Logic Wont Start - Icon Bounces Once then nothing

Hi All, really hoping for some help here as I am freaking out and can't get my logic pro 8 to open.
The only thing I have done to my mac since it last worked was installed SampleTank 2XL, which should not have caused a problem. So just in case it was the issue I uninstalled it again.
I have ensured my computer has the latest updates.
The icon just bounces once, and then nothing, no error messages or anything to help me work out what the heck is happening.
Hope someone might be able to help.
Thanks
Brett

Agreed. Download Appcleaner http://www.pure-mac.com/diag.html#appcleaner
Drag the Logic app on it, and reinstall (just the app) after deleting.

You may be able to repair this with the 10.4.2 Stand Alone Combo Update.
This is a full install, as opposed to an incremental "delta" update so it should overwrite any files that are damaged or missing. It does not matter if you have applied it before. It has worked well for many.
EDIT: First you might try re-installing QT

Repair permissions before and after update:
Navigate to Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility (Double Click to Launch) > Choose your HD in the sidebar > First Aid Tab > Click on "Repair Disk Permissions".

Firefox won't startup so I can get to its preferences, profiles or anything else for that matter. This happens every time I try to start it up. I've recently reloaded my system software and transfered my systems settings from a backup hard drive that Time Machine (Mac app.) saved.

Firefox 4 and later require at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac.

I have looked through the forum and found nothing, so I am hoping that someone can help me out. I have a user with a Dual 2.5 GHz PowerPC G5 who started having Safari, Software Update and the Dashboard constantly crashing. Hi,
It sounds like a dependent library has gone missing or has become corrupt.
Try re-installing the 10.4.6 combo update over the users existing installation to see if it replaces to problematic files.

  • Mail bounces once then won't open

I guess that kinda sums it up. Mail, when you click on it in the dock, bounces once, then just sits there staring at me, and fails to open. I've run a Disk repair thing just in case it was accessibility, but that hasn't helped.
I looked at it in Terminal and got this:
dyld: /Applications/Mail.app/Contents/MacOS/Mail malformed library: /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/HTMLDisplay.framework/Versions/A/HTMLDisplay (not a Mach-O file, bad magic number)
    Trace/BPT trap
I haven't a clue what this means! I don't suppose anyone knows how I can restore access to Mail?
    Thanks in advance!

It means that there is something wrong with your Mac OS X installation.
What does “I've run a Disk repair thing” mean? Quit all the applications and verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
After having fixed all the filesystem issues, if any, reinstall the Combo Update for the type of computer and the version of Mac OS X you’re using (which you haven’t provided and doesn’t appear in your profile either), unless this is the version of Mac OS X that came with the computer:
Mac OS X 10.3.9 Combo Update
You may also have to reinstall the following Security Update, which includes most of the security updates released after Mac OS X 10.3.9:
Security Update 2007-007 for Mac OS X 10.3.9
Take a look at the following articles for guidelines on how to properly install system updates:
    Troubleshooting installation and software updates
    Installing software updates
Basically, you should verify/repair the startup disk and back up before installing the update, no applications should be running while installing it, and you may experience unexpected results if you have third-party system software modifications (not normal applications) installed.

Possibly third party add-ons causing the problem.

  • IDVD is not starting - only bounces once

I have reinstalled iLife 06 and all other programs work except that iDVD only bounces once when clicked. I need to burn a DVD from iMovie asap and it won't load. I do have enough HD memory when I reinstalled. Help Please.

Search for "com.apple.iDVD.plist" -your iDVD preference file - and delete it.
Repair disk permissions on your startup drive with Disk Utility, in your applications folder.
    Then try again.

  • Start button lites up, then nothing, any thoughts?

I have a G4 1.25 dual running OS X 10.3.9 with 1.75 GB RAM and a second internal drive WD caviar, 120 GB. Today when I attempted to power it up the backlight on the power button lit up briefly and then nothing, no fan, no drive spinning no nothing, displays black, the lite just goes out as quickly as I release the button. Yesterday it was running fine, no wrong dates or anything like that. I had a low space warning regarding the start up drive while running FCP 3 but dumped about 20 GB of media out of iMovie and it seemed okay. any thoughts?

