Logic X - Exs24 missing "legacy instruments" folder

HI,
I'm missing the Legacy Instruments folder in my EXS24. It's not in the sampler, and it's not in the file system (/Library/Application Support/Logic/Sampler Instruments). There _should_ be a folder there called "12 Legacy Instruments", but it doesn't exist.
I've found a few other threads on this and tried:
repairing permissions.
REindexing Spotlight
re-downloading Legacy and Compatibility from Download Additional Content
Suggestions please?
Thanks!
logic 10.0.7
Mac 10.9.4

OK, I figured out that this Legacy content is on the Logic 9 install disks. Here's how I solved it. I used Pacifist, which was mentioned in some other threads, but not really explained. I was also unsure whether this was a Logic 9 legacy issue, or something from way back in Logic 7 or 8. Hopefully this will help someone....
1. Download and install Pacifist from Charlessoft
2. Get all your Logic 9 disks ready, and open the Logic Studio Install disk in Pacifist. (You will need to insert all the Logic disks to open the complete package.)
3. in Pacifist, search "legacy". In mine, this gave 5 results: Legacy Bass Guitar, 10 Legacy Instruments, 04 Logic Legacy Kits, 12 Legacy Instruments, and 06 Legacy Spaces. The Pacifist browser window shows the file path.
4. In the Pacifist browser, right-click (or control-click) on the folder, and choose "Extract to Custom Location...", and extract to the corresponding location on your hard drive:
/Library/Application Support/Logic/Channel Strip Settings/Track/04 Bass Guitar/Legacy Bass Guitar/
/Library/Application Support/Logic/EXS Factory Samples/10 Legacy Instruments/
/Library/Application Support/Logic/Plug-In Settings/Ultrabeat/04 Logic Legacy Kits/
/Library/Application Support/Logic/Sampler Instruments/12 Legacy Instruments/
/Library/Audio/Impulse Responses/Apple/06 Legacy Spaces
That should be all you need to add the Legacy content, without doing a full install. They are all just presets, except the EXS stuff, which is presets and samples — so if you want that you need to add both the EXS Factory Samples/10 Legacy Instruments AND the Sampler Instruments/12 Legacy Instruments. Otherwise they can be added modularly.

  • Missing legacy instruments

I'm missing quite a few kits and instruments and read in another forum that when installing Logic 8 from 7 I was supposed to check Legacy Instruments (which should be automatically checked) to keep them and I didn't know that. I'm using 9 now is there anyway to get these instruments back and/or will they be available in 10?

If you look on your install DVD you should find a number of packages, including additional instruments.
Re: Logic Pro X, yes, legacy instruments are included as a free additional download after you've installed and launched the program.  See appendix A in the manual:

  • EXS Factory Samples And Sampler Instruments Duplicates and Missing Legacy

since updating and comparing to my macbook which i havent updated, it seems there are missing exs factory samples. for example on new logic 9 there are 2 folders exs factory samples which have 01 through 09 folders. the sampler instruments folder has 01 through 12 and folder 12 legacy instruments which on my mac book in sampler instruments have 01 thru 10 then skips to 26 to 41
ann ex factory folder on mac book 01 thru 10 folders and 10 legacy folder contains 01 thru 10 then skips to 27 thru 38. what is going on . why are there missing files in new upgrade i did on main computer? and how do i get all the exs samples and what should they be?

This problem began,i think in Logic 8.....when you install LP8 normally the EXS instruments and Legacy EXS there were always some missing that I was used to using..I found them eventually, they were now part of the the Garageband instrument Library.
I went back and searched all the install DVDs until I found them showing up..some EXS instruments would be missing the actual samples which were now part of the Garageband instrument library,Attitude Bass being one I remember off hand.
I just copied all the Instruments and samples I needed and got rid of the rest which amounts to a lot of space being freed up.
Now I just keep a backup of all my EXS files on external drive so I dont need to install them every upgrade as in Logic 9 (which I checked just in case there were any new files etc!)..which also sorts out the duplicate files headache.
    Hope this helps.....

