Logic support

if i have problems say with any line 6 gear i can eventually contact a tech' through email to help sort problem out, is there any such method with logic or mac problems ??

This all depends on the which bugs you are referring to. The text doubling thang may be a remnant of Panther (I haven't experienced it in Tiger).
No software is perfect, but Apple is releasing updates. If anything, it works over here, and even with some of the bugs that it has, it hasn't gotten in my way of getting music done.

  • Does Logic supports Automator actions?

    Hello
I'm new to this forum and I'm looking for help to find out if Logic supports Automator actions...
What I'm trying to do is creating a workflow to en-prove the quality of my mp3's using Apple Audio Units in Logic or in a different software that supports Apple Audio Units (such as AUDynamicsProcessor or AUMultiband Compressor) in a less period of time instead applying the presets for each track...
    Thanks
    Stefutz

I am not sure if this will help, but I just found this utility called, Accelerando, at http://www.eigentoneresearch.com/Accelerando.html
"Accelerando is a sizable collection of utilities which have been designed to allow you to accomplish more in less time by condensing your commands and actions."
"Accelerando includes many Automator Actions which can be used with any application. Additionally, Accelerando includes Automator Actions which are application specific. These application specific actions fall into three primary categories: General Use, Multimedia and Audio Production, and Programmers and Developers in general. Application specific actions are a great way to reduce even more steps when you create workflows. While these actions may seem redundant at first glance, they obscure several details regarding configuration, setup, or debugging while providing tight integration with the Preset Manager - thereby allowing you to focus on your work."

  • Does Logic support Audio Interface and MIDI simultaneously over USB?

    Hi -
I'm new to this so please bear with me :-). I have a MacBook running Logic. Also have a MIDI controller hooked up via USB.
I also have a USB Mixer that I'd like to hookup to the Mac's audio output. Currently, I have the MacBook's headphone output going into the mixer. I'd love to get the cleaner sound afforded by the USB connection. Is this possible while keeping the MIDI connection over USB?

Thanks, Fox. You're right - I just tried it out and it worked out very well (although I'm getting I high-pitched noise through my monitor speakers only when Logic is running. The noise stops when I exit out of Logic.)
I couldn't get myself to believe that the Mac/Logic could keep the USB data straight - MIDI on one, and audio on the other, but sure enough, it works just fine. :-)
    Thanks!

