Logic X won't start in 32-bit mode

I just clean installed Mavericks, and I need to launch Logic in 32-bit just once to scan for all my audio units (yes, even though they are 64-bit, this is what I had to do last time), but when I 'get info' on Logic, the check box to launch it in 32-bit mode isn't there! It's there on Safari, so I know it's possible in Mavericks. Help!

...and in addition..
Logic Pro X does not support 32bit AU Plugins....
If you wish to use older plugins that haven't been updated to 64bit AU versions... in Logic Pro X, then 32 Lives is probably your best option....

  • How can I set Firefix to always start in 32-bit mode?

Running FF 4.0.1 on OS X 10.6.7. Apparently defaults to start 64-bit mode. This doesn't work with an extension needed for Netflix streaming, requiring restart in 32-bit mode. How can I set FF to start in 32-bit mode in the first place? (And what would I miss out on if I did that?)

Other users should note that Firefox has public release versions of 64bit only for Mac And Linux; not for Windows, yet.

  • Logic 9 won't open at 32 bit

I download the last version of logic from app store. I tried to open it in 32 bit mode but logic crashed when scanning audio drivers.

Where does Logic Freeze? Can you see any text in the starup splash screen? Also, how long have you actually waited when Logic appeared 'frozen'?
A program becoming unresponsive isn't necessarily frozen, it may well come "unstuck" after a while - it may be looking for resources, or performing checks - allof hese processes can take some time sometimes.
You should perhaps start up Logic just before taking the dog for a walk or something. If it still hangs when you return, you can reasonably conclude that it is frozen.
Also, what is the Startup Action Logic is set to? Changing it to Do Nothing is a good first step.

  • Mountain Lion won't start with 32-bit kernal

I'm trying to update my Sony NEX-5 to version 5, and every time I click the installer, it says that it runs on a 32-bit kernal.
I tried starting up in 32 bit by holding the 3 and 2 keys, but this doesn't seem to do anything. I remember when I was on Snow Leopard, I could update my NEX-5 without any 32-bit startup necessary. Looking at some forums, even when people were on Snow Leopard they needed to startup in 32-bit...but I didn't.
Why doesn't it start up in 32-bit mode?
Why doesn't the application work on 64-bit? (Chrome is 32-bit...that still works on 64-bit)
Why has Sony even done this to us?
Running Mountain Lion 10.8.2 on the 2012 21.5" iMac.

Yes, the 64-bit kernel is not supported for downloading the firmware update. You may use your neighbors or friends computer to download the firmware. You can also send the Camera to our service center for getting the firmware installed:
    Haha! Very funny Sony!
Well, I have a Canon 650D now anyway, and the update isn't a big deal. Just would be nice to update it.

  • PDFs won't download in 64 bit mode

When I go to a site and click to download a PDF, all I get is a black screen when Safari is in 64 bit mode. If I switch to 32 bit, the PDF opens up just as it always did and I can then save it or print it. What gives?

    Greetings,
Two things stand out here: you're not downloading a PDF file, even though that's what the subject of your post states. You're trying to view a PDF file in Safari, which is completely different.
Adobe Reader (and probably Adobe Acrobat Professional, too) are not 64-bit applications, so they will only run in 32-bit mode. Thus, the Adobe PDF Viewer plugin won't work while you're running in 64-bit mode. You don't need either to view PDF files in Safari; it's perfectly capable of displaying them on it's own, so if you've installed it, you need to get rid of it. Unless you're doing some processor-intensive tasks such as editing or rendering high-quality video, there's no reason to be running in 64-bit mode; you're not gaining any performance benefit, and none of your InputManagers or plugins will work.

  • I put my macbook into target disk mode and now it won't start up in regular mode

I put my macbook into target disk mode and now it won't start up in OSX. I have used my install disk and repaired the drive. I have held down the option key to choose the system. I have tried to start in safe mode with same result. The apple screen appears, but the gear just keeps turning. I can get it back into target disk mode by connecting it by firewaire to my macbook pro. It will start up in Windows when I choose that system. What can I do to get it to start up with OSX?
    Thanks for your help.

