Logic Studio on new IMAC ?

I bought Logic Studio 08 three years ago for 499 Euro (which is approximately 700 US dollar) and upgraded my IMAC 24 (bought at the same time)
to a new IMAC 27 recently.
I also bought the USB Drive to install my Apple Products that i bought earlier (like Logic Studio).
When i tried to install Logic Studio from my DVD I was not even able to start the installer on my new IMAC. "Does not support Power PC" it says.
I called Apple for help. Guess what they said ?
It is true, Logic Studio is not working. You cant use it anymore.
No, we dont provide an upgrade for Logic Studio. Buy a new one for full price.
Hello ? Are you serious ?
The program i used to work with is just over three years old and you cant expect people to pay several hundreds of dollars every two or three years to buy the new version.
i put 2000 Euro down the drain and will try to return my new IMAC. I am really angry about that kind of "support".
I have been using Apple for decades but this new policy makes the once user friendly brand an absolute no go for me.

I have neither Logic 8 nor Final Cut Studio 2, but both seem to suffer from this particular bug; that is, installers that will not work in Lion/Mt. Lion & return a PowerPC dialog box, but actual applications that will run in Lion/Mt. Lion when properly installed.
If you search this forum since Lion has been introduced, you will see some suggestions to FCS2 users to actually install Rosetta from a Snow Leopard disc into Lion and it will install.  It is not clear if this suggestion works for Mt. Lion.
I do not recall seeing anyone claim that this suggestion would work for Logic 8.
However, it has never made any sense to me that if you could install Rosetta into Lion and get a PowerPC Installer to work, why wouldn't a PowerPC application work; which of course they will not!  Hence, I began to theorize that it must be a bug in a program written for Leopard/Snow Leopard that was cropping up in Lion/Mt. Lion as a "PowerPC app" problem, when it was really not one.
Also, I theorized that installing Rosetta into Lion/Mt. Lion could later lead to downstream problems which could become serious and indeed I read one post recently that may have confirmed that problem.
Finally I came across a blog by Jeremy Johnstone, Installing Final Cut Pro Studio 2.0 on 10.7 Lion w/o Rosetta, which ironically had NEVER been quoted on this forum before, that postulated for different reasons that it was not a Rosetta problem and described a workaround for installing FCS2 using Terminal.  I was able to get independent confirmation on this forum that his installation method actually works!
So in theory, it should work for Logic 8 (as well as any of the other so-called PowerPC installer apps for programs that work in Lion/Mt. Lion, if there are any more), too.  Before I could get a user of Logic 8 to test this theory, I came across Barney-15E's discussion of the roaringapps solution using Terminal.
I suspect that maybe roaringapps came up with their Terminal install suggestion for Logic 8 from Jeremy Johnstone (or maybe my posts here on this forum), as well, but I have no direct information one way or the other.  As far as I know, roaringapps do not cite their source.
In any event, this Terminal solution is another tool in the toolbox for installation of these programs instead of the "install Rosetta" one that I believe is dangerous (and some suggest using Pacifist, too).
Maybe you can do some experimentation if you have these programs and report back to us, too?

Hmmm? A quick google search for external optical readers turns up many in the $20-$40 (USD) range. Didn't convert to £ or include any VAT charges, but you should be able to get something significantly cheaper than £70. That's your simplest solution.

  • Logic Pro On New iMac

    Hi,
I've just upgraded LE7 to LE 8 and intend upgrading again to Logic Studio 8.
I'm currently straining my Powerbook 12 1.33GHZ G4 and need to upgrade soon.
Any opinions on the new 20" iMac 2.4GHZ used with Logic.
I have external Firewire Drives and a Mackie Onyx Satellite FW interface.
I can always freeze tracks if I need to use my Powerbook as a back-up machine. Hence the reluctance in spending the extra and getting a MacBook Pro.
How much faster/efficient is a 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Macbook Pro in comparison to a s 2.4GHz iMac (7200 RPM Drive)?
The iMac I want is nearly 1000 UK Pounds compared to the MBP at 600 more. I could get a lot of studio 'bits & pieces' for the extra.
    Any comments appreciated.
    Cheers
    Neil

    Neil -
Sounds like we're twins. I have the Mackie Onyx Satellite as well; I used to run Logic EXpress 7 on my iBook G4 1.42GHz. It works fine with the aluminum iMac 24".
I just got an iMac 24" 2.4GHz, maxed out the RAM to 4GB, bought the Logic Studio (Logic 8) via the upgrade option. After three hours of installing, everything's up and running liek a charm.
I would skip the MacBook -- you need some serious screen real estate for Logic 8.
And as an added bonus, you practically get... a TV. Yup, I use my iMac as a TV, when I'm not writing tunes. ;>
I have found one issue though - I need to install LE7 on this new iMac. A lot of my songs created with LE7 have broken links and mixer track settings; so I need to revert to LE7 to at least re-link everything, or in a worst case scenario bounce all the tracks. Otherwise, the songs are toast.
Problem is I tried calling Apple to see if installing LE7 AFTER I installed Logic Studio (8), will some elements or library/system/plugins be overwritten or not? And they... don't... know.
    Get the iMac.

  • Final Cut Studio 2 & New iMac

Before I bought the new iMAC I asked if Final Cut Studio 2 (Final Cut Pro 6.0) would work on this computer. I was told yes.
I put the install disc in, and a message of powerpc discs will not work. However, in the folder (on the disc) it says system requirements can be Intel Duel...
Is there something I have to do to get it to recognize the Intel download?
I originally downloaded the application to my PowerPc. That died, which is why I bought the new IMac.
Thanks in advance for any help.