  • Logic Pro 9 - Recorded audio just silly with crackling, clicking noise

PLEASE!!! Read my entire post before commenting. I don't mean to sound rude but I've posted this in several other forums and it's obvious they hadn't read/understood my issue based on the comments they left, ie., suggesting everything I've already tried, saying to contact tech support and even asking what comp and DAW I'm using... I've been dealing with this issue for ~8 months
    SPECS
    I use 2 daisy-chained Firepods connected to a Mac Pro Quad-core running 10.6.5 and Logic Pro 9.1.3.
I get the results described below whether I'm trying to record at 24 or 16 bit and at either 44.1K or 48K.
Generally I record 12 tracks simultaneously AND I always use the same inputs for each instrument; ie., Vocals = track 11, guitar = track 2, bass = track 1, etc...*
    PROBLEM
Although this is a sporadic issue it happens to occur WAY more than it doesn't; ie., very rarely do I get a recording session without the anomaly.
The issue is that after I have recorded a session and listen back to the recorded material there are random crackles, pops, clicks throughout. When I audition tracks individually, some may have no crackling and some will have crackling at different points in time and of varying intensity. Every session is different as well, no two sessions are the same. One day I may have a perfect vocal track and a guitar track that is just silly with the crackling. The next day the guitar track may be fine but now the vocal track is all messed up with crackling. Another confounding point is that the crackling does not occur during periods of silence.
I will add that each Firepod appears to function properly (with no issue) all by it's lonesome - but that doesn't help me, I need 12 inputs minimum!
    Things I've Tried
    1. All new FW cables
    2. Disconnecting the FW cable that goes from the Firepod to the Mac. Turn on the Mac. Turn on both Firepods, master first. Connect the FW cable that goes from the Firepod to the Mac. Launch Logic.
    3. Disconnecting the FW cable that goes from the Firepod to the Mac. Turn on the Mac. Launch Logic. Turn on both Firepods, master first. Connect the FW cable that goes from the Firepod to the Mac.
    4. Tried every conceivable configuration of Audio Midi Setup.
    5. Tried several other FW and USB audio interfaces, obtaining perfect results.
    6. Been working with Apple tech support (both hardware and Logic support).
    7. I've checked that both Firepods have the same firmware version.
    8. Installed a fresh SATA HD with clean installs of both OS10.6.5 and Logic Pro 9.1.3 with fresh custom templates and no 3rd party plugins or loops.
    9. Lots of praying, swearing and fits of anger.
    Final Comments
First, I think that the chassis FW connectors on the firepods are absolute garbage (read, cheap, cheap, cheap) and are inferior to anything else I have encountered during my troubleshooting process.
Last, I will go ballistic if I hear one more Presonus rep say anything to the effect of, "Huh! Never heard of anyone else experiencing the symptoms you're describing..." Yes, I have spoken adnauseum with Presonus tech support with zero results.
Any guidance will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Pancenter! I'll try to be brief. LOL
I had 4 perfect multi-track sessions and then the gremlin woke up and and cast his spell... Frustrating... The biggest difference I enjoyed using your suggestion was that when I launched Logic, loaded my template, enabled my tracks and hit record, the session started without a hitch. Prior to your suggestion, I would have to futz around with Logic audio prefs, AMS settings, turning the Firepods off/on, quitting/restarting Logic and/or shutting down/restarting my Mac Pro just to get the session to show my enabled tracks had activity. I would not know if the session would have the noise artifacts until playback. I should add that I never had this problem with my PPC G5 nor did I for the first 10 months of use with this Mac Pro. Also, with the help of Apple tech support we had eliminated Logic, 10.6.5 and the Mac Pro (except the FW800 bus) as probable causes. Again each Firepod and Logic work flawlessly when I use one unit not daisy-chained. So, I think there is no problem with the individual units, and, as I said, both units worked fine chained with my PPC Mac Pro.
So, I called Presonus. Again... And I get yet another tech who tells me something different; every time I speak with Presonus I get different suggestions. This guy asked what kind of cable I was using to connect the Firepods to the Mac Pro and I said I'm using a *firewire 9-pin to 6-pin cable*. So has asks well, is it *bilingual*? He said that would def fix my problem. I told him it is advertized as bilingual and that had not fixed the problem; he had no answer for that. Then, I broached the option of adding a firewire 400 card to my Mac Pro. He said I guess you could try that; get one with a TI chipset. That's where I'm at now, deciding which one to get and whether I will need to provide auxiliary power to the card's on-board molex plug.
    Any ideas?
    Oh, thanks for responding

  • How do I make a Tascam FW-1082 "work" with Logic Pro?

I just purchased logic pro and a tascam FW-1082. im trying to get them to work together, but i dont really know where to start. I ran the tascam driver, and did some configuring in logic, but it doesnt seem like they are working together seamlessly. my previous workflow involved a digi 002 with pro tools, and id like to configure logic and the tascam and logic to work like that. so, what do i do?

It emulates a Mackie Control which Logic supports. Open the Control Surfaces setup/install window, make sure MIDI ins and outs are both connected, turn on the unit and it should appear a in couple of seconds. If it doesn't, manually install it. It's reasonably clear and the 1082 is even listed in the install window. You shouldn't have much trouble.

  • Mackie Universal Controller and Logic...

    Hi all
I have one on order and believe it doesn't come with a manual for using with Logic.
Any ideas on the best place to start with useful resources?

Yes, Logic comes with a "Control Surfaces" manual, which documents all the control surfaces that Logic supports, and the full Mackie Control functionality is described there (well, apart from the undocumented features...

