Logic Studio Re-Install

Will reinstalling Logic Studio on the same computer cause the computer/software to think that I have Logic on an extra computer? As I understand it, you can install Logic on only 2 computers. However, I want to re-install on one of those computers since not everything migrated corrected when I used Migration Assistant. Is it possible to complete a re-install and have the computer (or software) not think that I'm installing it on a 3rd computer?

Logic looks on any networks, for a copy of Logic, and looks to see if there is an ID in "HD/Library/Application Support/Pro Apps" - if it doesn't see any other computers connected or find ID, you're good to go

  • Logic Studio not installing properly

I'm on my 3rd time trying to install Logic Studio. It stops at the 3rd audio content disc and asks for "Please insert the "Logic Studio" disc to continue installation." Nothing I do at this point helps. My iMac G5 has Logic 7 Academic on it so I'm installing a full retail version Logic Studio. I also have iLife 5 installed. I've removed the pref list from 7, and dragged the Logic Studio icon back out of my applications folder before trying to reinstall each time. I am installing everything on my internal volume except the Jam Packs which I requested to be placed on an ext HD. Can anyone offer further advice?

I had the same problem: one of the audio content DVDs was defective and would stall the installation.
I installed the programs and the apple loops and called Apple Support. They sent a replacement DVD and I received it shortly after so I could install the audio content.

  • What's the best way to (re)install Logic Studio? Need Help.

I bought Logic Studio a few months ago and installed it on my new MacBook Pro 2.4Ghz with 2G Ram, 160G hard drive @ 7200 rpm. Being new to Logic, at install, I just put all 40+ gigs of content on the computer. After a while I considered putting the Apple Loops (roughly 12gigs) onto an external hard drive to save space on my computer, just to see if it would work, then consider moving more content over later. After doing this the Logic application couldn't find the Apple Loops, and I couldn't find a way to help it see the new path, so my Apple Loops were essentially rendered useless (since I had already deleted them from the computer). So I stopped right there, and haven't done anything else. Just worked with Logic without using Loops, which I have to say is still an incredible program.
What also seemed strange was this: In moving the Apple Loops, the available disk space on the computer didn't seem to change much. It went down a few gigs, but not the 12 or so I was expecting. Not sure why that is. It seems like Logic and all the content is actually taking up around 50 gigs or so on my computer (and the Apple Loops are supposedly gone or not available). What is that about?
Feeling like I had really fouled things up, I called Apple Care. They said that the content of Logic is stored in many places in the computer's libraries and system folders, but it was really confusing trying to locate all of it, because the info they sent was from Logic 7 and older versions of GarageBand. I guess Logic 8 is too new for them to have anything on it. There is no uninstall for Logic Studio. But they strongly recommended that I perform an Erase and Install, and then re-install all my software including Logic, and then assign the hard drive I wanted the content in. That would open up a lot of the computer's hard drive space, they said. It seemed like an extreme measure to take for such a small blunder, and I haven't tried it yet, but will if it's the best option.
If I do this, is running Logic content (i.e. Loops, Impulse Responses, Jam Packs, etc.) from an external hard drive (and the one I have to use is 5400rpm--is that too slow or am I getting too picky?) the best way to go, or should I have all Logic material coming from the same machine? How do I get some of my hard drive space back?
    Ugh.
Has anyone out there experienced this too? Is there anything documented about where the content is stored for Logic Studio? Is Erase and Install really the best thing to do in this situation?
    So many questions...
    Thanks.

    Hey Blue,
Let me see if I can help you a bit.
Logic Studio has 28+ gb of loops. Almost 23 for STP and 6 for the Jam Packs, etc. They should be located in /Library/Audio/Apple Loops/Apple (that's the default install loc.). Copy them to an external drive and then delete them from your main drive. Go to /Library/Audio/Apple Loops Indexes and delete those text files. Now go to /Library/Preferences/Soundtrack Pro and delete those text files, too (more Loop Indexes).
Now open Logic Pro and it will say 'No Apple Loops found'. Click 'OK' and then open your Loop Browser. Drag all the Jam Pack folders, STP folder, etc. that you want to use onto the Loop Browser. Logic will ask you if you want to 'Copy to Loops Folder' or 'Current Location'. Choose 'Current Location'. Logic will now index the loop folders.
NOTE: You can change the names of the folders to suit your liking. For example: I added the 2, 3, 4, 5 after the Jam Pack names to make it look smoother on the popup menu and changed iLife Sound Effects to Sound Effects - iLife and Apple Loops for STP to STP. Now the Jam Packs 1-5 come up first on the popup menu and the FX stay at the bottom. I likee!!
Now, if you like you can take your EXS Factory Samples and Ultrabeat Samples, 3.35 & .889 gb respectively, and copy them to an external drive. I have mine in the same place as my Jam Packs, etc. You can find these files in /Library/Application Support/Logic. Toss out the originals and put ALIASES from the external drive back into the /Lib/App Sup/Logic folder.
Also, if you open STP and click the Search tab in the right pane you will see a button that says 'Setup' next to it. Click that and you can use the checkboxes in the window to activate/deactivate any of the loop folders available.
A clean install is the best IMO if you have a little time because a) you DO NOT have to install GB at all (that saves the .aif file size - Logic Studio uses .caf files at half the size of the originals) b) Logic Studio will install the extra GB or Logic 7 content if you need it at it's reduced size. It will basically get rid of all the old clutter that you do not need. Only install what JP's you want and move the bigger stuff to an external.
Rock up Logic and it should all be in place. That procedure saved me 32.5 gb on my main drive.
NOTE #2: You have another 12 gb (if you installed all Jam Packs) that reside in the /Library/Application Support/GarageBand/Instrument Library/Sampler. These are the Jam Pack Instruments & Sampler files for World, Symphony, etc. They cannot be moved from the startup HD (as far as I can tell). So keep that in mind if you don't want a certain JP.
    Hope that helps,
    Dave