  • Trouble accessing legacy instruments in the Library in Logic 10

If you just installed Logic 10 It's a simple bug to work around.
First do it the hard way...
In the inspector (left column) click on the instrument for your selected Instrument track.
In the popup hover the mouse over Legacy and navigate to any instrument.
You will then see the Library restore the links to the Legacy Instruments which should be a "permanent" fix from now on.

    Hi Rale99,
Thanks for your reply. Maybe its not applicable to me. On dont have Logic Pro 9, I only have the new version Logic Pro X. I was guessing that the Legacy stuff came with Logic 10 as normal.. because I saw mention of it in the Preferences.
To clarify from my side, I have gone through the process of Logic 'Preferences'(Advanced Tools) then I have ticked the Advanced Editing to enable it.
I have also clicked the ‘Download additional Content’ and downloaded all possible additional content I believe (as all boxes are ticked with the Status as ‘installed’ – this includes the Legacy and Compatibility option at the bottom (it shows 10.7 gb download now installed).
But I still can’t see the Legacy presets in the Logic Pro 10 ES1 synth?
Not sure if I have missed something?
    Regards
    Andy

  • Adding a Soundfont to my Logic Studio instruments folder.

    Hello,
I've just tried to add a purchased Soundfont instrument (Celtic Winds Tin Whistle) to Logic Studio.  Instructions indicate that i need to add it to the sampler instruments folder (done) and then  "chose the Soundfont2 file in the EXS24 mk11 Sampler Instruments pop-up menu.  The EXS24 automatically converts the chosen file into an EXS sampler instrument."
Where do I find this EXS24 pop-up menu?  I can't find in any of the documentation how you bring this sampler up to get at the pop-up menu.  Or is there another way I should be doing this?
And-Does the Soundfont instrument I purchased work in Logic or must it be Soundfont2?
Thank you very much for your assistance.

You should copy the file here:
    /Library/Application Support/Logic/Sampler Instruments
    Then open exs24 and click on the instruments popup menu (green text on black surface, between "unison" and "edit|options" buttons);
    If you had it already open choose "refresh menu" from the aforementioned popup menu;
Now you should see the font and be able to select it. when you select it EXS24 will create a folder within that menu with all the patches contained inside the soundfont. They'll be already converted and selectable in the right format.
Not sure about soundfont 1 or 2. I think i always found version2 around.
Remember also you have a builtin plugin to manage with soundfonts called DSLMusicDevice.
You can pick it in the instruments popup menu under "Au Instruments" > "Apple".
In order for this plugin to see soundfonts you need to place them in /Library/Audio/Sounds/Banks folder.
It's very basic but sometimes does a better job with some loops not usually well done.
    regards.

  • LE 8 Legacy Instruments

Hi. A while back I had to reformat my Mac Mini. I've re-installed LE8 without too much incident, but I no longer have access to a set of sampler instruments I used to have and used a lot. I think they were part of the EXS24 offerings and were called Legacy instruments, Does anybody know how I get these sounds back on my machine? Thanks.

    Hi,
AFAIK, the legacy instruments are a set of instruments that are no longer part of the basic installment, but you may be able to select an option during installation procedure to also install the legacy instruments. These are instruments that are there to ensure compatibility with earlier Logic Versions.
So, try looking in your Logic installer to find if you missed something.

  • "Legacy Instruments."

    Hey there.
I was messing about in Logic today, and I found a folder in the library that I'd never come across before. It was called "Legacy Instruments." and had some pretty nifty female vocals, new synths that I'd never heard before etc.
But now the folder has mysteriously disappeared, has this happened to anyone else, and does anyone know how I can get it back?

    No.
Legacy Instruments is Logic pro update to 8.
the Legacy Instruments is compatible with Logic Pro 7.
If you have some Project made with Logic Pro 7,and you should install these Legacy Instruments.
My suggestion:you should install theses, because they are not too big,if your hard driver is not so small.

  • Sample instruments folder driving me nuts

I'll apologize in advance, but I've checked up and down here and seem to have missed it, but everytime I try to put anything into the sample instruments folder, it won't go. I understand the differences between samples and files and all the rest, it's just a problem getting the actual information into the sample instruments folder. Is there something I need to turn off in order to load my samples? Thanks for the help...