I did notice a tiny blue lead in the corner of the door which was just dangling loose, it was retained in a u shaped cut out in a small tab of sheet metal standing up at 90 degrees to the door, is that blue lead supposed to be loose?
I believe, based on your description, the sheet metal bracket is for installing an Airport card & the lead is for connecting the antenna to the card.
Do you know a link for how to reset the boards and check out other type stuff?
The G4 originally came with Apple Hardware Test software on the system DVD.
best way to clean up the inside of the machine, lots of dust, looks like the foam behind the intakes is crammed full of dust.
Get canned compressed air to blow off the dust. Don't use a vacuum cleaner because static electricity could damage the electronics.
The max OS is Leopard 10.5.x.

  • On restart I get the expected boing start up sound and then nothing

Was using the computer just fine. When I rec'd the software update notice, I clicked OK, and upon restart, I get the boing sound and then nothing. A black screen. Is this the mother board? Hard drive? Something else?
    Thx

I never just install an update when it presents itself.
    Some common tips and recommendations:
Reboot - even in Safe Mode
Close all programs at the least and don't run anyting
    Backup and clone your system
Repair your system and clone with Disk Warrior first
Use the combo update whenever possible
Apple has improved the updater and process with 10.5.5+.
When you ask us, I prefer to see "I installed (fill in blank but "security update" or quicktime or whatever it was you actually did).
Some would also recommend running Repair Permissions first.
"Normally" it should work. In real life, we need preventative medicine.

  • IDVD 5 won't start, icon bounces and dies

I'll repost another person's post, since I cannot improve on the question. He didn't receive an answer, but that was way back in January.
    Here's his post:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=1489142#1489142
I'm afraid I've tried all the odd little fixes, deleting library/preferences/ file; fixed all the permissions on all the disks; rebooted; reinstalled iDVD, reinstalled Tiger, upgraded, searched this discussion group numerous times... still get a couple bumps from the icon, and nothing. No iDVD starts, and the crash log contains about the same results as this gentleman's does.
The key issue I'm seeing is "image not found". Very not good.
His log results, same as mine:
When I attempt to launch iDVD I get the following error in the console...
    ===== Sunday, January 8, 2006 11:53:10 PM America/New_York =====
    dyld: Library not loaded: @executable_path/../Frameworks/MediaBrowser.framework/Versions/A/MediaBrowser

    Jan 8 23:53:41 iMac-G5 crashdump[414]: crash report written to: /Users/bhascup/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/iDVD.crash.log
Any ideas what could have caused this (and, more importantly, how to fix it)?
It's been about a month since i last used iDVD and I have no idea what i could have done to cause this.
    \End His Message
    Thanks,
    Harley

You know, Sue? I think you may have hit on the basic issue. I was reading it as iDVD image not found. But you correctly recognized the crash log is in fact saying the library that is corrupted... Possibly from my time spent installing X11/unix applications.
    An intimidating booger up.
    So, for others' reference:
    Original message, key contents:
    CONSOLE LOG:
dyld: Library not loaded: @executable_path/../Frameworks/AVCVideoServices.framework/Versions/A/AVCVideoSe rvices
    Referenced from: /Applications/iDVD.app/
    And now:
Looking down the given path in a Terminal (ls command), shows my directory's contents as:
    /Library/Frameworks username$ ls
    Inventor.framework R.framework
    JCAuthentication.framework SMAPI.framework
    JavaBusinessLogic.framework StuffIt.framework
    JavaRealEstate.framework StuffItSupport.framework
    MacInfo.framework Tcl.framework
    OpenBaseAPI.framework Tk.framework

    OpenBaseManager.framework WOExamplesHarness.framework
    OpenBaseNet.framework WOSessionStoreExample.framework
    OpenBasePKPlugIn.framework iMoviePluginAPI.framework
    PetStoreWOModel.framework
Sure enough, no ACVVideoServices.framework is present... now that IS odd.
Gee, I wonder which reinstall is in order... But at least you've gotten us on the right track.
    Very good job of digging.^)

  • ITunes icon bounces and then quits

iTunes app just bounces in the dock for a few seconds and then disappears. i deleted iTunes 3 & 4 libraries in the iTunes folder cos this site said that that might be the problem. That didnt work so i downloaded the latest version of itunes and dragged the com.apple.iTunes.plist file out of User/Library/Preferences, but now when i try to open the new version, it quits as soon as i click agree on the install thing. Does anyone know what im talking about or what to do cos ive been using VLC to play my music for ages now.

    Hi Jack-90,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions! ;~)
Sounds like a silly suggestion, but try putting a new iTunes icon on your Dock from your latest download. If you delete the application, you break the link between the dock and the app.
Just go to your Hard Drive>Applications and drag a fresh iTunes to the Dock.
    Good Luck
    John