  • Advanced Aux usage in Logic

I've been trying to use my aux as a trigger for my SSD drums to filter out bleed thru from other Toms ect.. but I don't understand how to set it up in Logic. SSD told me what to do and I understand what the concept is but it's the "getting around" in Logic that has me puzzled. Here's what they said to do:
Setting this up is as easy as pie but does require another instance of TRIGGER to be activated on a stereo group or aux track which you must send it the drum track that you wish to replace routed to the LEFT channel of this new group track and send the track you wish to use as the suppressor to the RIGHT side of the Trigger group. Adjust the Suppression control in the upper left portion of the display and hey presto suppressing bleed from other drums without any filtering or crazy EQ!
Are there any video tuturials that would show me how to do this in Logic? Once, I see how it's done, I'm sure that I will understand. Thanks!

Logic Express only supports 8 aux objects. Thus, you can use any 8 mono OR stereo soft synth outputs.
I use BFD All with LE7.2 and I use the following tracks:
BFD Audio Instrument track - overheads (BFD 1/2)
    Aux 1 - room (BFD 3/4)
    Aux 2 - PZM (BFD 5/6)
Aux 3 - Kick In (BFD 7...note, I mix internally within BFD to send the Kick In and Out mics to the Kick In output)
Aux 4 - Snare Top (BFD 9...again, submix includes top and bottom)
    Aux 5 - Hats (BFD 11)
I'll then use up the other 3 auxes with some combination of tom and cymbal direct mics, depending on the track in question (i.e don't waste auxes on tom mics if toms aren't important in the song...the OH and room mics pick up enough toms)
Basically, while the underlying architecture of Logic supports 32 soft synth outs, LE can only use the first 8. IMHO, this is a serious, and entirely artificial limitation of the program, which NEEDS to be changed to allow LE to compete with other mid-range sequencers (PT LE, I'm looking at you).

  • Logic & Mainstage Crash On Leopard 10.5.2

I have discussed with many Leopard user lately...
This is what I heard from them
    1. with 10.5.1 and Mainstage 1.0.2 I had a pretty **** solid setup, since the 10.5.2 update I'm getting crazy cpu spikes all over the place and its basically feeling a lot less reliable. My advice, if you're using Mainstage for gigging, hold of on the osx update, I'm prob gonna have to roll back. You'd think Apple would test this sorta thing especially on their own programs!
    2. When I ran Logic on my PowerBook under Leopard it would frequently crash, have errors, CoreAudio Failures, complete drop outs, hangs, zombies.. you name it.. all of which were resolved by re-installing tiger..
Thus I have two partitions on the PowerBook now, Tiger and Leopard, Tiger is a base install with nothing on that I don't need for Sound, and Leopard is my playhouse for all other things.. ***** to have to reboot but it gives you an air of confidence when you're recording that mdsworker (Spotlight) won't suddenly decide to have an episode and eat all your cpu cycles like it does in Leopard.
    3. I've read that AirPort screws up the CPU. Can you disable AirPort and test again?
    4. Not only 10.5.2 but all of leopard, I gave up stripped everything of my mac book pro and reinstalled Tiger, Logic and Mainstage. It took 4 hours to do but I at least stable now
I'm surprised Apple is doing nothing but making the problem worse. I've had an Apple computer in one form or another since 1980 and this is the first time I feel really let down.
They are turning into what Steve Jobs called Microsoft
    "A third rate software company"
    5. How is Mainstage with Tiger then? I found it was pretty stable under Leopard 10.5.1 so may just roll back to that but have been considering going all the way back to Tiger though. Leopard as a whole seems pretty stable now but its like they're not too fussed about Mainstage users, the 1 program that needs 100% reliability.
    6. It's much more stable under Tiger no dropouts or problems I won't update to Leopard until I'm sure that it will work
    7. Well, I still use Tiger and since the last Airport update neither Logic nor Mainstage work properly until I swtch off Airport. Before this update I had no problems WHATSOEVER with Airport and Logic running at the same time.

A lot of the comments in your post were mine and I have an update!
I attended a Mainstage demo and my local apple dealers store and was such a pain in the *** that the apple rep & the guy who owns the store pulled me aside and asked me what they could do to I guess basically stop me from messing their demo (this was at the point they were stress testing Mainstage on a mac book pro without any CPU problems at all.
So the next day I took my mac in and the service tech did a full diagnostic on my mac, replaced a bunch of ram (it was apple ram not 3rd party) with new memory all for free!!!
In addition the service rep contacted apple Logic support to see what's being done and they advised that they are aware of the problems and there will be a fix in the next update.
Anyway the new ram has helped a bit I still get the occasion pop and crash but I can at least play a gig without watching the CPU meter all night,
The moral of the story is if you have problem, find a demo and be a pain in the butt. It really works

  • Should Apple Adopt Emagic's Customer Support?