You may be trying to put your samples in the systems drives library, which by default, is locked.
I believe it's Apple's intention for you to add your own samples to the user(~)>Library>Application Support>Logic>Sampler Instruments folder.
But beyond that, that's really where the .exs files should reside, and the samples themselves should be in another location, other than the sampler instruments folder. Having the samples themselves in there, will severely slow down the time it takes Logic to launch, and that will get slower the more samples you add in there, because Logic scans that folder on start up.

  • Legacy Instruments Disappeared

I recently had to reformat my Mac because my midi instruments stopped communicating with Garageband. Sure enough after reformatting, it fixed the problem. But when I looked in my Instrument Library, the Legacy section I originally had was missing. I'm assuming it was because when I got the Mac it had the previous OS Mountain Lion, then I updated to Mavericks. So for some reason it just completely got rid of the old Garageband this time around. How can I get these Legacy instruments back, I really liked using a lot of them, so i'm upset that I had them before and now I don't. Any help would be great. Thanks!

    A couple of things:
The way you describe it (reformat), my guess is that you didn't do and "update" but rather a "clean Install".
    Update:
This is the procedure where you install the new OSX over an existing OSX. It usually leaves the previous data untouched and only replaces the  data that is necessary for the upgrade.
    Clean Install:
This is where you format a drive and install a new OSX version on an empty drive.
My guess is that you had data from an earlier GarageBand installation on your drive (legacy). When you reformat the drive, you would erase that. Unless you have a backup from where you can copy data back to your new system. A good practice in general is to clone the current system to an external drive before doing a system update, just in case something goes wrong or you remember a few weeks later that there was an important file that you forgot.
The only way to get your legacy instruments back is if you have an installer disk of the old GarageBand with those dinstruments or the Jam Packs in case you installed them separately.
    Hope that helps

  • Sample and sample instrument folder

    hi all,
I'm asking some basic question, but wish can get some help!!!
First, i want to move all the jam pack to an external audio disk. i understand logic can locate automatic when i drag the loops in loops browser.
But my main question is how about the sample and instrument folder? Should keep in computer harddisk? Or any good teach?
    Second, About song setting question.
In my case, i basiclly only work with my powerbook. So do i need select this "copy EXS instruments to project folder" in Preference? Or if i want backup song as seperate file, then i should select it?
    Many thanks....

The samples themselves, can reside anywhere. The .exs instrument files however, must remain in either the ~user>Library>Application support>Logic>Sampler Instruments folder, or the System Drive>Library>Application support>Logic>Sampler Instruments folder. Or at least an alias must reside there.
These are the 2 places the EXS will look for it's instruments. It will also look in the song folder, and see if there is a "Sampler Instruments" folder there as well. Which deals with your second question...
If you have a "Core" library... meaning you use the same sounds, from the same libraries, and never really alter them or change them from song to song, then it doesn't necessarily make sense to enable the "copy EXS" check box.
But if you have heavily edited an .exs instrument for a specific song, or have made a new EXS instrument specifically for a song, then I think it makes sense to do that.
And as far as archiving a song, once it's finished, it's probably a good idea to enable that box as well. Even if you think you'll always have a sample set around on your hard drive(s). A lot can change in your set up in a year or two's time. Better safe than sorry...

  • Upgraded computers - how do I remind Logic where the SFX and Instrument files are?

I just upgraded computers - how do I remind Logic where the SFX and Instrument files are located? On my old computer it was set up on an external drive, on this computer it's all internal, but how and where do I create the paths?
    Thank you!

thanks Finatarry. when navigating to the "please write your question here" page I went through a Fire fox or thunderbird choise but that does not seem to have been fowarded to you - from what I read above here on the thread. my appologies. an answer I have stumbled upon is at Preferences-Accounts -ServerOptions- does this folder browsed to via the button also keep mthe profiles there?- and thanks again

  • Logic 8 not seeing new instruments

I'm beginning to think that Logic didn't install correctly on my Mac. When I first installed it, I didn't have a ton of space, so I installed what I needed at minimum. Then later I got a bigger drive, moved it, installed more instruments, and everything seemed fine. However, I noticed that when I make a new track for a software instrument, the folder labeled 06 Pop Strings has completely different instruments than that on my drive in the logic support folder. Similarly, if I add any new exs. files to the sampler instruments folder, Logic doesn't see those at all.
Should I uninstall Logic (latest version of Logic 8 ) and reinstall?

    seems to be working now.