Try this from MacFixIt as well:
In the case of drive directory damage or problems with permissions, the solution is usually to use Apple's Disk Utility to repair the disk. Of course, you won't be able to perform this operation normally (simply launching the Disk Utility application, located in Applications/Utilities, and initiating a disk repair) if your system will not startup. So two options exist:
    * Insert your Mac OS X 10.4.x (Tiger) media (DVD or CD) and restart the computer while holding down the "C" key. Once the computer has booted from the installation disc, select "Utilities" from the menubar and open Disk Utility. Repair the disk, then quit Disk Utility and restart your system.
    * Alternatively, you can repair the disk while booted in single user mode if you do not have access to a retail Mac OS X 10.4.x (Tiger) DVD/CD. To startup in single user mode, hold down the "Command" and "S" keys simultaneously at startup. Once properly booted, type the command fsck at the prompt. Repeat these process until no errors appear.

  • Won't start up from Safe Mode

Powerbook G4 goes to blue screen during regular start-up. Tried starting it in Safe Mode and it stops on the Apple blue background and won't got any further. I was on Safari earlier and it froze, so I did a hard restart. Now it just stops on one of the blue screens mentioned above. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
    Donna

Simon, I had a similar problem after restarting (after a software update), resulting in the dreaded blue screen:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=450601&tstart=0
I've since 'zero-ed' the disk and am now back to square -1 on Jaguar until I find my Panther disk!
Although my problem was a drive error, you can still try some of the fixes that should work, e.g try repairing disk permissions using disk utility, i.e before taking the drastic measures I finally had to take.
    Good luck

  • IMac won't start up in safe mode

Thanks to those that have helped getting my so far. Really appreciated.
When attempting to startup in safe mode the grey progress bar runs to about 1/3 of the way then drops out & am stuck on the grey screen again.
Tried starting up in safe mode with report Shift-Cmd-V
Lots of tech jargon so am not sure what to look for or how to rectify it (short of reinstalling system discs)
the last 3 lines are as follows (if that's any help)...
fsck_hfs: Volume is journaled. No checking performed.
fsck_hfs: Use the -f option to force checking.
launchctl: Please convert the following to launchd: /etc/mach_init.d/dashboardadvisory.plist

Yes, I have backed up and deleted old files using target disk mode with an old macbook.  It's just the larger files I didn't have enough space and disks for.  I really appreciate your help on this as I've never had any mac issues before this so am not really sure what to look for.

  • Adobe Reader 8 won't start in "hand tool" mode

I have Adobe Reader 8.1.3 on Vista Home Premium.
The program will not start in 'hand tool' reading mode, it always starts in 'select tool' mode and I have to change it manually. If I quit reader after switching it to 'hand tool' mode, it does not remember, and next time starts in 'select tool' mode again.
In Edit -> Preferences -> General -> Basic Tools, the only Hand- or Select-tool checkbox that is checked is "Make Hand Tool Read Articles".
Based on a similar question in the Adobe Reader Unix forum (http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.3c055988) I fould all the instances of registry key "aDefaultSelect" that I could (4 of them) and changed their values from "Select" to "Hand".
However this did not solve the problem!
Any help would be much appreciated.

  • Safari won't run in 32-bit mode?

Hi, until yesterday I was able to run Safari in 32-bit and some applications/utilities such as LiveDictionary and WebSnapper could run in this manner. Suddenly this morning the above mentioned applications don't work any more and I think the problem is that Safari for some strange reason is not running any longer in 32-bit mode. Its setting in 32-bit mode is OK. I have toggled on/off the 32-bit setting. I have reset safari. I have re-installed Livedicionary and WebSnapper, but they don't work any more. Any idea about this issue? Is there any tools to verify run-time in which mode Safari is running?
    Thank you.

G'day Enzo - and welcome to the forums!
To confirm the mode of an application, simply open Activity Monitor. It will tell you what you need to know.
Personally, I am running Safari in 64bit mode... and waiting for the developers of 1Password to finally release the updated version that is fully compatible. The benefits of running in 64 bit mode are many!
    Cheers,
    Rodney