  • Installing Logic Pro 9 upgrade on a different Mac than the one that Logic Studio 8 is installed on.

I have Logic Studio 8 installed on an OLD Mac Mini (10.6.8).  It's not really worth the hassle to upgrade hardware (and the hardware that can be upgraded in that Mac Mini is limited).  Am I entitled to the Logic Pro 9 upgrade to install on my brand new Macbook Pro using the serial number from Logic Studio 8 on the Mac Mini?  Or do I need to purchase the full version of Logic Pro 9 to put on the Macbook Pro?  The new Macbook Pro has never had Logic Studio 8 installed on it.  (In fact it won't install because the Macbook Pro is running 10.7.2.

You can purchase the Upgrade and install it on your New MBP...
Just have the Serial Number from LP 8 handy for when you are asked for it...
After the install you will need to run Software update to get the Latest version of Logic 9 for Lion..
Or you can Download it from Here

  • Need 2 install Logic Studio 9 Audio content & Jam Packs?

Have Logic Studio 9: didn't have enough space to download extras originally (i.e., Audio Content & Jam Packs).  Have now upgraded to 500 Gb HD for 2.4 Intel Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro and have tried to install Logic Studio again (The logic Pro; Logic Node; MainStage; and WaveBurner seem to have installed OK - at least they show up in Applications folder)  When it comes to installing Studio Content the Studio Content disk install process gets hung up at the end of the downloading. A message window pops up saying: The installation failed. The installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail.  Contact the software manufacturer for assistance.  The Logic Studio software is registered to me and has a Support ID: I6941D2H41H.  It is frustratingly difficult to find anywhere that I can contact tech support related to this Logic Studio issue.  I would simply like to be able to get the included Audio Content and the Jam Packs from the Logic Studio Suite installed on my MacBook Pro.  I would appreciate some response and help to be able to get the application data so that I can fully install the whole Apple Logic Studio program ASAP.  A further suggestion is that a means of contacting support for such related issues be instituted.  Anyone know how to get the corrupted Audio Content & Jam Packs for downloading?

Firstly you are Not addressing Apple here... This is a User to User Forum...
That said... Give Apple Care a Call... Tell them you are a Logic Pro User and you should be transferred to a Logic Expert...
    Explain your situation to them...
Make sure you have your Serial Number and Date of Purchase handy...

  • Logic Studio 9 upgrade won't work with my Studio 8 retail key

I recently bought a new Mac mini with Logic Studio 9 upgrade as I already own a retail box of Logic Studio 8. I just tried installing Studio 9 after a clean install of OS X 10.6.1 and it tells me my key is invalid, so I install Logic Studio 8 before trying again (which accepts the key and works fine) but the Studio 9 install still won't accept it. Has anyone else had this problem and who do I contact about getting this fixed?

it might ask you for the serial number of LP8(Logic Studio ) before installing LP9 (Logic Studio 2).
Could it be that it asks for that and you put the serial of LP9 there>?
Else call 0844 209 0611 it's £0.05p per minute when you call from a landline, the response is fast.

  • Logic Studio 9 & Logic Pro X?