Before the net there was Emagic and people that answered phones knowing the program inside out!
Hey Steve guess what? We can save you money if we setup a discussion forum on the net for all of our software & the best bit is, you don't have to pay people in supporting the product, someone out there will no doubt have the answer to the question for free! Yes I understand, but what about the people who have new questions, where do they get their information from to support the discussions?
Um, Err These go to 11????
Oh by the way, don't worry about the creative side of the music business that operates 24/7. With a deadline looming a producer will be more than happy to go around in circles all day searching for the answer to a problem on the net!

That is appropriate..But getting billed $180 for a misdeminour is IMHO rude:-)
Maybe Logic could do a list like this:

  • I/o Error Result -36 in Logic 7.2.3

Hi Guys - Forum newbie here and need a bit of help please
Working on a logic song that needs to be handed in for coursework but have the following error while trying to save the song and even bounce.
    i/o Error result -36
The funny thing is that it does save. The ball spins for about 30 seconds then error pops up on screen. It however doesnt bounce and that will stop me from handing in the work
It is only with this song as i have opened a new song and saves/bounces no problem
I have updated firmware for M-Audio device, trashed logic preferences and all other elements suggested that I have found on forums but no luck. The i/o error -35 for symbols that should be not used does not apply here as I only have a single letter as my song name

good idea. or if not at the forum, there could at least be a link or downloadable pdf or whatever at the logic support site that covers all of the error messages with accurate and useful descriptions of them all, and a list of possible real-life causes and fixes. that would save a lot of time wasted at this forum trying to get to the bottom of this stuff. I haven't looked at the logic support page for a while, maybe something like that is already there... wishful thinking..

  • Logic Pro 7 crashes on launch with brand new G5 dual 2.3

I just unboxed my new G5 and did the transfer from my old G4 with the "target disk" mode (I believe that's what it was called). The first couple of times I tried to launch Logic it crashed during Au validation, now it crashed right away (Logic screen displays "setting up memory buffers" when it crashes.
I've reinstalled from my original 7.0 disk, but that doesn't seem to over-write the app. So far I've tried pulling my prefs folder to the desk top and turning off all AU plugs via a 3rd AU manager.

  • Problems with sysex midi dumps (Jomox Xbase 888 Logic Pro 8)

Hello, I am trying to record sysex midi dumps FROM (Jomox Xbase888) TO Logic Pro 8 but I can't get the two devices to communicate. Can somebody help out? Many thanks. Seb

Well, I was told that I would get the same (ext. 888 sequencer feel) when reading the sysex data.
Sysex is not a way to transfer files between different devices, it is a way to back up a particular devices' data. Logic does not *see into* or understand any data in a sysex dump, it simply records it, or plays it back. You cannot transfer sequences into another sequencer or DAW using sysex. You have to do it via MIDI, or any MIDI file/export/import that the device in question has.
Inputting the midi notes into Logic doesn't get me the same result or vibe compared to when the two devices are synced.
Probably because you are trying to dump the whole sequence at once, and you are running out of MIDI bandwidth (or you are quantising in Logic on the way in). Play in a part at a time for better timing.
When in sync mode, the 888 devices will start ON TIME on 1 (cycle range) but I try to start anywhere else in the track, it won't sync anymore, the 888 patterns will start on a random order.
MIDI clock does not carry position info at all, it simply caries timing. If your device supports Song Position Pointers, that will work, or better still, use MIDI Time Code instead of MIDI clock.
Logic supports all these things, but whether your other device does I don't know - check it's manual.
The 888 won't sync with Logic unless I set Logic's "Delay transmission" parameter to -36ms -- is this normal?
Dunno, it depends on your device, or whether you have any latency inducing plugins running that's delaying Logic's audio stream...

