive to be able to keep up to date with all my other universal apps and Mac OS up grades. The application I use the most is my CanvasX app with drawing & vector effects, text & typography, sprite technology, painting, image editing, and multimedia tools are all in this one app but will not be updated to run Intel apps. I am frozen in time because my most valuable Application won't be updated and Apple has cut me off by not supporting PPC in Lion and onward; Apple used to backward support but I guess that they are no longer as user friendly and concerned with a happy user. I have always been a loyal Mac user and I will not migrate to Windows under any circumstance; I hate windows!
    Thanks for your prompt response,
    Dick Deaton