  • GarageBand: missing software instruments & loops won't download

    Hi,
Recently I've bought a 15' MacBook Pro with OS X version 10.8.3 installed on it(and I've updated it to version 10.8.4) and tried to download [missing software
instruments and loops] for GarageBand, but that update for the additional GarageBand contents couldn't be found on App Store's update page even after trying
several times. Does anybody have a solution or similar experience? Answers would be greatly appreciated!

I recently had the same problem when I upgraded to Garageband '11.  There are many posts and answers about this issue on the forum, but the one that worked for me was also the simplest solution.  When you get to the Updates window on the App Store and it says it doesn't find any updates, hit ⌘-R to reload.  When I did that, the additional instruments and loops download appeared in the Updates window and I was able to download them.
If that doesn't work for you, search this forum.  There are many more possible solutions.  Good luck!

  • Music files missing/hidden in folder on network hdd

    Hi all,
I have setup my home net work with a iMac (mountain Lion) backed up by a TimeCapsule and at the back of the TimeCapsule I have a 2TB networked external HDD. My iTunes library is located on this HDD, I take care not to start up iTunes before this networked external HDD has propoerly mounted to avoid any conflicts with links to my itunes library files and folders.
The other day I noticed a few missing files (the dreaded exclamation mark !), not too bad a figured, I located a few manually but reached some that does my head in...... Out of the whole album there are two files "missing", the other ones play as they should. When I try and locate the missing files the folder comes up empty.....
I have even checked the songs that do play in the same album....they dont show up either, even though they still play in iTunes (yes, they are all located at the same location). The album was originally ripped from a CD and I don't use iTunes Match or Genius.
I have tried to find the files by:
1."open in finder" - files missing / whole folder empty
2."through finder and located the drive and folder" - files missing / folder empty
3."copy file location from "get info" and paste into "go to folder" - the file temporarily appears in the finder window but dissapears shortly after / folder yet again empty.
    4. I check the folder "get info" from my finder and it says "zero bytes"
    5. I can't use Search because its on an external HDD and there fore not indexed
6.I have tried to copy the folder to the desktop but still shows empty....
    7. I have tried to "organise" my library, still no change.
    What the..xxx..is happening..?
From what I can gather, the files are actually there but not visible through the finder window (even though the folder appears to be 0 bytes).
The problem being that I can't locate my missing files because I cant see them any more......
Am I missing something (like show hidden folder on a Mac) or has it got to do with anything else...? How can I fix it..? I have found posts that relate to windows users forced their W7 to show hidden folders but nothing yet on Mac.....
    Help.
    //Fred

I was lucky to be able to use a PC, that after trying numerous times actually read the external hdd, I quickly copied all files over to a backup hdd and recovered all files. After that I ended up in contact with Western Digital about the incident and they recommended to completely erase (7-pass erase) of the hdd, which ended up taking over 5 days to do. They gave me no reason as to "Why" it would have happened but if I erase and reformatted of the hdd and the problem reoccurred they recommended to get the unit replaced.
I was lucky to recover all my files.....keep trying on different computers if you can, and copy what you can get hold of. The 7-pass erase will delete pretty much every trace of information on the hdd with no chance of recovery.
So far since the incident its been running ok but I not longer trust the hdd to be stable. Not a simple nor quick process / solution I'm afraid.
    Good luck!
Once you have recovered your files (or as many as you can get hold of) and ready to erase the hdd:
(THIS WILL ERASE ALL YOUR DATA, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A BACKUP BEFORE PROCEEDING)
Connect the drive directly to the Mac, open Disk Utility.
Select the drive and click on the "Erase" tab Select the "7-times zeros" to completely erase the drive.
Once the erase have completed format the drive to your selection.