I unfortunately wiped clean my MBP HD when I updated my iPhone5 to OS7. It's my inadvertent mistake, nothing to do with the OS.
Of course I've lost all the files also.
After re-installing Logic Pro X, I noticed I didn't seem to have as many software instruments as I had before.
That's when I realized I didn't have Logic Studio 9 installed (from the CD package)...which I had previously purchased from the online Apple store.
My question is; now that Logic Pro X is installed, can I go ahead and re-install the Logic Studio 9 or do I have to uninstall Logic Pro X first and then re-install Pro X.
I hope you can help me
    Thank you

    Hey Josh,
Got your message on SC but thought it would be more useful to respond here...
It says that the volume "Lexar 1" couldn't be mounted. It then asks me to mount the volume and try opening the document. How do I do so?
That means that at some point in the past you had a device named Lexar 1 (Maybe either an external HD or a Memory Card, given it's name?) connected to your system that was utilized by the project, that is no longer connected....
To get around this.. I would suggest using the Selective Track Import feature (STI) to import each track, one at a time..  from this project into a new project.. This will help you identify what is actually missing that was on that Lexar 1 drive.... and create a new project you can work with..
Here is a tutorial on using STI. Its for LP9 but STI works much the same way in LPX...

This should help you resolve your issue... If not, please let us know...

    Hi,
I'm trying to reinstal logic studio 9 and on the screen where you select and deselect the instal options soundtrack pro (and therefore compressor) are labelled as skip and greyed out not allowing select. The same is true for the apple loops utility. I'm pretty sure i removed all the files of previous instal. Anyone help?

  • I have an upgrade version of logic studio (9.1.1.) which I want to run on an imac with 10.7.4 osx Lion and after a seemingly successful install it's telling me that this version of logic studio isn't supported by my osx...Can someone help me with this?

I also want to add that I've found the updates to logic pro 9.1.2 thru 9.1.7. and when I download them they tell me they are either not needed or don't seem to actually update anything.  Someone was saying that Logic Studio isn't a fan of Lion and I should install Snow Leopard, complete Logic updates and then re-install Lion.  PLEASE HELP!!!

    Hi there,
You're running an old version of Safari. Before troubleshooting, try updating it to the latest version: 6.0. You can do this by clicking the Apple logo in the top left, then clicking Software update.
You can also update to the latest version of OS X, 10.8 Mountain Lion, from the Mac App Store for $19.99, which will automatically install Safari 6 as well, but this isn't essential, only reccomended.
Thanks, let me know if the update helps,

  • How many macs can I install Logic studio on?

Ok so i recently bought my first ever iMac.
And i installed logic studio on it, but I am considering a Mac Pro because honestly; i love my iMac but i kind of just want this imac for 'personal' things (movies, music, family photos, videos ect.)
    and I want a Mac Pro just for logic and any other PRO apps I buy later on. So i was wondering if anyone can help me with the question i have;
How many macs can I install Logic studio on?

It's in your Logic Studio license agreement:
    2. Permitted License Uses and Restrictions.
    A. This License allows you to install and use one copy of the Apple Software on one Apple-labeled desktop computer and one Apple-labeled laptop computer so long as both computers are owned and used by you. This License does not allow the Apple Software to run on more than one computer at a time.

    Yes
The licence details depend on how you originally purchased Logic. The original (DVD) licence allows for you to have Logic installed on 2 computers, provided that you do not use both at the same time.
The Appstore Licence allows you to install on any computer that you own. See this article for a simple guide

  • Not able to install Logic on mac with OSX.  10.8.2. Error message: Logic Studio.mpkg cannot be opened as the power pc programs are no longer supported. I have logic studio 8 software purchased in 2007 and upgraded with logic studio 9 (purchased in 2009)

After an earlier attempt to move Logic from my other mac (OSX 10.6.8) with the migration assistant to my new mac with OSX 10.8.2. I've re-started the whole start up process by erasing the hard drive from the new machine and build it up from scratch. After a new "out of the box" start, I decided to install LOGIC from my disks : starting with my 2007 package Logic Studio 8 and upgrading with my Logic 9 package from 2009. When trying to start to install 2008 I got the error message : Logic Studio.mpkg cannot be opened as the power pc programs are no longer supported.
What does this mean? HOw do I get this working under 10.8.2 as it works flawlessly under OSX 10.6.8. For sure I didn't buy a new machine to have OSX 10.8.2 but I suspect this is the roadblock to installing my logic package.
    Help!

