Logic7.2 , Intel Chip and the Emagic a62m A/D Card

Hello: Before I install the Driver for Emagic's External USB Analog/Digital Card, Model "a62m", does anybody know how well it's working with Logic7.2 and the new Intel Chip ? Thanx, MLR ... ps ... The Driver and others can be Downloaded at http://download.info.apple.com/AppleSupport_Area/emagic/DriverFiles/OS%20X%20Drivers/

OK, restart in Safe Mode, this will clear some caches. It's possible one or more is corrupt. To restart in Safe Mode when you hear the start up tone hold down the Shift Key until you see a progress bar. Let it fully boot then restart normally and test.
Also I am assuming you have checked Finder - Preferences  - General and see what boxes are checked in "Show these items on desktop." You can also mount an item in Disk Utility, simply highlight it and then look in the File menu for Mount.....

I am upgrading from Tiger to SL in a MCBPro with 2 gb ram and an intel chip and I get the following notice:  Installation failed.... THE INSTALLER COULD NOT COPY THE NCESSARY SUPPORT FILES. Any help is appreciated...

Yes.   I've found that works best.  Especially if the drive is external, since external connections are typically slower, and Spotlight loves to eat up space going back and forth.   Time Machine will eat up as much space as it can, and typically needs drives at least twice the size of the original hard drive that is being backed up, if being backed up in full.   So unfortunately there is a lot of empty space that is needed for smooth operation.

  • Is there a conflict with the Intel chip and certain web content?

    Just curious about something...
Somewhat new to OSX...I'm noticing that certain video content,(specifically Comedy Central) won't play for me in Safari, or Firefox browsers. I have Windows Media Player 9, but the plug in or application won't launch when these clips come up. I've noticed on some Power PC machines the clips play in Safari and appear formatted for Quick Time.(Despite the site saying they're designed to play in Media Player 9) Is there some preference that I don't know about? Also how do I install and uninstall plugins for these browsers? Or is it just the Intel chip...I haven't had a problem with any other site but this one.
    Thanks.
iMac Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   1 GB Ram

Web content not displaying will never be a hardware issue with any computer. You must install the plugins necessary to view it. All plugins are Universal now, except Windows Media, but you can get the Universal beta.
Windows Media - either use Ho Lee's suggestion or download Flip4Mac Universal beta (look on Google).
Real Media - get RealPlayer 10 Universal Binary.
The Flash Player and Quicktime should already be installed. Make sure you have all Apple updates as well.

  • Re I-Movie.  "Communication Error" is what I get when I try and send a clip from my Sony camera to the IMovie program in my IMAC 2008 Intel Chips.  The IMovie program has worked well for several years - up to now.  What has gone wrong?

Re I-MOVIE.  I am getting a "Communication Error" when I try and send a clip to the IMovie
program in my IMAC 2008 Intel Chip computer.  This is the first time in 3 years that the
program has not worked.  What has gone wrong?

    Hi
Have no idea - But if it is a new problem with exactly the same kind of material that was previously used. Then my trouble shooting guide might help.
    If You
    • used a new Camera - file codec might be a sort that don't work
    • Your main hard disk might get too filled up
    Else try
    Trouble
When iMovie doesn't work as intended this can be due to a lot of reasons
    • iMovie Pref files got corrupted - trash it/they and iMovie makes new and error free one's
    • Creating a new User-Account and log into this - forces iMovie to create all pref. files new and error free
    • Event or Project got corrupted - try to make a copy and repair
    • a codec is used that doesn't work
    • problem in iMovie Cache folder - trash Cache.mov and Cache.plist
    • version miss match of QuickTime Player / iMovie / iDVD
    • preferences are wrong - Repair Preferences
    • other hard disk problem - Repair Hard Disk (Disk Util tool - but start Mac from ext HD or DVD)
    • External hard disks - MUST BE - Mac OS Extended (hfs) formatted to work with Video
( UNIX/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange - works for most other things - but not for Video )
    • USB-flash-memories do not work
    • Net-work connected hard disks - do not work
    • iPhoto Library got problems - let iPhoto select another one or repair it. Re-build this first then try to re-start iMovie.
    This You do by
    _ close iPhoto
    _ on start up of iPhoto - Keep {cmd and alt-keys down}
_ now select all five options presented
_ WAIT a long long time
    • free space on Start-Up (Mac OS) hard disk to low (<1Gb) - I never go under 25Gb free space for SD-Video (4-5 times more for HD)
    • external devices interferes - turn off Mac - disconnect all of them and - Start up again and re-try
    • GarageBand fix - start GB - play a few notes - Close it again and now try iMovie
    • Screen must be set to million-colors
    • Third-party plug-ins doesn't work OK
    • Run "Cache Out X", clear out all caches and restarts the Mac
    • Let Your Mac be turned on during one night. At about midnight there is a set of maintenance programs that runs and tidying up. This might help
    • Turn off Your Mac - and disconnect Mains - for about 20-30 minutes - at least this resets the FireWire port.
    • In QuickTime - DivX, 3ivx codec, Flip4Mac, Perian etc - might be problematic - temporarily move them out and re-try
(I deleted the file "3ivxVideoCodec.component" located in Mac HD/Library/Quicktime and this resolved my issue.)
    buenrodri wrote
I solved the problem by removing the file: 3ivxVideoCodec.component. after that, up-dated iMovie runs ok.
Last resort: Trash all of iMovie and re-install it