  • Logic Pro X Interface

I have an old Yamaha 01X with firewire. It works very well with my older Macbook running logic 9. OS 10.6.8
In the compatibility list for Logic Pro X, it states that the 01X is compatable with logic X,
I have not been able to get this setup to work with my new matchbook pro. I have a thunderbolt to firewire 400 adapter plugged into the computer, Logic scan seems to see it but will not communicate transport buttons. Can not find new Mlan drivers for Logic X.
Has anyone else integrated a 01X with logic pro X? What is the secret to get the control interface to work. Or do I have to upgrade the control surface.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

Hi, No I have not had anyone tell me there experience but,.... I have found out the issue and why things are not working.... I think....
First of all, Mlan was written in 32 bit and worked fine with logic 9 and OS 10.2 - 10.6... But when Apple went to 64 bit os, things changed. Need to find someone who will rewrite "MLAN"  drivers, Patch Bay, and Connection Manager into 64 bit. Where is an apple programer when you need one?
Upon further investigation, there was hints to try to emulate a Mackie Control Surface  but this has not worked for me.  My Logic 10 sort of sees my 01X,(as a Mackie)  but I have not been able to get the Learn mode to see transport keys or faders. I think this is where the new updated drivers would work. I have tried to install the yamaha software but keep getting failures.... I guessing that it is the difference between 32 and 64 bit.
In Apple midi control, I have not been able to connect with the 01X.
Alternatively, I find that my iPad works well as a remote surface control but just does not give me the feel of the faders or the jog control.
It's unfortunate that yamaha would not see this as a customer service upgrade. I mean my 01X works well, and is worth more to me as is, than to trade it in. Plus, there really is not anything quite like it that I have found in a multi purpose audio workstation. And I am sure that they have sold more than two...
And it still works well with my older Macbook and Logic 9.
So for a audio interface, I picked up a FOCUSRITE 18i20 which is usb 3 interface, has XLR, 1/4" MIdI, digital i/o and interfaces very well with Logic. Plus I can output any output from stereo to 7.1. Using my iPad side by side to my laptop running Logic X, gives me the same transport control and access to most used features... and it's wireless! It's just a different way of doing things....
Now, I am taking the digital stereo out from the Yamaha 01x(SPDIF) and inputing to the Focusrite 18i20. This allows me to send a digital stereo mix to Logic. So, let's say I have 8 mics plugged into the 01X, (even midi) lets say I am recording a choir or a brass section or a drum kit, I could do a sub mix with the Yamaha and only take up two channels in logic. The only problem with this situation is, your mix from the yamaha is what you get, if it's good it can save you, if it's too low or too loud and distorted, your screwed. In this case, in reality, it's just letting me use 8 more inputs but restricted to two outputs....  Back in the old days when we only had 16 tracks to record with, this situation would be great. But with Logic X, we can have so many tracks, you need 8 eyes and 4 hands just to hit record. lol
Well, hope this helps you or gives you some insight as to what I have found. Another thing that I found strange is that the 01X is listed in Apples Logic support website as a supported interface. So if they tested it and made it work, what did they do?, and why did they not put the instructions in the setup page like all the other interfaces?
    Cheers!

  • Logic keeps crashing when using EXS24?

    Hi Everyone,
When i import a sample in EXS24, the majority of the time Logic will crash. I spoke to someone at Apple Logic support and they advised me to delete preferences. I have done this but it has not completly eradicated the problem.
I read that i should make sure that i have the most recent ProApp, so i have downloaded version 3.1. This again has not made things better.
    I am running Logic 7.0.1 on a Powerbook G4 1.67 GHz OSX 10.4.5.
    Any help would be great
    Thanks
      Mac OS X (10.4.5)

    Michael,
I've never imported any audio files into the EXS by the way you're attempting. It looks like it should work though.
However, years ago when I got the EXS (back in Logic 5), the manual said to add audio files, after creating a new instrument, go to the "zone" menu, and select "load multiple samples". Have you tried that yet?
Also, you can drag and drop audio files right onto the keyboard display now.
Another thought, are the wav files you're trying to add locked? How are the permissions on those files set?