    Mark,
    Sorry...
I completely lost the thread (I actually got confused between you and another poster on a another forum that was asking the same basic question) and somehow ended up thinking you were trying to install on a PPC Mac
My apologies and please ingnore those parts of my last post relating to the PPC Macs...
You have an Intel Mac and therefore Logic Studio 2 Boxed Upgrade set should install/run on your Mac without issue. As I said earlier.. you do not need to try and install from the original Logic Studio 1 /Logic 8 Boxed set...(It won't work anyhow because you have an Intel Mac and that version had a PPC installer)  but just install from the Logic Studio 2 / Logic Pro 9 Upgrade Boxed setof DVDs instead...
Have you tried the "Make Disk Image" solution I gave earlier? That normnally works under such circumstances as what you are describing can happen when your DVD drive cannot read the DVDs correctly... I have had this situation myself where one drive read them okay and another failed to do so for whatever reason. Making and then installing from Disk images of those exact same disks resolved the issue for me...
You can try to reinstall directly from the DVDs of course though under some circumstances it may not allow you to reinstall Logic Pro itself if that part of the original installation attempt was successful... in which case you can also try this... (It's probably the easiest method if Logic 9 was already installed and present in your Apps Folder)
If the Logic Pro App is in your applications folder..
Run Software Updates to update Logic Pro to a version that will run under 10.8.2 (The initially installed version of Logic will not)
    Run Logic
Go to the menu bar in Logic and select Logic Pro/Install Additional Content and select all content in there..
This content is basically exactly the same as what is stored on the remaining DVDs of the boxed set so you might not need to use the rest of the DVDs to install from but download it all instead from Apple Servers...

  • Installing Logic Studio on an iBook g3?

I recently purchased an apple i book g3 on ebay, which i plan to use specifically for creating beats and music.. and i also recently came across Apple Logic Studio 8, did some research on it, and it seems like it's just what i need.
My question is, is it a bad idea to attempt to install Logic Studio on the g3? the minimum requirements for Logic appear to be just a bit more than what my laptop has for me to work with... The iBook i purchased has 900 mhz, 40gb, mac os x 10.4 tiger, those are mainly the only specs i am worried about..
Just by looking at the numbers i would assume it may not work, but then again i read a few posts from people on other message boards, using basically the same laptop, and installing logic express without any issues.
Either way ive already paid for the laptop so i am stuck using that for a while, but i REALLY want to get my hands on Logic Studio and work with that as well.. suggestions?

  • Need to make space in my Hard drive to install Logic Studio Upgrade

    ok. Here's my problem:
I have a 1st generation Mac Book Pro. That means 100Gb of storage.
I've been using it for professional audio recording since then with Logic Pro (6 or 7 I think) and I made necessary upgrades when they were available in both Mac book and Logic. So, now my Mac has 2.16 GHz processor, 2GB memory RAM and is running Mac OS X 10.6.3
When it comes to Logic, I am in Logic 8, trying to make the last upgrade of Logic Studio but looks like there's no more space available on my laptop. At this point, I moved any other data that I don't need. My Hard drive is almost full of a data that most of it supposedly needs to be replaced or skipped. I'm talking about additional content of audio coming on Jam Pack, etc... The installation program allow me to put some of the data in other hard drives (about 22.68 GB) but still is not enough.
Is there any way to solve this? May be uninstalling programs and data that later will be installed again with my upgrade? I don't want to make a mess before asking.
Probably is time to get a new computer. If this is the only option please somebody tell me! but if is not, I refuse to spend the money. My laptop is working fine...
    Thank you
    Fran

Well, first i would decide what you need the computer for. If you use iPhoto and iTunes, maybe moving the libraries to external HD may free up a significant amount of HD space.
Also, look for apps you don't need anymore, look for ancient data that can be zipped&archived away. That's a lot of work, but is worth the time, because you get to know what really is on your HD. I have so many small apps&tools lying around on my HD clogging space, but in fact i only used them once or twice in a lifetime, so better delete them.
BTW: Make sure you have enough space on your HD not only to install Logic studio but have some extra GB's for the OS to shuffle data around. No OS likes a full HD.
My strong suggestion would to give your Macbook to a trustworthy Mac store where they install a bigger HD and copy everything over to the new one.

  • Instructions: How To Install Logic Studio on External Drive

Sorry for starting another thread, but this will turn up in a search engine inquiry better than the other thread, so please delete the other one instead. I believe the subject heading wording will be more search engine friendly
Okay after much digging , I have found out what parts of Logic Studio 9 can & cannot be installed on an external Drive and here's how I did it:
    http://www2.picturepush.com/photo/a/4177710/img/Anonymous/Picture-1.png
    http://www5.picturepush.com/photo/a/4177713/img/Anonymous/Picture-2.png
    Then after everything is installed:
    Library>Application Support>Logic>EXS Factory Samples
Dragged to the Ext. HD got 3 gigs out of it
    Then Library>Application Support>GarageBand>Instrument Library>Sampler>Sampler Files (NOT SAMPLER INSTRUMENTS !)
    That scored me another 12GB
Installing that way allows approx 38GB of Logic on an Ext. HD
Message was edited by: Geoff J

If you want, you can install your OS on the external drive and boot up from that by setting the external drive as startup in the system preferences. Then you can install ALL of logic on it instead of using the internal at all. I've been set up this way for years.