The biggest complaint about FCX is that it isn't FCP. It's all new software with different methods for editing. Takes relearning how to import, organize and edit. Some fine it easy, some find it hard. There's a 30 day trial, so you can find out for yourself. Don't attempt this without training...it's VERY different.
That Apple Employee was wrong, and was just trying to sell you a computer. FCP 6 is 6 years old, and the current OS doesn't take it, nor FCP 7 into consideration as to if they will work at all. SOme people have issues with FCP 7, others don't. But the OS is not designed with FCP 6 in mind...so fair warning.
ANd yes, it takes elbow twisting to get it to even install.

  • Final Cut Studio on new iMac running MacOS 10.8

Several days ago, my beloved MacBook Pro died.
While its portability will be missed, money is tight and the Apple Store's offer of a refurbished new-for-late-2012 iMac was an offer I could not refuse.
    MY NEW HARDWARE:
refurb new-for-2012 iMac, 2.9 GHz Core i5, 8 GB of RAM, 1 TB hard drive, external USB Apple SuperDrive, MacOS 10.8, Apple Thunderbolt-to-FireWire adaptors
    MY VIDEO GEAR
    Canon Vixia HV40 (HDV)
    Canon Digital Rebel T3
    MY VIDEO SOFTWARE
    Apple Final Cut Studio 3
Are there any issues with the new iMac or MacOS 10.8 to be on the lookout for?

Some people have reported issues withthe Tb-FW adaptor in capturing. Lots of posts on the FCPX forum of freezes with the 2 GB GPU. But overall, your iMac should be fast and solid.
    Nice acquisition.

  • Installlng Logic Studio on new machine

    Help.
been using Logic Pro since version 6 and now on 8 (logic Studio)
I have an XS key from a while back
LS works fine on my powerbook
i tried to re-intsall on my imac
    and here is the problem:
    entered the registration
installer asks for original registration or xs key
    both don't work
says the xs key is not valid for this installation
    i'm kinda stumped

Have you tried installing Logic without the XSkey plugged in and insert it when it prompts you?
Also if you have Logic Pro 6 on your Powerbook...plug the XSkey and click the *Logic Pro* menu and select About this way you can find the serial number of the XSkey (if i remember well) then try insert that serial when it prompts you ....not sure if that'll work but give it a try.

    Hi,

My Problem is, how can i install the  logic studio with the dvds if there is no dvd device?
thanks for you advise and ideas!

The same way you have to install all software that comes on CD/DVD:
either you buy an external DVD USB drive
or you share the drive from a second Mac (via the Sharing system preferences)

  • Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 clapping and crackling issues with Logic Pro x new iMac 27"

Hi,  I have just purchased a brand new iMac and downloaded Logic Pro x,  I also purchased the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 interface.  I have downloaded the drivers from the focusrite website and everything is set up,  when I plug in guitar or mic I get really bad clapping and crackling to the point where the sound cuts out altogether.  I have changed buffer size and sample rates and everything else I can think of but nothing seems to fix the problem.  I also deleted the 2i2 drivers and logic and reinstalled them both but still have the same issue,  when I record using the iMac built in mic everything is fine so it's deffinately something to do with the interface.  I am waiting to hear back from Focusrite tech help.  Does anyone else have this problem?  Any help would be appreciated.

I'm having a similar issue which might indicate that the problem is not your interface.
Yesterday I migrated all my stuff from my 2009 iMac to a brand new iMac 27", and when I did a quick test to play back some old projects in Logic there was loads of annoying clicks and pops. My interface is a Roland Octa-Capture.
I also noticed some weird CPU spikes from time to time, which I never had on my older, much less powerful iMac...

  • Bad video=Bad logic board in new iMac?

Just had 2 less than fruitful phone call with Apple; my one month old imac has suddenly developed horrible video problems. (pixelated screen, messed up images, missing info/icons from desktop)
Apparently the logic board is bad and needs to be replaced. Our local mac shop is with the university and is closed until January 17, so we are without the computer until then?
We can't send it in, and the other nearest store is 150 miles away.
Tech people said they've been hearing this... but I thought the problem was resolved before this new line came out? Plus no support for a month?
Sorry quite frustrated by the non-options right now. Is anyone else in the same boat or familiar with this situation? Thanks.

    Hi
    Should work OK:
You will may need the XS key in the new Mac when you do the install, but after that you should be OK to move the key back to the old Mac.
(Not so sure that this would be within the Licence Agreement though).

  • Logic Studio on my new Mac Book Pro

I had one install of my Logic Studio on my imac and one on my old Mac Book. I bought a new Mac Book Pro and gave my old one to to my daughter. I reinstall all my iMac content to my new Mac Book via Time Machine synch. When i start Logic it asked me the key and when i put the key it declined, saying key is not right while i have original printed key which i have tried may time on this Mac book but it does not recognized this key. This iis the same key i install the first time. How should i make my Logic works on my new Mac Book. I am willing to erase from my old Mac Book if i know for sure it will work on the new one.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Moniz

I don't think your problem is with the other installs.  I have logic pro installed in 4 places.  It will however only let me run one instance at a time because it checks over the network.
I think some how you are entering the wrong key.  Or perhaps your key is for a much earlier version of logic?   You might want to contact apple if you are sure your key is correct and valid.

  • Am i able to sell Logic studio?

I bought Logic studio brand new a couple of months back and basically i don't use it, I find it difficult to grasp and i no longer want to keep it!
Its a fully legit copy and its registered to me currently. So am i able to sell this on ebay to try and recoup any money back? Because i have removed it from my system because i need the space and i just don't want to use it anymore so is there any issues with the new user wanting to register it again if its already been done once before? or do i have to contact apple and get a new registration or something?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

Yes you can, a one time license transfer is allowed under the terms of your license. Read your license for the full details and requirements.