  • HP w/Intel Chip and Screen Saver

My wife's computer is an "entry level" HP (I don't have the model here) with an all-in-one motherboard, using an Intel Chip for video display
For some reason (I suspect a Windoze update) her screen save no longer consistently starts as it should
I am going to check at HP to see if they have a driver update (also at Intel for the chip model) but my question...
With an LCD monitor, is there any "burn-in" danger to the monitor screen if the screen saver does not run?
If yes, my next step if I can't find a driver update at HP or Intel is to find out if the motherboard has a video card slot, and buy a separate video card so the motherboard chip is "laid to rest" and a different driver is controlling the video process

    Hi,
OK...I remember now...mostly I was reading about TV and not computer monitors...about the break-in period...  but the LCD characteristics involving image retention are similar...though more on monitors than TV as TV usually has a lot of image movement...  Here's the best description I can find, and Wiki has more, but this is best I think...
    Image Sticking
What is Image Sticking? What Causes Image Sticking?
Image persistence,         image burn-in, and image sticking are terms used to describe LCD  image         retention. LCD image retention occurs when a fixed pattern is  displayed         over a prolonged period of time. The fixed pattern causes a  parasitic         capacitance build up within the LCD component, which prevents  the liquid         crystal molecules from returning to their normal relaxed state.
All LCDs/CRTs         and color plasma displays are susceptible to image retention, at  varying         degrees. Phosphor based display devices, such as CRTs and color  plasma         displays are most susceptible, and image retention on phosphor  based         devices is often irreversible. Transmissive devices, such as  LCDs are         less susceptible, and in most cases LCD image retention can be  reversed.
The rate of image sticking depends on the image pattern,  duration of         fixed image, the temperature, and production variations.  Likewise, the         rate of diffusion of the image sticking (recovery time) also  depends         on these factors.
What Can Be Done about It?
The best way to avoid image         burn-in is to limit the amount of static content on the display.  Image         sticking may be avoided by turning the display off periodically  for a         period of time between 24 to 48 hours.
To reduce the possibility of image         retention, we recommend:
Displaying alternating black/white images for           48 to 72 hours (our Technical Support Team can provide the  software)
Power down the unit for a period of time (minimum 24 to 48  hours)
Use           a screen saver when the touchmonitor is not in use
Image retention caused         by static (non-moving) images displayed for lengthy periods  (image burn-in)         is not covered under Elo warranty.

  • New intel chips, and Logic Pro 7

How well does logic pro 7 run on the new intel chip sets?

According to users on the Logic forum here, Logic Pro 7.2 and above (the Universal Binary release of Logic) works very well on Intel Mac. Anything below 7.2 is PowerPC only, and will work very poorly on an Intel Mac, if it works at all.

  • Intel chips and Macs

    Hi,
I've been a happy Mac user for 3 years and love my Power Book G4. I'd like to buy a Power Mac G5, but am thinking of waiting until the ones with Intel chips are ready. Has any developer out there tested these machines? Regretfully, I need to use several programs for research that are only available for a PC and don't want to resort to using Virtual PC. I did find some open source programs that are similar but my boss doesn't like the output. Is it likely that this software will run on a Mac with Intel chips?

There is DARWINE being worked on right now for the MacTels
    http://darwine.opendarwin.org//
And you could be waiting the longest for a PowerMacTel machine, because the G5 chip is very good bang for the processor buck right now and there isn't a space/heat issue like there is for say laptops.
Also a LOT of software will have to be reworked for MacTels, so early adopters won't be able to run the majority of PPC G5 based software, even though some have recompiled and are ready to go already.
VPC supposedly only uses one processor (nice of Microsoft to do that), so unless your PC based programs are not to heavy they should run fine on the PPC PowerMac G5.

  • Does Motion 2 work with Intel chip and or Tiger 10.4.10

I am having a problem with my Motion 2.01 crashing when I open anything. I have come to believe it is a problem with the Intel chip in my new computer or my fully upgraded Tiger OS because I have gotten it to work on an older computer without the chip or updated OS. Has anone experienced this problem and if so what can be done about it? Please help! Thanks. -Michael-

The problem is with the Intel processor and not the OS. You'll have to go to Final Cut Studio 2 and Motion 3 in order to work in your Intel-Mac. Check the System requirements before doing so, if this is your intention.

  • PC Cards and the Aluminum G4 Powerbook: Airport Cards vs PC Cards

I have a very nice PB G4/1.25Ghz/FW800 with Airport Extreme installed, but the range is not very good compared to the other laptops in the house.
My wife's Dell Latitude D600 (with internal 802.11g) gets better reception in the nether reaches of the house than my PB. Not by a lot, but it does get usable reception in areas I can't get or keep a signal when I do get one.
To make matters worse, I just repaired by son's girlfriend's Toshiba Satellite laptop with a Netgear 802.11b pc card installed (from her previous laptop) and this ancient card gets GREAT reception all over the house!
I am sure it's because the antenna is outside the case of the computer and so acts like an external antenna, so naturally it gets a better signal. However, I'd like to get great reception also and the antenna offerings I've seen are expensive and in some cases, not easy to install and frankly, kludgey and they stick out too much and look like they'd be easy to break and/or lose.
What I'm considering is a wireless/g pc card. They're inexpensive, easy to install and easy to remove. I know that PBs have limited PC card options and they must use the Broadcom chipset to be compatible, but even the "designed for Apple cards are cheaper than an antenna. And, not surprisingly, there are variations in the reception quality of PC Cards in general.
There are several PC Cards that are NOT designed for Macs that are supposed to work after Airport 3.1 but I don't know which they are. Does anyone have any idea which PC Cards ) other than the Sonnet Aria and the MacWireless 11g?
And do I have to remove the internal Airport card before installing an aftermarket PC Card?
I'd like to be able to choose from a larger pool of potentially compatible PC Cards using price and reception as my criteria.
    JoeL

    Kurt,
There are a couple of other cards "specifically" for the Mac and without the satellite dish! ; - )
    The Sonnet Aria is one:
    http://www.sonnettech.com/product/aria_extreme.html
And the MacWireless 11g is another:
    http://www.macwireless.com/html/products/11g11bcards/11gPCCard.php
I have no idea which of the three is better, certainly that antenna on the Hawking looks impressive, but my guess is that any pc card 802.11g is going to get better reception than the stock Powerbook internal antenna, titanium or aluminum!
I'm still not sure exactly which way to go here, and I'm still researching which of these three offer the best signal and if there is a PC/pc card that can work with the PB and gets an even better signal.
I have noticed some comparisons of cards and even between 802.11g pc cards there is a wide variability between signal strength received, so having a wider net to cast is a good thing.

  • My iPod is cracked and chipped, and the left side does not work, so how am I supposed to get my serial number from my iPod since I cannot unlock it?

    Hello.
My iPod was knocked out of my hand at school and it cracked and chipped really bad. It worked fine, until this moning. The entire left side of my screen does not work at all. I cannot rewind songs, unlock my device, or enter my password.
How am I going to get my serial number now?
    It is practically impossible.
And how much would it cost for it to be fixed?
It is a 4th gen black iPod touch.

This article can show you how:

  • Intel, IPFW, and the "-q" option

I am seeing an issue on the new Intel processor Macs, both desktops and notebooks.
In my environment I am noticing that the "ipfw" command has had its range of functions reduced. The "-q" option is no longer available in 10.4.x flavor of OS X (only on the Intel Macs).
This issue can cause firewalls to not come up, at all. Has anyone else seen this issue?
I believe I have come up with a work around:
    $echo "y" | ipfw -o m4 /etc/firewall-rules
This seems to work, but I am not completely comfortable with it.
    SG
All Intel CPUs Mac OS X (10.4) Various

I am taking for granted that you did an '$sudo ipfw list' and all the rules are up and functioning.
If that is so, maybe this issue is not as wide spread as I thought, but I have to say, in my environment every single Intel Processor machine had the firewall go down.
Spooky, but thank you for the reply...

  • Under  my billing information it keeps telling me my security's code on my credit card is wrong and it's not I've also tried another card and the same thing! My cards are up to date and I've changed my Username is there something wrong with the app store?

My billing information says my security code on my credit card is invalid  it isnt and every card I use it tells me the same thing! I've changed my password and. O help! Is apple having issues with the app or iTunes store ? Help !

Well that basically means you need to talk to your bank. You have tried using your card information so many times that it is blocked so you can use any credit card you want it will not go through. Speak to your bank first then speak to itunes through the expresslane and they can release your account if it is block on Apple's end. It is a security measure just in case it is not you using your card.

  • Shadow Warrior and The Evil Within $10 Gift Card Offers

    Hi,
I was just wondering if there is an end-date for the $10 Gift Card offers with the pre-order of Shadow Warrior and Evil Within.
I want to pre-order both of them before release date and get the $10 GCs, but I don't have the funds at the moment.  Am I able to wait until just a few days before release and pre-order?  Or will these $10 GC offers expire at some point before the game releases?
    Thanks!
    Tyler

    Hello Tyler,
That’s a great question! Receiving a $10 Best Buy gift card for pre-ordering either Shadow Warrior or The Evil Within this week is certainly a stellar offer. It makes perfect sense you’d want to take advantage of these promotions while they’re still live, so I’m more than happy to assist in providing the timeframe in which you’ll be able to do so.
Since these promotions are part of our Weekly Ad for September 21-September 27, I’d say that you likely have until Saturday, September 27th to get your pre-order in for either game and take advantage of the $10 gift card promotion. I certainly hope you’re able to get your pre-order(s) placed in time!
Thanks for posting and please let us know if you have any further questions.

  • If a gift card has been redeemed, could I know when was it redeemed? (PS: I have the serial number and the redeem code of that card)

    plz

You can't see a list of when gift cards were redeemed onto an account, you can only see what has been purchased on the account (which doesn't distinguish between how items were paid for).
